Brendan Batchelor joins Jamie to break down the Canucks' current struggles and the challenges they face with playoff hopes still alive. With the team battling injuries, including Filip Hronek's absence, and defensive issues mounting, can Vancouver hang on? They discuss recent roster moves, including sending down Arshdeep Bains and calling up Mark Friedman, as well as the team's need for a trade. What type of move should the Canucks make—depth or a big splash? Plus, we dive into Nils Höglander's dwindling role, his potential as a trade chip, and whether the Canucks can turn their offensive struggles around. Satiar Shah also joins the conversation to talk about the playoff race, the challenges of acquiring defensemen in a weak trade market. It's been quite the last 24 hours for the Pittsburgh Penguins with the Erik Karlsson deal. After doing an emergency show on Sunday, Pat and Hunter are back for a normal show on Monday as they continue to discuss the Erik Karlsson deal. They look at why the naysayers are looking at this deal all wrong considering that the Penguins have won three Stanley Cups during this era and how this trade sets the Penguins up to not be irrelevant sooner rather than later. They also look at what this deal means for the rest of the defense, specifically that No. 6 spot now that Jan Rutta is no longer with the team. Is Chad Ruhwedel the favorite for the job? What about Mark Friedman? After that, they look at what Kyle Dubas could have in store next. Is Tomas Tatar on the team's radar? Will they have the space for him? Happy Tuesday! Hunter starts the show with an ode to Stan Stavran, who is one of the best to ever do it in Pittsburgh sports media history. He is someone that Hunter and so many others looked up to over the last several years and he will be missed by so many. After that, Hunter discusses why Pierre Engvall would be a GREAT fit for the Penguins' bottom six after the couple of seasons he's had. He looks at the numbers and what he's seen from him on film before he discusses how Kyle Dubas has been with him for each of the last four seasons. That alone makes him a prime target to be signed but he also would take the pressure off the big guns at times, especially since he's still a young enough player. After that, Hunter looks at Mark Friedman's season in review and why he's a perfect No. 7 defenseman for the team. His underlyings continue to be solid while he also provides a little bit of a troll/physical element, which everyone loves. He can also provide some offense at times, which is nice for an extra defenseman. Finally, Hunter ends the show with a preview of Game 5 and how the Vegas Golden Knights can win Lord Stanley's Cup. It's been a busy day for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the next few will only get busier! That's why Rob Rossi of The Athletic joins Hunter to touch on the latest moves that were made on Tuesday as the Penguins put Brock McGinn and Mark Friedman on waivers. Is Ron Hextall cooking something up? What's the latest with JT Miller? Rob tries his best to answer both of those questions before looking at Jakob Chychrun. Is Mike Sullivan still pushing for HExtall to get a deal done there? The two also discuss if the Penguins could be pulling off a package deal where they could fill multiple holes in one deal. After that, they discuss if the Penguins could look to add a goalie during this deadline and if Hextall is feeling the heat to do something since his job is very much on the line over the next couple of months. Finally, the two look ahead to this week as this is a major week for this team as the Penguins try and put some distance between them and other teams in the playoff race. Omar Khan spoke to the media today at the NFL Combine and yet again seemed to shed praise on Mitch Trubisky. The way he's talking makes Poni seem convinced Trubisky is back as long as he wants to be, but with many QB vacancies around the league, will he? Poni thinks it's a mistake on the Steelers end, but also tells him the front office isn't sold on the health of Kenny Pickett.  Penn State PxP voice Steve Jones joined the show. Steve talked about the differences between Devin Bush and Ryan Shazier from what he saw from those guys when they played against Penn State. The conversation then focused on Joey Porter Jr., who has been predicted to the Steelers in a lot of mock drafts. Steve said the interception numbers are easy to explain – other teams didn't throw his way. Steve raved about his lack on penalties this past season after it was a big issue earlier in his career at Penn State. Steve talked about why Porter isn't mocked in the top of the draft and how he manages to slip to the Steelers. Steve got into where Porter fits into a defense and where he seems to play best. He said Porter is a very smart player to go along with his natural talent. Steve labeled Porter as a good tackler, which the Steelers always look at with players in the secondary. Steve highlighted the length and closing speed for Porter. Another big question was how is Joey Porter Sr. as a football dad, but Steve gave a surprisingly good answer. Poni also wanted Steve's take on Penn State hoops and if the Nittany Lions are poised for the NCAA Tournament.  BREAKING NEWS: The Penguins have waived Brock McGinn and Mark Friedman. Does that open things up for the Pens to make a big deal at the trade deadline?

