Michaelis (44 years old. ) is a Mexican, Filipino, Chinese Jew born and raised in Los Angeles Ca. The first thought I can remember was “God, why the fuck did you bring me to this shithole. What are these people I have to get along with? Why do they act the way they do? Why do they like the things they do? How do I fit in?” He's had a lot of trauma in his life, and he said "Thank God I found alcohol and drugs at a young age. It made my oversensitivity to life bearable. Little did I know I have an allergy to drugs and alcohol. I lost control of my drinking and using. By the time I was 22 years old I had been arrested and jailed 3 times." Myself Angel here can without a doubt understand this as I was into drinking, and drug use at a very early age to help cope with life and now knock on wood haven't touched alcohol in 18 years, and hard drugs in close to 20. He continued saying "I was looking at spending the rest of my life in prison but the universe intervened. This guy Bob Timmons was able to talk my judge into allowing me to complete 6 months at in custody treatment with a year commitment to sober living upon release. I was introduced to the 12 steps and have been sober ever since. My sobriety date is July 1, 1999. I graduated the sober living and have worked in recovery off and on for the duration of my sobriety. I've been a dj since 1997 and have had the opportunity to play all over the world. I've fucked up everything sober. I've worked the steps many different ways in multiple programs. Just before my 10th year sober I met a dude who took me through the big book in a very specific way that has launched my being into another dimension. I've lived in Bali for the last 7 years. I've been dedicating my life to taking as many people through the book in the process shown to me for the last 12 years. I retired from djing this year and wrote a book for non-addicts and non-alcoholics based on that big book process. I hope to expand my ability to help all people with the human condition/spiritual malady. It's my purpose." For Angel Espino, such an encounter awakened a desire deep within. A desire to paint; to express his emotions through art. The encounter was with an original Picasso piece and Angel was so taken by the experience that he decided to work on his own creative process. His journey has taken him almost 10 years and he is now on the cusp of realizing his dream of being a full-time artist. When he took up painting, Angel had a good, steady job, but it was a job that allowed him the time to explore and develop those artistic skills. While he didn't quit his "day job" Angel was very strategic about getting his work in front of people who would either help promote him and assisted in putting his work in front of buyers. He pours his emotions into the canvasses, but even in the dark times, he transfers that to a positive light; a beacon for others to enjoy and be memorized by the colors and fluidity of his creations. Angel is also a huge supporter of others and uses his art as a way to raise money and give back to many charitable organizations. We at the Art Unknown Podcast have been extremely fortunate to follow Angel's work from his very first gallery show almost 10 years ago. At what point do you get to call yourself an artist? What do you need to have achieved in order to earn that title? It's not an easy question to answer, and too many of my clients think they need to be working as a full-time artist before they can officially assume the title. Until that point, they are teachers, marketing agents, engineers, and doctors. However, there is no magic point when someone else is officially going to bestow the title of artist upon you.   To help you determine what makes you an official artist, I’m joined today by abstract painter James Holmes. Well as sad as it is to say it this is the final episode of Ufonaut Radio with Jesse Randolph, and Angel Espino. The show's final episode in the can... Now the shows not ending because of pressures from the groups we have been going against or any political nonsense. The consumption of Jesse's time makes it hard to do the show every week at the level he would want. So he will now join Skywatchers Radio as a "news correspondent" and special "Fill in co-host" if the day ever comes up that Angel can't be on he would fill in along with "The Other Guy Allen Wyler.
