Eric Konovalov and I had a great conversation with Scott Schilling. He brought up the phrase Hell On Earth and those words caught my attention like a big hook.Think about this: Hell On Earth is meeting the person you COULD HAVE become.Imagine meeting you as a different you. The one you could be.I don't want to think about that but I need to think about it. The sand is running out slowly, every second another grain. I have to be my best. What about you?If you don't know Scott, he is a Giver. In a world dominated by grabby headlines, it's important to present something that will grab a reader's attention and draw them into the content of the article that headline leads. A podcast title works the same way. In order to grab a potential listener's attention, a podcast title should serve the purpose of generating interest, creating intrigue, and leading the person who finds it to take the next step and click the play button. If a title falls flat, a listener may scroll right passed that episode, and hours of work that COULD HAVE been beneficial to that person is lost because their interest wasn't piqued on the front end.In Episode 94, I share five secrets that will help you create more engaging, more captivating titles for your podcast episodes. Using more dynamic titles will help your podcast stand out while up against other shows jockeying for a listener's attention. Likely these solutions may come from your direct boss who has a certain way of doing things.Identify the Gap- The gap is roughly the difference between the intended objective and the status quo. Essentially this is the opportunity cost your organization must use when comparing this against other problems in the organization. Identify the Trap- For each of the implied solutions imagine how you might build the product or service as directed and still not solve the intended objective.Explore Alternatives- Are there other solutions that avoid traps or gaps to address a problem that have not been previously evaluated?Execute an Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to remove biasAHP is a structured process that helps remove politics or bias from decision-making.  It relies on creating relative weights among decision criteria, and possibly decomposing those into sub-criteria resulting in a weighted formula for all inputs.  Those become the equation that is used to evaluate alternatives; each alternative is scored on its sub-criteria then summed up by relative weight, resulting in a relative scoring based on numeric analysis.  For example, selecting a new product might involve evaluating three major criteria:  cost, functionality, and maintenance.  These are ranked pairwise on a relative scale of 1x-9x.  For this example, cost is twice as important as maintenance; functionality is twice as important as maintenance; cost is equally important to functionality.  From that comes a 40% - 40% - 20% ranking (all must sum to 100%).  Next, sub-criteria may be identified and weighted, e.g., initial cost is 1/3 the importance of ongoing cost.  Thus, the 40% global weighting for cost would consist of local weighting of 1 part initial cost [25%] to 3 parts ongoing cost [75%] (1:3 ratio).  So, initial cost becomes 25% of the 40% of total cost = 10% of overall decision, and ongoing cost becomes 75% of the 40% of total cost = 30% of overall decision.  This may be repeated for other criteria at as many levels deep as desired, resulting in an overall weighting of input criteria based on simple pairwise comparisons.  Each candidate choice is now be scored for each criterion on a selected scale (e.g., Option A scores 4 of 10 for initial cost, Option B scores 8 of 10 for initial cost), and the weighted products are summed for a final score.     References for Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP):Everyman's linkShorter explanation link (pitches productized version)Online calculator linkExpensive eBookNot-so-expensive reference

Minimising Risk:Summary Description:Garvin is Risk Averse to the extreme, wanting statistics and assurances before he opens the door to strangers or tries new things. Empathy is in short supply and only earned through trust and even then with prior notice of any future ailments that may require his intervention and or assistance.George on the other hand has empathy in over abundance, after all he has a direct line to the universal flow and the higher deities within and is pretty sure that everything will be all right on the night and just work itself out, although he still prefers to peep through the letter box from behind his front door whenever he hears a knock in the middle of the night. You can be damn sure Criminals, Chancers and Neighbours in dire need will have a total different experience depending on which joker answers the door to them.If you are having a heart attack and in need of medical assistance you better have your Passport and supporting paperwork with you and in triplicate if Garvin is to answer the door to you.George might make you a cup of tea and give you a cup cake through the letterbox before he calls for the ambulance. On second thoughts, did you see the price of calling for an ambulance, so be clear if you call to Georges, he is the Ambulance and a waiver will need to be signed if you want a ride in it.George is impatient at the best of times but 20 minutes wait time for an ambulance gives him the perfect excuse to get his Halloween costume out early, in the blink of an eye he is in full paramedic regalia and has his Neeh Naah Flashing Red and Blue Light on the roof of his Toyota Yaris. Before you know it, he has the Neighbour now Patient "Compos Mentus" or not bundled into the back and en route at high speed to the local AE hospital. Luckily he hadn't found the cork screw for the house red before the knock at the door, so no potential drink driving points off his licence this time.At the AE he pulls in onto the footpath in front of a Police Car to their incredulous surprise. He waves at them as he bundled the half conscious patient out of his car and into causality, "Its Ok! Its Ok! I am Sober! and this Man is not a Criminal!..Oh! And he has signed the Waiver".Garvin on hearing this story starts to worry retrospectively on Georges behalf and goes straight to his "Could Have, Would Have, Should Have" Routine. "Are you mad? You could have been mugged! I would have waited longer to let them in and waited on the ambulance, You Should have waited on the Ambulance you took on the Responsibility and the Risk of being Sued". George tells Garvin to give his Chatter Box a clip around the side of the head, it has gone all "Negative" again, even after all his training and coaching.Garvin blames the Insurance Culture on his Change of Empathy over the years. Garvin reminds George of the Film "Hitch Hiker", This is Garvin's excuse for not picking up any of his neighbours while en route to the Big City. He Actually has a Glove Box full of brown envelops with a single 5 Euro