Coroner Talk™ | Death Investigation Training | Police and Law Enforcement

Crime scene photography, also called forensic photography, has been around almost as long as the camera itself. Investigators quickly realized that such technology could freeze time -- creating a supposedly incontestable record of a crime scene, a piece of evidence or even a body.  Today, forensic photographs are essential for investigating and prosecuting a crime.  Photographs help preserve not only the most fleeting evidence -- like the shape of a blood stain that will soon be mopped up -- but also the placement of items in a room and the relation of evidence to other objects. Such images can prove vital to investigators long after the crime scene is gone. Crime scene photographers must be methodical in their work. They can't afford to leave out an important piece of evidence or produce photographs that could be considered misleading in court.  There are three classifications of forensic photos -- overviews, mid-range and close-ups. If the crime took place inside, overviews include photos of the outside of the building, its entrances and exits as well as images that place the building in relation to its surroundings. Photos of spectators at the scene can later help locate witnesses or suspects. Overviews also include images of all rooms, taken from overhead and from each corner. The photographer then hones in on key pieces of evidence and captures images of them in the context. These mid-range photos might picture a piece of evidence, like a knife, but at enough distance to show its relation to furniture, a blood stain, or the rest of the room. Mid-range images establish the distance of the object from surrounding objects. Finally, the photographer thoroughly documents evidence with close-up images. Close-ups include identifying marks like scars on a body or serial numbers on a bloodied piece of electronic equipment. A photographer often includes a ruler in the shot to establish scale but always takes a duplicate image without the measuring device. In court, the defense could claim the device covered something important. Of course, pictures are of no value unless they're in context. The photographer keeps a photo log that includes every relevant detail, the photo number, any filters applied, the time and date, the location, and a description of the object.

Coroner Talk™ | Death Investigation Training | Police and Law Enforcement

In this growing attack on law enforcement by the far left and the mass media is it any wonder that police officers are suffering more mental health issues than ever before.  Since the Michael Brown incident of 2014 in Ferguson Missouri, and the systematic destruction and division of the public trust toward police by then-President Obama and his staff, there has been a steady and growing attack on law enforcement by mass media. Truth is not necessary to the media companies when their goal is to destroy and divide a nation.  The best place to start is race-baiting and making the very men and women who protect society the enemy.   Combine the two along with a strong bend toward a socialist society and they have all the tools they need to start the fire. Law enforcement and other related role are suffering attacks both physical and mental at a rate never seen before. This buildup of hate and threats as well as actual harm is causing many officers to quit or at least back off from the front lines knowing they are not supported in their job duties.  It’s not long before this weighs heavy on the minds and health of a person. In the episode Anita Brooks and Darren Dake at length about this issue and how the media is adding to if not orchestrating this attack on law enforcement.  This show contains strong opinions back by facts.

Tamara Jean Holcknecht was known as “Mousey” by her friends and family, all who adored the funny, sweet, and talented young woman. Mousey went missing in late February of 2007, and though everyone thought she'd simply gone off the radar, which wasn't uncommon for her, their worst fears would be realized a month later when two boys found her body facedown and partially submerged in a stock pond. Though the medical investigator ruled the death an accident, there is at least one major piece of forensic evidence that something major is wrong…and that evidence is indisputable. It's not the only red flag, either. The “accidental” case remains open to this day, suggesting they know that there is indeed more to the story. You can join the Facebook group, Justice For Tamara J. Tending Your Dreams

