Netmiðilin Popdose.com lýsti stílin sum: 'Village People hittir Pink Floyd', meðani bólkalimirnir sjálvir søgdu 'Kiss hittir Donnu Summer'. Serliga 'Relax' varð spælt nógv í Føroyum, tó næstu tvær a-síðurnar frá albuminum eisini vóru javnan at hoyra. Tónleikurin á Temaplátuni er pumpandi synthpoppur/-rokkur við fleiri synthezisarum sum grund, meðani vanligi ljóðførini eru har onkustaðni aftanfyri. Itunes hjá Apple kallar stílin 'Dance'(diskotek)', hvat hann eisini er, tó hetta sjálvandi ikki kann sigast um róligu løgini, harav 'The Power of Love' framvegis er ein væl dámdur 'sjelari'.

A (relatively) in-depth analysis of the pop band Frankie Goes To Hollywood in just under thirty minutes.Goes to Hollywood signed to ZTT Records in 1983. Their debut album, Welcome to the Pleasuredome was released in 1984. Produced by Trevor Horn, it achieved advance sales of more than a million, and their first three singles, Relax, Two Tribes and The Power of Love, reached number one on the UK singles chart.Their second album, Liverpool was released in 1986. The album sold fewer copies, and they disbanded acrimoniously the following year. Holly Johnson successfully sued ZTT to leave his contract and began a solo career. He declined invitations to reunite and attempted to block the band from using the Frankie name. In 2004, the group reunited without Holly Johnson and Brian Nash to perform at a Prince's Trust charity concert, with Ryan Molloy on vocals, and underwent a subsequent tour in 2005. In 2011, ZTT reissued an expanded edition of Liverpool, plus The Art of the 12", a compilation of tracks from ZTT artists including Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Universal Music purchased ZTT in 2017. The group reunited with Johnson and Nash for the first time since 1987 to perform for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.Holly Johnson and Paul Rutherford were openly gay throughout the group's existence, making Frankie Goes to Hollywood the first openly gay major pop act, with gay rights and sexuality becoming a theme of their music and performances. The BBC famously banned them from broadcast, which only generated further publicity. It has been reported that a Frankie Goes to Hollywood biographical film is in development, based on Johnson's memoir. Bernard Rose, who was responsible for the Relax music video, is set to direct, with Callum Scott Howells as Johnson. In this episode I am in conversation with Dr. Andrew Webber.I hope you enjoy the podcast and do leave feedback if you like what you have heard.Mathew Woodall

We are chuffed to see the Bunnyman! Will just got off tour; it was 11 out of 10- weird!People still like our band's music all these years later. Ancient history. It's just weird? Bugger all else to do so we plundered a lot of different music. Whats a wooly back? A sheep in wolf's clothing. Paul Rutherford in radical Pajamas. Band names had to be short to write on yer gasbag. Until Punk, music life was unobtainable, Punk said you don't need any of that. Will's book is a social history. It's Brilliant: Kirby = Crawley. Will explains the "Cure "photo in his book. Wills brother thought the Cure were the Bunnymen! We had identical suits, perhaps? MVCU, where Budgie was happy to spray the door. Boris makes a surprise appearance on the show! One night of madness in Crawley, like being in the trenches. Will saw the Cure, Passions, and Associates in Liverpool Erics. All bands played Erics despite the beer swamp and low ceiling. It was a big deal when Budgie left Liverpool. Budgies gone, what are we going to do? Grist for the mill works. The three survivors. There are plenty of casualties out there; Budgie, Lol, and Will discover that they have a Psychic commonality.CONNECT WITH US:Curious Creatures:Website: https://curiouscreaturespodcast.comFacebook: @CuriousCreaturesOfficialTwitter: @curecreaturesInstagram: @CuriousCreaturesOfficialLol Tolhurst: Website: https://loltolhurst.comFacebook: @officialloltolhurst Twitter: @LolTolhurst Instagram: @lol.tolhurst Budgie: Facebook: @budgieofficial Twitter: @TuWhit2whooInstagram: @budgie646Will SergeantFacebook: @offical.willsergeantTwitter: @Will_FuzzInstagram: @willsergeantEcho and the BunnymenFacebook: @thebunnymenTwitter: @BunnymenInstagram: @officialbunnymen Curious Creatures is a partner of the Double Elvis podcast network. www.beatport.com/release/space-funk/3478448 Robert Babicz is unquestionably one of the leading lights on the electronic scene, with a uniquely emotion-drenched sound that has given rise to a much-bejewelled CV. Recent highlights include his contribution of a whole CD's worth of music to John Digweed's Quattro 2 collection, another lauded album for Marc Romboy's Systematic imprint and a slew of impressive releases on his own Babiczstyle imprint. Robert and Selador have enjoyed a long and fruitful partnership over many years. This has included single releases such as the Red/Green EP (our first ever vinyl release) , One Day We'll Be Happy and Tonefabrik; plus remixes of Paul Rutherford's evergreen Get Real, and most recently the acclaimed breaks and ambient re-rubs of Kiz Pattison & Micah's Beam of Light. The Space Funk collection delivers three tracks of classic Babicz, and has already garnered upfront support from DJs as diverse as Sven Vath, Yousef and Doc Martin, as well as Selador's own Dave Seaman and Steve Parry. Title track Space Funk kicks off proceedings with a lushly cinematic extended ambient intro, before beach bar beats usher in a gorgeous array of sun drenched hooks. A cosmic beauty. Galactic Traveler is constructed with equal thought and care but takes a very different path. Breaks-driven electro stylings provide a bed for a series of memorable motifs that Robert dovetails in masterly fashion. By way of contrast, Golden Days is the heads down dancefloor piledriver in this trio of gems. A Buzzsaw bassline and acid techno riffage are the order of the day, but this being Babicz, dreamily ethereal pads also play a key part. Truly a master at work. Team Selador – Boom, tssst business x