Notes in each attached to a small printed note saying "Here is your Bus Fare, I can't pick you up, I have a Hitch Hiker Phobia since watching the Film of the same name". His Neighbours always try to stick their "Thumb Out" when they see Garvin pull out of his Drive. If Garvin didn't know any better they seem to be actually queuing up now. His Neighbours can be heard saying down the town, sure where else would you get a car heading off at speed with an Open Passenger Window that Dispenses 5 Euro Notes at the sole cost of sticking your thumb out quick enough. To Garvin's consternation and bewilderment, he now spends most Monday mornings licking brown envelops and stuffing fivers into them along with his phobia notes. He is now considering whether it makes more financial sense to hire a bus to the city to drive behind him and pick up anyone who wants to go when he is going as it may well be cheaper in the long run. This Town is becoming more and more like the Wild West. The Jesse James Gang and Billy the Kids are on every street corner now with COVID 19. In a Rural Town, you could be Shot or at the very least Ostracised if you sneeze or cough within 200 yards of anyone, If you have hay fever or allergies, for God's sake stay at home and get someone else to go to the shops for you.Garvin feels he may need more training on how to put on and take off his mask, What's the Problem? as he blows his nose in it after unscrunching it out of his pocket and then putting it on his face. He is perplexed as to why everybody keeps looking at him strangely, "I am Compliant!", he keeps on shouting at anyone that will stay around him long enough to listen. He decides to invest in a Full Head Clear Visor so his Neighbours can see more clearly that it is him and that they don't need to worry. His Allergies Act Up and he Sneezes and sprays the inside of the visor as he bangs the outside with his rolled-up cloth mask that he is now trying to use as a handkerchief. He decides it will be easier to just shop online. The minimum requirement now to work is your "Insurance Certificate" and "A Mask". They now go hand in hand well as long as you don't cross contaminate them. Training is very important and of course Compliance, but in particular don't borrow Georges Camera if he puts it down, Don't Shop in Supermarket Aisle's if there's no wind, Don't Hitch Hike in Rural Towns in Ireland, the best you can expect is your bus fare thrown at you at speed from a passing car. Don't Sneeze or Cough in Rural Town or you could be hung, drawn and quartered albeit by locals being Compliant in Full Hazmat at a Social Distance.

Gab & Jam Episode Ep 118 Coronavirus Canceled Our Trip; Now What? Video Description As you may already know, our major trip for this year is to Austin, Texas, for the South By Southwest 2020 conference. Needless to say, we were taken aback, since just a week ago, South By Southwest had said that they wouldn’t cancel. Here we were, in the middle of packing and there was no conference to go to. The Coronavirus caused the city of Austin to declare a state of emergency and the conference could not go on. As you might imagine, we have plenty to consider, as we are decide what to do next. We decided upon the following strategies that helped us change our perspective when major plans change suddenly. 4 Tips for Dealing with a Change in Plans: 1. Don’t over-exaggerate its meaning. (God wants what’s best for you and your creative empire. There WILL be other opportunities to showcase your ideas.) 2. Find quality alternatives. (In our case, we thought about going to other synch and/or music conferences, but we’re afraid that travel to it and/or the conferences themselves would be similarly affected. However, we have decided to take a creative and productive stay-cation, where we can refresh blog posts, landing pages, and clean out and organize our creative spaces.) 3. Start planning for next year. (Hell, yeah, we’re planning to attend next year! And the way it stands, there is a possibility that our tickets will be deferred for next year, if they honor their word. So, we’ll start early to get the hotel that we REALLY wanted for a better price than we were going to this year. 4. Keep moving toward your goals. (We’re not going to let this be our crowning moment; the fact that we DIDN’T get to South By Southwest and reminiscing over what COULD HAVE happened. Instead, we are focused on finding other activities we can do to network, partner up, and pitch our songs. We know that this is just a blip on the screen and that there will be more, more, more meetups, conventions and opportunities, if we keep moving in the right direction.) Has the Coronavirus affected your journey to building your creative empire? If so, we’d love to hear your thinking. Please share it in the comments below. In this week's episode, we talk through quite a few things, but there is a clear theme that runs throughout the entire episode: the app gap. Chrome OS as an ecosystem is slowly overcoming these missing pieces in the form of a proper video editor in Adobe Premiere Rush and through an upcoming ability to run containered, legacy Windows apps with the help of Droplet Computing. Those two things are worth a ton of discussion as they remove the barrier of entry for many users and make the adoption of Chromebooks a much easier transition for those people who "just need that one app." In addition, we discuss the importance of the Pixel 3a as not just an affordable phone in Google's Pixel lineup, but as a possible harbinger of a future where Google sees the importance of high-quality, low cost hardware for Chromebooks from the #madebyGoogle brand as well. While discussing hardware, we also cover the latest smart device, the Lenovo Smart Clock which we have in the office for review. NOTABLE LINKS: Droplet Computing Is Back! A touch of creativity and the help of a good writer COULD HAVE produced a noteworthy sequel to one of the greatest car movies of all time, Smokey and the Bandit. Instead, everybody failed. Our hero Hal Needham failed to produce anything more than a week retread of the previous movie, our stars (with the exception of Jerry Reed) failed to show much interest in their own performances, and Pontiac failed by producing the most anemic, gawdy, Trans Am with 1980 Turbo Trans Am. Smokey and the Bandit II might have made a few kids happy. It might have made its money-grabbing producer happy, and it might have made Hal Needham happy on payday, but it sent what could have been a bankable franchise into a downward spiral it would never recover from. Jerry Reed tries his best to make this movie great - and it's not without its moments - indeed, a stunt man performs a record-setting jump that's mostly buried in the climactic game of chicken at the end of the movie - but it's not enough.  This movie, like Burt Reynolds' flagging career and the malaise-era, underpowered turbo Trans Am, is just plain terrible.  Don't watch this movie.
