A young recruit embarks on Basic Military Training soon after 9/11, leaving behind a gravely ill grandmother who raised her. A few weeks in, she experiences a vivid dream—more real than any she's had before—where her grandmother appears happy, whole, and free from her pain. Though she senses it's her final farewell, the comfort she gains from that brief reunion transcends the heartbreak of losing her in reality. This will be a conversation about how, in the military, individuals from diverse backgrounds can come together under a shared purpose to contribute to something bigger than themselves and serve their nation. The contributions of immigrants who serve and swear allegiance to the nation are recognized and appreciated. So for a little background, non-U.S. citizens may be eligible to apply for naturalization, which is the process by which U.S. citizenship is granted to a lawful permanent resident after meeting the requirements established by Congress, as defined by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. For many, joining the U.S. military offers a fast track to becoming a U.S. citizen. In this episode, Technical Sgt. Timothy Thorpe, a Massachusetts Air National Guard recruiter, and his recruit, Airman Daniel Olubodun will join us to talk about their experience. Airman Olubodun is native to Nigeria, was granted U.S. citizenship during Basic Military Training. For more information about U.S. Citizenship through military service, reach out to a local Air National Guard recruiter or Military One Source has some incredible resources for you to check out. Support is available to service members and their families who have questions about applying for citizenship. You may also call the USCIS toll-free Military Help Line: 877-247-4645.

This week on the Vill House Podcast we're talking about our experiences in Air Force Basic Military Training. It's been 15 plus years since we went through basic training, but we still remember much of the experience. Everyone has a different experience in basic training and ours turned out to be a good one. From preparing to leave to basic training to field training at Lackland Air Force Base, we look back at how we got through basic training.
Ryan is joined by his brother Jason. In this episode, we will go through ten misconceptions about basic military training. From the misconceptions about drill sergeants, the purpose of boot camps, and false conceptions about what it takes to be successful in the military, we will discuss it all. We then pick the worst one.
Network systems class member Ty recently returned from basic military training. He "tells it like it is" and shares his experiences with us.

Welcome to Basic Military Training. This weeks lesson: Grace.
Hands down, one of the episodes that I never could've imagined would ever happen. I've touched on the time I was in the Air Force on previous episodes. This coming March 20th will be 25 years to the day that I arrived at Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. My guest on this Full Length Bonus Episode of The Brooklyn Blast Furnace Podcast is MSgt. David Raushenberger (Ret.). My MTI (Military Training Instructor). This entire episode was surreal on a personal level. We go into his past, the reason why I joined, what led me to join his Flight from the initial Flight I was assigned to, I confess to some shenanigans that I would've gotten into a lot of trouble for if I was caught, he fills me in on some "inside info" on how they mess around with trainees amongst a bunch of other stories. One of, if not my favorite episode that I've done so far. Simply because of personal, nostalgic reasons. I hope you enjoy this one. Respect.

The topic that is at the top of our most asked about list is magic. The how's, the why's, and the why-nots. We here at the podcast have heard the call, and this episode, we set about starting our response to your questions by breaking down magic into its simplest forms. From explaining the best way to inform new players how magic works, to creating new spell actions, and everything in between. Not to be outdone, on Die Casting we answer a burning question about the Basic Military Training talent and how to make your own talents using this as a template. In Breaking the Mould, we speak with the author of the Inquisition setting, Guillaume Tardif, about the setting and how it all works. And we also make some time to answer a couple of listener questions about running the net and creating a mage-punk setting. So, have your spell book at the ready, as GM Hooly and GM Chris de-mystify the mystical on The Forge. Are you considering joining the military? Do you wonder what the process is like? My guest this week is at Basic Military Training right now and will be graduating very soon. But before she left for training she told me about her path to military life. It certainly wasn't easy for her to get to where she is today. My guest today in Mariah Hammond. Mariah is a military spouse. I had the opportunity to interview Mariah for my book, Women of the Military, when she was looking into joining the military. And I am excited to follow up with her as her journey to military life has not been easy. I wanted to talk about how much time it takes to join the military and some of the challenges people face while working to join the military. Can the words of a song have an impact on your life? Growing up Mariah remembers listening to Toby Keith sing about the Red White and Blue and it made her want to join the military. There were other factors that led her on the path she is on today, but she can always remember how it started with a song. She met her now husband in high school. They were really good friends and when she told him about looking into the military he decided to look into his own military career and joined the Air Force. Time went by and eventually they got married and she moved to Lackland AFB where the Air Force does Basic Military Training (BMT) and she was inspired again to join the military. When she went to meet with the recruiter, she ended up having a kidney stone. This immediately disqualified her from taking the military physical for a year. She took the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) and waited for time to pass so she could go to the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) for her military medical physical. At MEPS another medical issue came up that required a waiver. It felt as if joining the military wouldn’t happen. And after a year of waiting to swear into the delayed entry program she felt like her dream of serving was falling apart. Months passed and finally her waiver was approved and she swore into the delayed entry program. Even though it took almost two years from when she first met with a recruiter to the point where she actually joined the Air Force, she said it was worth it. Hopefully I can do a follow up interview with Mariah next season to get caught up on what boot camp and tech school were like and what has happened since this interview took place. Mentioned in this episode: Women of the Military Book Are you considering joining the military? Check out my free guide: A Girls Guide to Military Life to help you prepare for the military.
