Send us a Text Message. In this episode of Quivercast, we sit down with New York's surfing sensation, Balaram Stack @_balaram. Deeply rooted in the Big Apple, Balaram's love for his hometown is unwavering, and he insists he'll probably never leave. However, each winter, he trades the chilly streets of New York for the warm waves of Hawaii. Balaram's journey to the North Shore began when he was a young grom, captivated by the allure of Hawaii's legendary surf scene. Over the years, he's cultivated a deep affection for the North Shore's powerful waves and vibrant surfing community.Despite starting his surfing career in contests, Balaram quickly realized there was more to surfing than just competition. This epiphany led him to explore other facets of the sport, eventually culminating in an opportunity to create a film about his unique experiences. The film not only showcases his growth as a surfer in New York but also serves as a heartfelt tribute to his mother. Join us as Balaram shares insights into his life, his passion for surfing, and the stories behind his journey from the bustling streets of New York to the iconic waves of Hawaii. How did Ruby Balaram go from being a reluctant dog mom to pet industry CEO? You don't want to miss this episode. Like me, Ruby grew up in a house where she wasn't allowed to have pets - except that one time she & her mom tried to sneak in a cat! So when Ruby met her partner, Turk, he came with a dog and she wasn't so sure about jumping into the Dog Mom Life. But when Turk's dog got a second cancer diagnosis, Ruby witnesses the power of feeding fresh real food to dogs when the grumpy old Doberman started running around with puppy-like energy. Ruby & Turk were so amazed that they wanted to start a company to make fresh real food accessible to all dog owners. Ruby shares their early entrepreneurial journey with us and all the pivots they made along the way to form Real Dog Box in 2015. No matter what diet you feed your dog, Real Dog Box is an easy and affordable way to add fun and healthy variety to your dog's bowl. And you definitely don't want to miss out on the fun of the Secret Shop! Ruby & her team have now launched the Feed Real Institute which was born out of all the questions they've received from Pet Parents over the past 8 years. Creating digital courses for both Pet Parents and Veterinarians, Ruby wants everyone to have access to the scientific-backed information showing the healthiest food choices for our dogs. Our guest this week when not traveling and scoring waves, splits his timebetween his home in New York and Winters on the Northshore. He is one of themost creative aerialists out there as well as a hard charging barrel ridingextraordinaire. His talents were discovered at a young age by Quiksilver during asummer surf camp and having early success on winning numerous amateurcontests and air shows. It was to no surprise that Quik would invest and send himto Australia to train with legendary surf trainer “Mick Cain”. Results from traininghard and pure talent… he won the wildcard to compete at home in the 2011Quiksilver Pro New York. With years of traveling and paying his dues in heavyhollow waves in places like Mainland Mexico, Tahiti, Fiji, and winters in Hawaii,he eventually made a name for himself in lineup at The Banzai Pipeline. You'veseen him on Youtube, or one of his films “Stacked" or "Hail Mary”, or maybe on StabHighway California and definitely on the podium winning the 2022 Van's PipeMaster, we welcome Balaram “BAL“ Stack.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The film illustrates the beautiful relationship between the two, and shows the important bond that helped shape Balaram into becoming the incredible surfer he is today. Multi-award winning independent filmmaker, Ben Gulliver takes us on a beautiful cinematic journey that is Balaram's life.On the first episode, in order to know who Balaram is, we need to know where he came from and that story starts way before Balaram was born. It starts in the mid 70's where Mary Stack, as a single mother had just moved to Brooklyn with a little toddler named Red, Balaram's oldest brother. It's there, in a tiny apartment, that you can pinpoint as the start of this journey. Mary sat with filmmaker Ben Gulliver, going through old photos. Balarama Dasa was an Odia poet and litterateur. He was one of the 5 great poets in Odia literature, the Panchasakha during the Bhakti age of literature. He was the eldest of the Pancha sakha. He wrote the Jagamohana Ramayana also known as Dandi Ramayana.
