DON'T YOU SAY THAT. Emmett Watkins Jr. returns to the podcast to talk about this wacky Blaxploitation spoof that helped to launch the Wayans family empire. We had a lot to say about this one, it may be my longest episode yet! We also talk about its lesser-known sequel/spin-off (yes, really!) and another attempt at Blaxsploitation homage that did not work nearly as well, Original Gangstas.
Join Dan and Tom as they bring you UNDERCOVER BROTHER - Decoded! The 2002 movie UNDERCOVER BROTHER is a spy movie that they've been wanting to decode for a while. It is very wacky but very racially focused. Some might call it a blaxploitation spoof movie. They look at this movie, in part, against the backdrop of the recent announcements that the Ian Fleming books are being rereleased and rewritten to remove 'offensive' text. UNDERCOVER BROTHER has many racial jokes against both black and white people. There are even some words that are considered offensive to some people. So, does this movie need to be censored as Flemings books are? Take a listen and send us your thoughts on this episode, UNDERCOVER BROTHER - Decoded! at info@spymovienavigator.com. Lena und Christian diskutieren mit ihm darüber, was uns der Genre-Begriff bringt - und was nicht.
Have you ever wondered what the Fundie answer to James Bond was? What about the Fundies answer to the whole Blaxsploitation film craze? Well look no further as Sadie and Gavri'el revisit the timeless work of Jack Chick. Did we say timeless? What we meant was paranoid, nonsensical, and admittedly sourced entirely from a certifiable lunatic who claimed to personally know Charles Manson. This week, after our review last week of the turducken of terrible that was Neil Breen's "Pass Thru" , we here at The Cinema Psychos Show needed a bit of a pallet cleanser. And wouldn't you know it, we got one in the form of the Justin Armaos' new release, "Bloodsucka Jones vs. The Creeping Death." A movie that serves as not only a comedic play off of blaxsploitation cinema but also zombie movies (which has our interest already peaked as we are all based in Pittsburgh: The Zombie Capital of the World). Hey Boppers. We're back (with Tom, finally!) and we're serving up a big slice of Blaxsploitation in the form of Rudy Ray Moore's film Dolemite. Lee and Daniel finish off their look at Blaxsploitation films (be it actual, proto, or just adjacent) with Roger Corman's "The Intruder" (1962). Is this William Shatner's best performance? Is this Corman's best film? Is it one of the most underrated films on the subject of race relations in the United States? The writer of the screenplay (and his own novel of the same name, that he adapted it from), Charles Beaumont, is also briefly talked about, as well as his famous writer friends who share the screen with him in small roles in the film itself. Colin dusts off the crucifix and holy water to deal with Dracula's soul brother, Blacula (1972). African prince Mamuwalde visits Dracula's castle and is cursed with vampirism. He later awakens in 70's L.A. and uses his supernatural charm to woo the reincarnation of his long lost love while leaving a trail of bloodless bodies in his wake. Listen as we chart the intersection of the modern day vampire and the Blaxsploitation genres, talk about the birth of Black horror films, find no love for Dark Shadows, and think Thalmus Rasulala might be one of the coolest names ever, all that and more on this week's exciting episode! Continuing with our Kung Fu-bruary series (which was picked by you, the listeners!), tonight's movie is Enter the Dragon. While this movie is definitely more Westernized and almost feels more like a traditional James Bond film than it does a traditional kung fu film, it is undeniably a great action movie with one of the greatest martial artist of all time, Bruce Lee! So, join The Gargyle and The Chimerican as we discuss why we love Enter the Dragon as much as we do (spoiler alert: it might involve the fact that Bruce Lee smacks a cobra...)!! Since February is both Black History Month as well as Women in Horror Month, each episode in our Kung Fu-bruary series will start with segments honoring African Americans in cinema, as well as women in horror. For tonight's episode, we honor Blaxsploitation cinema for Black History Month. While problematic on the surface (in large part due to the use of racial stereotypes), Blaxsploitation cinema was an an outlet for many African American writers, directors, and actors/actresses to address themes of social injustice, as well as present African American characters as powerful individuals rather than just relegated to comic relief or overlooked side-characters. For Women in Horror Month, we honor all of the women who have been involved in the horror movies that we have seen in film festivals over the past few years (especially those who were able to attend the film fests as well). We list as many as we can remember, but we know that it is not an exhaustive list. We could have spent an entire month just talking about the women who have been involved in recent horror movies that we absolutely love! So, if we left you off of the list, we deeply apologize and we want you to know that most certainly have not left you out of our hearts!! Also, as we've done on the last few episodes, we continue to highlight the Chattanooga Film Festival - April 11-14. Tonight, we specifically address the programming that has been announced so far: Joe Bob Briggs, Everything is Terrible, Shock Waves Podcast, Junkfood Cinema Podcast, a screening of The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and a presentation by author Mallory O'Meara. As Eric and I both posted as soon as the announcement was made last week - the programming is like it is being tailor made for us and we cannot even begin to explain how excited we are about the Chattanooga Film Festival this year (and this is before any of the movies, other than Creature from the Black Lagoon, have been announced)!! As a reminder, the CFF fundraiser to be able to provide classes and workshops for free during the festival is still going on! Blaxsploitation has always been good about women empowerment and no other woman did it better than Pam Grier. Coffy is a movie that enjoyable because despite how fine the character was she was just as deadly and ruthless as the men which is a huge plus. Overall this is a classic movie that is definitely worth a watch.
2009 Blaxsploitation spoof "Black Dynamite" is the subject of this week's podcast. Listen to our discussion of it as well as general discussion about the comedy and horror genres.

On this episode of the Really Awful Movies Podcast, we look at the fantastic Death Force. It's by Cirio Santiago, the extremely prolific Filipino director. It's put out by Vinegar Syndrome, known for 70s Blaxploitation and horror. We had the pleasure of hanging with the VS guys at London's Shock Stock horror festival. Death Force combines Blaxsploitation and vetsploitation with the Samurai and mafia genres, successfully at times, unsuccessfully at others. Hilariously goofy fun as only a 70s film could be. We talk about the movie and our love for cheap films shot in the Philippines. We've previously looked at Firecracker and TNT Jackson.
This week, Colin takes us back to the groovy '70's with the Blaxsploitation classic Foxy Brown (1974). Foxy (Pam Grier), a "whole lot of woman" - as described by one character, goes on a revenge rampage after her undercover cop-boyfriend is gunned down by thugs from a heroin syndicate. This was Grier's follow up to her breakout role in Coffy the year prior, and was initially titled "Burn, Coffy, Burn". Hear how it all went down when Foxy Brown came to town on this week's episode. Can you dig it? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
