This episode is crammed with advice, suggestions and recommendations starting with - something that I haven't done in this podcast before - a load of reading recommendations. And, after all my recommendations, I then advise you... not to read them! Why? All the books in the world, all the science in the world doesn't matter - they're not going to change your life or your experience of it. You're the one from where change emanates. So you start immersing yourself in all this material after you've taken your first steps on the road to awareness, self-awareness and self-discovery.Otherwise, all your reading and study will be akin to browsing holiday websites, marvelling in the beauty and excitement of all the holiday destinations and, then, not buying a ticket and never even going outside the front door of your own little automated thinking mind. And that's where the real advice comes in - but you're going to have to go through this episode from start to finish. And, right now, in this downtime between Christmas and the New Year, you know what? You have the time - use it wisely.

We all know and love Joy to the World as a classic Christmas carol — but did you know it wasn't originally written for Christmas? And it's not in Handel's Messiah either! In this episode, I share the fascinating history behind one of our most familiar hymns, how it's connected (and not connected) to Handel, and how its message points forward to something in the future, not just back to the past.

It's so crazy that we're two years into a genocide and we're still being hammered by propagandists pretending to believe that the world has just spontaneously started hating Israel for no reason in some inexplicable explosion of Jew-hatred. Reading by Tim Foley.

Send us a textEver wonder what kills relationships before cheating even enters the picture? This episode dives into the uncomfortable truth that most partnerships don't end because someone stepped out—they die slowly through silence, avoidance, and neglect. Our raw conversation explores how the same open communication that builds relationships in the beginning mysteriously disappears once we're committed, creating fertile ground for disconnection. The episode kicks off with weekend disappointments, from Cardi B's meet-and-greet no-show to NFL heartbreaks, before shifting to nostalgic football memories. We share the strange remedies athletes use to keep their bodies functioning, from pre-game Pedialyte rituals to post-game massage techniques that helped us survive the physical demands of the sport. These shared experiences highlight how our bodies tell stories of where we've been and what we've endured. Our most candid moments come during discussions about physical preferences and relationship dynamics. We debate body preferences with surprising honesty, distinguishing between appreciating natural features versus artificial enhancements. This flows naturally into our examination of communication patterns between partners—why we freely express ourselves when dating but build walls once committed. The conversation offers listeners permission to acknowledge their authentic desires while developing healthier communication habits. What makes this episode special is how we balance light-hearted moments with deeper introspection. Whether discussing Atlanta Falcons coaching frustrations, the perfect approach to a Longhorn steak dinner date, or concerns about AI artists replacing human creativity, we maintain our signature blend of humor and vulnerability throughout.Join our community by following us on Instagram and TikTok @VillageVetsPod and subscribing wherever you get your podcasts. In today's episode, we're tackling a bold claim: record labels are obsolete. With home studios, DIY distribution, and powerful marketing tools, artists can now write, record, release, and promote their music all on their own. So… are labels officially irrelevant? Presented by LANDR [landr.com/otherrecordlabels] We break it down into three common reasons people say we don't need record labels anymore: Artists can do it all themselves. The old gatekeepers are gone. The art comes from artists, not labels. But here's the twist—just because artists can do everything doesn't mean they want to. Many crave teammates, collaborators, and communities that labels provide. And while the industry has changed, labels still offer something algorithms and DIY platforms can't: curation, creativity, and connection. Tune in as we explore why the role of labels may be shifting—not disappearing—and how indie labels can thrive in this new era of music.

Using the profound iceberg analogy, this episode explores how our deepest growth, healing, and transformation often occur in silence, unseen by others. It's a reminder that just because things look calm doesn't mean nothing is happening—and just because no one sees your effort doesn't mean it isn't sacred.Through poetic storytelling and heartfelt truths, Deep Waters honours the weight we carry, the battles we fight in private, and the beauty of the becoming that's always unfolding—underneath.

