Bart (44) botst regelmatig met collega's, zijn partner en anderen. Hoe meer mensen van hem verlangen dat hij dingen (op een bepaalde manier) doet, hoe meer hij zich verzet. Hij wordt daardoor vaak als 'lastig' en tegendraads ervaren, terwijl zijn bedoelingen juist goed zijn. Waarom gebeurt dit steeds?

July 16 is the celebration of a prominent title of the Blessed Virgin Mary — Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The devotion traces back to 12th-century hermits living on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land. She is especially known as the patroness of the Carmelite Order and the Brown Scapular. The title originates from a group of Christian hermits led by St. Berthold (1140-95) and St. Brocard (1170-1231) who settled on Mount Carmel—the biblical site associated with the Prophet Elijah (900-850 BC)—with the blessing of St. Albert, the Latin Patriarch of of Jerusalem (1149-1214). These hermits built a chapel dedicated to Mary and eventually became known as the Brothers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. They viewed Mary as their spiritual mother and the "Lady of the place," integrating the contemplation of Elijah with devotion to the Virgin. Central to this devotion is the Brown Scapular. According to Carmelite tradition, Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock (1165-1265), a leader of the order, on July 16, 1251, and presented him with the scapular. She promised that those who die wearing it would be preserved from eternal fire. The scapular serves not as a charm, but as a sacramental sign of Mary's protection and a commitment to living a life of prayer and devotion. Mira (38) voelt regelmatig angst dat haar man minder van haar houdt en dat hij haar minder nodig heeft dan zij hem. Terwijl hij altijd zegt dat hij hartstikke gelukkig is met haar en hun gezin. Ze wil onderzoeken hoe ze haar angst hierover kan loslaten.

Bart (47) heeft het gevoel dat hij nooit echt begonnen is met leven. Hij heeft geen relatie, weinig sociale contacten en is afgekeurd voor werk. Hij vraagt zich af wat zijn leven betekent. Hij wil wel dingen, maar het voelt alsof hij geen regie heeft over zijn leven.

Rutger (35) woont voor het eerst met zijn gezin in een koophuis. Na al het klussen ziet het huis er hartstikke goed uit, maar toch ervaart hij veel stress omdat hij vindt dat het 100% perfect moet zijn. Waarom komt die druk vandaan?

Joke (43) vindt dat ze te veel moppert, vooral op rommel van haar kinderen. Gymkleren, broodtrommels, jassen: ze liggen maar zelden op de goede plek. Ze weet dat kinderen nou eenmaal rommel maken en daarom vindt ze stom van zichzelf dat ze vaak mopperend door het huis loopt.

Koen (33) zit regelmatig op de blaren door eerdere keuzes die hij vol overtuiging maakte. Zo wilde hij tijdens een veiligheidstraining laten zien hoe het níet moest, waarna hij beide ellebogen scheurde. Hij wilde zijn psychotische buurman helpen, maar nu is hij onveilig in zijn eigen huis. Waarom gebeurt het steeds weer?Let op: in deze aflevering komt verslaving en middelengebruik ter sprake.

Sunny (53) eet vaak als er niemand kijkt. Zodra haar man even niet oplet, duikt ze de koektrommel in. En als haar man aankondigt dat hij zo weggaat, gaan haar gedachten meteen naar ‘wat ligt er nog in de kast dat ik straks kan gaan eten?' Ze heeft een groot oordeel over deze vreetbuien en wil er vanaf.Shownotes:

Paul (47) kan zich bovengemiddeld opwinden als mensen zich niet aan impliciete of maatschappelijke regels houden. Zoals mensen die net buiten een parkeervak parkeren, harder rijden dan 50 of tegen de richting in rijden waar dat niet mag. Maar ook de collega die altijd net iets te laat komt, is een bron van frustratie. Hij voelt dat het buitenproportioneel is, maar snapt niet waar het vandaan komt.

Simone (26) durft niet alleen naar buiten. Dagelijkse dingen - zoals boodschappen doen - zijn door haar angst haast onmogelijk. Ze durft soms wel met haar partner naar buiten, maar dat gaat ook met grote moeite. Samen met Berthold onderzoekt ze wat er diep onder die angst ligt.

