Today I have a brand new case updates episode for you, where I look back over the cases I've covered in the past and share new information!
Asha Degree was just nine years old when she disappeared from her home in Shelby, North Carolina, more than 25 years ago. Since then, various law enforcement agencies, including local, state, and federal authorities, have been working to solve the case. In the past few months there appears to have been some movement in the case. In this episode we hear from the hosts of the podcast Crackhouse Chronicles https://www.crackhousechronicles.com/ . Donnie Peeler and Dale Champion, have been involved in the case of Asha Degree since her disappearance in 2000. They have done many episodes on the case since starting their podcast and have a unique vantage point due to the fact they are from Asha's hometown of Shelby, NC. In September 2024, several search warrants were executed by law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office, as part of an investigation into the connection between Asha's disappearance and a local family. These warrants named the Dedmon family members—Roy Dedmon, his wife Connie Dedmon, and their three daughters: AnnaLee Dedmon Ramirez, Lizzie Dedmon Foster, and Sarah Dedmon Caple. It was during the execution of these search warrants that investigators publicly announced for the first time that they believed Asha Degree had been murdered. Additionally, authorities suggested that the Dedmon sisters might have had a role in the suspected crime. However, the Dedmon family has consistently denied any involvement in the disappearance of Asha Degree. In February 2025, WBTV obtained three new search warrants related to the ongoing investigation. These warrants were executed on February 13, 2025, as part of the continuing effort to uncover the truth. A new witness has come forward, claiming to have heard a confession related to the case. At the time Asha disappeared, Lizzie Foster was 16 years old, and Sarah Dedmon Caple was 15. The witness stated that he had socialized with the Dedmon sisters at various bars and house parties in the mid-2000s. He alleged that during one particular house party, he overheard Foster confess something related to Asha's disappearance.

On February 14th, 2000 nine year old Asha Degree packed a bag, left her home and was seen walking down the highway in Shelby, North Carolina. Few clues would emerge over the years- Asha's pencil, hair bow & a mysterious photo of a still unidentified girl. The next year her backpack was found buried in trash bags 30 miles from where she was last seen. For years there was no new information in the case until September 2024 when search warrants were released, suspects were named and confessions were alleged. Had a prominent Shelby family the Dedmonds been hiding the answers the whole time? DNA evidence, an old green car & texts between sisters may finally give us the answer of what happened when Asha Degree disappeared.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/broads-next-door--5803223/support.

In this episode of the Crack House Chronicles Donnie and Dale discuss the unsolved murder of Chuck Porter and speak with his sister Crystal Porter. Born Charles "Chuck" Alvin Porter, Jr., he was 39 at the time of his murder. This took place on Sunday, September 26, 1993, at the Interstate 85 rest stop in Cleveland County. Mr. Porter was working at the rest stop as part of his employment with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was found tied-up with a gunshot wound to the chest in the rest stop utility room. Witnesses reported seeing two young black men driving away toward I-85 southbound in a dark Volkswagen. Sketches of the two men were circulated, but have not produced any viable leads. Timestamps: (3:45) - Asha Degree On a cold and stormy night in February 2000 in Shelby, North Carolina, Asha Degree (9) got out of her bed. She collected some of her favorite belongings and snuck out of her home. She has not been seen since. Soon after Asha vanished, some of her belongings were found discarded in a nearby shed. A photograph of an unidentified child was found amongst her things – the child has never been identified. 18 months after Asha disappeared, her backpack was found around 25 miles from where she was last seen. The pack is said to have been wrapped in trash bags, and it contained items that did not belong to Asha. Over the decades, the search for Asha has continued. There has been recent movement in her case as police have executed search warrants at a property near Asha's home. A car that matched the description of one seen in the area at the time Asha disappeared has just been towed.
