May and Tim Hindmarsh sit down with Australian chef, author, and wellness advocate Pete Evans for a conversation that goes far beyond recipes and nutrition trends. Dr. Sina McCullough, author of “Hands Off My Food! How to Defend Your Food, Health, and Freedom,” argues that bureaucrats, multinational biotech corporations, and regulatory loopholes have helped adulterate the U.S. food supply. McCullough describes nearly dying from rheumatoid arthritis after years of worsening symptoms despite a “clean” organic, paleo-style diet, then recovering through functional testing that revealed 15 nutrient deficiencies, food sensitivities, and arsenic poisoning; she says she healed without pharmaceuticals. She explains that nutrition training often ignores food adulterants and claims the FDA facilitates markets rather than ensures safety, highlighting the GRAS loophole, voluntary notification, lack of long-term and cumulative testing, and industry influence via the revolving door. Examples include trans fats, glyphosate formulation issues, gene-edited crops, and recombinant bovine growth hormone approvals and labeling. What happens when SEO stops working, rebuilding after a major traffic drop, and navigating AI and the future of blogging with Carrie Forrest from Clean Eating Kitchen. ----- Welcome to episode 564 of The Food Blogger Pro Podcast! This week on the podcast, Bjork interviews Carrie Forrest from Clean Eating Kitchen. Reinventing a Food Blog After an 80% Traffic Drop Carrie Forrest has been blogging since 2009 and has experienced the full range of highs and lows that come with building an online business. When Bjork first interviewed her in 2018, she was already growing Clean Eating Kitchen with simple, healthy recipes and a strong foundation in SEO and keyword research. Between 2022 and 2024, that strategy paid off in a big way — Carrie grew her site from a few hundred thousand monthly pageviews to nearly one million. But with the rollout of AI Overviews, many of the keyword-driven and how-to posts she relied on were hit hard, leading to an 80% traffic drop almost overnight. In this episode, Carrie shares how she's navigating this rebuild season — from leaning into her email list and YouTube to focusing on what AI can't replicate: human connection, empathy, and transformation. It's an honest conversation about the shifting landscape for online creators and what reinvention can look like after years of success. Three episode takeaways: Why it can be difficult to diversify when one strategy is working extremely well — We talk all the time about the importance of diversifying your revenue and traffic streams, but that can be hard to do in reality! Carrie talks about why she struggled to listen to that advice and how hard it is to focus energy on diversifying when your current strategy is doing so well. How Carrie is approaching a rebuild season after an 80% drop in traffic — Bjork and Carrie discuss the ebbs and flows of running an online business, how Carrie recovers from big traffic dips, and how a beginner mindset is helping her feel more creative than ever before. Why focusing on human connection, creativity, and audience relationships matters more than ever — Carrie shares her current outlook for her blog and explains why she is leaning into her humanity and connection with her audience instead of information and transaction. Andy Hnilo's appearance on The Ash Said It Show was a masterclass in resilience and the power of uncompromising quality. Reflecting on the life-altering accident that crushed his jaw and scarred his face, Andy revealed that the non-negotiable backbone of his entire line is a mineral-rich blend of four specific clays, with Bentonite being the absolute "miracle" foundation. During his recovery, he turned his kitchen into a lab, discovering that these clays acted like a "magnetic meal" for the skin, pulling out impurities while infusing it with life-saving minerals. This discovery wasn't just a part of his healing; it became the proprietary core of his flagship Clay Mask, a formula he refused to dilute even when faced with the daunting reality of traditional retail margins. Andy shared that the hardest business decision he ever made was choosing to fund his own growth and keep ingredient concentrations at "artisan-grade" levels rather than taking the easier path of using fillers to please big-box distributors. By prioritizing product integrity over a quick profit, he ensured that every bottle of Alitura contains the same potency that healed his own skin on his journey back to the runway. For those feeling lost in the noise of the beauty industry, Andy advocated for a lifestyle that extends far beyond the bathroom mirror, focusing on three essential pillars that don't cost a dime. First, he emphasizes the power of direct sunlight, recommending 10 to 15 minutes of daily exposure to help the body convert cholesterol into vital hormones and naturally treat skin disorders. Second, he champions a "clean internal environment" by switching to an all-organic, whole-food diet, noting that thin-skinned fruits and factory-farmed meats often carry a toxic load that manifests as skin inflammation. Finally, he stresses the importance of eliminating environmental toxins by using a high-quality shower filter, protecting the skin from absorbing the chlorine and heavy metals found in tap water. As the industry leans into AI and high-tech