Dave Nordel is a retired United States Air Force Command Chief Master Sergeant with over 30 years of service. He is a registered nurse who specialized in Emergency Medicine and an emergency manager who served as a medic in areas of operations including Saudi Arabia, Somalia, South America, Iraq, Korea, Japan, and Hungary. He has a vast knowledge of leading a variety of different teams ranging in size. Dave grew up in rural Northern California in a dairy farming community and experienced all that brings to a young man raised in the late '60s and '70s. Dave left home at 19 to join the Air Force and ascended through the enlisted ranks to culminate as the senior enlisted leader for all nuclear missile forces in the United States. He has lead city government activities and large organizations as an emergency manager for multiple communities through Covid-19 and other disaster situations. He is a mentor and speaks to young leaders to aid their development and future successes. He is passionate about veteran transition and offers authentic perspectives on PTSD, moral injury, and other mental health challenges. He continues to give back the gifts he has collected along the way. Dave has also written a #1 best-selling book Giving Back! Melvin Jenner was already in the Michigan Air National Guard when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. After joining the U.S. Army Air Corps and undergoing training for a bomber crew, he was soon flying missions in the European Theater of World War II. The next few years would bring him harrowing bomber missions, a secret flight over Normandy on D-Day, and an unforgettable role in the Berlin Airlift.In this edition of "Veterans Chronicles," Jenner tells us how he ended up flying missions in the A-20 with the British Royal Air Force before he ever flew with an American crew - and about his shock when he discovered those missions with the UK did not count towards his total needed for a ticket home.Jenner also describes his roles as radio man and gunner on the B-17, the most tense missions of the war and what it was like to fly through flak. He also shares what he saw from the sky as he flew over the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944.But Jenner's memorable career did not end with the war. He also shares an emotional recollection of serving in the Berlin Airlift as the U.S. flew in provisions to break the Soviet blockade there. Finally, he tells about his role in helping Chuck Yeager break the sound barrier.

William Walter joined the U.S. Air Force in 1976. Two years later he arrived at Hurlburt Field in Florida for AC-130 gunship training. Over the next couple of decades, his serice in Air Force special operations would place him on missions from Operation Eagle Claw to rescue U.S. hostages in Iran to Operation Just Cause in Panama to Operation Desert Storm, among several others.In this edition of "Veterans Chronicles," CMSgt. Walter vividly describes what makes serving aboard AC-130 gunships special and why those who serve there almost never leave. He then takes us inside the unsuccessful mission to Iran in 1980 and what the role of the AC-130's was supposed to be. He also explains the assignment for the gunship crews in rescuing medical students in Grenada in 1983.Much of this conversation centers around Walter's role during Operation Just Cause in December 1989, the effort to seize Rio Hato airfield, and what that combat was really like. Finally, he shares what the AC-130 crews were tasked with in the Gulf War, Somalia, and Bosnia. And he shares the tragic stories of teams lost in Iraq and near Somalia.

On a classified assignment, CMSgt Etchberger's radar site came under heavy attack from NVA forces. Etchberger was awarded the Medal of Honor for saving his fellow airmen at the cost of his own life.

CMSGT Morrell rode along on bomber missions over Europe as a combat cameraman in order to document them. He was called upon several times to replace gunners after they had been killed, and was shot down three times during his service. – Doug Morrell joined the Army Air Corps two years before World War Two as a combat cameraman. He completed glider pilot training, and was sent to the University of Southern California for a year to study film and photography.  Once the war started, Morrell accompanied crews on various missions all over Europe and Africa. It was his job to document the mission with film or photos so that the operation's execution could be evaluated afterwards. He almost exclusively flew on bomber missions, and was called upon several times to replace gunners mid-fight after they had been killed. As a result, he was provided with the gunner's wings despite never going to gunnery school. On one mission, Morrell's aircraft was shot down over the “Iron Gates” of Romania. As a navigator was bailing Morrell and a gunner out, he made a mistake that sent them miles away from where the rest of the crew landed. The two of them spent twenty-six days evading capture and walking across the mountains of modern day Kosovo and northern Albania. Eventually they reached the Adriatic Sea, where they paid a fisherman to take them to Italy where they could meet up with allied forces. Morrell was later shot down in Romania again, but this time he was captured by German forces. He was kept in a prison camp for four and a half months before being rescued by the Russians. After that, he was sent back to the States.  These two incredible stories earned him the nickname “The Legend,”, but his adventures were far from over. He was redeployed to Europe during the Cold War, spent five years in Panama documenting civic actions, and served in Korea and Vietnam.  In Vietnam, Morrell would be shot down for a third and final time, where he shattered a bone in his ankle on landfall. He landed in hostile territory, and radioed for help. Nine hours and one firefight later, Morrell was air evaced to safety. Schultz is the Command Chief Master Sergeant, Air Force Sustainment Center, headquartered at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma. Chief Schultz is the senior enlisted leader and advisor to the commander for the center, leading 40,000 total force Airmen spanning three air logistics complexes, three air base wings, and two supply chain wings which operate from 26 locations around the world. Chief Schultz is responsible for ensuring the commander's directions are carried out to execute the assigned mission of providing mission-essential support to joint and interagency operations, allies, coalition partners, and foreign military sales partners to deliver combat power for America. Chief Schultz enlisted in the Air Force in 1996 and has an extensive background in the Air Transportation and First Sergeant career fields having served in the Pacific, European, and Middle Eastern theaters. He has deployed to various locations in support of Operations IRAQI and ENDURING FREEDOM, New DAWN, and Joint Task Force Horn of Africa.
