For the Glory KC is back with the 132nd episode of the show after an unexpected week off. Sporting Kansas City had a very busy week loaded with (frankly, ridiculous) travel. After nearly 5,000 miles, they picked up two hard fought points against St. Louis City SC and San Diego FC. The draw against their cross-state rivals definitely felt like a victory as they snatched the point from the jaws of defeat. The San Diego game was more of a slog, as though a team had travelled a ton, heavily rotated their lineup, missed one of their two Designated Players and were playing a superior opponent at home. Despite that, they still earned a draw.Sheena returns after a brief hiatus, and we work our way through both of those games as well as a brief mention of the 1-0 loss to the Portland Timbers from last week we didn't get to cover. The theme of the three games was definitely defense, villains and goalkeeping. All three get high marks as Shapi Suleymanov and Jansen Miller tortured the St. Louis fans. Pulskamp also stood on his head across all three games. And Robert Voloder may have cemented himself as the starter next to Miller at center back, with a revolving door of fullbacks playing next to them.Since our last episode, MLS also released roster compositions for all 30 MLS teams. Sporting KC have no surprises with two open international spots and the ability to add a Designated Player along with a U-22 Initiative player, or two U-22 signings. To aid in that addition this summer is $1,928,679 in General Allocation Money (GAM), of which at least $500,000 is burning a hole in their pocket and has to be spent. Also, we get into the movement of the LAFC/SKC game from a crowded week to an international break weekend. The KC Current got back to their winning ways with us taking the last week off. They beat Bay FC 4-1 before heading on the road to take out the Orlando Pride 1-0. The biggest questions coming off the victory that further cemented their first-place status is, at what cost did it come? Alana Cook, Debinha and Temwa Chawinga all left the game injured. In the Digital Crawl, we touch on a few more topics, including:SKC II slightly improving on their strugglesFormer SKC player updates on CJ Sapong, Kei Kamara and Gianluca BusioGreg Vanney gets his contract extended after the worst start to a season in MLS historyHere is a rundown of topics (and approximate start times):A Hard Fought SKC Point against San Diego - 6:36Sporting KC's big comeback vs St. Louis - 18:41A quick look at SKC vs. Portland - 48:10Sporting KC have room to spend - 52:17KC Current slip by Orlando and crush Bay FC - 1:06:28Digital Crawl - 1:14:33Upcoming GamesSKC II vs. LAFC2, Friday, May 23rd at 6:00PM CDT KC Current vs. Chicago Stars, Saturday, May 24th at 6:30PMSporting KC vs New England Revolution, Saturday, May 24th at 7:30PMAs a special gift to For the Glory KC listeners and KC Soccer Journal readers, Backheeled dot com is giving away 30 days of their amazing, independent American soccer coverage for free. FC Cincinnati put in a performance this weekend that may have been what was needed to right the ship. With goals by Evander and Valenzuela on assists by Engel and Evander, the offensive partnerships looked promising, enough so that a Brandon Vasquez penalty couldn't even spoil the party. What changes were made to the line up? How did those moves impact the tactics and flow of the game? Will we see more of this from Cincinnati? We'll answer those questions and more in this episode of Cincinnati Soccer Talk. Get your Apple MLS Season Pass. Kevin, Grayson, and The Chief soak in the vibes after calling for the exact lineup that was rolled out vs Austin and a complete performance followed. Orellano at wingback, no real defensive midfielders, and suddenly the offense is free-flowing. Noonan shakes it up and is rewarded with quick, effective passing and an offense that looked able to score at will. Dado Valenzuela is poised to be the breakout player of the year, just as everyone knew he would be. Part Two is all about the LEGEND Kei Kamara coming to FC Cincinnati, once again, to fulfill the promise of 2019. And in Part Three it's a preview of the Wednesday Toronto match! The Fire have played three games since our last show: an entertaining draw vs Messi and friends, a sloppy and crazy 3-2 loss to Cincinnati, and an humiliating blowout at the hands of Gregg Berhalter's former assistant B.J. Callaghan and Nashville SC. What's gone wrong, what's not working, and what can we conclude after 10 games? Then, the Chicago grassroots soccer community, Edgewater Castle FC President and General Manager Andrew Swanson joins the show to talk about the team's new podcast ‘Stone By Stone,' promotion and relegation and the state of the lower-division landscape. LAFC headed down to San Diego for the first time, set to take on San Diego FC in Matchday 6 of the 2025 MLS season. A disaster start was only compounded by a fatal mistake after halftime, and the boys lost 3-2. Spotting a club a 3-0 lead is never something you want to do, but it's exactly what LAFC did in just 40' in San Diego. Anders Dreyer's passing, Christopher McVey's defense (and head), and a huge flub by Hugo Lloris saw the home side race out to the 3-goal lead. LAFC clawed two back before halftime, including a brilliant strike from Artem Smoliakov, but a second yellow to Igor Jesus killed the momentum. LAFC loses to an expansion club in our first meeting for the first time, Nathan Ordaz looks great in limited action, Scarf rants about resigning Kei Kamara, and Chris Lafferty finds a new favorite player! All that and more can be yours on Episode 351! Enjoy!
