On today's episode of The Matthew West podcast, I'm joined by my new favorite artist, Chris Renzema. Chris is a Michigan-raised, Nashville-based, singer/songwriter who creates a niche blend of indie rock, Christian, and folk music. He defies the Christian music "norms" and operates outside of traditional pursuits of music as he composes, sings, & produces his honestly written, orchestral-sounding masterpieces. I instantly became a fan of Chris and his music and know you will too! Join us as we get honest about skepticism, learning from our past selves, and the tendency to grow callous of manna. Stream “Manna pt. 1” wherever you listen to music and listen to his 4th studio album, Manna, when it releases on March 13, 2024. Let's go to the Story House with Chris Renzema!

This week we're going to focus on the simplicity the Christian life is meant to be marked by. Jesus summed up our purpose with two statements: love God and love people. But in our humanity we have made complex what God designed to be peaceful, purposeful, and simple. A. W. Tozer remarks in The Pursuit of God, “Every age has its own characteristics. Right now we are in an age of religious complexity. The simplicity which is in Christ is rarely found among us. In its stead are programs, methods, organizations and a world of nervous activities which occupy time and attention but can never satisfy the longing of the heart. The shallowness of our inner experience, the hollowness of our worship, and that servile imitation of the world which marks our promotional methods all testify that we in this day, know God only imperfectly, and the peace of God scarcely at all. If we would find God amid all the religious externals, we must first determine to find Him, and then proceed in the way of simplicity.” May we discover the peace and joy that come from pursuing a simple Christianity this week. Our Scripture for today comes from Matthew 22:37-38, and today's worship is You're The Only One by Chris Renzema. . -- When you trust Christ as your savior and Lord, you begin a relationship that extends into eternity. However, eternity doesn't start in heaven, and you don't have to wait until then to experience a full life in Christ. The truth is that we as Christians are called to invest in our relationship with God in this life as well as in the life to come. And that means becoming more like Christ every single day. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus provided a systematic ethic for how to be his disciples. It was a relatively short sermon, but God's truth in that message has never stopped reverberating throughout the world. Our latest book, The Path to Purpose delves into the timeless wisdom of Jesus' most famous sermon, the Sermon on the Mount. St Augustine described the sermon as “a perfect standard for the Christian life.” While we may doubt ourselves from ever achieving such “a perfect standard,” Jesus' central message in his Sermon on the Mount helps us see that standard not as a burden but rather as a source of freedom, purpose, and a guide for living beautifully. One of the best ways we can be used by God is by simply being ourselves. The identity Christ has given us as daughters and sons is meant to shine forth and be a witness to those around us. May you be encouraged today in your identity in Christ and freed from any unnecessary weight you've been carrying. Our Scripture for today comes from Matthew 5:16, and today's worship is Springtime by Chris Renzema. -- Thank you so much for listening to today's devotional on living as light in the darkness. As you head out into the rest of your day, look for opportunities where you can be a light in the dark. Look for ways to encourage the discouraged, to love the unloved, to ask good questions and listen, to share your story when someone is at a low point in their own. May God use you in powerful ways today to reveal his light to those living in a moment of darkness. Make sure to rate, review, and subscribe. Have a wonderful rest of your day, and may God bless you as you seek him.
In day 2 of our series on honesty, today we're going to look at the temptation to build a façade and invite God to tear it down as we seek to live more honestly. May God show you how loved you are, just as you are. And may his love bring you freedom and life as we rest in his presence right now. Our Scripture for today comes from Matthew 23:27, and today's worship is Heart, Soul, Blood, Bone by Chris Renzema. -- Thanks for listening to today's First15 Podcast. This episode of The Walk features worship artist, songwriter, and worship leader Patrick Mayberry and his wisdom could apply to anyone leading a team in any setting. He brings a great combination of practical advice for those on worship teams, as well as some great inspiration based on 2 Corinthians 10.2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (ESV) For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…For those of us in leadership, having a grasp on the vision God has given you for your business, church, or ministry, and passing that vision along to your team can not only inspire, but it can motivate your team to pursue excellence in the practical applications of their giftings. The abilities that God has given us, when used for Kingdom purpose, destroys lies and attacks set against us in the spiritual relm that manifest in the physical realm. Use your “weapons” today, whether that be leading worship, doing taxes, or fixing cars, for God's glory and you'll see strongholds destroyed, in the mighty name of Jesus. - - - - - -Sponsor InformationWorship Leader Institutehttps://www.worshipleaderinstitute.com/coaching- - - - - -Please subscribe to our social channels for more information and great content surrounding building a lifestyle of worship. This young man is one of my new favorite artists. After witnessing a massive 90 minute sing-a-long at the famous Ryman Auditorium, I needed to know more about this ‘unicorn'. Emilee welcomes in new listeners with an introduction to her heart for the podcast, what you can expect in the Abundantly community, and unpacking what true abundant life actually means. What is abundance? What are we talking about when we say that we want you to have abundant life in Jesus' name - and what are we not talking about? We look at the world's current obsession with success and manifesting, and how life in The Way is better. "God is love" is one of the easiest to misunderstand sentences in Scripture. It's deep and it was written by the man who called himself "the disciple Jesus loved." Seth and David talk about the deep and good news that "God is love." Here's the song we kept talking about! We have four seasons but we only have one spring. I heard that recently in the lyrics of a song by Chris Renzema. It struck me that even though writing my current book is an active and engaged process, it's also “letting the ground rest” in terms of creating front-facing content. Therefore, this will be the last episode of season two and I hope to return when the new book is published in July. Enjoy Your Life! In this episode, I have a conversation with Sadee Whitfield about what it means to live a life on mission for Jesus. She gives her powerful story about how Jesus transformed her life and talks about how she lives her life differently because of that transformation. We not only discuss what it means to live on mission, but also how we can practically do this in our everyday lives. Today we continue our weeklong focus on being a child of God, by looking at how God guides us throughout our life. All of us long for, a need a guide through this life. In this journey, there are so many twists and turns, so many unknowns, so many roads we can take, we need a good, omniscient, and omnipotent guide to help us know which way to go. May you sense the leadership of your loving Father today as we create space to receive his guidance.
