Are you hitting your protein targets, training 5 days a week, and avoiding gluten, dairy, and sugar yet you’re still dealing with crippling bloating and unpredictable digestion? If you’ve spent more time worrying about your food than enjoying it, this episode is a major "pattern interrupt." Today, we’re discussing an uncomfortable truth: for many active women, gut issues aren’t happening despite a healthy lifestyle they’re happening because of how restrictive that lifestyle has become. We’re unpacking the "Healthy Girl" identity trap and how food anxiety is fueling your IBS, not fixing it. In this episode, we dive into: The "Healthy Girl" Identity Trap: How the shift from caring about your body to obsessive label reading and social isolation creates a state of chronic "food fear." The Physiology of Food Anxiety: Why eating a "perfect" meal in a stressed, sympathetic state (fight or flight) guaranteed drops in stomach acid and enzyme output. Under-Eating & Over-Training: How low fuel and high cortisol send your body into conservation mode, leading to constipation, reflux, and poor motility. The Restriction-Binge-Bloat Cycle: Why your gut isn’t "broken" when you eat off-plan; it’s simply reacting to the extremes of famine and punishment. Redefining Health: Why real recovery for the active woman often requires eating more, training smarter, and letting go of perfection to let the nervous system feel safe. Sometimes the most "functional medicine" thing you can do isn't another supplement or a stricter diet it’s healing your relationship with food. Your gut isn't asking for more rules; it's asking for nourishment and safety. P.S. If you’re an active woman who is done micromanaging every bite but is still bloated, let’s find out what is actually driving your symptoms. You're already focused on clean eating and workouts — so if your results feel slower than they should, there may be one overlooked piece that can enhance everything you're doing. In this episode, we talk about reducing your toxic load, especially inside your home, and why it's no longer optional for true wellness. Because wellness isn't just what you eat and how you move — it's also what your body is exposed to every day, and that can influence your hormones, brain health, energy, and long-term well-being. (Also, if you're listening mid-workout… yes, this is your gentle reminder to take a sip of water. I use a timer. No shame.)

Body composition is ultimately the thing you are pursuing if you are working on your body…even if you don't know it yet.Body comp > weight scale numberOne is the bigger picture. The other doesn't even touch on the bigger picture. In this episode, I explain why body composition should always take precendence over simply looking at a number on the weight scale and running away with only that as a gauge of progress.DISCLAIMER: The information in this video is for guidance only and is not individualized advice for you! If you made a New Year's resolution to eat better, feel better, or take better care of yourself—and you've already slipped—you're not alone. In fact, January 9th has earned the nickname “Quitter's Day,” when many people quietly give up on the goals they set just days earlier. But what if the problem isn't discipline—what if it's trying to change everything at once? My guest today believes better health doesn't require perfection, privilege, or a PhD in nutrition. It starts with intention, access, and small daily habits that add up over time. Leslie Zinn is the founder and CEO of Arden's Garden, a second-generation, woman-owned Atlanta company started more than 30 years ago by her late mother, Arden Zinn. What began with a single juicer has grown into 19 brick-and-mortar locations—many in food deserts—and a growing national footprint. Leslie is passionate about clean eating, functional nutrition, and reminding us that food is more than fuel—it's information for the body. And she says one of the simplest tools for reclaiming our health might already be sitting on our kitchen counter.
