US pop singer Taylor Swift has won a civil case against an ex-DJ who she said grabbed her bottom after putting his hand under her skirt during a pre-concert photo opportunity in 2013.The case has grabbed headlines for the star's bold testimony in court, and emphasis that she wanted to fight the case not just for herself but for all women who are victimised.Here are four reasons why it's significant.1. It highlighted the underreporting of sexual assaultThe 2013 incident only became public in 2015 when radio personality David Mueller- who lost his job after Ms Swift's team reported the groping claim to his radio station - filed a defamation lawsuit against Ms Swift.With the incident out in the open, Ms Swift filed a countersuit alleging sexual assault - which she has just won.In court, Taylor Swift's mother, Andrea Swift, said she did not go to police when her daughter first told her she had been groped because: "I did not want this event to define her life.""I did not want her to have to live through the endless memes and gifs that tabloid media and internet trolls decided to come up with - doctoring the pictures… and making her relive this awful moment over and over again," she said.Ms Swift's lawyer said the star had wanted to keep the situation "discreet and quiet and confidential".Taylor Swift's mum confronts DJ in courtBut by not reporting the alleged groping to authorities in the first place, the pop superstar was responding in the same way that thousands of American women do every year.According to RAINN, the largest anti-sexual violence organisation in the United States, two out of three sexual assaults in the country go unreported.The top three reasons for people not doing so are fearing retaliation, not believing the police will help and considering it to be a "personal matter".Taylor Swift's reasons for not going to the police, as told by her mother, who is part of her management team, are revealing. The case highlights how some victims fear being ridiculed, not being believed or not being taken seriously after reporting an alleged sexual assault.2. She refused to back downThe trial showed how some defence lawyers try to undermine the credibility of an alleged victim.But some of the most potent moments occurred when Taylor Swift refused to let that happen.At one point, rejecting an accusation that she had misidentified Mueller, she said: "I'm not going to allow you or your client to say I am to blame."When asked why a photo taken at the time of the alleged incident does not show the front of her skirt ruffled, she bluntly responded: "Because my ass is located on the back of my body."3. Two students allege that Georgia Gwinnett College violated their First Amendment rights by enforcing a “speech code” restricting them from speaking publicly about their Christian faith on school property. The college revised the policy to allow free speech on campus, so a trial judge and an appeals court ruled the case was moot. The students disagreed, so brought the case to the Supreme Court. According to The New York Times, Justice Elena Kagan reflected on Swift's 2017 case against radio host David Mueller, who she accused of groping her at a meet-and-greet four years earlier. And on Today’s episode of The World In My Eyes, we are talking about a topic that has been in the news and I’m sure many of you probably have been on the edge of your seats thinking about, so we’re going to cover it today in detail. Yes, we’re going to share everything you need to know about Taylor Swift’s current court room drama where she’s suing a former Colorado DJ for a symbolic $1. You’ll have to picture the air quotes around symbolic so let’s just jump right into the quagmire. So if you’ve been hiding under a rock, or maybe if you’re just like me and don’t give a single f**k about TayTay, then you’re in for a shock… she’s involved in yet another drama-filled episode. That’s right…. Stemming from an alleged assault incident that happened in 2013, the Denver federal courthouse is all abuzz from all the drama that is the Taylor Swift dog and pony show. As the story goes, on June 2, 2013, Swift performed a concert at Denver's Pepsi Center. Before the show, she held a meet-and-greet where David Mueller, a host for the city's country music radio station KYGO, was present. Mueller — whose known as "Jackson" on the radio — and his then-girlfriend Shannon Melcher posed for a photo with Swift. Later that night, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a member of Swift's security team "approached Mueller and accused him of touching her inappropriately." Host Kathy Sipple speaks with David Mueller from Paul Henry's Art Gallery in Hammond about their current exhibit, "Pipelines and Borderlines: People Can't Drink Oil!" It is a group exhibit of 17 artists from across the U.S. who have produced work that brings attention to the tar sands oil issue nationally, regionally and locally in Northwest Indiana. "Pipelines and Borderlines" is a a traveling exhibit that has made its way through several locations in the Midwest and also Canada, Mexico and Nicaragua. The portfolio has changed depending on the location of a given show and the issues important in the locale of a particular exhibit. The extraction and processing of tar sands oil has always been part of the exhibit. "...People Can't Drink Oil" is a revised collection, drawing from and adding to the original portfolio and focuses on the proposed end processing of tar sands oil here in Northwest Indiana, specifically at the BP refinery in Whiting, and the potential impact of that operation on Lake Michigan and the local environment. 

David Mueller came in to talk about his new solo album from Heads on Sticks titled Mocking Bird. In this project David takes on the role of a mad scientist as he mixes and matches various sound effects on a whim that ends with a remarkably unique and sonically satisfying album, even taking clips from an actual mockingbird from his iPhone, which he calls a true “organic sampler.” David and I compared his newest music to his last three EPs ( you can download for free on his BandCamp page and I highly recommend) and listened to several songs off of the new record.