More than just complaining when he saw areas of frustration in the emergency services field, Darren Dake did something about it. His dream is to educate and encourage those who serve and protect, those who help and heal. Darren is a dream-tender, a tend-talker, and a dream-doer, and he lives by two principles.  Find out where it’s raining and lay down a tarp. Take all of your passions and giftings, and develop them into something that helps others—this often reveals a motivating business or other life-long endeavor. As a long term dream-tender, Darren understands that what you set your mind to will determine what you choose, which in turn, will alter your reality. He learned a long time ago to be careful about what he sets his sights on.  As he shares what his eighteen-year-old self dreamed about and tried, we see how his quest ultimately led him to discover his true interests. He didn’t allow disappointment to take root, but instead, learned lessons from setbacks and failures, and allowed his talents to guide him to his true calling.   Darren works with departments and agencies of all sizes, training and speaking often to large groups and conferences. But he has a special heart for the over 21,000 police departments with only ten officers or less, EMT’s and paramedics with tiny budgets, the volunteer firefighters, 911 operators in cramped quarters, and the coroner’s office operating with only one or two people. He helps leaders and their teams, no matter how large or small, determine what their strengths are, and educates them on how to further develop them to do a more effective job.   As Darren Dake well knows, none of us gets to do what we like or are the best at, all of the time, but sacrifices are necessary, in order to tend your dreams. We can learn disciplines and methods, from doing what challenges us, that propel us even further toward where we ultimately want to go. Other people can also help us move faster and more efficiently.   We all need influencers, encouragers, and inspirers to guide us toward our dreams. There will always be people who are two steps ahead of you, who can answer questions, show you the way, and lead you even further than you could go alone. But conversely, there will always be people two steps behind, who you can teach, reach, and show. Pouring into others makes your dreams worth tending.    Filling Needs: Are you so narrowed in on how you think your dream should look, that you’re missing deeper layers or inflections or details you are drawn to, that might allow you to fill a niche? Who have you sought out who can teach you more about tending your dreams?  Who are you mentoring and supporting? Remember the two-step rule: there are people ahead of you who can help, and people coming behind that you can encourage.    This episode’s Dream Planting Tips: Look for a lack and listen for complaints—what can YOU do something about?  When you feel frustrated by what others overlook, you may be the one called to enact a change or give voice to the issue. Who are the people you can relate to naturally, without much effort? This may be evidence pointing to your dream-tending destiny.  What can you help empower and heal? Is this kind of difference a dream you can pursue? Be open to a dream off-shoot or branch, as you follow your passion. Life can surprise you and reveal opportunities you never imagined, so don’t narrowly define your own options.  Don’t lose yourself as you navigate expectations, emotions, and necessary demands in order to tend your dreams. Unify your efforts with others who share your passions. Engage with people who feel strongly about similar or same dreams.  Monitor your motives daily: Am I considering other people’s needs and how they feel? Are my drives and ambitions other’s focused, or are they solely about me? Remember, if you don’t chase your dream, no one’s going to give it to you! Regardless of when you are listening to this podcast, it’s a great time to make a fresh start. But I’m not talking resolutions. Did you know a single word could change your life? In this episode, I talk with Darren Dake, a dream-tender who’s making it happen in his world of emergency services and law enforcement training. The founder and host of CoronerTalk™ podcast, Death Investigator Magazine, and the Death Investigation Training Academy, he’s also a national speaker and author in his own right. Darren understands that some of the most powerful ways to support your dreams come from the simple—though they are not always easy. Darren starts this show off by saying, “Resolutions are for losers.” He’s not trying to offend, but bluntly stated, he’s sharing a statistical fact—90% of resolutions are not followed through with. They represent hope more than reality. A simple One Word focus however, guides every decision you make. It’s a funnel you live life through. In the beauty of its simplicity, a One Word provides clarity.   Some of Darren’s One Words have been: structure, growth, and no. Over the years, each of these areas of focus have helped him build his business and tend his dreams. But as Anita has discovered, not every One Word means exactly what you imagine when it first comes to mind. When Shine came to her, she didn’t realize it meant she would need to concentrate on shining a positive light in spite of some very difficult circumstances. The next year, Rise was the word she felt she was supposed to keep in mind. Anita assumed this meant she would rise past the adversities of the previous year, not yet understanding that she would need to rise above even more challenges. But in each of these cases, Anita’s One Word provided a boost of fortitude and determination, helping her remain clearer and calmer, as she navigated the unexpected. The deeper definition of our words often provides greater inspiration and motivation. One Words help us move past the distractions of life and to get back our momentum after an interruption we didn’t count on.  