The Strong[HER] Way | non diet approach, mindset coaching, lifestyle advice
Send us a textWhat if your obsession with "healthy eating" is actually making you less healthy? In this episode of The Strong(HER) Way podcast, fitness and nutrition coach Alisha Carlson tackles the uncomfortable truth about orthorexia: the eating disorder disguised as wellness that's silently taking over the lives of high-achieving moms everywhere. This isn't about demonizing clean eating or telling you to give up your health goals. It's about learning the difference between healthy intentionality and harmful rigidity (and understanding how perfectionism around food can sabotage both your mental health AND your actual results).Alisha breaks down the science behind why high-achieving, perfectionist women are especially vulnerable to orthorexic patterns, what it actually looks like in everyday mom life, and most importantly, how to pursue your body composition goals in a way that's sustainable, flexible, and free from obsession. If you've ever felt anxious about eating "off plan," guilt-ridden after enjoying birthday cake, or isolated because of your food rules, this episode is your permission slip to do things differently. What You'll Learn:What orthorexia actually is (and what it's NOT—having goals isn't disordered)Why perfectionist, high-achieving moms are especially prone to orthorexic patternsThe key signs that your "healthy eating" has crossed into disordered territoryHow to tell the difference between healthy structure and rigid food rulesThe science behind why restriction and food anxiety actually sabotage fat lossHow to pursue body composition goals WITHOUT obsession, anxiety, or rigid rulesWhy your relationship with food is affecting your kids more than you thinkA practical roadmap for building flexible structure around nutritionHow to have both food freedom AND make progress toward your health goalsPerfect For:High-achieving moms who meal prep and eat "clean" but feel anxious about foodWomen who have body composition goals but suspect their relationship with food isn't healthyPerfectionist moms who struggle with all-or-nothing thinking around nutritionAnyone who's ever felt guilty, stressed, or isolated because of their food choicesMoms who want sustainable fat loss and muscle building without sacrificing their mental healthKey Takeaways✅ Orthorexia is not just about weight, it's about purity and control. It's an obsessive fixation on "clean" eating that can damage your physical health, mental health, and relationships.✅ Having body composition goals is NOT the same as having an eating disorder/ disordered eating. The difference is in the how, the why, and the cost—not whether you care about what you eat.✅ Perfectionist moms are especially vulnerable. Research shows that socially prescribed perfectionism aka the pressure to excel at everything is one of the strongest predictors of orthorexic behavior.✅ Rigid food rules actually sabotage your results. Chronic food anxiety elevates cortisol, restriction leads to metabolic adaptation, and the all-or-nothing cycle keeps you stuck in yo-yo patterns.✅ You don't have to choose between food freedom and fat loss. Flexible structure—intention without obsession—leads to better long-term results than rigid rules ever will.✅ Your kids are watching and learning from your relationship with food. Healing orthorexic patterns isn't just about you—it's about breaking a generational cycle.✅ Self-compassion isn't soft, it's strategic. Research shows self-compassion leads to MORE consistent behavior change than self-criticism, especially for perfectionist

Have you ever started a clean eating plan that felt amazing at first, only to watch it completely unravel when life got stressful? For a lot of women, clean eating works… until it doesn't. And when it stops working, it usually has less to do with food than you think. In this episode, I break apart something that comes up constantly with clients and gets oversimplified in the nutrition world: the pattern of clean eating that starts out feeling stabilizing, then slowly becomes something fragile that takes a lot more effort to maintain. Tune in this week to learn how to recognize the clean eating cycle that keeps so many women stuck. You'll hear why food rules feel comforting when life is messy (and why that's a problem), and what sustainable eating actually looks like. If you've ever felt like clean eating started out supportive but ended up holding you down, this episode will help you understand why and what to do about it. The pursuit of perfectionism. You are either familiar with it as someone who has felt it or seen others do it. Regardless, the fact of the matter is that striving for perfectionist behaviour in the nutrition space can be a double edged sword.Too many dieters think that you need to be perfect to be successful and that the only way to reach a fat loss or muscle building or performance goal…is to be perfect with their eating. Not so true and time for some hard truths. In this episode, I explain why the pursuit of perfectionism is unnecessary and could actually be one of the reasons you are being held back and not achieving the progress you want.DISCLAIMER: The information in this video is for guidance only and is not individualized advice for you! Es gibt unzählige Ernährungsformen. Low Carb, Keto, vegan, High Protein, mediterran. Genau hier setzen Ernährungsinterventionen an. HEALTH NERDS. Mensch, einfach erklärt. What is “Clean Eating”? Navigating a Controversial Nutrition Trend – Food Insight Clean Eating | The Nutrition Source | Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health Title: Is “eating clean” just another diet
