The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2018/02/binary-system-podcast-113-wtnv-episode-121-a-story-of-love-and-horror-part-1-barks/ This week the twins are recapping the pre-Valentine's Day return of Night Vale, featuring one of Night Vale's newest romantic couples, a pair that is so cute and well-adjusted we're wondering exactly how it's all going to go horribly horribly wrong. And never being one to stick to a topic, we also talk about hangover cures, Oscar-nominations, cosplay possibilities for the upcoming convention season, and Stephen King books that are not allowed in our homes. This week's outro music was a clip from "Riches and Wonders" by Eliza Rickman & Jherek Bischoff. You can hear the full song at minute 14:25 on this week's Night Vale episode. https://youtu.be/QS6PXE3JTfA Kind of a correction except not really: The concept Kathryn was talking about that's related to the Theory of Relativity is called Time Dilation, and there's a fascinating article about it here. http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/discoblog/2010/10/25/einstein-air-miles-do-frequent-fliers-age-at-a-different-rate/#.Wn3jCbiVGi4 It turns out that people in an airplane actually DO age more slowly due to moving faster through space. However, weaker gravity makes you move FASTER in time, and planes travel high enough in the atmosphere that they're at a lower gravity, which cancels out the effects from the speed. Sorry, frequent flyers, you're just as old as the rest of us. Now people traveling on high-speed RAIL however...

In this second part of my conversation with Eliza Rickman, we get a little more personal. We discuss struggles with relationships and anxiety. Talk about how the past can keep coming back to trip you. She has found EMDR to be very helpful and suggested the following resources from WebMD & Psychology Today. I am so grateful she is so open and honest. The more we share, the smaller the world gets. The more we understand we are not alone, the better. As always, ask questions. If you are struggling, ask for help. What to be a guest? www.douginapub.com
Brett is back as a co-host and we answer a question we received after episode 5. We talk about relationships, transactional relationships and expectations. We also answer two random questions. The next episode will be the second half of my conversation with Eliza Rickman. We talk about anxiety and depression. Do you want to be a guest? Do you have any questions? Thanks for listening.
This is part one of my two part conversation with Eliza Rickman. We listen to two of her songs and talk about music and the industry. She has toured with Welcome to Nightvale & Rasputina. She has worked with Jherek Bischoff & Jason Webley. Part two will be a little more personal and talk about anxiety and struggles within relationships. That will be episode eight. Episode 7 is up next. Brett will be joining me to talk about transactional relationships. We will also talk about internal change vs external and the ego. www.elizarickman.com
I talk and fear and love. Pretty straight forward episode. My favorite quote about fear: “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” Frank Herbert, Dune My favorite quote about love: “Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.” Patrick Rothfuss, The Wise Man's Fear Episode 6 will be part one of my conversation with Eliza Rickman. Here is the post where I asked Brett to marry me. Thank you for listening, spread the word. Love each other. Have a question or want to be a guest? doug@douginapub.com
On this episode I have a conversation with Jason Rogers, the Fezmonger. He runs Fez-O-Rama. He makes Fezzes. He has an interesting story and great talent. His team has made some amazing products. Some of the best made clothing I own. Episode 5 will be about fear and love. I also have some great interviews lined up. The brew master from Giant Jones Brewery. Singer song write Mark Croft and the amazing Eliza Rickman. Do you have any questions? Want to be a guest? doug@douginapub.com

This week, we’re joined by a fantastic singer-songwriter and good friend of ours, Eliza Rickman! Not only that, but we’re recording this episode on her birthday, Kevin’s joining Jack in Japan and we’re talking about the gosh danged finale of season four! DS9 fans know that means we’ll be diving into such exciting topics as a melty and gross Odo, a genocidal Garak, a shapeshfting Gowron, a gardener on Romulus and so much more! In addition to all that, Eliza will be delving into her experiences with polite European stalkers (Bajorno!), announcing a variety of new podcasts that she’ll be co-hosting with us starting next week, her Worf-centric sexual awakening and, yes, MORE! Be sure to check out her albums at elizarickman.bandcamp.com and see her live during her current tour of the Pacific Northwest and upcoming tour of Europe with Welcome to Nightvale!
DONNA THE BUFFALO's feel-good, groove-oriented, danceable and often socially conscious music all began over twenty years ago with roots in old time fiddle music that evolved into a soulful electric Americana mix infused with elements of cajun/ zydeco, rock, folk, reggae, and country. Donna the Buffalo is known for touring the country remaining fiercely independent as one of the industrys most diverse roots-music bands and has "earned a reputation as one of the most respected, eclectic and hardest-working acts today," praises Encore. The band just released their 10th studio album 'Tonight, Tomorrow and Yesterday' [Sugar Hill Records]. ELIZA RICKMAN's presence on stagewhether she wears flowers in her hair, or stuffed birds; whether she plays a toy piano or a grand pianois an enveloping, soft darkness, impossible to ignore. It is quite a surprise that Rickman didnt even realize she could sing until after she earned a degree in orchestration from Azusa Pacific University, because her voice is the most enthralling and salient feature of any on the tracks from her new album O, You Sinners. And this is saying something, considering her deftness as a pianist and her subtlety as a composer. Fans of Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Joanna Newsom, St. Vincent, and Andrew Bird will not want to miss her unique per-formance.
A pastor's daughter, Eliza Rickman learned to play the piano in church at age 13, and then discovered Nick Cave. Things went south from there - or north depending on your prespective - and now Rickman is a musical artist who is not exactly religious, although her most recent album, O, You Sinners, is laced with religious references. Controversial but honest themes pervade her music and her acts, which are often accompanied by a toy piano or an accordian or a grand piano in complex lyrical melodies. She is witty, sometimes profane, down to earth, always in tune and very, very talented. Her music is a joy to listen to and her lyrics make you think. There is nothing like her and you will be so happy you listen to her words and her music. Cold Blood Club is a dark,8-piece band that sings like an indie rock love letter to New York City and puts a new spin on the electro dance/pop sound with an edgy blend of soul and rock influences. Inspired by life in New York and the likes of New Order, Depeche Mode, Broken Social Scene and The Flaming Lips, guitarist/songwriter Tom Stuart (Radio America) began writing songs for powerhouse singer Kendra Jones. What started as a small studio project quickly evolved into a collective of dynamic live musicians. After recruiting former bandmates Jesse Reno (Radio America) to play bass and Brad Peterson (Earlymay) to join on lead vocals, Cold Blood Club was soon joined by wunderkind drummer Shin Kamei (Angela Jane), flame haired violinist Hilary Davis (Bella Koshka) and Adina Benno on keys. The rest is history - and great music.