Um, they, they have a great program and it gives me a discount and you get a longer money back guarantee, but you know, you shouldn't be buying these things unless you're ready to advance your business.

Ashley Wales is our next guest who shares his musical journey and stories with us. He was half of Spring Heel Jack the drum and bass act of the 1990s and co-writer and producer of the 1996 track "Walking Wounded," a major UK hit for Everything But The Girl[2] featuring Ben Watt. Past collaborators included saxophonists Evan Parker, John Tchicai and Tim Berne; bassist William Parker; trumpeters Roy Campbell, Kenny Wheeler and Wadada Leo Smith; trombonist Paul Rutherford; drummer Han Bennink; pianist Matthew Shipp; and guitarist Jason Pierce. In 2006 John Coxon the other member of Spring Heel Jack and Wales began to operate a record label, Treader, releasing CDs by themselves and other associated artists, including some of their recent collaborators. Song chosen by artist: Cornell Campbell's Trick In the Book .
Mark Griffiths and Ollie Williams go through a frustrating afternoon at The Racecourse. Paul Rutherford was sent off, but no-one seemed to realise, Halifax scored a goal which might have been offside, Wrexham managed their longest unbeaten home league run since September 2015, and Ollie managed to get cramp while commentating. Twice. Once in each leg. Madness.
This series, from 1983, gave me a chance to ponder issues, concerning the power and responsibility of journalistic media, that had preoccupied me every since I had begun working for CBC Radio twelve years before. Two "hooks" provided the occasion. The first was the calling of a Royal Commission to consider the problem of growing monopoly in the newspaper business. This was the Kent Commission, after commissioner Tom Kent, which reported in 1981. The second was the publication, in 1980, of the book which gave the series its title, Anthony Smith's The Geo-Politics of Information, a book on the clamour in what was then generally called the Third World for a New World Information Order, so-called, one not totally dominated by Western media. Both of these question are addressed - the history (and myth) of the free press in Part One, the New World Information Order debate in Part Two - but the series also allowed me to go further. Part Three looks at foreign news and draws heavily on the work of Noam Chomsky and Edward Said. Chomsky had recently published, with Edward Herman, a two volume work called The Political Economy of Human Rights, which had had a huge influence in shaping my view of media. In these books Chomsky and Herman show how a nominally free press faithfully reproduces what they call "imperial ideology." Said, for his part, had just brought out Covering Islam, a book in which he brought the thesis of his celebrated Orientalism into the present with a consideration of contemporary news coverage of Islamic countries. The final show of the set focused on the news industry's "mode of production" and the ways in which it shapes its finished product. One notable thing about this series was the number of prominent scholars in the field who agreed to take part. I have mentioned Chomsky and Said, but there was also Stuart Hall, James Curran, Gaye Tuchman, Lewis Lapham, Todd Gitlin and many others. Another was the strength of the interviews I recorded for the series, which led me into my first questioning of the documentary format in which I was then working. Documentaries have narrative requirements which tend to dictate how the component interviews will be edited. Mad Magazine used to joke, in a satire on the New York Times famous slogan, "all the news thats fit to print," that it presented "all the news that fits the print"; and documentaries are the same. The "clips" that will be cut out of the interviews will be those that fit the narrative requirements of the documentary. This generally precludes any sustained attention to the individual character or context of the thinkers who are quoted. Reflection on this issue led to the approach that I generally took in my work for Ideas after 1990 in which my subjects, wherever possible, were presented one-at-a-time and in depth. The participants in the series were as follows:Part One: Paul Rutherford, James Curran, Anthony Smith, Stuart Hall, Lewis Lapham, Carman Cumming, Todd GitlinPart Two: Juan Somavia, Rohan Samarajiva, Herbert Schiller, Anthony Smith, Tom McPhail, Bill Harley, Barry ZwickerPart Three: Edward Said, Stuart Hall, Noam Chomsky, James Aronson, Tom KentPart Four: Stuart Hall, Lewis Lapham, Gaye Tuchman, James Curran,Todd Gitlin, Carman Cumming, Paul Rutherford, Jeremy Wilson, Noam ChomskyA transcript of the series is available on the Transcripts page of the site.
Wrexham go top of the league as Paul Rutherford celebrates his 400th career game with the winner, and his first goal at The Racecourse! Mark Griffiths and Matt Crosby look back on a game of two halves, sort of.
