The “It” Girl: The entertainment industry's term for the woman-of-the-moment. But did you know that Clara Bow was literally the first ever “It” Girl? In today's episode, Olivia & Dani revisit the long-running ‘Remaining Relevant' miniseries to break down the closing track of the standard version of ‘The Tortured Poets Department', which uses Clara as its namesake. Taylor has been in the industry long enough to know how the game is played: you find an attractive, talented girl; you make this girl into a star; you bleed her dry; you discard her.And on and on it spins. In this emotional track, Taylor explores different perspectives and narratives of the women of the past/future that have fallen victim to this system, as well as the execs in the chairs across from them that turned these women into “it” girls…and then move on to the next. We look at this Harvard Business Review Press book about Taylor Swift. For more about the book, see here. There's Nothing Like This: The Strategic Genius of Taylor Swift, reviewed This book is certainly readable. As someone who is aware of who she is, knows a few songs, and has teenagers who may have even gone to see her in concert there are reasons why this book was of potential interest for reviewing. The author also cites a lot of business management and thoughtful marketing thinkers too, Clayton Christiansen and Seth Godin yes we are talking about you here. Similarly words like pivot and pilot are used with business dev enthusiasm. This is all fine and dandy, but, as we read it, it was hard not to wonder if this was an attempt to shoehorn the career of Taylor Swift into a startup ethos vibe. The other question, and challenge in reading this narrative, was that, were we looking at Taylor Swift's career through the prism of a confirmation bias. She was, now is, wildly successful for sure, but does that mean that all of her albums, and her musical steps, and decisions made were actually that strategic or as carefully considered as the subtitle of this book would like us to think? As Bill Gates may have said, success can be a lousy teacher. All the more so when you consider musical careers. Lou Reed was an awful grump and cranky guy, if many accounts are to be believed, the Velvet Underground were both wildly unsuccessful first time around, and yet created some great songs and are considered to be one of the seminal and most important bands to have come out of the sixties. Was this therefore a clever strategic performance, or did they, eventually, stumble onto fame and fortune. Walk on the wild side and Waiting for my Man would hardly be obvious topics towards musical stardom. Coming back to Taylor, the book was informative, interesting, but the business analogies felt a bit clunky at times. Many fans felt that The Tortured Poets Department was a good single, or perhaps double album, lost in a triple. It would have been good to see how the author factored in this mishmash of an album in the slightly breathless prose of her faultless strategic rise to the top? Perhaps the classic result of so many triples, like Sandanista for example, so great songs, mixed in with some slightly to very odd ones too. This book might fall between too stools, not Taylor enough for TS fans, and a bit of a reach for business insights for those coming from a business or marketing background. More about the book here A smart, page-turning exploration of the business and creative decisions that transformed Taylor Swift into an unprecedented modern cultural phenomenon. Singer-songwriter. Trailblazer. Mastermind. The Beatles of her generation. From her genre-busting rise in country music as a teenager to the economic juggernaut that is the Eras Tour, Taylor Swift has blazed a path that is uniquely hers. But how exactly has she managed to scale her success–multiple times–while dominating an industry that cycles through artists and stars like fashion trends? How has she managed to make and remake herself time and again while remaining true to her artistic vision? And how has she managed to master the constant disruption in the music business that has made it so hard for others to adapt and endure? In "There's Nothing Like This," Kevin Evers, a senior editor at "Harvard Business Review," answers these questions in riveting detail. With the same thoughtful analysis usually devoted to iconic founders, game-changing innovators, and pioneering brands, Evers chronicles the business and creative decisions that have defined each phase of Swift's career. Mixing business and art, analysis and narrative, and pulling from research in innovation, creativity, psychology, and strategy, "There's Nothing Like This" presents Swift as the modern and multidimensional superstar that she is–a songwriting savant and a strategic genius. Swift's fans will see their icon from a ...