Mike Nelson, the godfather of NY surf photography, has been documenting almost every swell since 1991, when his mother bought him a Minolta Weathermatic waterproof 35mm film camera. Whenever there was a swell, Mike was on it. Neither rain, nor sleet nor snow could keep him from photographing some of the best sessions in New York Surf History. North of Nowhere is a collection of images documenting New York and the northeast surfing scene. It's nostalgic but also eye opening look at the evolution of this once backwater surf scene. From the Lido Surf & Sport reign, to Ryan Carlson's Martin Potter like impact on the local surfing performances, to tragedies such as 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy, and the incredible peak moments and long past swells. It was edited and co written by the former editor of Eastern Surf Magazine, Matt Pruett, a fitting partner to the making of this book. The two have created a time capsule of a special era and is a perfect documentary on New York Surfing. We were lucky enough to have Mike Nelson, Matt Pruett and Balaram stack on hand at Pilgrim Surf & Supply in Brooklyn to discuss the book, the influences, and the impact that these photos have had on our community. It was recorded in front of a live audience and for anyone who calls themselves a New York Local, you don't want to miss out on this conversation. After the Mahabharata War was over, only Ten remained alive, Three from the Kaurava Side and Seven from the Pandavas. They are, Pandavas 5 Lord Krishna, Sathyaki. From the Kaurava Side Aswathama, Kruthavarma and Krupa.(Mahabharata ,Adi Parva) At Dwaraka, the Yadava Clan was in tact, save those killed in the Mahabharata War( Krishna' Army fought on the side of the Kauravas) The Yadav Clan were playing around and one of the Yadavas dressed up Krishna's son Sambhava(born of Jambavathi), as a pregnant woman and asked the Rishis who were passing by, what child the lady would beget(Sambhava) The Rishi replied that knew that it is Krishna's son Sambhava and he would beget a Pounder (used to break Grains- Ulakkai) and it it would destroy the Yadava vamsa. On being informed of this Lord Krishna smiled and said that no body can change the Curse of a Brahmin. After ten months a Pounder was born of Sambhava. Thinking that they were clever, the Yadavas, broke the wooden pestle(Ulakkai) into small pieces an threw them into the sea in Dwaraka. The tip of the pestle, made of iron was swallowed by a Fish, and it was caught by a Fisherman. He found the piece and fixed it to the tip of his arrow. The wooden pieces reached ashore and grew into a bush of Long Grass. While this is so, one day the Yadavas were drinking and an altercation ensued as who betrayed the Kauravas the most. A riot ensued and even Krishna was attacked by his Clan. His Chariot was dragged into the sea, so were His Panchyutas, which went perambulated Lord Krishna clock-wise and disappeared. From the Balaram's face a Serpent came out and entered Heavens and Balram was no more Lord Krishna lay under a tree and was taking rest. The hunter who had the iron tip in his arrow , from a distance saw, thought he saw a Deer and sent in his arrow. It struck Krishna and he left His Mortal Coil. The Hunter prayed for forgiveness. Krishna informed him that it was because of the Curse, he had nothing to do with His Death and granted him Vaikunta. As there were none to perform the last Rites,Arjuna performed the last Rites of Krishna. Krishna's Father , Vasudeva was the brother of Kunti (Mother of the Pandavas) Krishna and Arjuna were First Cousins. Arjun married Subhadra (Krishna's Half-Sister) The nearest surviving relation on the mother's side were the Pandavas. Technically Yudhistra should have performed, being the eldest off the Pandavas. *Arjuna could have performed the last Rites because, in addition to being Krishna's cousin, he was also marrired Krishna's half sister ( smriti grants this Right if no others are available) and As Krishna put it in Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna was His dearest Friend and as Arjuna put it Arjuna was Krishna' most deovted Disciple.) *Purana merely states Arjuna performed Krishna's last Rites. The interpretation is mine, based on Smriti. Deavaki ,Vasudeva and Rukmini left their bodies by entering Fire. What were the lectures of Krishan, Balaram and Satyaki in King Virat's court for the suggestion of next step after Agyantvas ( A year to remain unidentified as per the condition ). Who is Satyaki and Why he opposes Balaram's opinion? King Drupad's advice and why Pandav sent the messenger first. What was Dhrutarastra's reaction after listening to the message from Pandav? A story of Nar & Naraya told by Bhishma. Why did Dhrutarastra send Sanjay as a messenger? How did Krishna reply to the message of Sanjay? In this episode ( fifth part of the first verse of the first chapter of Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta ), I am going to answer the above questions in relation to the discussion of the word 'Yuyustva' ( Desire for War ). Besides we will talk about the how Krishna left as a messenger on behalf of Pandav and whom he took with him.

Part 2 of a conversation with the poetic Ayurvedic practitioner Balaram Chandra das, where we dig into some of the challenges of being a responsible teacher, models of education and how they work (or don't) in yoga and Ayurveda, as well as multiple Ayurvedic concepts, including springtime Ayurvedic concepts and care. • Balaram's familial history of curanderos (healers), and how he's stepping into his lineage as a healer through Ayurveda • Being introduced to Ayurveda through the food science of cooking for best digestion, and learning how to cook for his guru's Ayurvedic diet • The unusual experience of his first encounter with an Ayurvedic practitioner • The impossibility of separating philosophy and practicality of Ayurveda, and the challenges of being a responsible teacher • Ayurveda's holistic perception of your experience, including all of your abilities, limitations and culture • Giving clients the option of perceiving reality differently through consistent regular association and digestible amounts of theory • I ask Balaram for his “quick and dirty Ayurvedic springtime tips”, and he gives us a wonderful explanation of why there is no one prescription for springtime • He even carries it through to summertime Ayurvedic practices www.intelligentedge.yoga