Tess Masters returns to Small Changes, Big Shifts for a powerful, heart-centered conversation on redefining health, nourishment, and self-trust as we step into a new year. As the creator of Skinny 60, Tess shares why sustainable wellness isn't about restriction or perfection, but about personalization, grace, and learning how to work with your body instead of against it. Together, the discussion explores strategic eating through different life phases, the gut as the foundation of whole-person health, and the emotional patterns tied to food choices. With an emphasis on community, compassion, and the "good, better, or best" mindset, this episode reminds listeners that health is a puzzle—not a problem—and that small, intentional choices can unlock confidence, vitality, and lasting change at any age. Key Takeaways: Sustainable wellness comes from personalization and strategy, not restrictive or one-size-fits-all approaches. Gut health is foundational, influencing metabolism, hormones, mood, energy, and overall well-being. Progress is built through grace and flexibility, choosing good, better, or best instead of perfection. Food can become a powerful tool for self-awareness, helping reveal emotional patterns and habits. Community, compassion, and shared stories create accountability, healing, and long-term success. Do You Have A Hormone Imbalance? Take my FREE Hormone Symptom Profile Assessment: https://bit.ly/takemyhormonequiz Eighty to ninety percent of the women I talk to tell me they're “eating clean.” The problem? They're following the same “healthy” diet that worked for their 30-year-old metabolism…and hormones. According to a 2022 study in the Journal of Midlife Health, nearly seven in ten women in perimenopause who report “eating clean” still show elevated inflammation markers—one of the biggest drivers of sluggish metabolism and stubborn weight gain. In today's episode, I'm peeling back the curtain on five so-called “healthy” foods that might be secretly slowing down your metabolism…and why the very foods you thought were helping you lose weight might actually be keeping the scale stuck. In this episode, I‘ll address your most commonly asked questions, including ✅ What foods slow down metabolism in perimenopause? ✅ Is soy good for your hormones in midlife? ✅ Which is better for your blood sugar: pure cane sugar or agave? ✅ How does inflammation contribute to weight gain in perimenopause? ✅ Can eating more whole grains help me lose weight after 40? ✅ What are some sneaky sources of sugar hiding in a “clean” diet? ✅ Why can't I lose weight even though I'm eating healthy? If you've ever wondered why your “healthy” diet seems to be working against you, this episode will show you what's really keeping your metabolism stuck. — “WHAT I WISH I KNEW AT 40” SERIES 100 | Perimenopause Weight Gain? What happens when a personal trainer realizes that loading someone under a barbell without asking about their sleep, relationships, and emotional state is like trying to run software on a broken operating system? In this compelling conversation, Aleks Rybchinskiy shares his transformation from conventional personal trainer to Check Institute practitioner - one of fewer than 100 people to complete the full program. After a near-death experience at age 3, Aleks developed an insatiable curiosity about the deeper mechanics of human health that goes far beyond exercise and nutrition.Through fascinating case studies, he demonstrates how mysterious chronic pain often stems from unresolved emotional conflicts, how a client's complete colon removal led to breakthroughs in holistic healing, and why measuring pelvic angles might matter more than counting reps. His approach integrates movement, breathing, food, emotions, and relationships into a comprehensive system for addressing the root causes that conventional approaches miss. The conversation takes an unexpected turn into entrepreneurship as Aleks explains how his quest for clean, nutrient-dense snacks led to creating Bursky - meat sticks made from grass-fed, grass-finished beef, heart, and liver without the industrial additives hiding behind vague labels like "spices." From learning that citric acid comes from black mold to fighting manufacturers who insisted on shortcuts, his journey illuminates why getting real food to market is so challenging. This isn't just another health podcast - it's a masterclass in seeing the human body as an integrated system where physical symptoms often point to deeper imbalances in how we think, feel, and relate to others.BIG IDEAWhen people are moving, they're also having somatic experiences where their emotions are stuck in muscles, and the moment someone realizes they need to break up with a toxic partner, their back pain can disappear instantly.Instagram: health.performance.engineerWebsite: EatBerski.comBodhi Building InstituteSend Dr. Ovadia a Text Message.
