On this episode we dive deep into the classic Troma title SURF NAZIS MUST DIE. One of the most legendary exploitation films of all time we go left foot first (Because goofy footing cannot do!) into a movie often looked over because of its title, the company that released it, and that fact that it is PURE exploitation. This film is a gem and we hope you enjoy this UNCUT and UNCENSORED Summer School episode. The following episode is totally uncut and, oh I would say, 97% as close to as what it sounded like the moment we recorded. This week Kyle sits down for a chat with Macon Blair, the writer-director of the upcoming horror-comedy, The Toxic Avenger, a reimagining of the 1984 Troma film. They discuss inspirations, the daunting nature of tackling a cult classic, favorite splatter movies and absurdist comedies, and some secrets about the new film. NOTE: Nerdist is a subsidiary of Legendary Digital Networks.
Fantastic Fest kicked off this year's festival with the world premiere of Macon Blair's The Toxic Avenger. This is a studio reimagining of the 1984 Troma cult classic that is totally true to its vibe but also moves in its own direction. The film is a great homage with a fresh twist that's wonderfully wacky, extremely gory, and absolutely hysterical. If you're anything like us, you will be delighted to see the Toxic Avenger make his return! We were stoked to be a part of its world premiere and share its Q&A, which features Blair and a guest appearance from the one, the only, Lloyd Kaufman, with y'all. Peter Dinklage fans have sufficient reason to rejoice! Legendary Pictures has just unleashed a tantalizing sneak peek of The Toxic Avenger, an electrifying remake of the cult 1984 classic. Dinklage is diving headfirst into the lead role as Winston Gooze. He's not your average janitor; he's a brooding, melancholic soul toiling away at a health club. The twist? A terminal illness sets him on a wild mission to pilfer from his employer, but fate plays a wicked hand, dunking him into a toxic vat of ooze. Voila! Gooze emerges from the goo, a hideously heroic monster known as the Toxic Avenger. In the recently-released first look of the movie, Dinklage brandishes a luminescent green mop – a weapon that's both intriguing and undoubtedly hazardous. The shadowy preview tantalizes us, keeping the enigmatic Gooze shrouded in mystery. Joining Dinklage on this electrifying journey is a star-studded cast: the talented Jacob Tremblay steps in as Gooze's son, and the lineup boasts heavyweights like Kevin Bacon, Julia Davis, Taylour Paige, Sarah Niles, Julian Kostov, Elijah Wood, Jane Levy, and Macon Blair. Tune in for more.

Mike had a pretty good hunch Allyson was going to love this movie about a woman who just gets fed up with people being assholes all the time. I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore is Jeremy Saulnier's main collaborator and best friend Macon Blair's dark comedy starring the always amazing Melanie Lynskey and Elijah Wood. Both are phenomenal and we can't wait to see them together in the next season of Yellowjackets on Showtime. Macon Blair put together a great cast including a completely unrecognizable Jane Levy for this one, and he must be doing something right because just about everyone in this is reteaming with him next year for his take on the Troma classic The Toxic Avenger. We simply cannot recommend this movie nearly enough! I'm keeping the name of the next movie out of the title of the episodes going forward so you can find out the same time one of us does, which movie we're watching next week. Next week Mike makes Allyson watch writer/director/actor Macon Blair's 2017 Netflix original about a woman who just wants people to stop being assholes. Blair has said his film I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore is the perfect companion piece to the Michael Douglas film Falling Down. Mike recommends a little-known television show called Better Call Saul. Perhaps you heard of it? It's a sequel/prequel to another cult classic called Breaking Bad. Allyson recommends a show that actually needs some attention, it's the true crime podcast https://www.thefalllinepodcast.com/ (The Fall Line). It covers murders that have gotten little to no media attention because apparently attractive white women aren't the only people going around getting murdered these days.