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes Party Favorz is back with the third installment of Club Taylor [Platinum Edition], continuing our complete overhaul of the original Taylor Swift remix series while pushing these final two volumes into entirely new territory. Expanding Beyond the Original Club Taylor The first two volumes leaned more heavily into the progressive, tribal and circuit-inspired sounds commonly associated with LGBTQ dance culture and festivals, while Volumes 3 and 4 expand into a broader modern dance spectrum that incorporates sweeping EDM, Progressive House, Dubstep, Future House, NuDisco and melodic crossover remixes geared toward hardcore Taylor fans looking for something beyond the expected club formula. Rebuilding the Series From Scratch As we started rebuilding these sets from scratch, it quickly became obvious that trying to force everything into one giant mix wasn't working. Even with strong remixes, too many songs began blending together after repeated listening. Taylor's songwriting style is so recognizable that placement and sequencing became just as important as the songs themselves. That's ultimately why this project evolved into four distinct volumes instead of simply updating the original release. Many of the strongest remixes from the original Club Taylor were already doing exactly what they needed to do, so they remained untouched. Others were replaced with alternate versions that better fit the atmosphere and flow of these newer volumes. In several cases, lesser-known remixes ultimately worked better than the bigger or more obvious choices because they allowed the songs to breathe naturally instead of overwhelming them with unnecessary production tricks. That approach helped shape the overall identity of the final two volumes. A More Modern Dancefloor Experience Tracks from 1989, Reputation, Lover, Red, Speak Now, Folklore, Midnights, The Tortured Poets Department and The Life of a Showgirl all coexist here, but they do so through a much broader modern dance lens than the earlier volumes. Songs like “Down Bad,” “Fortnight,” “Bad Blood,” “Karma,” “Cruel Summer,” “The Fate Of Ophelia” and “Opalite” naturally pushed the set deeper into melodic EDM and atmospheric territory, while classics like “Out Of The Woods,” “Ready For It,” “Blank Space,” “Style,” “Wildest Dreams,” “You Belong With Me” and “Shake It Off” helped anchor the larger club energy throughout the mix. At the same time, some songs simply didn't survive the rebuild process. A few remixes stayed too close to the original productions, while others disrupted the pacing or emotional momentum we were trying to create. Even fan favorite mashups were cut if they didn't contribute something unique to the overall listening experience. In the end, these final two volumes became less about creating a straightforward Taylor Swift remix collection and more about building a long-form dance experience that evolves from beginning to end without exhausting the listener. Party Favorz really pushed itself creatively on these final two volumes and we hope fans can appreciate the time and effort that went into creating them. We'll be back Saturday with the final volume where we diverge a bit and have something to say about what's happening in the United States at the moment. Until the next time...ENJOY! The charges were dropped this morning. Annie got the call the day we recorded. That moment alone — a DA personally writing a letter, a detective calling ahead to warn her, a system finally seeing through the fog he spent years creating — is the kind of validation that doesn't arrive on a schedule. It arrives when it's ready. And it arrived that day.Part II picks up where we left off: the gun safe emptied, the car packed, the decision made. But leaving, as so many survivors know, is not the end of the story. It is often where the real battle begins. What followed was a masterclass in post-separation abuse. False child abuse allegations. Eighteen secretly recorded videos hoarded for months. A will drafted by him and his father — signed the day before a beach trip — that would have handed everything, including their children, to his family if anything had happened to her. A neurologist he was calling behind her back, managing her appointments, controlling her results. A smear campaign that started on their wedding day.And through all of it — two toddlers to raise, a rental to furnish, a legal war to survive, and not one child support payment received.Annie is still in it. She is not on the other side yet. But she has an underlying peace she cannot fully explain, a burner phone, a really good attorney, and the Tortured Poets Department on repeat. She said it herself: she is very much living "The Smallest Man That Ever Lived." Twice.

