Welcome to this very special episode recorded live at the buzzing Birmingham Artisan Market in the stunning Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Some days just hit different. Sunshine bleeding through the trees, beats drifting from the bandstand. Streetfood filling the air with the smell of fire, fat, and spice. We're at Artisan Market, inside the Botanical Gardens — a place that felt like it shouldn't exist, but somehow does.Makers, hustlers, food slingers. Stories behind every stall, every dish. We showed up with mics, not to interview, but to listen. To talk. To eat. To try, in our own scrappy way, to bottle a little of the chaos and charm that made the day unforgettable. This is Birmingham, on a good day. Raw, loud, beautiful. The next Artisan market at Botanical Gardens is Saturday, 2nd August. I want you to close your eyes and imagine with me: Imagine Realis Itself, the Radiant Planet at the heart of the Thousand Moons, that orb which lights the cosmos entire. Above it, the betrayer star, the Corpse Sun, red and sick and pulsing ill, small and fainter by the day. Below it, hungry and roiling, the Great Void, an abyss of voracious clouds. And in between, those thousand moons, countless except you know their number. Varied eternally, yet all dwarfed by the azure orb around which they glide. And there, bring them to mind too: Four colorful moons, spinning and buzzing and twirling around each other. Do you remember their names? The names of the Tetraspherica? The Speckled Quartet, the Marbled Quartenion? Those spinning, glorious jewels—unique even among all thousand of the moons of Realis? Let me tell remind you: Placid Ulled. World of farms, of cultivation, of soil—and of what lies beneath it. The Crux. A vast colosseum world where victory, glory, and power have been rendered equivalent. Prismatic Principia: Home to the Endless Academy, whose halls house famed philosophers, eager alchemists, mages, and—it seems—the occasional ghost as well. And Hypnotic Dokine, where mists mystify, clouds corrode, and the light always reveals a new truth. For as Long as Long had been, these four vibrant moons have swung with dancer's rhythm around one another. Long before the great Powers spread their influence across the orbital sphere, long before the founders of Sphenic Polytechnic revived the Orphan Vessels, LONG BEFORE THE MOONFOLK UNDERSTOOD THEY WERE THE MOONFOLK, those who lived on the worlds of the Tetraspherica knew each other as neighbors, traveling through orbital shuttle, exchanging supplies and stories, marrying and moving and making lives together. “True as the tetrad,” the saying goes. A stable waltz. Four marbles in alignment. Eternal. Reliable. Unshakeable. But today… in the shadow of an Ulledd mountain, in the keep of the Citadel Bein, where negotiators bicker and showmen entertain and lords gather for a feast, a treacherous conspiracy unfolds… Hosted by Austin Walker (@austinwalker on bluesky) Featuring Ali Acampora, Keith J Carberry and Art Martinez-Tebbel Produced by Ali Acampora Music by Jack de Quidt (available on bandcamp) Cover Art by by Oddesque With thanks to Amelia Renee, Arthur B., Bill Kaszubski, Cassie Jones, Clark, DB, Daniel Laloggia, Diana Crowley, Edwin Adelsberger, Emrys, Greg Cobb, Ian O'Dea, Ian Urbina, Irina A., Jack Shirai, Jake Strang, Katie Diekhaus, Ken George, Konisforce, Kristina Harris Esq, L Tantivy, Lawson Coleman, Mark Conner, Mike & Ruby, Muna A, Nat Knight, Nich Maragos, Olive Perry, Quinn Pollock, Robert Lasica, Shawn Drape, Shawn Hall, Summer Rose, TeganEden, Thomas Whitney, Voi, chocoube, deepFlaw, fen, & weakmint, This episode was made with support from listeners like you! A o to víc mě to zajímalo.“ Subkultura reggae a ska tehdy bujela. A kde v sobě rozlítaní muzikanti, z nichž každý už má dávno svoje zájmy a povinnosti, vzali energii a vůli? Všichni to brali totálně vážně,“ popisuje tehdejší přípravy.

Both Darren and Joe sleep in and arrive late to record the podcast, leading them to discussions about Joe's childlike, yet very self aware, dreams of skateboarding and togging out for Man United. Darren's extra hour of sleep unfortunately does little to get rid of his headache, and while it may just be a 'nocebo' effect from years of feeling a bit sick, it could be a sign of some previously undiscovered psychic abilities. And there's a deep dive into one doctor's attempt at establishing a 'Premonitions Bureau' to predict and prevent disasters.

Graham and his wife Susan -- a writer, researcher, and adjunct professor at The New School -- have been open about Graham's past struggle with drugs, his ten-year journey to coming clean, which began with nine months of incarceration because of a misdemeanor drug possession conviction. They've published and exhibited the self-portraits Graham took during his years of addiction, written a dual memoir called Chancers, and given many talks about the trajectory that upended Graham's photography career, isolated him from family and friends, and eventually landed him in jail. (I'll add links to the images that appeared in the Guardian and New York Mag coverage in the show notes, the book, and their talks in the show notes. ) Lately, they've shifted their focus to highlighting what it takes to recover from addiction -- a process millions of Americans have been through but is far less discussed both in private and in public settings. They're part of a growing movement of people trying to reframe the narrative more toward solutions and opening a dialogue about ways to help more people succeed with recovery. Graham and Susan recap their journey. We cover why Graham documented his addiction and why he and Susan are now documenting recovery stories across the US. We discuss why many people can't publicly acknowledge their past because of stigma, the consequences of admitting illegal drug use, and why they are part of a growing movement working to provide examples of success and hope to those still struggling with addiction. Their latest exhibit Beyond Addiction, Reframing Recovery demonstrates that recovery is possible and highlights some of the ways people have rebuilt their lives. We discuss the enduring stigma and cultural projection of drug addiction, the enduring War of Drugs, the racial injustice of drug policies, the need for reform, and we discuss decriminalization and legalization. Graham and Susan provide an enlightening perspective on the ongoing challenges, the Pandemic's impact, and Graham talks about how he has navigated his recovery. If you know someone struggling with recovery or a family member trying to support a loved one, please share this important episode or some of the resources in the show notes. I hope you are inspired by the courage, clarity, and candor of Graham MacIndoe and Susan Stellin. Minimising Risk:Summary Description:Garvin is Risk Averse to the extreme, wanting statistics and assurances before he opens the door to strangers or tries new things. Empathy is in short supply and only earned through trust and even then with prior notice of any future ailments that may require his intervention and or assistance.George on the other hand has empathy in over abundance, after all he has a direct line to the universal flow and the higher deities within and is pretty sure that everything will be all right on the night and just work itself out, although he still prefers to peep through the letter box from behind his front door whenever he hears a knock in the middle of the night. You can be damn sure Criminals, Chancers and Neighbours in dire need will have a total different experience depending on which joker answers the door to them.If you are having a heart attack and in need of medical assistance you better have your Passport and supporting paperwork with you and in triplicate if Garvin is to answer the door to you.George might make you a cup of tea and give you a cup cake through the letterbox before he calls for the ambulance. On second thoughts, did you see the price of calling for an ambulance, so be clear if you call to Georges, he is the Ambulance and a waiver will need to be signed if you want a ride in it.George is impatient at the best of times but 20 minutes wait time for an ambulance gives him the perfect excuse to get his Halloween costume out early, in the blink of an eye he is in full paramedic regalia and has his Neeh Naah Flashing Red and Blue Light on the roof of his Toyota Yaris. Before you know it, he has the Neighbour now Patient "Compos Mentus" or not bundled into the back and en route at high speed to the local AE hospital. Luckily he hadn't found the cork screw