In this week's episode of the world's-fastest-movie-review podcast, Jackson and Mike review THREE new films!!! First “THE PENGUIN LESSONS”. An Englishman's personal and political awakening after he adopts a penguin during a cataclysmic period in Argentine history. Starrring Steve Coogan, Vivian El Jaber and Björn Gustafsson. Then, a quick review of “AUDREY'S CHILDREN”. Dr. Audrey Evans joins a world-renowned children's hospital in 1969 and battles sexism, medical conventions, and the subterfuge of her peers to develop revolutionary treatments and purchase the first Ronald McDonald House, impacting millions. Starring Natalie Dormer, Clancy Brown, and Jimmi Simpson. And finally, a speedy review of “A WORKING MAN“ Levon Cade left his profession behind to work construction and be a good dad to his daughter. But when a local girl vanishes, he's asked to return to the skills that made him a mythic figure in the shadowy world of counter-terrorism. Starring Jason Statham, Michael Peña, and David Harbour.
This week on BEHIND THE LENS, we're talking about a very special film about a very special woman that was made by another special woman. The film is AUDREY'S CHILDREN and that special woman is pioneering pediatric oncologist Dr. Audrey Evans and her groundbreaking work in the 1960s and 70s at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, or CHOP as it is more commonly known. And that special filmmaker is director AMI CANAAN MANN. AUDREY'S CHILDREN tells the untold true story of visionary British physician Dr. Audrey Evans, who burst onto the scene in 1969 as the first female Chief of Oncology at the world-renowned Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Battling sexism, medical conventions, and the subterfuge of her peers, Evans developed the first Neuroblastoma Staging System, co-founded the first Ronald McDonald House with the Philadelphia Eagles for families of CHOP cancer patients, and, ultimately, impacted the lives of millions of children and families around the world. It was wonderful to reconnect with AMI CANAAN MANN after more than a decade since we last spoke about her work with "Texas Killing Fields". And as you'll hear in this exclusive conversation, we cover everything from Mice to Ronald McDonald as Ami emphasizes the importance of capturing Audrey Evans's story, particularly her groundbreaking research in pediatric oncology. Mann praises the cast, particularly Natalie Dormer and Jimmi Simpson, for portraying Audrey and Dan. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Tread Perilously's Failed Prestige month continues with the second episode of Hap and Leonard, "The Bottoms." Hap is still trying to find the bridge from his childhood that will lead to the river that, in turn, will lead to the money Howard hired him to find. Leonard is less sure as Howard's goons are both dumb and dangerous. He also gets a phone call that will force him to leave town. Later, Hap finds himself in a show of bravado with Howard and facing renewed affections from his ex-wife, Trudy. Will it turn out she's been withholding the real location of the river? Erik is thrilled to see James Purefoy in a series, but is unsure about the episode as a discrete segment of story. The rest of the cast, which includes Michael Kenneth Williams as Leonard, Christina Hendricks as Trudy, and an almost unrecognizable Neil Sandilands as one of Howard's goons are also welcome even as the plot flounders. Howard's actor, however, ends up being the one Erik and Justin want to recast. Justin tries to recall if he finished Hap and Leonard's first season. Erik's opinion of Ahsoka slides a little bit. A wild Jimmi Simpson appears and the pair debate whether or not connective tissue episodes work.