“Dust-in Case” WPG@PIT 01/13/23The Pens welcome the Winnipeg Jets for a home tilt on Pittsburgh ice, hoping to make it a ‘streak,' after besting the Yotes and ‘Nucks over the past week. I stayed up late last night, watching the January 12, 1985 matchup of EDM@PIT, live from Civic Arena. It was Mario's first time going up against Gretzky's Oilers, and let me tell you: Apart from Lemieux scoring on his first shift, putting the Penguins up 1-0, the game used to be a HECK of a lot crazier back then. Obscene, uncalled violations of practically every sequence. So as much as we (I'm no exception) complain about, “Ref, how can you NOT call that,” trust me: The game we watch today is a WHOLE hell-of-a-lot more civilized than what was happening in the mid-eighties. Mark Friedman is back up with the NHL club, Pittsburgh Penguin Taylor Fedun will be wearing a suit and enjoying the game from the Mike Lange Media Level, and Andrew McCutchen is/was/is a Pirate. The Pittsburgh Penguins' injury curse had to live on. Yeah, you guys knew it wasn't going away anytime soon. Hunter starts this show by going into the unfortunate news about Jeff Petry as he is set to miss close to a month with that hand injury. He looks at how the Penguins will reconfigure their defensive pairs during that time and how much more weight is about to be on the shoulders of Kris Letang. He then analyzes the Penguins' callups and why the two that came up made the most sense. He goes into Drew O'Connor's recent hot stretch down in WBS and why Mark Friedman will be more of a warm body because the Penguins still have 6 healthy defensemen right now. Yes, he does get to the Ty Smith stuff and why it wouldn't make much sense to bring him up...at least for right now. after that, he looks at POJ's game as a whole and how he continues to show that he's going to be a long-term top 4 defenseman in this league. Hunter dives into the numbers (which are career-highs) that show just how good he's been at both ends of the rink. He then begs the question of whether POJ should get more minutes while Petry is out. Should he come up to the top pairing? Should he be the full-time QB of the second PP? Finally, Hunter looks ahead to the Panthers and what's making them struggle this season before teasing a full preview episode on Wednesday with Armando Velez.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. The preseason is finally over! The Pittsburgh Penguins dismantled the Buffalo Sabres, 7-1 on Friday night to end the preseason as the regular season is only a few days away! Hunter goes into who stood out in this game and he has to start with Ty Smith. He marvels at how good he was with the puck and how he looked to be in rookie form in this one. He makes the argument that if the Penguins can get this level from Ty Smith during the season, they'll win the Marino trade. Oh yeah, if he's not in the top six to start the season, there's a BIG problem. He then looks at how well Jake Guentzel and Sidney Crosby played (water is wet) before addressing Danton Heinen's beautiful goal. He breaks it down and shows how flashy he is with the puck. Is he going to score 18-20 this season or will he be closer to 12-15? Hunter gives his prediction for that before going into POJ's performance. Was this his last gasp? Did he do enough to earn a spot on this year's team? Could both he and Mark Friedman get waived before the season starts? He then looks at how well Jake Guentzel and Sidney Crosby played (water is wet) before addressing Danton Heinen's beautiful goal. He breaks it down and shows how flashy he is with the puck. Is he going to score 18-20 this season or will he be closer to 12-15? Hunter gives his prediction for that before going into POJ's performance. Was this his last gasp? Did he do enough to earn a spot on this year's team? Could both he and Mark Friedman get waived before the season starts? All that, plus MUCH more on this episode of Locked On Penguins! It's somehow almost the final week of June and that means the NHL Draft and free agency are just around the corner. Before Hunter gets to some free agency stuff, he starts the show off by touching on a couple of promotions that the Penguins announced on Monday. One is a long-time player in the organization getting a pretty prominent role, while the other is taking Andy Saucier's role from the last few years. He gives his thoughts on those moves and how much could change over the next few seasons (especially in Saucier's old job) before getting to Mark Friedman's season review? How was his first real season of action? Could he provide the team with more value next season? Is he able to play higher up in the lineup if he's not the No. 7? After that, Hunter touches on an option that fans aren't thinking about enough when it comes to the second-line center spot if Malkin doesn't come back. Hint: Part of it involves signing a premier winger. Finally, Hunter ends the show with a little Jeff Prety rumor and whether it's worth it for the Penguins to trade for him if Kris Letang walks.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Seth Feinman is a 15-year veteran in the mortgage industry. His current role is Vice President of Silver Fin Capital, where he manages the licensed loan origination team. He is most proud of working one-on-one with clients to find the best loan product based on their unique situations. Mark Friedman is an award-winning real estate broker at Brown Harris Stevens, and also represents buyers and sellers in Manhattan real estate as a Friedman-Rosenthal team member at Halstead Property. Seth and Mark share with listeners how they can have lenders fight for their business. They talk about interest rates and how to win the property. When divorce happens, one party may potentially need to keep the home and refinance, and the other is going to be moving out and potentially buying. Self-employed borrowers need to work with mortgage brokers as opposed to mortgage bankers - it affords them more options and different ways to structure their loan. You have to be smart about who you hire as a mortgage broker, and ensure that you do research yourself as well. People who work in banks will act in the interest of their employers, and in order to keep them happy they will sell clients whatever product their lender has available, which may or may not be what works best for the client.