for the house red before the knock at the door, so no potential drink driving points off his licence this time.At the AE he pulls in onto the footpath in front of a Police Car to their incredulous surprise. He waves at them as he bundled the half conscious patient out of his car and into causality, "Its Ok! Its Ok! I am Sober! and this Man is not a Criminal!..Oh! And he has signed the Waiver".Garvin on hearing this story starts to worry retrospectively on Georges behalf and goes straight to his "Could Have, Would Have, Should Have" Routine. "Are you mad? You could have been mugged! I would have waited longer to let them in and waited on the ambulance, You Should have waited on the Ambulance you took on the Responsibility and the Risk of being Sued". George tells Garvin to give his Chatter Box a clip around the side of the head, it has gone all "Negative" again, even after all his training and coaching.Garvin blames the Insurance Culture on his Change of Empathy over the years. Garvin reminds George of the Film "Hitch Hiker", This is Garvin's excuse for not picking up any of his neighbours while en route to the Big City. He Actually has a Glove Box full of brown envelops with a single 5 Euro Notes in each attached to a small printed note saying "Here is your Bus Fare, I can't pick you up, I have a Hitch Hiker Phobia since watching the Film of the same name". His Neighbours always try to stick their "Thumb Out" when they see Garvin pull out of his Drive. If Garvin didn't know any better they seem to be actually queuing up now. His Neighbours can be heard saying down the town, sure where else would you get a car heading off at speed with an Open Passenger Window that Dispenses 5 Euro Notes at the sole cost of sticking your thumb out quick enough. To Garvin's consternation and bewilderment, he now spends most Monday mornings licking brown envelops and stuffing fivers into them along with his phobia notes. He is now considering whether it makes more financial sense to hire a bus to the city to drive behind him and pick up anyone who wants to go when he is going as it may well be cheaper in the long run. This Town is becoming more and more like the Wild West. The Jesse James Gang and Billy the Kids are on every street corner now with COVID 19. In a Rural Town, you could be Shot or at the very least Ostracised if you sneeze or cough within 200 yards of anyone, If you have hay fever or allergies, for God's sake stay at home and get someone else to go to the shops for you.Garvin feels he may need more training on how to put on and take off his mask, What's the Problem? as he blows his nose in it after unscrunching it out of his pocket and then putting it on his face. He is perplexed as to why everybody keeps looking at him strangely, "I am Compliant!", he keeps on shouting at anyone that will stay around him long enough to listen. He decides to invest in a Full Head Clear Visor so his Neighbours can see more clearly that it is him and that they don't need to worry. His Allergies Act Up and he Sneezes and sprays the inside of the visor as he bangs the outside with his rolled-up cloth mask that he is now trying to use as a handkerchief. He decides it will be easier to just shop online. The minimum requirement now to work is your "Insurance Certificate" and "A Mask". They now go hand in hand well as long as you don't cross contaminate them. Training is very important and of course Compliance, but in particular don't borrow Georges Camera if he puts it down, Don't Shop in Supermarket Aisle's if there's no wind, Don't Hitch Hike in Rural Towns in Ireland, the best you can expect is your bus fare thrown at you at speed from a passing car. Don't Sneeze or Cough in Rural Town or you could be hung, drawn and quartered albeit by locals being Compliant in Full Hazmat at a Social Distance.

In this episode, our final of the season, we are joined by photographer Graham MacIndoe and writer Susan Stellin to discuss their new memoir Chancers, which tells the story of their relationship over the course of Graham's heroin addiction, arrest and imprisonment at Riker's Island and Immigration Detention, and eventual release and road to recovery. In the second half of the show, we discuss a few brilliant photobooks as well Graham's early days as an aspiring photographer in New York in the 90s. We are thrilled to have this episode as the season finale. I've known Graham for a few years now and ended up reading the book in about three days. It's a great story that covers some very relevant contemporary issues in an innovative way. Graham and Susan are two of the most thoughtful, intelligent people I've met in New York, so it was a great to have this conversation with them.
