Robert Babicz on the "Virtual Sessions" presented by The DJ Sessions 12/08/21   About Robert Babicz -   SEEING SOUND, HEARING COLOURS   Robert Babicz has been redefining the boundaries of electronic music since the early 1990s. His unique artistry encompasses sound, vision, emotion and spirituality. From releasing and performing acid techno as Rob Acid, to his role as a highly-sought after producer and studio wizard infusing technical perfection with deep emotion, to his striking photos, everything Robert does expresses his desire to celebrate beauty and humanity, and to live each moment with utmost consciousness. Robert's art and philosophy are so distinctive there's a word for it: Babiczstyle.    EVOLUTION   Robert made his first record on borrowed equipment in 1992 and played his first gig on gear he'd never used before. “I had no musical background or knowledge, no clue what I was doing. I just improvised music. But for the first time in my life I was absolutely in the moment, like a special state of consciousness. And people responded – they loved and accepted me.” Like anyone experiencing a transformation, Robert wanted to do it again and again. Music was a way to rise above the struggles of daily life (in the early years of his career, he slept on a mattress on the floor of a tiny flat in his home town Cologne, his synths his only possessions) and to share the joy of that transcendence with others. Playing as Rob Acid, he ignited parties with fierce techno played by strict rules: every set was 100% live and unique, he deleted the instruments' programming immediately afterwards.   Robert's ethos, forged by these acid-drenched sonic exorcisms, is razor sharp: work hard, make mistakes, move on. His tremendous output of official releases pales beside the number he deleted in the studio because they didn't meet his exacting standards. “I'm not afraid to get rid of something that doesn't work,” he explains. “I have so many ideas. It's never quiet in my head.”    SYNAESTHESIA    Robert has the rare gift of synaesthesia, which turns the world into a continuous interplay of colour, shape and sound. He sees music in 3D, describing tracks as “geometrical poem... sculptures in time.” When he's working on a track he can see the imperfections in the sonic structure and fix them, like a painter correcting a brush stroke.    Photography is an essential component of Robert's art and his fans know and love his sensitive and dramatic photos from all over the globe as much as his music. His images are as distinctive as his tracks because, for him, a beautiful photo has its own harmony. He sees music and he hears images, allowing him to bring about a unique artistic synthesis that evokes the underlying energies and structures of the cosmos, speaking to a universal need for beauty and harmony in a fractured world.   COMMUNICATION   The power of Robert's performances are fuelled by his lack of personal ego: “I'm not playing the instruments,” he says. “The people on the dancefloor are playing me”. He's never DJ'd (“I have so many ideas, I am always trying out my own music”), packs only “underwear and my instruments” to go on tour, and has a single goal: to feel the crowd, make people forget their problems and experience pure joy on the dancefloor: “The perfect moment is when they stop caring about their job, and are in the here and now. You can see it on their faces. They let loose of everything and are completely in the present. This makes me happy.”   CRAFT   Robert continuously pushes the boundaries of electronic music as an artist, consultant, teacher, and engineer. Among Robert's more than 1000 releases are seven albums and a flood of tracks for labels including Bedrock, INTEC, Mille Plateaux, Systematic, Audiomatique, K2, Treibstoff,  SUGA, Punkt and Praxxiz. In recent years, he has focused increasingly on his own imprint, Babiczstyle, which epitomises his sound, emotions and ethos.    Robert's exceptional sound-design, mastering and studio skills have prompted companies like Native Instruments and Apple to request his help on sound-design projects. He also teaches workshops on production and his music philosophy; and is one of the electronic music world's most in-demand mastering artists. Fellow artistes from across the dance music spectrum trust Robert to perfect the technical aspects of their records while rendering the emotions and intention even clearer.    AUTHENTICITY   Babiczstyle is authenticity in action. Wherever he travels the world, Robert is instantly recognisable for his music, his warm smile, his energy, and his bright red scarf. “It's a bit like Superman's cape,” he jokes. The difference is, when Robert puts on the red scarf to perform he doesn't become someone else. Robert's superpower is the integrity of his art and vision: “I don't want to be dreamed by others,” he says. “I want to be myself.”    