personalization, Andy remains grounded in the belief that "Naturals" will always be the future because the human body is biologically designed to recognize and absorb ingredients from the earth. He views tech as a tool to help people find the right plants, but he maintains that the most sophisticated "technology" is the raw, nutrient-dense power of nature itself—a philosophy that keeps Alitura timeless in a rapidly evolving world. "Eating clean" may sound healthy and righteous... but is this language leading to more guilt and shame, harming our relationship with food? In Acts 10, Peter has a vision where God tells him, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” While this passage carries powerful implications about inclusion and the Gospel, it also dismantles something many of us still cling to today: labeling food as morally good or bad. In this episode, we're unpacking the subtle danger of “clean eating” language — and how it may be harming your relationship with food more than helping it. Discover how to elevate your family's nutrition this season with expert insights from Shasity Ireland on The Ash Said It Show. This episode explores the best healthy springtime snacks, high-protein swaps, and artisanal food pairings featuring Southern Recipe Small Batch and Bakehouse Bread Company to help you celebrate National Nutrition Month with flavor and function. Spring is the ultimate season for a pantry refresh, moving away from processed "junk food" toward nutrient-dense, high-protein alternatives that satisfy the whole family. One of the most significant shifts in the snacking world is the gourmet evolution of the pork rind. Brands like Southern Recipe Small Batch are dismantling the traditional snack stigma by offering macro-friendly options in sophisticated flavor profiles such as Pineapple Ancho Chile and Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper. These aren't just for snacking straight from the bag; they serve as a versatile "secret ingredient," acting as a crunchy, low-carb breading for Southern favorites or a high-protein topping for savory dishes. For those tracking macros or seeking clean-label snacks, these small-batch rinds offer a satisfying crunch without the nutritional compromise. When paired with the artisanal craftsmanship of Bakehouse Bread Company, you can create the ultimate balanced brunch board. Every NYC foodie knows that a "hero" loaf or signature pastry from a dedicated bakehouse is the gold standard for quality. To style the perfect springtime spread, pair these artisanal crusts with local seasonal ingredients like whipped goat cheese, fresh berries, or local honey to balance hearty textures with light, spring flavors. In honor of National Nutrition Month, focusing on high-protein swaps is an effective way to improve daily wellness. Replace standard salad croutons with crushed pork rinds for added protein and less gluten, or swap traditional sugary spreads on your Bakehouse toast for nutrient-dense almond or cashew butter. Celebrating nutrition means making mindful choices—like "eating the rainbow" with vibrant spring produce and choosing artisanal, small-batch brands that prioritize quality ingredients over fillers. By integrating these healthy swaps for the whole family, you can enjoy gourmet flavors while supporting a high-protein, active lifestyle throughout the spring and beyond.

Action is where change happens. But here's the thing: when we have a goal, a wish, a desire bubbling up in us, it can feel really huge. Sometimes we stop ourselves in our tracks based on how huge our desire feels. Change needs action, but it doesn't need huge action. When we focus on the next step, the next Doable Change that we can integrate into our lives, we don't get stuck and we create momentum. Choose one Doable Change that resonates with you today and really play with it. Fit it into your life, your days, make it work for you — then move on to your next Doable Change. Here are Three Doable Changes from this conversation: CHOOSE SELF-CARE. Self-care and compassion make such a difference, but sometimes we back off from them because we don't want to disappoint others. Think about the last time somebody modeled self-care and how you reacted. Try an act of self-care yourself.WHO ARE YOU NOW? Where are you getting stuck in old stories? Who are you now? I was once really dogmatic about food. It served me well at the time, but now, not so much. Are the decisions you would have made a decade ago that feel different now? Slow down and look at the boundaries and decisions in your life now. Are you working from an old story?CHECK OUT SKINNY60. Send us a textWhat if your obsession with "healthy eating" is actually making you less healthy? In this episode of The Strong(HER) Way podcast, fitness and nutrition coach Alisha Carlson tackles the uncomfortable truth about orthorexia: the eating disorder disguised as wellness that's silently taking over the lives of high-achieving moms everywhere. This isn't about demonizing clean eating or telling you to give up your health goals. It's about learning the difference between healthy intentionality and harmful rigidity (and understanding how perfectionism around food can sabotage both your mental health AND your actual results).Alisha breaks down the science behind why high-achieving, perfectionist women are especially vulnerable to orthorexic patterns, what it actually looks like in everyday