Since our last show, the Chicago Fire went on a three-game road trip and returned to Chicago with a maximum nine points! Led by goal-a-game striker Hugo Cuypers, the Fire now sit tied for second place in the Eastern Conference despite continuing to deal with injuries and absences. Alex breaks down the last few weeks and what Gregg Berhalter has this team doing so right, before being joined by Joe Lowery of Backheeled and the Total Soccer Show to discuss his Hugo Cuypers stock increasing in value, Berhalter's success amid USMNT struggles, and the biggest takeaways from the first month of the MLS season.
The podcast is back and the Fire are two games into the Gregg Berhalter era! How's that going so far and what can be taken from just 180 minutes of soccer? Also, the Fire officially unveiled their brand new, state-of-the-art training center and it is pretty spectacular. Alex is joined by good friends of the show Joe Chatz and Tim Hotze for a jam packed 2025 debut.
And just like that, 2024 comes to a close with... wait, what?! Jesus Murillo gone? Ilie Sanchez gone? Kei Kamara gone? Strange things are definitely afoot in the land of Black and Gold. Here on Episode 339, Filly and Scarf take a look at all the happenings since the end of the season: every transaction, every award, every schedule update, and even a rumor or two are covered in this episode. Aaron Long is back! Jude Terry is one of our own! But man-oh-man is it going to be hard to replace the veteran presence, the leadership, the class, and the quality of Ilie, Kei, and Muri. Sit down, put your feet up, and close out your 2024, or start your 2025, with your favorite LAFC-podcasting duo, and enjoy Episode 339!
For the Glory KC is back with the 109th episode of the show. It's been quiet on the Sporting Kansas City news front, but that doesn't mean there aren't SKC related topics to discuss. We take a look at the biggest needs for Sporting KC in 2025. Obviously, the first topic of conversation was around the roster itself. There are just 19 players signed for 2025, with the Ian James announcement still pending. FWDs: Pulido, Salloi, Agada, Afrifa, Vargas, Thommy? MIDs: Radoja, Davis, Memo, Bassong DEFs: Rosero, Fernandez, Voloder, Leibold, Ndenbe, Shelton, James* GKs: Pulskamp, Schewe Beyond the roster itself, there are issues around fan experience, front office building and more to be accomplished before boots hit the field for the season. Then, we switch gears and take listener questions. One big theme was "trust" in ownership and the coaching staff to lead Sporting KC forward. Are the owners truly investing? Is Mike Burns right for the job? How has Peter Vermes remained in charge when so many other teams have moved on from their coaches? (We came up with 10 coaching changes this offseason already off the top of our heads). Then we get a little broader and talk careers in journalism/broadcasting and the state of club soccer in Kansas City. There was no KC Current news this week but, in the Q&A we did get a Vlatko Andonovski question, so they still made an appearance. In the Digital Crawl, we touch on a few topics, including: KC Comets season started perfectly! MLS Playoffs Ilie Sanchez and Kei Kamara are without a team Is the Leagues Cup format changing? USWNT results Here is a rundown of topics (and approximate start times): What are Sporting KC's biggest Needs? - 5:28 Listener Q&A - 36:11 Digital Crawl - 1:25:17 We recently turned on "Listener Support." Voice of the Black & Gold Max Bretos and co-host Steve Beitashour get right into the action by recapping a victorious Game 3 against Vancouver that once again saw Mati Bogusz rise to the moment to score the match- and series-winning goal. The win sets LAFC up for a Western Conference Semifinal showdown against another familiar Cascadian opponent in the Seattle Sounders. That momentous match is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 23 at BMO Stadium. The fellas take a step back to look at the larger playoff picture across the league and how some chaotic results in the Eastern half of the bracket have redounded to LAFC's benefit should the team reach a record-tying third straight MLS Cup Final. Finally Max and Beita discuss the handful of LAFC players who have joined up with their nations for the international break and the benefits and concerns that brings for the Black & Gold. In the second half of the show, former player turned soccer pundit for ESPN Herculez Gomez joins the show to chop it about about everything from the status of El Traffico and player development work being done around MLS to the amazing career of Kei Kamara and what's going on with the USA and Mexico in the Concacaf Nations League.

