Passage: 13 And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 30 Thus the Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the Lord, and they believed in the Lord and in his servant Moses. (Exodus 14:13-14, 21-22, 30-31 ESV) Song: Red Sea Road by Christa Wells, Ellie Holcomb, and Nicole Witt Lyrics: We've buried dreams Laid them deep into the earth behind us Said our goodbyes At the grave but everything reminds us God knows we ache when He asks us to go on How do we go on We will (So we'll) (And we'll) sing to our souls We won't bury our hope Where He leads us to go there's a red sea road When we can't see the way He will part the waves And we'll never walk alone down a red sea road How can we trust When you say you will deliver us From all of this pain That threatens to take over us well Well this desert's dry but the ocean may consume And we're scared to follow you Oh help us believe You are faithful you're faithful When our hearts are breaking You are faithful you're faithful Oh grant us eyes to see You are faithful you're faithful Teach us to sing You are faithful you're faithful You're faithful No we'll never walk alone down a red sea road No we'll never walk alone down a red sea road Prayer: This is another day, O Lord. I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be. If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely. If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly. If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently. And if I am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly. Make these words more than words, and give me the Spirit of Jesus. Amen. -The Book of Common Prayer

On today's show we chat with Randall Goodgame! Known for his Slugs & Bugs family music series—one of the most revered and critically lauded brands in Christian family entertainment—Randall's Scripture Hymnal is a collection of more than 100 word-for-word Bible passages set to original music. The hardbound volume releases October 21 from Rabbit Room Press. Randall conceived the Scripture Hymnal as a practical and creative tool to help make the Bible more accessible for all ages. Showcasing newly composed piano accompaniment for more than 100 Bible verses, the hymnal features songwriting contributions from Ellie Holcomb, Ginny Owens, Andrew Osenga and Dwan Hill, among many others. Today on MESSmerized I'm hanging out with the amazing Ellie Holcomb, who's fresh off a tour with none other than Lauren Daigle. Ellie gives us the scoop on life on the road—think tight spaces, late-night chats, and the wild sense of community that comes with sharing a bus. She also gives us an insider peek on her friendship with Lauren, how they ended up collaborating on a song, and their favorite moments on tour (spoiler: their song Be Okay will give you all the feels). But it's not all music and fun—Ellie opens up about the tough stuff too, like balancing the chaos of tour life with family time, and how we moms are out here carrying some heavy loads. She shares a heartfelt story about her daughter's medical journey and how she juggled being on tour while caring for her little one. Trust me, this is a conversation you don't want to miss. Ellie's new book Fighting Words (the expanded version of her devotional) and her album All of My Days talk about Ellie's journey of battling anxiety, finding hope, and the power of God's Word to lift us up when life feels impossible. Vulnerability, repentance, grace—it's all here. If you're looking for a reminder that you're not alone in the highs and lows, this episode's for you. I can't wait for you to listen! PS. If you haven't listened to my podcast with Heather MacFadyen of Don't Mom Alone, it's time! The show is called Sidetracked and we talk about family, faith, and basically anything else that comes to our minds in the moment (hence the name Sidetracked). I promise you will laugh! How do we hold onto faith in a world full of so much suffering and sorrow? Where do we find hope in the mystery of all the pain? For Recording Artist and Author Ellie Holcomb working out her faith through song has always been the way God has invited her into the hope that exists in suffering. After walking through several years of losses and devastating heartache in the lives of those she loved, Ellie began to notice the ways in which so much of the goodness and joy in her life came birthed out of the pain. It is through music that she often shares her own wrestlings and the ways in which God allows us each the opportunity to experience hope in the canyons of the most difficult times. Her latest album, All of My Days, are Psalms set to music that have given her hope in the pain and suffering of this life. In this episode, Davey and Ellie consider how we can get comfortable with the questions and doubts that arise out of our pain, where we can see God in the valleys of life and the incredible invitation to hope in the midst of it all. If you've ever struggled to understand the mystery so present in pain, this conversation will be a balm to your soul as you are reminded that God is big enough to handle every question, every doubt, and every frustration we have in our most difficult days. Folkie Americana indie hero Drew Holcomb joins us to chat about the songwriting process and which of his songs he's not a fan of! PART ONEScott and Paul debrief the experience of recently seeing the 74-year-old Bruce Springsteen perform with the energy of a teenagerPART TWOOur in-depth conversation with Drew HolcombABOUT DREW HOLCOMBMemphis native Drew Holcomb first broke through on the national scene with the 2011 album Chasing Someday, credited to his band Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors. Subsequent studio albums, such as Good Light, Medicine, Souvenir, and Dragons hit the Top 10 on Billboard's folk and indie charts and earned Holcomb and his bandmates a loyal following. The fiercely independent group is widely regarded as a live performance powerhouse, while Holcomb's original songs have found particular resonance with music supervisors who have made them staples of film and TV show synch placements. Whether working with the band, solo, or as a duo with his wife and fellow singer/songwriter, Ellie Holcomb, Drew's literate folk-based Americana represents a craftman's approach to the songwriting process. The most recent album from Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors is called Strangers No More.

Our host, Andy Peavyhouse, recalls how, since starting this podcast, it has been a constant reminder of the power hymns have played in his journey of faith. He remembers how each hymn paints another picture of his walk with Christ and how hymns can be the cornerstone of our faith journey. One hymn that paints quite a vivid picture of Christ's triumphant victory through his finished work on the cross is Thomas Kelly's "Look Ye Saints, the Sight is Glorious." It unfolds in a symphony of poetic majesty. Each verse is a brushstroke of truth, painting the ultimate victory of Christ. We'll explore the richness of this hymn, as we dive into its authorship, history, and theology. This episode is a heartfelt tribute to hymnody's ability to capture the soul's deepest cries and loftiest praises, to strike that tender chord within us that resonates with God's truth. We'll see how this hymn echoes Scripture, inviting us all to acknowledge Jesus as the Lamb who was slain and now reigns victorious. Join us, as we honor the Lenten and Easter seasons by amplifying the joyous acclamation of Christ's triumph, encouraging listeners to reclaim the hymns that have shaped our faith, and to carry their powerful messages of truth to a lost and dying world.SHOW CREDITS AND LINKS:Andrew Peterson's “Is He Worthy?” Red Mountain Church Music Red Mountain Hymn Collective "Crown Him" Taken from This Breaks My Heart of Stone: A Collection of Hymns from Red Mountain Church Download the entire Red Mountain Music catalogue of songs in one PDF Songbook (does not include hymns from Silent Night, Demos & B-sides).
