What happens when a performer refuses to compromise on their artistic integrity from day one? Tamara Lawrance's remarkable career journey offers a masterclass in building success through meaningful choices and unwavering self-belief.Tamara chats to Ali and Unique about their recent work in "The Comeuppance" at the Almeida Theatre and their groundbreaking role in Channel 4's "Get Millie Black" – a production they describe as "seminal" for its unprecedented representation of diverse Jamaican communities and centering of queer and trans stories. Filmed primarily in Kingston with local talent, the series reconnected Tamara with their heritage while showcasing Jamaica's rich creative ecosystem to international audiences. The conversation reveals Tamara's approach to career development, guided by a simple yet powerful principle: "If I only have a finite pool of energy, I want to give it to something that I care about." This intentionality has resulted in an impressive body of work spanning prestigious stages like the National Theatre alongside major screen productions for BBC, Netflix, and Channel 4.Most compelling is Tamara's vulnerability about their journey from a shy drama school student who experienced anxiety to the confident professional they are today. Whether you're a beginner actor, fellow artist or someone seeking inspiration for your own creative path, Tamara's story demonstrates how authenticity, preparation, and resilience can create a career that's not just successful, but deeply fulfilling. Listen now for insights that will transform how you approach your artistic journey. FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!! Those are the words that come to mind about this issue. What else can we say. Oh, I know, we can say that we have the awesome Brett Young from the Fantastic Pour podcast. He joined us to talk about how the Wizard brought this on, and now has to rue the consequences. You bet he is going to find out after he messed around. Comeuppance...bring them. If you are asking yourself, how did we come to this horrific location with these terrible choices....than you are not paying attention. The Wizard. He did it. It is all his fault. What is your problem. Do you have something in your eye? Or maybe you have been drinking. And if you have been drinking, what was it? And in what type of receptacle? Remember, if you are drinking out of some crazy horn or round bottomed crystal, that is chaos drinking. Back to the fight. The Wizard deserves everything that he gets. Especially being beaten by a sea monkey on a string. I mean, how can he even show his face at the Bar With No Name after this? And what about Dragon Man? What about Mr. Pacifism? Why would you flame someone in the backside if you are into peace? Nobody wants a heat enema!!! That just leaves us with Blaastar knocking the blocks off of Darla. I really have nothing else to say about this. Not without getting dirty. And that was this issue. It was a thing we read and discussed. Please check out Brett's podcast, Fantastic Pour podcast. So much good stuff! Don't be a menace to fellow motorists when failing to use your headlights in the dark - and don't mind while the Gearhead Consultancy laughs its pretty heads off when you get lit up (pun intended) by the Johnnies for DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN THE DARK WITH NO LIGHTS. ...Way to act drunk or stoned or just dumb. There's also some cop-on-politician violence (good), the Colorado Highway Patrol versus the CHiPs, a few thoughts on why motorcyclists' shoes fall off all the time, how the $5 billion spent by Joke Biden's DOT bureaucracy (under the deleadership of Pothole Pete) created exactly eight electric car chargers (and how the failure was caused by... bureaucracy...), and an analysis of how ineffective little beta "trucks" like Ford's Maverick are a wonderful analog for the weakness of pajama-clad pepperoni-armed top-knot beta boys. A few thoughts for the gearheads: Do jury duty. It's so much fun (and you'll see law from it's unseemly underside). If you need your car to think for you, you're dumber. Remember when people bragged about being an elitist? Police bodycams are backfiring on politicians. While we're in there - and because the Garage Hour's audience appreciates folks who showed up and brought their A-game - we've got a heartfelt sendoff and Excellent Weirdo RIP for two great neighbors, George and Betty. The world needs more folks like this, and we'll miss them.

Mat, Will, and Chris map out the results for the rest of the Nottingham Forest season in their fourth instalment of the "Pathway" episodes, only this time it's the pathway to Europe! The three also discuss what the Bournemouth loss does to the Brighton preview. And Will and Mat have a good laugh at the fallout from Chris' viral clip. While he tries to add context he ends up accepting his fate and reads out some of the nasty comments in the review corner. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

THE COMEUPPANCEBY BRANDEN JACOBS-JENKINS DIRECTED BY MORGAN GREEN A CO-PRODUCTION WITH WOOLLY MAMMOTH THEATRE COMPANYSet in 2023, Jacobs-Jenkins' witty and moving dark comedy focuses on five friends who reunite 20 years after graduating from a high school in Prince George's County, outside of Washington, D.C. Known as the "Multi-Ethnic Reject Group," the group was once bonded by their outsider status and the traumas of their teenage years. Gathered on a porch ahead of their high school reunion, they reminisce about their younger selves over adult jungle juice and pot as they each reveal how their lives have unfolded since graduation. As the evening continues, they drink, fight, play a truth game, and lament the disappointments of their adult lives. Throughout the evening, they are haunted by a mysterious otherworldly figure that inhabits each character, forcing them to confront the possibility that their past actions may have sealed their present fates irrevocably.Jordan Bellow - EmilioSarah Gliko - KatelynAlana Raquel Bowers - UrsulaTaysha Marie Canales - KristinaJaime Meseda - Francisco/SimonIn this episode, host Darnelle Radford engages with Taysha Canales to discuss the Wilma Theatre's production of 'The Comeuppance' by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. In this conversation, Darnelle Radford and Taysha Canales explore the intersection of theater and politics, audience engagement, and the impact of uninterrupted storytelling. They reflect on personal connections to high school, the importance of streaming options for accessibility, and the profound themes of life and death presented in the current production. In this text, evil Haman finally gets his comeuppance. Though he had built a gallows 75 feet tall to hang Mordecai, God providentially gave the king insomnia and had him reminded of the time Mordecai saved his life. So instead of sending Mordecai tot he gallows, Haman is forced by the king to honor Mordecai throughout the city of Susa. As we explore this text, we not only see God's providence in action, we see one of our deepest struggles: Pride!

[Who's Who: Rav Kahana] A story: one who wants to show another's straw to the authorities, against better advice, and pays for that intent with his life. Which leads to a discussion of why the harsh response, including a window into the ways of the rabbinic academy. Plus, the drama between R. Yochanan and R. Kahana. Friends,Good morning, and welcome back to my Saturday coffee klatch with Heather Lofthouse (executive director of Inequality Media Civic Action), where we examine the highs, lows, and even lower points of the previous week. Please pull up a chair, grab a cup, and join us. This week, Heather and I zoom in on: — The war in Gaza. Why not a humanitarian pause? Why is Mike Johnson, the new speaker of the House, conditioning aid to Israel on cutting IRS funding? And why is he not moving forward with aid for Ukraine? — Sam Bankman-Fried's comeuppance. What happened to him? How could so many big investors have been taken in? Does his downfall mark the end of crypto?— Our culture of hype, of which Donald Trump is the major exemplar. The civil fraud trial in New York accusing the Trump organization of inflating the value of its assets for the purpose of getting bank loans and minimizing the value for the purpose of minimizing taxes. Why is Trump taking this trial more seriously than any other he's now involved in?— The October jobs report. The Fed is “succeeding” in slowing the economy and creating fewer jobs. Why is this considered a good thing? What's the economic outlook?— Heather's “bestie” is in town. Our thanks to Michael Lahanas-Calderón and Tom Lofthouse for technical assistance.P.S. If you didn't know already, you can also listen to our klatch on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or whatever your favorite podcast app is. This is a public episode.