With goals from Denis Bouanga and Cristian Olivera, LAFC took control of the series and is now just one win away from advancing to the Western Conference Semifinals. Highlights include Bouanga's powerful penalty, Olivera's clinical finish, and a resilient LAFC defense. With Carlos Vela making his 2024 season debut and Kei Kamara marking history, it was an unforgettable night at BMO Stadium. Can LAFC finish the job in Vancouver? Tune in as we break down the key moments and look ahead to Game 2 on November 3rd!
Join the DIEHARDS for just $4 a month! https://www.allchgo.com/intro-offer-youtube The long-running disaster that was the 2024 Chicago Fire season has finally come to an end, culminating in an abysmal home performance over the weekend to solidify this as the worst season by record in team history. Alex Campbell is joined by Joe Chatz to briefly eulogize, before they move on to discuss comments by Fire owner Joe Mansueto and new Director of Football and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter at last Thursday's press conference. Finally, a Chicago pro men's soccer team won a playoff game… kind of. It's all happening now on the CHGO Fire Podcast.
On Episode 334, Filly and Scarf recap an absolutely unbelievable Decision Day, both at BMO and in Houston! The subs save the day in LA while a former Carsonite sinks their ship at the death! It was a roller coaster of emotions for about 15 minutes, but LAFC comes out on top in the West as we get set to kick off the Western Conference Playoffs!Things looked bleak for the first 45' for LAFC, as an early goal by Jackson Yueill, off an ill-advised pass from Eddie Segura, gave the road side a lead and meant that LAFC would need at least three on the day. Another offside goal from Giroud and an anemic first half attack (0 shots on target) sent the club into the halftime break down a goal. But in Houston, an Ezequiel Ponce goal just before the halftime whistle saw the home side take the lead, and left everything to play for at BMO!LAFC opened the second half a little better, but it was just after the hour mark that LAFC truly woke up. A Denis Bouanga banger off a great Tillman cross leveled things at home, and the reinforcements came on soon after. Kei Kamara, Eduard Atuesta, and, later, Marlon, would all factor in the win. Atuesta's first few touches were magic, as he took a great 1-2 ball from Kei and rocketed it home past Daniel to give LAFC the 2-1 lead! With Aaron Long cramping in the 80', the Carlos Vela homecoming was put on hold, as LAFC used their 5th sub to bring on Marlon for Long. Serendipity doesn't always announce itself right away, but it would take Marlon just 10 minutes to become an LAFC hero! Off a great Atuesta free kick, Marlon, running in the same channel as Chanot, got his head to the cross and flicked it past Daniel and into the back of the net to give LAFC the 2-goal advantage it needed to move into 1st in the West! With our result secure, everyone turned to their phones, and turned into Dynamo fans! Alas, hopes were dashed in the 6th minute of stoppage time, as a Puig penalty call turned into a Pec rocket, and the score was leveled at 1. With the top spot seemingly gone, LAFC had to hope for a miracle, and we got one in the form of Burbank's own Daniel Steres! An 11th-minute stoppage-time header gave Houston an improbable 2-1 win, and handed LAFC the top spot in the West. It was an unreal scene at BMO!Also on this episode, we remember jewelry made from a plane and wish our LAFC2 boys well in their first playoff match. What a night at BMO! Now, as Ilie said, "the best is yet to come!"
It's Episode 333, the number of the beast as far as Vancouver is concerned. LAFC travels up to the PNW and steals 3 points from a much-deserving Whitecaps side! Matty gets an early one, Ilie seals it late, and the boys still have Western Conference crown hopes as we meet Decision Day head-on. It took all of 32 seconds for LAFC to get on the board, the second-fastest goal in club history. David Martinez supplies a perfect pass to a streaking Mateusz Bogusz, whose deft chip eludes both defender and keeper and puts the good guys up 1. After the break, a Sergi Palencia yellow and a Sergi Palencia own goal in short succession put the West in peril, and Vancouver had plenty of other bites at the cherry. Timothy Tillman makes the save of the match, denying Damir Kreilach on the line, and LAFC headed to stoppage needed a miracle. Enter Ilie Sanchez, with some massive help from The Wunderkid, Nathan Ordaz! Nate splits 2 defenders with a sick move, finds Kei Kamara, who quickly slots it to a wide-open Ilie. Just like Aaron Long last match, the unlikely hero Ilie plays the role of savior, and LAFC is up 2-1. Thank goodness the soccer gods blinked for a second, as Brian White's header at the death struck all post and no netting, and it's LAFC with everything to play for on Decision Day.Also on this episode, Scarf does all the math and permutations for Decision Day, Filly enjoys Dodger Stadium for Game 2, and the boys wish both a former and current player happy birthday! Enjoy 333!
We're back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, MLS, CPL, and women's soccer chat and interviews, and this episode we're joined by Harjeet Johal. The Whitecaps' playoff path looks grim, with a first round match-up against one of the strong LA teams looming, and even then, possibly only if they get through a play-in game. A loss to LAFC on Sunday saw them winless in six MLS matches. We pick over the bones of that one, the emotional comments of Vanni after the game, and what it all means to the team as they head into Decision Day. We've two interviews in this episode, both with former Whitecaps players who now ply their trade with LAFC. First up is the man who sits second in the all-time scoring list for MLS, Kei Kamara. Kei chats about his return to Los Angeles where his journey to the pros really all started for him, the win over the 'Caps, and how the way he left Vancouver still doesn't sit comfortably with him. We also chat with goalkeeper Thomas Hasal about his move to LA after injury, learning under a legend like Hugo Lloris, and hopes for the future. Turning our attention to the CPL, it's going down to the wire for Vancouver, Pacific, and Valour. We look at the weekend's action, the last games coming up next Saturday, and chat with the three head coaches about it all - Afshin Ghotbi, James Merriman, and Phillip Dos Santos. All of this, plus there's a look ahead to the Whitecaps Girls Elite's Champions Cup match-up with Christine Sinclair's Portland Thorns, we chat about the women's game in Canada at domestic and international level, there's more Britpop chat and music, Kinky Machine continue their stint as our Album of the Month, and NEESKENS return in Wavelength. After weeks of smoke and rumors, it's official: Former United States Men's National Team head coach Gregg Berhalter is the Fire's new Director of Football and head coach. Is hiring someone for both jobs a smart idea? What does this mean for the Fire? What happens next? Alex is joined by Alex Calabrese of Men in Red 97 Media for this Emergency Podcast to break down the big news.