Mirjam (48) heeft er moeite mee dat haar man weinig sociale contacten heeft, ook al weet ze dat hij daar oprecht geen behoefte aan heeft. Daarom vindt ze het stom van zichzelf dat zij dit toch als probleem ervaart en wil ze onderzoeken wat eronder ligt. 

Liesbeth (34) krijgt weleens te horen dat een ‘7 of 8 ook goed genoeg is'. Daar kan ze ontzettend boos om worden, want zij vindt dat je sommige dingen gewoon in één keer goed moet doen. Maar is dit gezond perfectionisme, of zit er toch meer achter?

Triggerwaarschuwing: in dit gesprek komt het onderwerp zelfdoding voor.  Raven (26) vraagt zich ten diepste af wat het leven haar nog te bieden heeft. Na een zware jeugd voelt ze zich verloren in het volwassen leven, zonder handleiding of houvast. Ze twijfelt of ze nog wel door wil gaan met dit leven.

Marcel (22) voelt regelmatig angst dat hij niet goed genoeg is voor zijn vriendschappen. Hij weet rationeel dat het wel goed zit, maar toch heeft hij vaak stress na een gezellige avond. Bang dat hij te veel was of dat zijn vrienden hem niet meer willen.

Sharon (33) voelt vaak veel verantwoordelijkheid voor problemen die niet van haar zijn. Zo voelt ze zich verplicht om de ober te attenderen als iemand al een tijdje met zijn hand omhoog zit. En voelt ze zich jaren na het stoppen met haar baan als sociaal werkster nog steeds schuldig naar haar cliënten.

Sandra (54) is al 6 jaar samen met haar verloofde. Ze zou graag met hem willen samenwonen, maar ze krijgt paniekgedachten als ze denkt aan verhuizen. Na een traumatisch verleden waarin ze 3 jaar thuisloos is geweest met haar zoon, durft ze haar huis nu niet meer op te zeggen.

Bernhard (40) is al lang vrijgezel en zou graag een liefdesrelatie willen. Maar zijn emetofobie (angst voor overgeven) zit hem behoorlijk in de weg bij het daten.

Akke (31) kan ontzettend boos op zichzelf worden tijdens het sporten, tot huilens aan toe. En daar schaamt ze zich dan weer voor. Maar het gebeurt alleen als ze met anderen sport, of het nou voor de lol is of in wedstrijdvorm.

Patrick (51) heeft een lastige verhouding met geld. Hij leeft heel zuinig en durft niet goed geld uit te geven, terwijl hij er meer dan genoeg van heeft. Ergens schuilt de overtuiging dat hij een charlatan is en het geld niet verdient.

Reina (35) voelt zich vaak chaotisch in het dagelijks leven als moeder. Ze vergeet regelmatig dingen en maakt ‘fouten'. Ze krijgt daar veel stress van en is daardoor steeds op zoek naar bevestiging van haar man en anderen dat ze het goed genoeg doet. 

Caroline (64) voelt constant een sluimerende frustratie en schiet snel uit haar slof. Als iemand z'n tas niet weghaalt van een stoel in de trein of als haar man de planten gaat water geven op het moment dat het eten klaar is. Niet dat boosheid slecht is, maar zó boos vindt ze een beetje overdreven.

Miranda (54) heeft al haar hele leven het gevoel dat ze er niet toe doet. Ze voelt zich onzichtbaar, onbelangrijk, een nobody. Op feestjes, tijdens de yogales, in sociale contacten. Ze vraagt zich altijd af "wie er nou op haar zit te wachten".

Mark (34) is streng voor zichzelf, soms op het obsessieve af. Vanuit onzekerheid en faalangst probeert hij maximaal controle te houden. Dingen moeten perfect gaan, anders komt er een sluimerende angst uit het verleden naar boven om niet mee te tellen.

Als haar man ziek op de bank ligt, raakt Karin (49) al geïrriteerd als hij hoest. Uiteraard probeert ze het te verbergen, want ze weet best dat het nergens op slaat. Ze vindt dat ze zich zorgzamer moet opstellen, maar dat lukt niet. Ook bij haar zus of een collega kan ze dit gevoel ervaren.

