Tommy Lee Walker: Executed in 1954, Exonerated in 2026

In 1954, Dallas executed a 19-year-old Black man named Tommy Lee Walker for the rape and murder of a young white woman near Love Field. Walker had no criminal record, eight alibi witnesses placing him across town at the time, and he recanted his confession the moment he was returned to his cell. None of it mattered. Three months after his arrest, a jury sentenced him to die in the electric chair.Seventy years later, Innocence Project attorney Chris Fabricant set out to do something that had never been done before: exonerate a man who'd already been put to death. Jed talks with Fabricant about the coerced confession, the junk-science polygraph, the racial panic that swept Dallas in 1953, and what it took to finally clear Tommy Lee Walker's name.Subscribe to our newsletter: https://jedlipinski.substack.com/ Connect with Jed Lipinski:https://www.instagram.com/gonesouthpodcast/https://www.facebook.com/groups/gonesouthpodcast/https://www.linkedin.com/in/jed-lipinski/

James Tillman remembers the smell of steak and onions cooking at his mother’s house on the day police came for him. He thought he’d be back soon. Instead, he spent a total of 18½ years incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. In 2006, with the help of the Connecticut Innocence Project, DNA evidence proved his innocence, making him the first person in Connecticut exonerated through post-conviction DNA testing. Later, DNA pointed to another man, who eventually confessed in court. James talks about refusing to plead guilty, surviving prison, holding onto faith, and learning how to live freely again. And we meet Katie Farrell, the social worker who helped him prepare for freedom before freedom was guaranteed. The release of the blockbuster biopic of Michael Jackson's life called ‘Michael' is now set to cross a billion dollars at the box office. Made with the Jackson estate's approval, it portrays the young Jackson as a kind-hearted, misunderstood genius; bullied by his father and exploited by the music industry. A very different portrayal of the King of Pop however comes out in the bombshell Netflix documentary - released this week - about his 2005 trial for child molestation. The lawyer seen in the clip was Michael Jackson's defence attorney during his infamous trial - Thomas Mesereau - who convinced the jury to find Jackson Not Guilty on all 14 counts. He didn't take part in the documentary but agreed to join Uncensored for the first interview since its release. Piers Morgan is also joined by criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos,  Jackson's crisis publicist Vincent F Amen and NewsNation's Geraldo Rivera. Learn more about your ad choices. When Y-STR DNA testing revealed that the genetic material at the yogurt shop crime scene belonged to an unknown male — excluding all four accused men and over 130 other tested individuals — it should have been the end. Instead, it was the beginning of a 17-year limbo. Travis County DA Rosemary Lehmberg dismissed the charges against Springsteen and Scott in 2009 but issued a public statement affirming her belief in their guilt. No exoneration. No declaration of innocence. Just a release with conditions and a public accusation that followed these men for nearly two decades. The human toll extended beyond the courtroom. Michael Scott's marriage dissolved during incarceration. Maurice Pierce, who entered the system at 15 and spent three years jailed without trial, was fatally shot by Austin police during a 2010 confrontation at age 34. Forrest Welborn, never indicted despite being charged, lived under the weight of the accusation for over 25 years.Part 4 examines the period between release and exoneration — a phase of wrongful conviction cases that receives insufficient attention in criminal justice analysis. The formal declaration of innocence came in February 2026. JB breaks down the information warfare surrounding the Epstein files, highlighting Alpha Warrior's warning about congressional theatrics versus real prosecutions. He argues that narrative manipulation, leaks, and DC “chair of superiority” commentators are underestimating Trump's strategy yet again. From NATO restructuring rumors to internal GOP battles, and from media mockery of Bondi to the slow-building legal reckoning facing Obama-era officials, this episode connects the dots on what JB sees as a coordinated, disciplined offensive by Team Trump. It is part political commentary, part cultural critique, and fully locked in on what JB calls “belt to ass time” in American politics.