My guests today are Roseanne Caputi and back by popular demand, Gordon Alex Robertson! Before contemplating the endless currents of depth and consciousness, man, the synopses: The Big Lebowski, follows a lot of ins-and-outs and what-have-you's of a very complicated case when two goons working for porn king Jackie Treehorn mistakenly burst into the apartment of Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski demanding money that his supposed wife Bunny owes Jackie. Realizing their mistake but still adding the flourish of urinating on the Dude's favorite rug, the pair leaves and gets the hang loose and tolerant Dude's dander up. Dude the sets off finding the wealthy Jeffrey Lebowski that the pair were looking for and asks him for compensation for his soiled rug. The Big Lebowski flat out refuses the request, calls the Dude a bum, and kicks him out of his house. Surprisingly, a few days later The Big Lebowski summons The Dude to his mansion and asks him to act as a courier to a group of nihilists who have abducted his wife Bunny and are demanding a million dollars in ransom. With his reactionary ‘Nam vet bowling buddy Walter Sobchak at his side, the Dude enters a web of deception, greed and pain as he tries to make sense of the convoluted and problematical condition that he finds himself in. Inherent Vice ups the ante with ex-cop and junkie P.I. Larry “Doc” Sportello who follows a trail of real estate fraud, heroin smuggling, corrupt federal agents and dentists when his ex-girlfriend Shasta Faye re-enters his life and gives him the tip that her current boyfriend, real estate tycoon Mickey Wolfman, has a wife who is trying to have him committed. With rival LA Police Lt. Detective Christian “Bigfoot” Bjornsen working alternately, with and against him, Doc plows into the labyrinthian case headfirst aided by only his wits and piles of weed and coke in the desperate quest for the truth. Under the Silver Lake follows a journey through endless hidden messages, conspiracies and millennial self-discovery as perennial slacker Sam tries to uncover the truth regarding the disappearance of his beautiful neighbor Sarah, who vanishes without a trace a day after billionaire industrialist Jefferson Sevence is killed a car crash. Which film best exemplifies the whole L.A. thing? Find out!

We're slapping a big ol' RUMOR disclaimer on this one, but Ryan Gosling has reportedly met with Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige to discuss potential roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with one of the rumored characters being Nova. While it's still uncertain if official talks are underway, Gosling recently departed from his long-attached Wolfman project with Universal and Blumhouse, raising speculation about a possible Marvel connection. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Universal is developing a new installment in the "Jurassic World" franchise. David Koepp, known for adapting the original 1993 "Jurassic Park" and its 1997 sequel, is set to return to the franchise to write the screenplay, with Steven Spielberg executive producing. The film reportedly aims to introduce a fresh storyline, potentially launching a new era for the franchise. Lucasfilm has unveiled an action-packed trailer for the upcoming third and final season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, set to premiere on Feb. 21 with a three-episode debut and concluding on May 1. The voice cast includes Dee Bradley Baker, Jimmi Simpson and Wanda Sykes, and titles for all 15 episodes were revealed, which are already fueling fan speculation and anticipation. Wolfenstein series developer MachineGames is set to release the highly anticipated Xbox Series X game in 2024, which features an original story set between the movies "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "The Last Crusade." The gameplay showcased immersive action, intriguing puzzles, and iconic Nazi-punching, all from an unexpected first-person perspective. Developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and under the executive production of Todd Howard, of Fallout and Elder Scrolls fame, the game will be exclusive to Xbox Series X and PC.

Rose Red is Stephen King's take on Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House, made exclusively for a TV mini-series in the early 2000s. Ghosts, psychics, greedy professors desperate to prove the existence of ghosts and the afterlife, Jimmi Simpson being a creepy weirdo, prune-faced entities, Melanie Lynskey being awesome, this series has it all!

Matty P Radio Presents: Marks v. Pros & Saturday Morning Cereal
Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week we catch a movie, the San Diego Comic-Con way! Going back to the early aughts and our groups very first encounters with Comic-Con, there has always been one thing that you can count on to be great in every way… the DC Animated Movie Premiere! That's right, for many of us Comic-Con goers, the very first signs that comic books were about to hit the mainstream were watching those very same books, not just superheroes, leap from page to screen. This all started with the 2007 release of Superman: Doomsday a faithful adaptation of the Death of Superman event that saw the death and resurrection of the worlds greatest and 1st superhero. It was a glorious event that was celebrated with SWAG, exhibits, a world premier and panel. Since that awesome night, SDCC has seen many fan favs like, Batman: Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, Flashpoint Paradox, and The Killing Joke. So, let's look at SDCC's DC Animated Movie Premiere Nights through the lens of SDCC22 and the release of Green Lantern: Beware My Power with some of the movie's voice talent including AldisHodge (Black Adam), “Green Lantern John Stewart”, JimmiSimpson (Westworld), “Green Arrow”, JamieGrayHyder (Law & Order: SVU), “Hawkgirl”, BrianBloom, (The A-Team), "Adam Strange". Join Grim Shea, Marke, and Jimmy the Gent as they watch a comic book come to life in maybe the best way possible, with a SDCC crowd of fans who celebrate those themes of Saturday Morning TV!