Welcome to a new installment of the FWACATA Podcast! If you've been waiting for the perfect moment to finally launch your big project, get serious about your art, or just finish that damn thing sitting in the corner of your mind — here's your Monday wake-up call:Nobody's coming to hand it to you. You've got to start. This week's episode is a no-holds-barred reminder that while the world might feel like it's tilting sideways (and hey, maybe it is), life, creativity, and hope are still worth the hustle.Sure, things get harder as you get older. You need more coffee. More naps. Maybe a little more yelling into the void. But that flame? It's still there. It just needs action to stay alive.Movement. Creation. Forward motion.Even if it's messy. Even if it's slow. Especially when it's messy and slow.We all love to plan. Sketchbooks full of notes, dreams, and “what ifs.”But without action, it's all just doodles in a notebook. You want to start a comic? Draw the first panel.Write a novel? Type the first sentence (even if it's “Interior: My Asshole.” Seriously, just get moving.)Launch a business? Google the first step and take it.Big ideas don't mean anything until you get your hands dirty. You know why all the loud, obnoxious people seem to get ahead?Because they're doing something. It might be awful. It might be evil. But they're moving. They're working the system. The good news? You can move too. You can build. You can create. You can do—without selling your soul or turning into a cartoon villain. You just have to start. We're talking about momentum, the real meaning of resilience, and why you should always plant your flag—even if it feels like you're the only one left on the field.

This week on Revenue Rehab, Brandi Starr is joined by Karthi Ratnam, a category design expert who believes that creating movements, not just products, is the key to market success—and she's ready to prove it. In this episode, they challenge the notion that category creation is prohibitively expensive and slow, arguing instead that a bold vision and leadership can redefine industries and drive exponential growth. From debunking myths to offering strategic insights, Karthi lays out her case for why revenue leaders need to rethink their approach to category design before it's too late. Do they have it right, or will you change their mind? Episode Type: Problem Solving Industry analysts, consultants, and founders take a bold stance on critical revenue challenges, offering insights you won't hear anywhere else. These episodes explore common industry challenges and potential solutions through expert insights and varied perspectives. Bullet Points of Key Topics + Chapter Markers: Topic #1: Challenging the High Cost Myth of Category Design [04:24] Karthi Ratnam challenges the belief that it's prohibitively expensive to create a new category, labeling this a myth that holds companies back. She argues that the real barrier is not financial but rather a lack of vision and willingness to take risks, comparing it to wanting to go to heaven without the willingness to take necessary steps. Brandi Starr highlights the comfort companies feel with established practices, leading to a discussion on the necessity of disrupting the status quo to lead a market. Topic #2: Building a Movement vs. Building a Brand [09:24] Karthi Ratnam differentiates between building a movement and a brand, using historical movements as analogies for category creation. She suggests that movement builders prioritize the category and problem over the brand, highlighting Apple's journey as an example. This challenges traditional marketing practices, prompting Brandi to ask how this approach applies to companies that aren't inherently personal, especially in B2B markets. Topic #3: The Role of a Charismatic Founder in Movement Building [13:39] Karthi Ratnam emphasizes that successful category creation hinges on a dynamic and charismatic founder who can rally support beyond conventional marketing. The discussion challenges the notion that any company can build a movement, with Karthi arguing that not everyone should attempt category creation. Brandi questions how this applies in larger organizations where the personality of a single leader might not be the focal point, emphasizing the balance between idealism and operational effectiveness. The Wrong Approach vs. Smarter Alternative The Wrong Approach: “So the wrong way to do it right, is to be very myopic about it, to think extremely short term in that, to assume that A, because you're creating a category, you're going to win, like really, really fast, you're going to see wins, but that exponential growth takes a little bit of time.” – Karthi Ratnam Why It Fails: This approach fails because creating a category is not about quick wins; it involves longer-term vision and effort. Companies that expect immediate results may become discouraged when they don't materialize, which can lead to abandoning the initiative prematurely. It's about more than just investment—it's about having the vision and courage to disrupt existing norms. The Smarter Alternative: Companies should recognize that while they can see wins along the way, the journey to category dominance involves gradual exponential growth. Leaders must commit to a long-term vision, focusing on truly disruptive innovation rather than just financial considerations. Embrace the risk of the unknown and be prepared to weather the challenges along the path to establishing a new category. The Most Damaging Myth The Myth: “The biggest myth is that it's super expensive to create a category, and it's really hard to have it realize potential in the short and medium term.” – Karthi Ratnam Why It's Wrong: Companies often hide behind the belief that financial constraints are their main barrier to category creation when, in fact, it is the lack of vision and willingness to take risks that truly hold them back. This myth causes organizations to remain static, instead of embracing disruptive opportunities that could redefine their market position. What Companies Should Do Instead: Focus on a strong vision and have the courage to disrupt the status quo. Companies should prioritize innovative thinking and be willing to navigate the uncertainties of creating new categories to lead movements that matter. The Rapid-Fire Round Finish this sentence: If your company is trying to create a category, the first thing you should do is _ "Have the founders start evangelizing your point of view." – Karthi Ratnam What's one red flag that signals a company has a category problem—but might not realize it yet? "Lack of alignment on the point of view." What's the most common mistake people make when trying to fix this? "Becoming emotional." What's the fastest action someone can take today to make progress? "Take the first step." Buzzword Banishment Karthi's buzzword to banish is "revenue marketer." She dislikes this term because she believes all marketing should inherently be in service of revenue, making the distinction unnecessary. Karthi argues that separating "revenue marketers" from other marketers suggests a false divide, diminishing the contributions of brand marketers who also aim to drive revenue. In a world that constantly pulls us toward immediate gratification and worldly success, we often forget a profound biblical truth: for those who love God, the best is yet to come.A Wisdom the World Doesn't UnderstandRecently, I was reflecting on Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 2:8-9:"None of the rulers of this age knew this wisdom because if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But it is written: What no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived—God has prepared these things for those who love him."This passage reveals something extraordinary about how God works. The rulers who crucified Jesus—Tiberius, Pontius Pilate, Herod Antipas, and the religious leaders—acted in complete ignorance of God's wisdom. Had they understood what their actions would ultimately accomplish, they would have stopped immediately. They had no idea that by crucifying Jesus, they were signing their own death warrant. They couldn't foresee how this seemingly small religious execution would lead to the rise of Christianity and eventually the end of the Roman Empire as followers of Christ lived as loyal citizens under Rome while giving their ultimate allegiance to God.Living Differently: The Example of DanielThis pattern of God working in ways that exceed human imagination appears throughout scripture. Consider Daniel, who served in the highest levels of government yet remained uncompromisingly devoted to God.When faced with a law forbidding prayer to anyone but the king, Daniel didn't hesitate or hide. Daniel 6:10 tells us: "When Daniel learned about the document that had been signed, he went to his house... three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God, just as he had done before."Daniel changed nothing when threatened with the lions' den. Why? Because his life was already aligned with God's purposes. He already loved God and lived differently, so when pressure came, consistency—not change—was his response. For those living in alignment with God's will, the key isn't radical change but faithful consistency. For those not living in obedience to God, significant changes may be necessary. But for Daniel, obedience meant simply continuing what he was already doing. What No Eye Has SeenThroughout his life, Daniel repeatedly experienced things he could never have imagined:* Surviving the lions' den* Sleeping to the sound of purring lions* Seeing Judaism become elevated throughout the Persian Empire because of his faithfulness* Witnessing the king decree that everyone should worship Daniel's GodThese experiences beautifully illustrate Paul's promise that "what no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human heart has conceived, God has prepared for those who love him."The Greater DanielJesus is the greater Daniel. Just as Daniel emerged from the lions' den unharmed with no broken bones, Jesus emerged from death itself without a single bone broken—fulfilling the prophecy of Psalm 34:20.What enabled Jesus to endure the cross? Hebrews 12:2 tells us it was "for the joy set before him." That joy was knowing that for His children, the best was yet to come. His love for the Father and His love for us carried Him through. From Darkness to LightWhen I was eight years old, I was exposed to inappropriate content at a friend's house. That experience began a journey into darkness I couldn't have imagined at the time. Yet, more than twenty years later, God has completely reversed that trajectory.Never would I have dreamed that God would take that broken child and transform him into someone who influences others for good. What seemed irreversible—the shame and darkness—God turned completely around. The Power of the CrossThis is why I can't stop talking about the cross. It's not just that God redeemed us there; He reversed everything sin did in our lives. The cross gives us power to let go of anything we're holding onto too tightly—those things we think define us—because we know the best is yet to come. How Does This Change Us?So I leave you with this question: How does believing the best is yet to come encourage you today?Whatever you're facing—however dark, lonely, or impossible your situation seems—if you hold onto the hope of the cross and resurrection, you can live differently. You can endure. You can overcome.Because for those who love God, the best truly is yet to come.amenpodcast.com This is a public episode. Talking points: masculinity, psychology, myth, JungHot on the heels of the legendary John Lee, I interviewed another founding elder of men's work: Michael Meade. This is a powerful discussion focused on how essential "descent" is for men, and how it's almost completely disappeared from society in favor of endless, destructive growth and commodified "mastery".