Trigger waarschuwing: in dit gesprek komt het onderwerp huiselijk geweld voor. Amir (37) is op zijn tiende naar Nederland gekomen. Hij voelde zich vaak buitengesloten en afgewezen en werd mishandeld door zijn vader. Als volwassene vulde hij zijn eenzaamheid op met het inhuren van escorts, wat hem diep in de schulden bracht. Die schulden heeft hij afgelost, maar hoe los je een leven zonder (zelf)liefde op?

Als Mila (24) en haar vriend om vijf uur hebben afgesproken, staat Mila om vier uur al in de wachtstand. En als hij dan ook nog vijf minuten later is? Dan is de irritatie compleet. Ze vraagt zich af waarom ze meteen boos wordt en waarom ze 'wachttijd' niet gewoon fijn kan besteden voor zichzelf.

Rens (26) kan zich prima redden in groepsgesprekken, maar één-op-één slaat de twijfel toe. Wat moet hij zeggen? Is hij wel interessant genoeg? Wat vindt de ander? Die sociale druk zorgt ervoor dat hij vaak vlucht uit interacties en daardoor lukt het niet goed om connecties op te bouwen.

Doenja (44) heeft een eigen bedrijf met een aantal mensen vast in dienst en een groep vertrouwde zzp'ers. Ze vindt alles leuk, behalve leidinggeven. Ze vindt het lastig als mensen een beroep op haar doen en nog lastiger als ze mensen moet aanspreken op hun gedrag. Ze heeft hier zo'n last van dat ze regelmatig overweegt helemaal te stoppen met het bedrijf.

Sandra (55) weet dat winderigheid heel normaal is. Ze heeft een normale hoeveelheid windjes en de meeste ruiken ook niet. Maar ze maken wel áltijd geluid. Ze moet daardoor de hele dag door opletten dat ze er niet per ongeluk één laat gaan op werk of in de supermarkt. Als het wel gebeurt schaamt ze zich diep.

Chrisje (64) is een paar jaar geleden gescheiden van haar ex-man, na een periode van huiselijk geweld en drankmisbruik. Hoewel ze nu veilig is, blijft ze zich onrustig voelen. Ze voelt zich gefaald en schuldig omdat ze haar kinderen niet het veilige en complete gezin kon bieden dat ze verdienen en ze haar man niet heeft kunnen redden van zichzelf.

Karen (42) heeft een heel fijn leven, maar door haar hormoonhuishouding is ze een paar dagen per maand volledig uit balans. Ze raakt dusdanig in een neerwaartse spiraal dat ze het leven niet meer leuk vindt en ervan overtuigd is dat ze niets waard is.

Amber (35) wil het graag goed doen. Als moeder en als mens. Maar zodra iemand vraagtekens zet bij haar keuzes, schiet ze in de verdediging. Ze gaat uitleggen, beargumenteren en overtuigen. Daarna maalt ze nog dagen door. Waarom zit het haar zo dwars?

Monique (53) heeft geen verplichtingen meer in haar leven. Haar hele agenda is vrij. Iets waar ze altijd naar toe heeft gewerkt. Maar nu die enorme vrijheid er is en niets meer móet, merkt ze dat ze stil komt te staan. Ze weet eigenlijk niet goed wat ze zelf wil en merkt dat ze zonder andere mensen weinig onderneemt.

Pieter's (29) agenda zit altijd bomvol afspraken: vrienden, dates, sport, werk en vrijwilligerswerk. Zó vol dat hij eigenlijk constant uitgeput is. Toch is hij liever uitgeput dan alleen. Een lege avond geeft hem te veel onrust. Wat schuilt er onder dit gezelligheidsdier?

Eugenie (35) is geadopteerd en vond later haar biologische moeder terug. Ze blijkt twee halfzussen te hebben, maar die weten niet van haar bestaan. Haar moeder wil dit geheim bewaren, maar Eugenie zou ze heel graag ontmoeten. Moet ze blijven zwijgen om de familie te beschermen? Of de waarheid vertellen om haar eigen plek en verhaal te claimen?

Hoewel de moeder van Tom (27) nog leeft, voelt het voor hem alsof hij eigenlijk geen moeder heeft. Al van jongs af aan zorgt hij veel meer voor haar dan andersom, vanwege de persoonlijkheidsstoornis die ze heeft. Hij blijft hard zijn best doen in de hoop dat ze ooit een goede moeder-zoon-relatie zullen hebben. Tegelijkertijd kost het hem ook te veel om dat te blijven proberen.