They pivot to Alabama's border revolt, where the state vows to defend its sovereignty while DHS plays political games with illegal-immigration numbers and asylum fraud. From there, they break down the media's bizarre framing of J6, the federal government's collapsing credibility, and Kamala Harris's strange, overly theatrical public appearances. The hosts also examine Trump's mounting pressure campaigns, the manufactured panic over tariffs, and new polling exposing how thoroughly the public has rejected legacy-media narratives. When a baseball fan despised for costing the team the pennant is killed in a bar, Detectives Briscoe and Green connect the crime to Walter Grimes, a man released from prison after 20 years for a murder he didn't commit. Attorney Rodney Fallon (played by Giancarlo Esposito) argues he's innocent because his time as a wrongfully convicted man made him a murderer. McCoy and Southerlyn find the cop who originally framed him. He says the bloody knife he planted was from a different murder committed by Grimes. The prosecutors must rely on planted evidence and the dirty cop to prove the defendant was already a killer before being set up. We're talking about Law & Order season 14 episode 21 “Vendetta.” Our ten-time returning guest is Sarah D. Bunting. This episode draws inspiration from the infamous 2003 Steve Bartman foul ball incident at Wrigley Field. For exclusive content from Kevin and Rebecca, sign up on Patreon.

Erik Jensen is a multipyphenate who, along with his wife and creative partner Jessica Blank have been called “the foremost practitioners of documentary theater in the U.S.” Their genre-defining plays “The Exonerated,” “Aftermath,” “Coal Country,” and “The Line” were all critically acclaimed. As an actor, Jensen's credits include “The Walking Dead,” “Mindhunter,” “Mr. Robot,” “The Americans,” not to mention his praised portrayal of legendary NY Yankee Thurman Munson in “The Bronx is Burning.” On this episode he details his approach toward playing that beloved figure, and finding out that “almost the entire body of that character was an emotional word-gesture.” He talks about learning how much psychology is in people's words, his process of having multiple “wants” for a character so he can easily adapt to what he's given, he explains why it's a disservice to write or act for the audience, why he doesn't believe in monologues, how conducting interviews taught him how to listen and become a better actor, plus much more. Back To One is the in-depth, no-nonsense, actors-on-acting podcast from  Filmmaker Magazine. In each episode, host Peter Rinaldi invites one working actor to do a deep dive into their unique process, psychology, and approach to the craft.  Follow Back To One on Instagram

But beneath the headlines lies a hidden story: John B. Wilson, a father falsely accused of bribery, became a scapegoat in a DOJ-orchestrated media circus. Despite no evidence of bribes, Wilson faced a brutal six-year battle against the Department of Justice, USC, and Netflix's distorted narrative. Exonerated on core charges, he now reveals the scandal within the scandal—how prosecutors manipulated evidence for fame and institutions shielded their interests. Join us for a gripping tale of injustice and one man's fight for truth.   GUEST:  John B. Wilson, author of Varsity Blues: The Scandal Within the Scandal, rose from a challenging childhood marked by poverty and an abusive mother to earn degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Harvard Business School, graduating at 23 as the youngest in his class. A trailblazing business leader, he became Bain & Company's youngest partner, helped Staples join the Fortune 500, and nserved as Gap Inc.'s COO during its $50 billion peak. Falsely accused in the 2019 Varsity Blues scandal, Wilson fought a six-year legal battle, exposing DOJ misconduct and media manipulation. The Central Park 5, now known more accurately as The Exonerated 5, brought a defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump for stating during a presidential debate that the five men had "pled guilty", had "badly hurt someone" and had "killed someone", in connection with crimes that had been committed in Central Park in New York City. All three of Trump's assertion were untrue. Trump filed a motion to dismiss the defamation case, and a federal judge denied that motion to dismiss (with the exception of one of the counts, which the judge gave the plaintiffs leeway to correct and refile). The Delphi 'Missing Evidence' That Could Have Exonerated Richard Allen Could an innocent man be wasting away in prison while the real killer walks free? Richard Allen sits behind bars, sentenced to 130 years, but his confession seems more like the ramblings of a broken man than an admission of guilt. After 14 months in solitary confinement, he emerged a shadow of himself, claiming responsibility for crimes that defy logic—including one against a grandchild that doesn't even exist. So why is the prosecution clinging to this? And why were other key suspects, like Keegan Klein and Ron Logan, seemingly ignored despite damning evidence? Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott dig into the murky waters of this case, questioning whether justice has been sacrificed at the altar of ego, or if something even more sinister is at play. Is the justice system failing to seek the truth, or has it never really been about truth at all? #TrueCrime #DelphiMurders #RichardAllen #HiddenKillers #JusticeSystem #CrimePodcast #LegalCorruption Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
