We're winding out our theme of dystopian futures in movies and we absolutely have to go back in time, once again, and try to prevent catastrophe. The Terminator is back and this time? He's your new dad and he's been sent back in time by your 45 year old self. Devastation may have been delayed but still imminent. There's hope still in keeping John Connor alive to destroy Skynet tomorrow. The resistance hacked an Arnold bot and sent it back but Skynet sent a Liquid Metal prototype back too and he's scary as fuck. A defining film for a generation, an exceptional action movie and a rare sequel that is better than the original. Of course we're talking about “TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY” from 1991 directed by James Cameron and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Robert Patrick, Edward Furlong and Joe Morton. With the help of his pet Terminator, John Connor and his mother can prevent the future and stop Skynet on the cusp of its creation so long as they can survive the relentless T-1000. There's always a few holes in any time travel story but we might enjoy this movie now even more than we did when we were kids. Jimmy knows what you want to see. John Connor is a fictional character and the male protagonist of the Terminator franchise. Created by writer/director James Cameron, the character is first referred to in the 1984 film The Terminator and first appears in its 1991 sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day (T2). In the character's first appearance, John is portrayed by Edward Furlong as a child, and briefly by Michael Edwards as an adult in a small role. Other actors have portrayed the character in subsequent films, including Nick Stahl, Christian Bale, and Jason Clarke. In addition, Thomas Dekker portrayed John Connor in the two-season television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The character serves as a protagonist in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), and Terminator Salvation (2009), the antagonist of the film Terminator Genisys (2015), and has a brief cameo in Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) John Constantine (/ˈkɒnstənˌtaɪn/)[1] is a fictional antihero who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. Constantine first appeared in Swamp Thing #37 (June 1985), and was created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette, and John Totleben. The titular Hellblazer,[2][3] Constantine is a working-class warlock, occult detective, and con man from Liverpool who is stationed in London. He is known for his endless cynicism, deadpan wit, ruthless cunning, and constant chain smoking, but he is also a passionate humanitarian driven by a heartfelt desire to do some good in his life. Originally a supporting character who played a pivotal role in the "American Gothic" Swamp Thing storyline, Constantine received his own comic in 1988. The musician Sting was a visual inspiration for the character.[4] The Hellblazer series was the longest-running and most successful title of DC's Vertigo imprint.[5] Empire ranked Constantine third in their 50 Greatest Comic Characters of All Time,[6] while IGN ranked him number 29 in its Top 100 Comic Book Heroes, and the character ranked number 10 in Wizard's Top 200 Comic Book Characters of All Time. The character made his live-action debut in the film Constantine (2005), played by Keanu Reeves. On television, Constantine was played in the television series Constantine by Matt Ryan, who later reprised the character in the Arrowverse series Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and The Flash, and several animated productions. Jenna Coleman later portrayed a female version of the character (and her ancestor) in the television series The Sandman, adapting both Constantines' roles from the comic series. Some writers who have written his stories have claimed to "see" him.[4][7][8]

Grab your phased plasma rifle in the 40-watt range, and join us for a 40th anniversary celebration of The Terminator (1984)!And then from there, with reportedly a nearly $100 million budget increase, can James Cameron deliver on the promise of a sequel to match the intensity of the original? Or will it be all Hollywood polish and little substance? Get ready to up the ante, with dueling Terminators, both trying to track down a 10-year-old John Conner, with the future of the human race potentially at stake! Made when Gray was just 23 years old, it's a semi-autobiographical story that merges a character study of an estranged Russian-Jewish family with elements of the crime genre to arrive at something that pulls from the films of Francis Ford Coppola, Sidney Lumet and Luchino Visconti in equal measure. We begin by discussing the career of James Gray, his undersung filmography, and his reputation as a notoriously great interview subject. Then we explore the world of 'Little Odessa', its melodramatic flourishes, stunning camerawork, and deliberate tone and pacing. Finally, we look forward to what might be next for Gray as a filmmaker, having last released the film 'Armageddon Time' which functions as a compelling bookend to the director's three decades in filmmaking.Read Eamon's recent piece on 'The Battle of Algiers' and its relation to Palestinian resistance for The Hampton InstituteFollow Eamon Tracy on Twitter....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish.

Welcome back to CYBERPUNK CINEMA - the definitive dive into the dark future of science fiction. In this week's episode, I will be breaking down the cyberpunk sequel masterpiece TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY (1991) - directed by James Cameron, written by James Cameron and William Wisher, and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, and Robert Patrick.A cyborg, identical to the one who failed to kill Sarah Connor, must now protect her ten-year old son John from an even more advanced and powerful cyborg. This was the sequel event of my childhood. This was the first time I ever felt the waves of anticipation take over me. I was a Terminator fanatic. I watched the initial film dozens of times at that point on VHS, I read the NOW comics line, and I was all-in on Terminator lore in the pre-internet days. Today we're taking a trip back to the late '90s to discuss a quirky, offbeat gem: Pecker (1998).Directed by John Waters, Pecker is a comedy that tells the story of a young amateur photographer in Baltimore, played by Edward Furlong. Pecker, so nicknamed for his childhood habit of pecking at his food, captures pictures of his eccentric family and the colourful characters around his neighbourhood. When his work catches the eye of a New York art dealer, he's suddenly thrust into the world of high art - a world far removed from the close-knit community he loves.Pecker is a classic Waters film in many ways, blending humour, irreverence, and a celebration of the unconventional. It's a satirical look at the art world, poking fun at the pretentiousness of gallery culture while also offering a heartfelt homage to the oddities and charms of everyday life. Furlong brings a genuine, likable quality to his character, and the supporting cast, including Christina Ricci and Mary Kay Place, all contribute to the film's unique flavour. As we dive into this review, we'll explore how Pecker captures the essence of the '90s indie film scene with its low-budget charm and how it stands out as a light-hearted critique of the often absurd art world. We'll talk about John Waters' distinct directorial style and how he's able to find beauty and humour in the most unexpected places. So, dads, let's rewind to a simpler time in cinema, where a Baltimore teenager can become an overnight art sensation, and a sandwich shop can be a photography studio. As always, we'll bring our dad's perspective to this cult classic, perhaps even sharing some of our own 'artistic' attempts from the '90s - brace yourselves for some hilarious throwback stories!Join us on Bad Dads Film Review for a lively discussion on Pecker, a film that reminds us that art is everywhere and in everyone – sometimes in the most Pecker-ish ways!

NORTON WEEK continues!  This is of course referring to the legendary actor Edward Norton who broke out big-time with his first ever on-screen appearance in the '96 legal thriller Primal Fear which garnered him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.  Two years later in '98, he delivered two VERY memorable performances in two VERY different movies which both left their marks on any one frequenting the cinema for years to come - these two seminal films came out just about a month apart and they would make a truly BIZARRE double feature. :) Tony Kaye (mostly before Norton took over during post, as has been reported since its release) directed a very searing portrait of two brothers Daniel and Derek Vinyard who have immersed themselves in hate and bigotry.  The older brother Derek is played by Norton in a performance which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor - he becomes the leader for a Neo-Nazi gang and is eventually sent to prison after committing a brutal murder in front of their home.  His younger brother Daniel is played by Edward Furlong who eventually joins this gang after his brother is incarcerated.  The story follows the struggles of both brothers along with their mother played by Beverly D'angelo.  Other co-stars include Fairuza Balk, Elliott Gould, Stacy Keach, Ethan Suplee, Guy Torry, and Avery Brooks.WARNING: There are some racial epithets spoken by characters in this movie contained within clips from the movie included in this podcast.Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon  https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/