Anita believes practicing a One Word focus has helped her make her dreams come true—and Darren Dake says the same is true for him.    Filling Needs: Are you scattering your energy in multiple areas, weakening your effectiveness? Do you practice a One Word focus? If so, what is yours this year?  Are you ensuring your focus is balanced between personal and professional endeavors, so you not only achieve, but have people to celebrate with? Ponder, think, and pray to discover what the best One Word is for you. A sharper focus can increase productivity, profitability, and raise rates of achievement for anyone pursuing a dream of any kind.    This episode’s Dream Planting Tips:  Search your soul—is there a lack, or something missing, that you need to fill? What One Word can help you restore and renovate your life? Is there something you need to reduce or get rid of, to free up time, energy, finances, money, resources, and mental capacity? Filtering your decisions through a singular scope that will reduce stress can change your life. What’s held you back until this point? What One Word would challenge and motivate you to action? If focusing on a One Word for an entire year feels overwhelming, start with a monthly choice. Try a 30 day concentration and see how it changes your perspective as well as your practical decisions.  A One Word focus will carry you toward making the desires of your heart a reality over a mere hope.  Be open to the deeper meanings and layers of your word as you move closer to making your dreams come true and maintaining them once you do.  How can your word inspire others in their dream tending efforts? When we invest in others, our own interest is compounded.  Don’t keep doing the same things over and over while expecting different results. If resolutions are not working for you, consider a simpler and more powerful strategy.  To find out more about Darren Dake, find him on social media and check out his website, darrendake.com, coronertalk.com, or ditacademy.org.  Grab the Tending Your Dreams’ free giveaways and discounts from every episode. Darren Dake knows what it’s like to step boldly into your dreams. But boldness does not equal foolishness. In this fast-paced interview, Dake shares the practical tips that helped him transition from desire to doing. However, be warned . . . Darren’s dream differs from what others might be drawn to, and some of the startling examples he shares could be hard to hear. As a coroner, former law enforcement officer, and host of the podcast, Coroner Talk™, Darren Dake’s norm is anything but normal from what most of us experience. He may sound matter-of-fact, but what he does leaves a lasting, internal impact. Darren’s job is extremely important and the success principles he shares are the same for any dreamer. Darren recognized a need, and began putting one action step in front of the other, until he ultimately created his own path. He shared the following insights on the show: “To find your purpose and fulfill your dreams: #1 Follow your passion. #2 Find out where it’s raining and lay down a tarp.” Dake added, “If you do those two things, you will succeed.” As you pursue your dreams consider these questions: What are the needs people have that you might help with? Do you find yourself frustrated or disappointed that a problem isn’t being solved, a service isn’t offered, or a need isn’t being fulfilled? Instead of complaining, are you the one who should be doing something about it? Is someone else meeting a need you see, but not doing it in the way you think it should be done? Can you standardize or improve a current process or project? Can you give voice to something that will create productivity, profit, or peace? Is there an elephant in the room that needs to be addressed? This episode’s Dream Planting Tips: Dare to risk. A dream grower needs an entrepreneurial spirit—but does not make foolish choices. Be willing to sacrifice temporarily, so you can have what you want ultimately. When you don’t owe any money, you hold a lot of decision-making power.  Put a solid financial plan in place, and use it as your roadmap to success. Approach debt from a prevention and reduction strategy. Start paying debt down as much as you can, as fast as you can—and don’t take on new debt. Set goals. Write them down. Put a date stamp on them. Save more money and be more conscientious with spending when you’re younger. But don’t beat yourself up for mistakes—transform them into learning lessons. You’re the product of the things you listen to, the books you read, the environment you hang out in, and the people you spend time with. Screen what you allow into your mind and sphere of influence to ensure you fill yourself with those things and people that will help you achieve your dreams. Listen to successful people and disregard the opinions of those whose own lives are a wreck, but want to tell you how to live yours. Patreon currently is one of the most popular crowdfunding platforms. For me, they take about 5%. With some creators, it can get closer to 10%. You can set different levels of supporting you with each level having their own reward. Here are some tips on creating rewards: Make sure they benefit the patron - not you Be careful with physical items as podcasting is a global audience Make sure you still deliver value, and that that fulfillment won't damage your original product Some things to consider are you might offer engagement where you do private webinars for members only.  Some people offer to spotlight their "Fan of the week/month" Insights into the creative process, so notes, sketches, demos. There is a reason lyrics on napkins are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So you want rewards that benefit the audience, but don't lead you to burn out. If I Can Get 50% Of My Audience I Will be Rich You have 500 downloads an episode and you think that you can get 250 of them to donate $10 a month that would be $2500 a month or $30,000 a year. The bad news is you may get 3% if you're luck7 and the average contribution is $3 so you have 15 patrons for a total of $45 a month. I say this not to dash your dreams, but more so you don't quit your day job without knowing the facts. Tom Boruta runs a website called Graphtreon where he tracks how much people make no Patreon. According to a post on theoutline.com "Boruta’s numbers are based on the roughly 80 percent of creators who publicly share what they earn. Of those creators, only 1,393 — 2 percent — make the equivalent of the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, or $1,160 a month, in October 2017. That same article (Titled No One Makes a Living On Patreon) stated "In 2016, Patreon boasted that 7,960 users were now making over $100 a month, which struck me as such an insignificant monthly income to brag about. Around the same time, the company reportedly had 25,000 creators, meaning only 31 percent of Patreon’s users were making over a hundred bucks." Last month I made $254 on Patreon. They took $11.19 and left me with $230.11. I work about 20 hours per month on that show which means I make $11.50 which is higher than the current National Minimum wage of $7.25 That is before taxes. If I set aside 30% for taxes, that makes my "take home" 161.77. Using that number I make $8.05/hour.  In 2016 there was a private Patrecon where 40 Patreon creators attended. At that event, founder Jack Conte stated, "the Importance of making great stuff." https://youtu.be/zBSOLTlRPoE In this video, Jack points out how he spent a ton of time on creating a video that cost $10,000 and it made him $200. This is what inspired him to start Patreon.  Dig Deeper I see where the Deep Fat Fried Podcast just started their Patreon in January of 2018 and already have 500 patrons. If you dig deeper you also see they have 24,000 YouTube Subscribers. Crowd Sourcing: Step One Get a Crowd So many people start a podcast focused on the money. I understand that. We need money, but don't forget crowdfunding starts with the word Crowd. So step one is creating a crowd. You monetize your audience, and in a world of AM/FM, CD, Spotify, Netflix, HBO, Cable TV, Satelite radio, you need content that inspires people to tell their friends. You do that by making people: Laugh Cry Think Groan Learn Distracted If you can educate while you make them laugh, that's a win. If you deliver the content you can't get anyplace else that's a win. My biggest takeaway from this is you are not going to create what Michael Hyatt calls "WOW Content" by turning on a microphone and winging it unless you are insanely talented. That reminds me: If you're talented it is easier to grow your audience.  In a nutshell, you need  Good information Entertainment Quality production Time  I recently started noticing a pattern. Natali Eckdohl of bizchix.com really started crushing it in her business. Darren Dake started making close to six figures with his online courses, and Jeff Sanders is now selling more and more books. What was the pattern? Years. Natalie and Darren are three years in, and Jeff is approaching three.  You might say, "But what about John Lee Dumas? He got his sponsor in six months!" John Lee Dumas does the Entrepreneur on Fire podcast. He does it every day. So if you take John's six months that is more or less 180 episodes. If you do a weekly show, how long does it take you to do 180 episodes? 3.5 years. Does this mean that everyone should start a daily show? Hell No. John is one of the most organized, disciplined, and charismatic people I know. I know TONS of people who have tried to be John Lee Dumas and failed. Why? Becuase it comes to him naturally. Also, if you have a job, a spouse, and kids, you can't do a daily show and deliver good content (unless you are a Super Hero of some sort).  You Have to Treat It Like a Sponsor Even though some people choose to crowdsource over sponsorship, you still need to treat it like a sponsor and mention it in every episode. If your audience doesn't know how to support you, they won't do it.  Be Careful With Your Wording I've heard some podcasters say things like, "If we get up to a certain level we can kill the sponsors." This does not make sponsors feel loved.  Conclusion The first part of crowdfunding is getting a crowd and delivering so much value that they feel guilty for not supporting you. That takes time, effort, and dedication.