"Never be so kind, you forget to be clever; Never be so clever, you forget to be kind." We're celebrating Women's History Month the only way we know how: looking at strong women in Taylor Swift's music. Jenn traces the wisdom and boldness Taylor inherited from her grandmother in "Marjorie" (evermore, 2020), Jodi unpacks the resilience hiding in plain sight throughout "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart" (The Tortured Poets Department, 2024), and Maansi makes the case that "Eldest Daughter" (The Life of a Showgirl, 2025) is basically the anthem of every firstborn girl who had to figure it out before anyone else did. Plus: why the Iceland women's strike of 1975 worked, and why Taylor Swift might be the only person capable of organizing a global one. This week, we're going line by line through "Down Bad" from Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department (2024). Jenn, Maansi, and Jodi unpack one of the album's most emotionally raw — and unexpectedly hilarious — songs, diving deep into its extended alien abduction metaphor, what it really means to be "down bad," and how Taylor uses sci-fi imagery to explore love bombing, power dynamics, and the messiest stages of heartbreak. We also discuss how this song connects to last week's Hero's Journey episode, why crying at the gym might be the most relatable lyric Taylor has ever written, and what the repetitive, fading outro says about the cycle of emotional abuse. Plus: cow mutilation, Kate McKinnon's SNL alien sketches, Thor and Natalie Portman, and The Other Boleyn Girl. Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Charlie Puth has spent the last decade topping charts with hits like “See You Again,” “Attention” and “We Don't Talk Anymore” and recently performed the national anthem at the 2026 Super Bowl, drawing inspiration from Whitney Houston's iconic rendition. Puth sits down with Willie Geist at a New York City jazz club to discuss his fourth studio album, “Whatever's Clever,” an orchestral pop record influenced by late 1980s and early 1990s yacht rock, while reflecting on the pivotal moments that shaped his rise from accidental pop star to global headliner. Plus, he opens up about a recent conversation with former President Barack Obama about the importance of music education, how Taylor Swift's “The Tortured Poets Department” lyric pushed him to be more vulnerable and how marriage and impending fatherhood have reshaped his songwriting. GET TICKETS TO THE SNERAS TOUR AUSTRALIA: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com Taylor Swift's Tortured Poets Department might be her most narratively complete album… and yet it never received its final chapter. In this video, we imagine the era that never happened — the missing act of Tortured Poets. If Midnights had a spectacle and Folklore/Evermore had a world, then TTPD should have had a stage. So what would a Tortured Poets tour actually look like? We design the full concept from scratch — staging, visuals, symbolism, costumes, and narrative arc — and map the album onto a live theatrical structure that resolves its themes of performance, martyrdom, ego death, and public trial. This week on 13: A Taylor Swift Fan Podcast, we're doing something a little different. Due to a winter storm hitting Texas and throwing off recording schedules, Ana hops on the mic for a special solo Swiftie Q&A episode—and it ended up feeling like a warm, one-on-one check-in with the community. After opening up questions on Instagram, Ana answers everything from which Taylor Swift album she'd relive for the first time, to top five albums right now, to which songs she skips (yes, it depends on the mood). She reflects on the magic of hearing Midnights for the first time, revisits beloved eras like Red, Speak Now, and 1989, and shares why The Tortured Poets Department continues to hit differently now that we're stepping into the Showgirl era. Ana also dives into: What newer Swifties may have missed pre-folklore Dream Taylor Swift music videos that never happened Songs she'd love to break down again Favorite non-Taylor artists she's listening to right now Whether live events are coming back (Swifties in the City fans, take note!) This solo bonus is equal parts Swiftie nostalgia, thoughtful reflection, and emotional connection, and it sets the stage perfectly for what's coming next as 13 begins its deep dive into The Life of a Showgirl, starting with Fate of Ophelia. Grab your cardigans, get cozy, and hang out with us—because even when plans change, the Swiftie community always shows up. Stay warm, take care of yourselves, and we'll see you next week. "All that