In this episode, Nick Engvall interviews Aaron and Andy, two sneaker enthusiasts and educators. They discuss their love for sneakers, the positive aspects of sneaker culture, and the impact of social media on the sneaker community. Aaron and Andy share their experiences creating sneaker content and the joy they find in connecting with others who share their passion. They also talk about the influence of sneakers in education and how it can help build relationships with students. The conversation highlights the evolving trends in sneaker culture and the different perspectives of older and younger generations. The conversation explores the lack of innovation and connection in the sneaker industry, particularly with Nike. The hosts discuss the absence of iconic moments and the decline of collaborations that resonate with younger generations. They suggest that Nike has become too comfortable and reliant on past successes, while other brands are embracing storytelling and grassroots efforts. The hosts also highlight the importance of fostering creativity and intentionality in design education to inspire future generations of sneaker enthusiasts. In this final part of the conversation, Andy and Aaron discuss the importance of in-person experiences with sneakers and the value of creating immersive experiences for sneaker releases. They also talk about the affordability and comfort of certain sneaker models and the changing dynamics of the sneaker market. They share their recent sneaker pickups and discuss the significance of certain collaborations and colorways. The conversation ends with a reflection on the nostalgia and personal stories associated with sneakers.Donate to Support the Show: https://venmo.com/sneakerhistoryJoin our Discord Community: https://discord.gg/xJFyWmWgzaEarly Access and Exclusive Videos On Patreon: https://patreon.com/sneakerhistorySubscribe on YouTube: https://youtube.com/sneakerhistory—–––– Check out our other shows: —––––For the Formula 1 Fans --> Exhaust Notes: https://exhaustnotes.fmFor the Fitted Hat Fans --> Crown and Stitch: https://crownandstitch.comFor the Cars & Sneakers Fans --> Cars & Kicks: https://carsxkicks.comFor the Creators --------> Outside The Box: https://podcasts.apple.com/id/podcast/outside-the-box-convos-with-creators/id1050172106—–––– EXCLUSIVE DEALS FOR YOU FROM OUR PARTNERS —––––[Links contain affiliate links, we may receive a small commission if you make a purchase after clicking a link. This week we welcome Nick Engvall, veteran of the sneaker industry media space, and founder of Sneaker History. Nick also co-hosts a number of podcasts about sneakers, cars, and Formula 1 in particular, all of which are discussed in this episode. The sneaker space has many parallels with the watch enthusiast space, and has experienced many of the same highs and lows in recent years, and we talk about what makes each unique. There's also plenty of nostalgia here, as well car talk. You can find more of Nick at the links below. TSN Hockey Analyst Mike Johnson joined OverDrive to discuss the Maple Leafs opening the second half with a defeat to the Islanders, the defensive lapses on Kyle MacLean's first NHL goal, Sheldon Keefe's blunt comments, Pierre Engvall's return to the city and the Oilers' chasing the consecutive wins record.
Pierre Engvall sinks his former team with a goal in the final minutes, as the Leafs lose 3-2 to the Islanders at Scotiabank Arena. JD Bunkis and Sam McKee break down the loss, and discuss the Engvall goal - who does the blame fall on, Morgan Rielly, Ilya Samsonov, or someone else? They get into the recent play of William Nylander (especially since signing the big contract), Samsonov vs. Sorokin, and Simon Benoit stepping up once again. Plus, with the news that NHL players are returning to international competition, JD and Sam chat about Team Canada's chances. Locked On Penguins - Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Penguins
Happy Tuesday! Hunter starts the show with an ode to Stan Stavran, who is one of the best to ever do it in Pittsburgh sports media history. He is someone that Hunter and so many others looked up to over the last several years and he will be missed by so many. After that, Hunter discusses why Pierre Engvall would be a GREAT fit for the Penguins' bottom six after the couple of seasons he's had. He looks at the numbers and what he's seen from him on film before he discusses how Kyle Dubas has been with him for each of the last four seasons. That alone makes him a prime target to be signed but he also would take the pressure off the big guns at times, especially since he's still a young enough player. After that, Hunter looks at Mark Friedman's season in review and why he's a perfect No. 7 defenseman for the team. His underlyings continue to be solid while he also provides a little bit of a troll/physical element, which everyone loves. He can also provide some offense at times, which is nice for an extra defenseman. Finally, Hunter ends the show with a preview of Game 5 and how the Vegas Golden Knights can win Lord Stanley's Cup. The Hurricanes played well, but were victim to a couple of costly mistakes in a 3-2 loss at PNC Arena in Game 5. The series now shifts back to Long Island for Game 6 on Friday night. Brent Burns and Jaccob Slavin combined on a 1st period miscue that ended up on Pierre Engvall's stick and he slid the puck underneath the left pad of Antti Raanta for a 1-0 lead. Then, New York got a fortunate bounce as an Engvall shot deflected off the face of Sebastian Aho and fell to Brock Neslon at the side of the goal. Nelson batted the puck in out of the air for a 2-0 lead. Paul Stastny brought a goal back on a deflection of a Jalen Chatfield point shot. But, the Isles restored the 2-goal margin late in the 2nd period after Martin Necas had the puck stolen from him at the blue line leading to a Matt Barzal goal. Sebastian Aho closed out the scoring midway through the 3rd on a beautiful pass from Seth Jarvis but Carolina couldn't find the equalizer.

Yesterday was absolutely WILD in the NHL. The guys break down all the major trades that went through yesterday, as well as a few that happened in the days leading up to this episode. Also, apologies for the *slightly* worse audio in this one, we had some technical difficulties and had to use our backup files. Episode Structure (Trades talked about):1. Meier to NJD2. Jeannot to TBL3. Orlov and Hathaway to BOS4. McCabe and Lafferty to TOR5. Sandin to WSH, Engvall to NYI, Schenn to TOR6. and more!Support the podcast:1. The Toronto Maple Leafs are not done making moves as they made three separate trades that have altered the roster. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti look at the deal that kick-started it all with Rasmus Sandin going to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Erik Gustafsson and a first-round pick. They discuss why they think this trade was made and what made Sandin expendable. Toronto wasn't done there as they decided to bring back Luke Schenn but what role should we expect him to play? Mike and Dave look at how Schenn was used in Vancouver and how he fits their blue line. Then the Leafs sent Pierre Engvall to the New York Islanders in a trade that provides some salary cap relief and now gives the Leafs more possibilities to consider going forward if Kyle Dubas plans to keep on dealing. TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston joins Julia and Al's Brother to talk about if Tavares and Engvall could be ready for opening night, how deep the Leafs roster is and how they stack up against other elite teams, and the latest with Hockey Canada. He also shares a spicy Leafs prediction.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will have some decisions to make to get cap compliant before the start of the regular season. Mike DiStefano and David Morassutti go through the team's salary cap situation with some help from CapFriendly's Armchair GM tool. They address some concerns from listeners about moving Pierre Engvall not making Mike's opening night projected roster (3:40). With John Tavares injured, Mike and Dave look at the options when it comes to the designation he will carry going into the season as well as Timothy Liljegren (5:23). Which players could we expect to see placed on waivers in order to trim the Leafs cap number heading into the final cuts while also factoring Zach Aston-Reese signing a contract (7:50).They look at alternate options to make the team cap compliant without making a trade and how it would put the team in a tough position playing shorthanded (12:40). Mike and Dave explain why a trade remains the best option to getting cap compliant and rank the three players who remain the best options to move (15:45). They simulate what an Engvall trade would open up in terms of flexibility and the long term effects it will have from now until the trade deadline and other factors that would make this the right move purely for cap reasons (18:30).