Facebook: facebook.com/robertbabicz  SoundCloud: soundcloud.com/robbabicz  Instagram instagram.com/robertbabicz Twitter:   @robertbabicz Bandsintown: bandsintown.com/RobertBabicz  YouTube: Robert Babicz Channel Web:  robertbabicz.de Booking World: Jon Woodall @ airlondon Booking DE: Marcel Janovsky @ WIR Booking Press:  Florian Amann @ FOEM Music Communications   About The DJ Sessions - “The DJ Sessions" is a online/downloadable series featuring the hottest electronic music DJ's with live mixes and interviews, streamed live to a global audience. Already starring in a lead role on the Meanwhile roster, Luka Sambe now makes his debut on sister label, Meanwhile Horizons with his 3-track “Spy Games” EP. An artist of notable repute and over 400 production credits to his name, Luka Sambe has come a long wany since a debut EP for Exclusive Recordings in 2013. Releases on Robert Babicz's Babiczstyle, Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat and Guy J's Lost & Found have cemented the Australian's status as one of underground dance's leading lights as he continues to build on an impressive year and an August release on All Day I Dream's “Summer Sampler 2021”. Opening the musical triptych, the title track is a glorious combination of chunky groove and rich melodic juxtaposition. Creating an evocative atmosphere with waves of pulsating pads and subtle motifs, stuttered synth lines filter in and out of sonic range with copious amounts of delay. Building with ease, a searing lead enters the fray at the mid-point to create another layer of intrigue in the aptly titled “Spy Games”. “Ruminate” continues the immaculate percussive groove as clipped hats create a head-shaking pattern atop deep kick. Progressing in delicate fashion, oriental inspired synth lines ripple forth in time-synced delay as a glassy freeform melody supplies a counterpoint phrase. Pads full of stereo width enter the fray at the mid-point providing further texture, before the track hits its mark once more in the third movement where rhythm and melody combine once more to devastating effect. The final track is a glorious electronica offering that revels in ambient percussive effects that create a mesmerising backdrop of real-world sounds transformed into rhythmic patterns. Simultaneously, plucked synth motifs combine with string phrases and myriad textured effects to create a warm and luscious offering that meanders gently across its 8-minute duration in unhurried and evocative fashion. Creating delightful musical tension through a variety of powerful melodic actors, Luka Sambe is making waves on the world stage with his “Spy Games”.

www.beatport.com/release/space-funk/3478448 Robert Babicz is unquestionably one of the leading lights on the electronic scene, with a uniquely emotion-drenched sound that has given rise to a much-bejewelled CV. Recent highlights include his contribution of a whole CD's worth of music to John Digweed's Quattro 2 collection, another lauded album for Marc Romboy's Systematic imprint and a slew of impressive releases on his own Babiczstyle imprint. Robert and Selador have enjoyed a long and fruitful partnership over many years. This has included single releases such as the Red/Green EP (our first ever vinyl release) , One Day We'll Be Happy and Tonefabrik; plus remixes of Paul Rutherford's evergreen Get Real, and most recently the acclaimed breaks and ambient re-rubs of Kiz Pattison & Micah's Beam of Light. The Space Funk collection delivers three tracks of classic Babicz, and has already garnered upfront support from DJs as diverse as Sven Vath, Yousef and Doc Martin, as well as Selador's own Dave Seaman and Steve Parry. Title track Space Funk kicks off proceedings with a lushly cinematic extended ambient intro, before beach bar beats usher in a gorgeous array of sun drenched hooks. A cosmic beauty. Galactic Traveler is constructed with equal thought and care but takes a very different path. Breaks-driven electro stylings provide a bed for a series of memorable motifs that Robert dovetails in masterly fashion. By way of contrast, Golden Days is the heads down dancefloor piledriver in this trio of gems. A Buzzsaw bassline and acid techno riffage are the order of the day, but this being Babicz, dreamily ethereal pads also play a key part. Truly a master at work. Team Selador – Boom, tssst business x

Juliane Wolf likes to combine all kinds of sound and therefore leaves behind any borders. Her electronic music performances as a DJ or live act already took her to places all over Germany, but also to other gigs in Europe such as two performances at Amsterdam Dance Event. Juliane got in touch with vinyl for the first time through a DJ workshop at Club Kassablanca in Jena. After a few years of touring the club scene as a DJ, Juliane went on to dive deeply into the world of music production and playing live. So far, this has led to a remix for Robert Babicz on his label Babiczstyle under her former alias Ayana Blume. She also released music on Paul Hazendonk’s labels Manual Music and MNL, Cinematique Records and many others. Her tracks got support from artists like Nick Warren, Nicole Moudaber, Robert Babicz, Darin Epsilon, Several Definitions, Moosefly, Paul Hazendonk, Marc Poppcke, Piemont, Eelke Kleijn, Lonya, Steve Parry and many more. In 2017 she released her first album Peaceful Heart which climbed into the Beatport Electronica and Progressive House Top 10. After her moving from Germany to Malta we can expect new music: an EP on Manual Music, a remix for the Australian producer Christian Vance on Monog Records and another track on Babiczstyle are already planned for 2018. David Khanjian DAVÍ Los Angeles, California, USA Label's: Crosstown Rebels, Babiczstyle, Bits & Pieces, Treibstoff, Anjunadeep, DELYSID, Crosstown Rebels, Rebellion, Kindisch Biography: Hailed as “LA's best kept secret”, David “DAVI” Khanjian internationally acclaimed DJ, producer, radio host, and label owner grew up surrounded by the sounds of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Deeply passionate about music since childhood, it didn't take long before he was admitted to the prestigious Komitas State Conservatory's music department in Yerevan, Armenia. But it wasn't until his move to Los Angeles that the magic truly began to unfold. At the young age of 17, Davi began producing electronic dance music inspired by many world-class producers and DJjs like Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, Danny Howells and 16 Bit Lolitas. Shortly thereafter he was the resident at the top electronic dance club in Armenia where his career began to unfold. With his move to Los Angeles in 2006, Davi dove right into the underground scene and locked himself in the studio for years to follow while playing at local Los Angeles clubs nights like Monday Night Social at Playhouse, Avalon, and Vanguard. Davi's countless hours in the studio opened many doors for him, first of which was remixing Robert Babiczs' “Zero” anthem which was released on the new Treibstoff label at the time. Earning recognition from top DJs in the scene like John Digweed, Guy J, Nick Warren, and 16 Bit Lolitas; Davi began establishing a name for himself in the Los Angeles underground scene. Shortly thereafter in 2010 Davi became a resident DJ for Insomniac Events in Los Angeles, where he established his residency at Exchange LA and began playing Insomniac Festivals including twice at Escape from Wonderland opening for Richie Hawtin's Enter stage. Since Davi's connection with Insomniac, he has been sharing the decks with some of the top producers and DJ's of our time including John Digweed, Sasha, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Green Velvet, Art Department, James Zabiela and Hernan Cattaneo to name a few. Davi's name can be found on multiple labels today including Rebellion, Anjunadeep, Treibstoff, Hope Recordings, and Baroque. After having attended Burning Man for over six years, Davi collectively put all his Rebel heart inspiration in the studio to create his first Crosstown Rebels EP in 2013 called “Two Suns in the Sky.” This was a tremendous boost to Davi's career, which led him to begin touring worldwide in 2014 having visited London, Amsterdam, Israel, New Caledonia, Canada and all over the United States Miami, New York, Boston, and Las Vegas among others... ссылка davi_official davi_us For bookings contact: angela@theafifigroup.com

There is no doubt that Tim Engelhardt is considered one of the scene's most talented up-and-coming electronic music stars. If you need proof just have a look at his discography: He released his first track at the age of 14, and since then he has gone on to release over 20 singles and EPs before the age of 20 (he is currently 19 years of age). It was the music of fellow Cologne resident Robert Babicz which inspired Tim’s journey into electronic music, and in a serendipitous twist of fate the revered engineer also took Tim under his wing, further inspiring Engelhardt to continue producing. All of his productions have a big emphasis on melody, and it’s this unique melodic sense he possess which has seen labels like Innervisions, Poker Flat, Traum Schallplatten and Babiczstyle all sign Tim Engelhardt tracks. This Balance Selections mix drops just in time for his upcoming Australian tour which includes a highly anticipated slot at Strawberry Fields festival alongside acts like Sebastian Mullaert, Andrew Weatherall, Daniel Avery, Monkey Safari, Frankey & Sandrino.... you get the idea, it's a big lineup. And you won't be disappointed with this effort, it's filled with glorious Tim Engelhardt originals alongside cuts from artists like Trikk and Toto Chiavetta. The future of dance music sure is looking good… Interview + tracklist: www.balancemusic.com.au/news/balance-selections-tim-engelhardt/ Soundcloud: @timengelhardt Facebook: www.facebook.com/tim.engelhardt.artist
