A word that is frequently used in describing The Cold Stares, and frequently missing from modern music discussions. “We're not just a blues band, or just a rock band, or anything other than who we are”, front man Chris Tapp says. There is a power and a realness that is arrived at by just doing what you do best. The Cold Stares do that.

On the charge of murder.....GUILTY! Imagine hearing those words KNOWING you had nothing to do with the crime, yet you were about to serve the next 30-50 years in prison for it. For most of us, that's not even in our wildest nightmares. For Chris Tapp, it became 100% his reality. This is one of the most amazing and awe inspiring conversations I have ever had. Chris Tapp wasn't just sent to prison and then forgotten about for the rest of his life. Thousands of people eventually came to his aid and he was freed, then EXONERATED. There are so many twists and turns to his story I can't possibly cover them all, but most importantly Chris shares with us how he felt when those horrible words were read and how he survived 20 years in prison without going insane. #Chris #Tapp #murder #Angie #Dodge #Carol #Innocent
18-year old Angie Dodge had just moved into her first apartment in 1996 when her life was suddenly and violently snuffed out. In 1998, a young man named Christopher Tapp was convicted of Angie’s murder. The prosecution’s case relied on Christopher’s confession. The defense argued that the confession was coerced and that the state was ignoring DNA evidence from an unknown suspect. Angie’s heartbroken mother, Carol Dodge, was left to wonder about the suspect still at large. After years of seeking the truth, Carol Dodge watched Christopher’s confession tapes. Appalled by the interrogations, she reached out to an expert in false confessions, who in turn contacted the Innocence Project. But it would take several more years and the work of experts in DNA genealogy to find Angie’s real killer and exonerate Christopher Tapp. The use of genealogical familial searching and its success in this and other cases has exciting implications for future criminal investigations. The public has shown approval for the technique overall; however, there are privacy concerns over the use of private genetic data to implicate a person or his/her relatives in a crime.Join us at the quiet end for The Murder of Angie Dodge. By putting together a DNA profile and identifying relatives in the suspect’s family tree, genealogist CeCe Moore and a DNA consulting firm called Parabon were able to find Angie’s killer. Carol Dodge had been crucial in the exoneration of her daughter’s convicted killer Chris Tapp, casting a bright light on the failings of our criminal justice system. If not for her determination, Chris would still be an innocent man in prison as Angie’s real killer walked free.
Two friends knock on Angie Dodge's door and find her lying on the floor. She had been raped, stabbed and her throat cut. The police arrive, take DNA samples from the scene and start rounding up suspects. Chris Tapp was 20 years old at the time and though his DNA did not match the crime scene samples, he was called in. A few questions turned into over 100 hours of interrogations and seven polygraph tests. By the end of it, Chris confesses to killing Angie – a crime he had no recollection of committing. On this episode of Bad People, presenters Julia Shaw and Sofie Hagen discuss how you might end up confessing to a crime you didn't commit. S10E11: Chris Tapp How could a layperson see all the problems with this interrogation when the police couldn’t? Laura Nirider and Steve Drizin tell us about Chris Tapp, just 20 when he endured a mind-bending, 25-hour interrogation that transformed him from an innocent man into a confessed murderer. Fortunately for Chris, he found an indomitable champion... in the victim’s mother, Carol Dodge. Carol convinced police to use a revolutionary new method of DNA identification to exonerate Chris and find her own daughter’s killer. This week we talk with Chris Tapp and Brian Mullins of The Cold Stares. They talk about their previously released albums, upcoming music, and a surprise endorsement they got on Twitter.
Chris Tapp has been exonerated of the murder of Angie Dodge, an 18-year-old woman who was killed in 1996. Tapp was jailed for 20 years in the case. But new DNA analysis pointed police to a Caldwell man who was arrested, and confessed to the murder in May 2019. However, Tapp still had the murder on his record until last week.
Eighteen-year-old Angie Dodge was raped and murdered in her Idaho Falls apartment in 1996. Chris Tapp was accused of the crime and imprisoned for 20 years before DNA evidence demonstrated he was not at the scene. His release was due in part to the work of the Idaho Innocence Project and on Thursday's Idaho Matters, we speak with Greg Hampikian from the project and Idaho Statesman reporter Cynthia Sewell about this case.
Jared Bradley’s M-Vac forensic DNA collection system is a superstar both in solving cases and in the media. Bradley joins Crime Redefined to break down recent headlines about this powerful forensic tool. From breaking news about the Angie Dodge rape/homicide cold case in which the M-Vac helped to free Chris Tapp from prison, to compelling new FBI M-Vac research data, the M-Vac has emerged as a breakthrough DNA technology. Bradley also pulls back the curtain on the M-Vac’s TV appearances on ID, History, and Discovery channels. Hosted by Dion Mitchell and Mehul Anjaria. A Zero Cliff Media production.

Eric Ray and Glenn Langenburg discuss two forensic cases that have been in the news in the past few years. First, the guys talk about the recent Golden State Killer case. How did DNA testing and genealogy combine to solve these 40 year old crimes? What databases were accessed and was it ethical to do so? Secondly, Eric and Glenn discuss how accessing profiles of Y chromosomes from online sites led Idaho Falls detectives to Michael Usry, Jr. In 1996 Angie Dodge was murdered and Chris Tapp has been in prison for decades, but things get turned upside down when new technology comes into play.