time I sat alone in my tower, you were just honing your powers. Now I can see it all, see it all." This week, we're deep diving "The Fate of Ophelia" (The Life of a Showgirl, 2025). We go line by line through the lead single from Taylor's latest album, exploring everything from Hamlet references to fairy tale imagery, the contrast between "high brow" poetic language and colloquial modern speak, and why this song is actually packed with green flags about healthy relationships. GET TICKETS TO THE SNERAS TOUR IN AUSTRALIA: https://www.evolutionofasnake.com Welcome back to our recap of the most important docuseries in history. In today's dispatch, we revisit episode 4: where Taylor somehow finds the time—mid-tour—to create and record The Tortured Poets Department, turning exhaustion into fuel and isolation into art. It is short and sweet, but it was everything. She opens up about meeting Travis Kelce and developing a very... earnest...passion for football, before roping her stage-husband-to-be into an Eras skit at the hallowed London show WE attended. We get a surprise crossover moment with Sabrina Carpenter with busted harmonies, and a moving reflection from dancer Whyley on identity, visibility, and what it meant to be handed “…Ready for It?” as a career-defining opportunity. The Eras Tour closes out its final U.S. stops in New Orleans and Indianapolis—loud, emotional, and teetering on the edge of something bigger. Enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. The Eras Tour Docuseries is finally here! We are so excited to watch this series and learn how the Eras Tour all came together, so we put together some theories about what we think each of the six episodes will tackle. There's just simply too much to tackle and we are SO grateful that we get six whole episodes to see it!!!We're back with another attempt at making Taylor's songs fit into the theme of Christmas! "I Look in People's Windows" is a very intriguing track off The Tortured Poets Department, and one that we both find so beautiful and curious. It's also the shortest song in Taylor's entire discography and doesn't ever include a bridge. But, Rachel ponders, perhaps the whole song itself is a bridge for the album as a whole.Share with us your thoughts on today's episode by sending an email to swiftandswigspodcast@gmail.com.Leave us a written review on the Apple Podcasts app!Follow and rate our podcast on Spotify! "In the blink of a crinkling eye, I'm sinking, our fingers entwined." This week, we're deep diving one of The Tortured Poets Department's most nostalgic and playful tracks: "So High School." We explore how this Aaron Dessner collaboration captures the giddiness of adult romance that feels refreshingly simple and unguarded—like being transported back to those butterflies-in-your-stomach moments of teenage crushes. From twinkling lights to truth or dare, we unpack how Taylor Swift uses high school imagery not to describe where she is, but how love makes her feel. "That's a Real Legacy to Leave." This week, we're diving deep into the art of double meanings in Taylor Swift's songwriting! Join us as we explore how Taylor crafts lyrics that can be interpreted in multiple ways simultaneously, and how she uses this technique to add layers of depth to her storytelling. We analyze three songs where the titles themselves contain double meanings: "seven" from folklore, "Maroon" from Midnights, and "loml" from The Tortured Poets Department. From the ambiguity of hitting your peak at seven (feet? years old?) to the devastating transformation from "love of my life" to "loss of my life," we uncover Taylor's intentional wordplay and what it reveals about her meticulous craft. Join me as we break down songs like So Long London, Down Bad, I Can Do It With a Broken Heart, Father Figure, Cancelled!, Eldest Daughter, and The Fate of Ophelia, exploring how Taylor mirrors the process of mindfluness, emotional healing, holding more than 1 emotion at once, and self-trust through her lyrics. In this episode, we talk about:

The kids are at home, the holiday activities are seemingly endless and you probably need a break. So welcome back to the podcast that's not just any parenting podcast. On the show today: You're officially excused from ever attending your child's sport practice. Don't believe us? Just ask the professional soccer player Abby Wambach. Plus, are you an eldest daughter? Well, so is Taylor Swift and the birth order theory might explain a lot. And, magicians are having a moment. But this time it's not just for the kids. So get the girls over, put the kids to bed and enjoy some whimsy. And our recommendations:
