The gang gets together to discuss the MNUFC 2021 season. Suffice to say, they all had different rankings, like literally, no one was on the same page. It was a glorious mess! We also briefly discussed the USMNT playing a WCQ in February in Minnesota and potential World Cup Qualifier action! Also, Jess is very sad that Ethan Finlay is no longer a Loon!
Minnesota United midfielder Ethan Finlay joins the show alongside Kyndra de St. Aubin and Callum Williams as we preview this weekends matchup between your Loons and Houston Dynamo at Allianz Field. The Match Preview Show is presented by Great Clips.
The Daves discuss a very ugly win in Houston, and boy, do they have problems. They also briefly discuss the recent Ethan Finlay quotes in the Fishwrap Factory Westside and break down some Loonz Newz. After the break, it's Minneapolis City, Gophers Soccer, and some USMNT news about the upcoming start of the Octagonal. It's very much a hodgepodge kinda podcast with far too much discussion of the shit we watched on Saturday night.
Introduction: Enough happened in Wednesday's Twins game for host Michael Rand to make several notes and for columnist Patrick Reusse to urgently text late at night with the message "call me." Turns out he just wanted to cackle about Alex Colome, Hansel Robles and all that unfolded late in the game when Colome blew a save but Robles returned the favor. Other items of interest: The Twins are now 11-2 in extra inning games since starting 0-8. And Miguel Sano launched the longest home run in the majors this season (495 feet), leading Rand down a path of wondering what to do about the inconsistent slugger next season. 8:00: Vikings QB Kirk Cousins spoke for the first time since Everson Griffen was re-signed by the Vikings and had a pretty short -- but smile-filled -- answer when asked about Griffen's social media posts earlier this year. You can hear the audio for yourself. 10:00: Minnesota United's Ethan Finlay joins the show and discusses a number of subjects, including: the Loons' rebound after a slow start this season; the identity of this year's team beyond "get the ball to Reynoso"; the joy and stress of being a new father; whether being born in Duluth but moving away at a young age makes Finlay "one of us"; and the Loons' fantasy football league. 28:00: A Little League World Series performance for the ages by a Sioux Falls 12-year-old.
We are back, this time with much less trivia noise! We breakdown both 2-2 draws, one felt very much like a win, the other very much like a loss! We also briefly discuss what is up with Wanchope, which MN celebrity we most want to buy into MNUFC, and whether or not Allianz will host a World Cup qualifier (Spoiler Alert, they won't)! After the break, we briefly chat about the upcoming Houston match and talk a little world soccer including a great USMNT performance and a disappointing USNWT performance!
The latest AFTN Soccer Show is out for another packed show of Vancouver Whitecaps, MLS, Canadian Premier League, and Canadian national team chat. What a week of football. What a week of emotions. It wasn't a great overall performance, but the Whitecaps showed fight to leave with a point. They need a lot more though, can Ryan Gauld provide that for them now that he's officially signed? And what other help do they need? Turning our attention to the international stage, we look at the joy of Canada's women's team getting to the gold medal match at the Olympics and the heartbreak of the Canadian men's team losing their Gold Cup semi-final to a last minute winner, plus we hear from John Herdman, Maxime Crepeau and Jonathan Osorio. Win or spend November at home. That’s where things stand as the season reaches fever pitch and the league sees it’s first coaching casualty in Chicago. On a weekend that saw the Red Bulls clinch the first spot in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, Crew SC fell just short – but not by their own doing. Ambitious winger Ethan Finlay joins the guys to talk fantasy football, Kei Kamara the alpha dog, his international future (hint: Canada is out) and Columbus’ status as the MLS Las Vegas. New York may have booked a postseason place, but they didn’t lift a trophy in Cascadia. Plus, Real Salt Lake are roaring back with the help of a man named Burrito, and Montreal and Toronto got it done with the help of their stars. In the mailbag, Rancid drummer Branden Steineckert describes how he fell in love with the beautiful game and RSL. Check back on Tuesday for the full interview. Plus, the scarf vs. jersey debate continues and listeners make a MLS Cup case for their teams.
