In a world that constantly pulls us toward immediate gratification and worldly success, we often forget a profound biblical truth: for those who love God, the best is yet to come.A Wisdom the World Doesn't UnderstandRecently, I was reflecting on Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 2:8-9:"None of the rulers of this age knew this wisdom because if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But it is written: What no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived—God has prepared these things for those who love him."This passage reveals something extraordinary about how God works. The rulers who crucified Jesus—Tiberius, Pontius Pilate, Herod Antipas, and the religious leaders—acted in complete ignorance of God's wisdom. Had they understood what their actions would ultimately accomplish, they would have stopped immediately.They had no idea that by crucifying Jesus, they were signing their own death warrant. They couldn't foresee how this seemingly small religious execution would lead to the rise of Christianity and eventually the end of the Roman Empire as followers of Christ lived as loyal citizens under Rome while giving their ultimate allegiance to God.Living Differently: The Example of DanielThis pattern of God working in ways that exceed human imagination appears throughout scripture. Consider Daniel, who served in the highest levels of government yet remained uncompromisingly devoted to God.When faced with a law forbidding prayer to anyone but the king, Daniel didn't hesitate or hide. Daniel 6:10 tells us: "When Daniel learned about the document that had been signed, he went to his house... three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God, just as he had done before."Daniel changed nothing when threatened with the lions' den. Why? Because his life was already aligned with God's purposes. He already loved God and lived differently, so when pressure came, consistency—not change—was his response.For those living in alignment with God's will, the key isn't radical change but faithful consistency. For those not living in obedience to God, significant changes may be necessary. That experience began a journey into darkness I couldn't have imagined at the time. Yet, more than twenty years later, God has completely reversed that trajectory.Never would I have dreamed that God would take that broken child and transform him into someone who influences others for good. What seemed irreversible—the shame and darkness—God turned completely around.The Power of the CrossThis is why I can't stop talking about the cross. It's not just that God redeemed us there; He reversed everything sin did in our lives. It was a Portals cliffhanger: We were in midflight, in midair, final destination unseen, at the end of the last Current Openings as we journeyed into the deeper space of development and what it means for us and the universe. As Danny puts it, “holding on to anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.” The World Doesn't Revolve Around You Accountability and hard work are key. When you take responsibility and replace entitlement with effort, you'll notice positive changes in your results. It's not the world that's changing but your perception and actions. Change begins within, and as you adapt and grow, the world aligns with your progress. You're Exactly Where You're Meant to Be You are the sum of countless micro-decisions. If you're not happy with your current situation, identify and understand your patterns. Use critical thinking to break negative cycles. Remember, you are often the common denominator in your experiences, so focus on self-improvement. Never Communicate Sincerely with the Insincere Engaging with people who have no intention of resolving issues is a waste of time and energy. Recognize crazy-making behavior and avoid getting entangled in it. Sometimes, the best response is silence, preserving your energy for more constructive interactions. Needs vs. Wants Reflect on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs to understand what truly motivates you. This hierarchy emphasizes the importance of meeting basic physiological and safety needs before pursuing social, esteem, and self-actualization needs. Understanding this can help keep your entrepreneurial drive in perspective. Optimise for Peace, Not Happiness Happiness is fleeting, but peace can be sustained long-term through self-accountability, self-awareness, and strong boundaries. Cultivate relationships that add value to your life and remove those that don't. Metaphorically, without war, you cannot have peace. It's the struggles that teach you the value of tranquility. Presence Over Presents Your time and attention are the most valuable gifts you can give. Whether it's to your loved ones or team members, being present and attentive creates lasting positive impacts. People will always remember how you made them feel. Hold Down Your Own Power Strong individuals maintain their power and protect others, whereas weak individuals seek to take power from others. No, more "good rich people" are not going to save the world. Not the least because the amount of money required to create systemic change (i.e. being a billionaire) seems to make one uninterested in systemic change... I wonder why? p.s. the real answer is community organizing: power and strength in numbers! The main problem with this idea is that if you try to massively redistribute wealth, at least in the USA the government will come down hard on you. For example, I once read that the Black Panthers were much more heavily targeted by the US government after they started providing large numbers of free meals to Black children. (p.s. the link there is to a generally good source, but I can't remember the book I read the actual idea in, unfortunately)This is also NOT an admonition not to become financially stable!