mom life, and most importantly, how to pursue your body composition goals in a way that's sustainable, flexible, and free from obsession. If you've ever felt anxious about eating "off plan," guilt-ridden after enjoying birthday cake, or isolated because of your food rules, this episode is your permission slip to do things differently. What You'll Learn:What orthorexia actually is (and what it's NOT—having goals isn't disordered)Why perfectionist, high-achieving moms are especially prone to orthorexic patternsThe key signs that your "healthy eating" has crossed into disordered territoryHow to tell the difference between healthy structure and rigid food rulesThe science behind why restriction and food anxiety actually sabotage fat lossHow to pursue body composition goals WITHOUT obsession, anxiety, or rigid rulesWhy your relationship with food is affecting your kids more than you thinkA practical roadmap for building flexible structure around nutritionHow to have both food freedom AND make progress toward your health goalsPerfect For:High-achieving moms who meal prep and eat "clean" but feel anxious about foodWomen who have body composition goals but suspect their relationship with food isn't healthyPerfectionist moms who struggle with all-or-nothing thinking around nutritionAnyone who's ever felt guilty, stressed, or isolated because of their food choicesMoms who want sustainable fat loss and muscle building without sacrificing their mental healthKey Takeaways✅ Orthorexia is not just about weight, it's about purity and control. It's an obsessive fixation on "clean" eating that can damage your physical health, mental health, and relationships.✅ Having body composition goals is NOT the same as having an eating disorder/ disordered eating. The difference is in the how, the why, and the cost—not whether you care about what you eat.✅ Perfectionist moms are especially vulnerable. Research shows that socially prescribed perfectionism aka the pressure to excel at everything is one of the strongest predictors of orthorexic behavior.✅ Rigid food rules actually sabotage your results. Chronic food anxiety elevates cortisol, restriction leads to metabolic adaptation, and the all-or-nothing cycle keeps you stuck in yo-yo patterns.✅ You don't have to choose between food freedom and fat loss. Flexible structure—intention without obsession—leads to better long-term results than rigid rules ever will.✅ Your kids are watching and learning from your relationship with food. Healing orthorexic patterns isn't just about you—it's about breaking a generational cycle.✅ Self-compassion isn't soft, it's strategic. Research shows self-compassion leads to MORE consistent behavior change than self-criticism, especially for perfectionist

Have you ever started a clean eating plan that felt amazing at first, only to watch it completely unravel when life got stressful?   For a lot of women, clean eating works… until it doesn't. And when it stops working, it usually has less to do with food than you think. In this episode, I break apart something that comes up constantly with clients and gets oversimplified in the nutrition world: the pattern of clean eating that starts out feeling stabilizing, then slowly becomes something fragile that takes a lot more effort to maintain.   Tune in this week to learn how to recognize the clean eating cycle that keeps so many women stuck. You'll hear why food rules feel comforting when life is messy (and why that's a problem), and what sustainable eating actually looks like. If you've ever felt like clean eating started out supportive but ended up holding you down, this episode will help you understand why and what to do about it.   Get full show notes, transcript, and more information here: https://carriehollandmd.com/188   Follow me on Facebook and Instagram: https://www.facebook.com/carriehollandmd https://www.instagram.com/carriehollandmd/

Tess Masters returns to Small Changes, Big Shifts for a powerful, heart-centered conversation on redefining health, nourishment, and self-trust as we step into a new year. As the creator of Skinny 60, Tess shares why sustainable wellness isn't about restriction or perfection, but about personalization, grace, and learning how to work with your body instead of against it. Together, the discussion explores strategic eating through different life phases, the gut as the foundation of whole-person health, and the emotional patterns tied to food choices. With an emphasis on community, compassion, and the "good, better, or best" mindset, this episode reminds listeners that health is a puzzle—not a problem—and that small, intentional choices can unlock confidence, vitality, and lasting change at any age.  Key Takeaways:   Sustainable wellness comes from personalization and strategy, not restrictive or one-size-fits-all approaches.  Gut health is foundational, influencing metabolism, hormones, mood, energy, and overall well-being.  Progress is built through grace and flexibility, choosing good, better, or best instead of perfection.  Food can become a powerful tool for self-awareness, helping reveal emotional patterns and habits.  Community, compassion, and shared stories create accountability, healing, and long-term success.  About Tess Masters:  Tess Masters is an actor, presenter, coach, podcaster, and author of The Blender Girl, The Blender Girl Smoothies, and The Perfect Blend published by Penguin Random House.