Edison “Failure is only the opportunity more intelligently to begin again.” ― Henry Ford “I believe that every single event in life happens in an opportunity to choose love over fear.” ― Oprah Winfrey Unfortunately, there seems to be far more opportunity out there than ability.... We should remember that good fortune often happens when opportunity meets with preparation. Thomas A. Edison There comes a moment in every life when the Universe presents you with an opportunity to rise to your potential. An open door that only requires the heart to walk through, seize it and hang on. The choice is never simple. It's never easy. It's not supposed to be. But those who travel this path have always looked back and realized that the test was always about the heart. ...The rest is just practice. Jaime Buckley Spend eighty percent of your time focusing on the opportunities of tomorrow rather than the problems of yesterday. Brian Tracy Missed Opportunities I do a show called the Alexacast that is all about getting the most out of your Amazon Echo, Dot, etc. So I have an audience that is tied to Amazon. One might say they are Amazon "Super Users." Yet then Amazon Prime day came, and I have an audience that is tied to Amazon, and I barely promoted it. I should've made a big deal about this, and made it an event.  Know What Opportunities Are Coming Up I found two sites that show special days. These are: https://www.daysoftheyear.com https://nationaldaycalendar.com By knowing when all these special days that come up, you might be able to make a special event to encourage your audience to interact with the show.  Sometimes You Need To Ask I heard Dan Klass from the Bitterest Pill is being inducted into the Academy of Podcasters Hall of Fame. I'm a HUGE Dan Klass fan. So I asked if I could do the induction speech to introduce Dan to an audience that may not know Dan like I feel I do.  Sometimes Opportunity Are Based on Previous Actions Because Jared and Dan from Podcast Movement had called on me in the past and I delivered "the Goods," and I had acted professionally in the past when I worked with them, I was given the opportunity to induct Dan. This puts me on a big stage. If I show people that I can handle the big stage (I've been a keynote speaker at some conferences) I can show the world that I can bring value to your event.  Mentioned in This Podcast Podcasters Roundtable Grammar Girl Podcast Philip Keller from Blind Faith Live (here Phillip on last week's show) Podcast Awards Order the Messengers Documentary on iTunes go to www.schoolofpodcasting.com/themessengers then send me an email with the subject link "I have a message - your name " (dave "at" schoolofpodcasting.com) I will give you a coupon for 40% off your first six months (this offer expired 8/24/17)

Want to join in on the conversation? Call 888-563-3228 There are a few times in your life when you can say, "I don't know," and yet you still have to move forward. One is when you are in college. If you're not ready to declare a major what do you do? When you are having a baby, but you don't know the sex, what do you do when your honest answer is, "I don't know." Podcast on the New Media Expo Floor on "Podcast Alley" If you are going to the New Media Expo, we are accepting submissions for people who want to record live "from the floor" if you're going (and you know you should be) go to www.schoolofpodcasting.com/podcastalley and submit your show today. Because of My Podcast: I Am Being More Effective At My Job Biagio and Joke are the hosts of the Producing Unscripted where they are now training their clients who are now producing better content - and thus they are helping people launch televisions show. Check them out at producingunscripted.com I'm Not Sure What To Podcast About: What To Do When You Can't Find a Topic [8:48] In those situations you take general classes (in the situation of college), and you go buy diapers, lots and lots of diapers, if you have a baby on the way. These are all skills you will need moving forward. No matter what your podcast is going to be about you will need to know the following: 1. How to plug a microphone in, and how to talk into it without having "popping P's" 2. You need to get proper recording levels 3. You could go to Wordpress.com (as a temporary play ground - not a permanent solution) and start tinkering around with understanding websites. 