Welcome, dear listeners, to a succinct recap provided by Dr. Fred, offering his unique insights, opinions, and ideas on the recent thought-provoking podcast interview with Sanal Bhanu Rajan. Key takeaways from this short recap: Sanal Bhanu Rajan designed a methodology merging spiritual wisdom with psychology he calls "spiritual logic." Our self-narratives - the stories we believe to be true - dictate how we perceive and therefore experience situations. Noticing whether these stories empower or disempower us is pivotal, as is consciously shifting limiting narratives. Thoughts and speech happen simultaneously. By listening to our words, we hear belief-shaping mental patterns. As beliefs shape perception, deliberately altering beliefs reshapes our reality over time. Locating the physical feelings sparked by thoughts allows them to transform into deep certainty through focused attention. Seeing life challenges as proof of our resilience and strength, not frailty, enables a shift to personal agency and competence. By owning victories alongside defeats, we can anchor in an empowered context and author an uplifting life story.
Self-love is the foundation of a happy, healthy life from the inside out!
In this episode I had the pleasure of speaking with Tammy Sollenberger. She is very well known in the IFS community. She has a popular podcast called "The One Inside" and also has written an incredible book with the same name. She has been trained in IFS, and is an IFS therapist and consultant. It was a wonderful oppotunity to sit inside some of Tammy's positive self energy as we spoke about all things IFS. I hope you enjoy!

Episode 89 What's the difference between controlling our emotions and regulating them? We often try to control our emotions in order to “be loving” but by doing so we actually make it harder for us to make authentic connections. In this episode I share my experience on the difference between controlling my emotions and learning to regulate by attuning to them and the impact this has on my ability to be a safer space for myself and others. This episode is part of a series taken from my 30 Day Instagram Live Challenge where I went on live video to speak about different aspects of the interior journey every day for 30 days straight. Most people have one or two core self-care needs that, if they're met, everything else feels easier. This episode is about how to figure out yours... and what to look out for when you hear people preaching about their own! There's also acknowledgment that your neurodivergent body and brain may process things in different ways, so the following questions may not be that useful for you.Figuring out your core self-care need or needs (just a jumping-off point!): Thinking back to times in your life when things felt the easiest, what was your life like? Which of your needs were being met fairly well? When life has been a bit easier or better, did you notice any particular ups and downs based on particular needs being met? For example, if you were overall feeling pretty good compared to your baseline, was there anything that particularly threw you off? Or something that could bring you back to that feeling better pretty quickly?Tuning into your body right now, is there anything your body is asking for? This won't necessarily be a core need, it's more a check-in to see what messages your body is already good at giving you.Thinking about the past few days, weeks, or months, are there any messages your body has been consistently giving you? For example, when you've felt tired, does it feel more like you need sleep, or more like you need food, or more like you need to be around another person to recharge? Again, this isn't a perfect metric, just noticing how your body talks to you.Is there any form of self-care that feels like it REALLY fixes a bad day?Resources mentioned: Takedown of Why We Sleep: https://guzey.com/books/why-we-sleep/Commentary on the above post: https://statmodeling.stat.columbia.edu/2019/11/18/is-matthew-walkers-why-we-sleep-riddled-with-scientific-and-factual-errors/Transcript DocAnd one more link someone sent taking down the book Why We Sleep (I haven't listened to this episode but the links alone look great): https://open.spotify.com/episode/4r0Vawq8xAfnsnKbYVUNhc?si=n7t-koeuS2GXQ2QnA8j4dQ Hosted on Acast. You are not your thinking brain. There may be times when you think you're lazy, selfish, disappointing, or a failure. Maybe there are times you think you'll never find love or you'll never stop feeling like an imposter. But, sweet friend, these things are just thoughts. And, you are not your thinking brain. In this episode, I teach you a simple mnemonic to help you separate your core self from your thinking brain. When you practice this and start noticing the thoughts your brain offers you, you can then shift and start thinking, feeling and doing things that are actually aligned with your core self (instead of your thinking brain). Separating yourself from your negative thoughts, helps you start to create the results you want in your life now. Links: Connect with me on: IG and FB. I am not a naturally organized, put-together person, nor am I a naturally happy person; in fact, I've been called Eeyore before. And yet, I live a joyous life and create some amazing things in the world. How? I depend on tools: I do Mastering Overwhelm because I get overwhelmed, and I do Only 10s because I have ADHD. I go through my routines and habits and practices every morning. In this episode, I discuss how you can have a happy, joyful life by doing what I do. I describe the habits and routines that shape my day and life. I also highlight how reading can shape your perspective for a happier life and share some of the books that have impacted me. “The reason I have the life that I have and the joy that I have is because I do what I do. If you want what I have, you need to do what I do—and you have to do it for you.” - Mark J. Which led him to be serial entrepreneur life. But Mike got burned out doing General contracting and decided to do things on his own. Went to do House hacking and which led him to meet a very successful real estate agent, who became his mentor. Which led him to sell 78 houses in the first 9 months. He also built a big multi-family investing business.Making a big accounting mistake without letting investors know, due to over-leveraging his properties know got him trouble, due to the market going down rapidly during the 2009 downturn. And he learned many big lessons about paying attention to people around him and that he should have listened to people around him and their advice, i.e. people close to him.Getting a mentor when he was in jail, who told him not to let anyone steal his accomplishments, got him to work out both physically, mentally, and spiritually. Have you ever said or thought that you could be great if only a certain part of you would let you? Maybe a phrase like, “I don't know why I keep letting this partner back in my life? I'm never going to find love.” or “I could be healthy, but I can't seem to stop eating the wrong things.” Usually these thoughts are pretty normal and can begin a dialogue about restoring one's power and sense of self. But when we are addressing larger dysfunctions like eating disorders, addiction, phobias etc.. the exchange between your favored self and the part of you that you have identified as your hated self are at odds and prevents health. That is why Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is such a powerful tool. It is a process that allows us to address every part of ourselves with respect, because we recognize that our inner parts contain valuable qualities and our “Core Self” knows how to heal, allowing us to become integrated and whole. Listen, we can't possibly act in love for others if we don't know how to love and honor our full selves. Our guest today Madeleine Warren is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), specializing in the area of trauma recovery. She completed her graduate studies and counseling internship at Northwestern University's Family Institute, and worked for ten years in Community Mental Health as an outpatient therapist, while maintaining a private practice. She will share how IFS therapy is a powerful tool that can be used to help us to heal ourselves, prevent causing long term harm to our loved ones and live a life filled with more joy. Tune in, you don't want to miss this one. Special Guest: Madeleine Warren, LCPC, LMFT.