4. You can learn how to move files around to position them where you want them. All of these skills will be used no matter what type of podcast you launch. What happens if you never launch a podcast? You sell your microphone on ebay. What if your DO launch a podcast, and then later change your mind? There are very popular podcast hosts Mignon Fogherty (known as Grammar Girl) and Cali Lewis of geekbeat.tv who didn't find their current success on their first attempt at podcasting. Both of their show are their SECOND podcast. I've had a few podcasts that I tried that didn't work. Do I consider these failures? NO. I learned something from every show. They aren't mistakes, they are learning opportunities. In music, you can learn three chords (G,C, and D) and play a ton of songs using those basic chords. Episode Zero Strategy 19:41 You need ONE episode to submit your podcast to iTunes (many people wait till they have at least three to listen to before submitting their show. In the past I've said to tell people about you and to tell them what to expect. That was back in 2005. I've changed since then. Its best to bring the best content you have. To have them going WOW. This will bring you instant credibility. Then they will care about who you are because you help you. Part of this is based on the book Epic Content Marketing: How to Tell a Different Story, Break through the Clutter, and Win More Customers by Marketing Less that I've spoken about on other episodes. If I tell you my story (unless its a really good story) most people won't care. Move them with your content, then tell them your story. How to be part of Your Audience's Routine [27:51] While there are podcasters who are doing well without having a consistent schedule (like Joe Rogan), if you want to be part of your listeners routine, you need to come up with a consistent schedule. Darren Dake from The Coroner Podcast explained how he starts his Mondays with some quiet time with his Bible, and then he starts my podcast (that is a very humbling experience). But I am part of his routine because he can count on my show being there every Monday.  Are Your Ready To Start Podcasting? Join the School of podcasting today

After podcasting on a separate topic for a year, he decided to podcast about what he knew. He started coronertalk.com and his podcast was designed to help others who didn't have access to training to their job better. Being so niche, when people in this field find this show they love it. Consequently, his podcast positioned him as a trainer, a leader, and someone who knows what he is talking about and now he is the director of training for the Association of Deputy Sheriffs for the  state of Missouri. Darren feels his podcast put him in a position to be seen as an authority, as someone who obviously has a passion for teaching, and who knew what he was talking about. He will be developing training tracks and managing the whole training program. He had always eyed this job, but not pursued it. Now, because of his podcast the job pursued him. Darren had a previous show title Engaging Life and Leadership. Because of that show he was a panelist at Podcast Movement. He decided to cease production of that show. They produced 65 episodes, and they "podfaded." When I asked him why, he explained how it just wasn't fun anymore. He and his co-host had said about all there was to say on the subject. He took his experience from Engaging Life and Leadership and used it to create Coroner Talk. Last 5 in 5 - Darren Dake Here are the last 5 podcasts that Darrn listened to. Today's special co-host is Darren Dake from Engaging Life and Leadership podcast who shares his insights into co-hosting. When choosing a co-host some things yo might want to think about: 1. Finding someone who has the same passion 2. Someone who has the same schedule and can commit to the show.  3. Be sure to have things set in the vent you start getting popular so you know how does what, and how any money would get distributed.  4. When you get all the "business" out of the way you can get back to making great content that engages your audience. How to Find other Podcasters In Your Area? Check out meetup.com as well as groups, forums, etc and maybe toss out that question. If you build it they will come - just not true. You need to go to where your people are and network with them.  Hang Out on Air and your Podcast [13:45] Thinking outside the box has been going for 6 months at bountifulproductions.com When sending an invite into the Hangout on Air, send the URL at the top of the screen (not the one at the bottom).  Make sure you don't have a pop up blocker. Identifying and Embracing Your Uniqueness

Today we hear some clips on how you can market your business with podcasting, some podcasting pet peeves, and we talk about how to identify and embrace your uniqueness.   Because of My Podcast [1:50] I'm Getting Paid to Podcast on Another Show Jonathan Downham of criticalcarepractitioner.co.uk has four episodes into his own podcast when another company approached him to create a podcast for THEM (and for that he is getting paid).  Dave's Latest Appearances [3:24] Podcasts Roundtable Episode 27 "Pet Peaves II" Online Marketing and Communications with Job Buscall talking how to use Podcasting as a Marketing Tool Engaging Life and Leadership with Darren Dake and Anita Brooks Podcast Review Show now featuring "Podcast Talent Coach" Erik K Johnson Embracing Your Uniqueness [12:53] I've spoken about John Lee Doomis before, and this week we are talking about creating your own style and embracing what YOU bring to the table. Here are some examples in the "Podcasts about podcasting" realm. Ray Ortega has extensive video knowledge, and he produces a podcast for a living. Podcaster's Roundtable is purposely designed to NOT BE a "how to" podcast but instead focus on the issues around podcasting.  Daniel J Lewis has a background in web design and graphic arts. He is very detail oriented. We love to poke fun at Daniel's lists, but those lists are well thought out and create great content. This is why Daniel is the one podcast in the "podcasts about podcasting" world that can see he has WON (not just nominated) a podcast award.  For me, I have been helping people understand technology for over 20 years. I have a teaching background. I bill myself as someone who can help you understand technology without getting into geek speak. I've also been doing this since 2005 (and not many people can say that).  Cliff Ravenscraft has an hour long show that goes outside the scope of podcasting and talks a lot about social media, and what is going on in Cliff's life.  Podcast Help Desk is from Mike Dell. Mike brings his tech support experience to the microphone to identify common problems.  Scott Hertzdog is focusing on podcast gear (and only podcast gear).  Can You start Your Own Niche? What if you are a dental hygienist, and you want to do a podcast about social media. Why not start a podcast about using social media for dentists? Kathy Kelly does the special mouse podcast. Her son has autism so her podcasts focuses on going to Disney Parks with a person who has special needs.  Steph at Capturing Magic takes her love of Disney and Scrapbooking and puts them together.  Some Questions To Think About What are you talking about all the time? That you just can't seem to stop talking about? This is more than likely you passion. What do you bring to the table? You age, perspective, history, experience? What to Do When Someone Steals Your Content  Many bands tried to be the Beatles when they arrived on the scene. If you are being "copied" be flattered. Someone thinks your good enough to steal borrow from. Keep doing what you do well. It comes naturally to you. For someone who is trying to be you it won't come as easy. Remember LOTS of people "podfade" because of the work involved. You find it easy to be you, and it will be a chore for them.

Where is your podcast going in 2014? A goal is a dream with a deadline.  What are you dreams for the next year?  If you don't have a map & destination, you'll only wander.  You'll never get anywhere.  Let's be specific and set some deadlines. What is the one big thing you want to accomplish over the next year?  Develop little steps to get there.  Break the big goal into bite-sized pieces. If you create a weekly show, you only have 52 shows over the next 12 months.  It may sound like a lot.  However, you need to be intentional to reach your goals. What is your call to action within your podcast?  How can we make that call-to-action more effective?  Where are you sending your listener each episode to get more info?  Be specific and write it down. Are you monetizing your podcast?  There are many possibilities, such as books, speaking engagements, seminars, affiliates, products and more.  If you have yet to monetize your podcast, schedule your time to create something powerful.  Be sure to include deadlines. Do you interview guests on your show?  Create a list of guests you'd like to get on the show.  Be brave and reach out to those people.  Let's get them on the show.  Give yourself a goal with a deadline. Are you effectively planning each show before you begin?  Sometimes it is difficult to get motivated to record your show on a regular basis.  Plan ahead.  Download the planning worksheet at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com.  When you lack motivation, revert to plan you've already created. Are you reviewing your show on a regular basis?  To get better, you need to look at game tape.  All great sports teams review tape of previous games.  You should do the same.  Again, get the worksheet at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com.  Finding someone that can help you honestly review your show will help as well. The next year can be huge for you if you plan.  Set deadlines to turn your dreams into goals.  Be sure to find balance in all areas of your life. Take some chances.  Go for the big interview or launch a product.  Dream big.  You might just reach your dreams. I want to thank you for a tremendous 2013.  It has been quite a success for me.  I've launched the podcast to great success.  Many have downloaded my worksheets and purchased the Podcast Talent Coach workbook.  It has been a blast.  I couldn't do it without you. I do want to thank a few people for the 5-star reviews on iTunes.