Kei shared how his journey to the US started in his beloved Sierra Leone. LAFC are the 2024 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Champions! It's a back-in-time episode, as the boys go nocturnal for the first time in quite a while, and for good reason! LAFC lifts a trophy for just the second time in club history after a 3-1 victory over a very game Sporting Kansas City side. At least a few of the demons have been exercised. The first half felt very much like a final: tense, scrappy, and neither side wanting to make the first major move. The best chance of the half came from Olivier Giroud, but both clubs would stay off the scoresheet.Just 8 minutes into the second half, LAFC would strike first! It wouldn't be a bold strike or a soaring header, but a tap-in from Olivier Giroud counts just the same, and the boys have a 1-0 lead. A lead that would last all of several minutes, as Erik Thommy slots home an easy ball after a turnover from Timmy Tillman in our own half to level it at 1. We would play a full 90 deadlocked, which means bonus soccer in the forms of two 15-minute "halves", then PK's if necessary. It would not be necessary. LAFC found a goal in each half of extra time, first off the right foot of Omar Campos and then off the head of the ageless wonder, Kei Kamara. LAFC take home the trophy amid the 3-1 victory!

The Morning Footy crew welcome in CBS Sports MLS Analyst Tom Bogert to discuss last night's US Open Cup Final between LAFC and Sporting KC. Both teams have been struggling as of late, but LA were the odds on favorite. They left it late as the game was ties 1-1 until Omar Campos slotted home the game-winner in the 102' minute. At this point, watching the Chicago Fire feels like some sort of punishment. After being obliterated by Messi-less Miami in front of 55,000 spectators and Jason Derulo, a change of venue didn't help as they lost to DC United in Bridgeview. Alex Campbell and Joe Chatz of OnTap Sports want to talk about those games as little as possible, so they take listener questions! Is there any hope for this team? Who deserves to be kept around? How long would a proper rebuild take? We try to provide some answers and optimism on the CHGO Fire Podcast.
Voice of LAFC, Max Bretos and No. 1 Co-Pilot, Steve Beitashour, pour over the team's last match, a 2-0 home loss to Houston. Beita details how to combat the "football fatigue" that some of the players may be feeling after a jam-packed summer before the guys delve into LAFC's six players who were called up to their national teams and will miss this Saturday's rematch vs. the Dynamo. How might those absences affect the team's line-up this weekend, and what's in store down a crowded final stretch to the playoffs? The fellas wish all-around good guy, Kei Kamara a happy 40th and marvel at his ability to play at such a high level, before the birthday boy himself joins the show to talk about his joy to still be chasing trophies. It's Episode 323 (shout out to everyone in the 323!), and Filly is SPICY! Hold on to your hats, folks, as Filly sounds off on a great many things. Oh, and we also talk about LAFC's historic win at Tukwila!LAFC and Seattle somehow found their way over the river and through the woods to Starfire Sports Complex for the U.S. Open Cup Semifinal showdown on turf! LAFC would produce one quality chance in the first half, off the foot of Kei Kamara, but 6'6" Jackson Ragen, not goalkeeper Andrew Thomas, would keep us scoreless into halftime. LAFC would continue to thwart Seattle while looking for daylight of their own. Substitute Mateusz Bogusz's shot would find the arm of Pedro de la Vega, which would set up Denis Bouanga on the penalty spot. The man doesn't miss, and, after a little luck and good defending kept Jordan Morris from equalizing, LAFC would take their place in the U.S. Open Cup Final, to be held at BMO in September against Sporting Kansas City! Also on this episode, pretty much everyone catches strays from Filly. Everyone from Carlos Vela to all of Seattle to those on social media doing anything less than backing LAFC to the fullest! He was ON FIRE. Join us over the next couple of weeks as we talk a bit about Houston, as our next home match AND our next away match feature the Dynamo! And, more importantly, enjoy Episode 323!
Episode 321, and FINALLY, Filly is back from gallivanting across Europe! It's so nice to have him back and to hear someone else's voice on the pod. And, oh-by-the-way, LAFC HAS QUALIFIED FOR THE CONCACAF CHAMPIONS CUP! Let's talk about it!With a chance at the Leagues Cup Final, and the aforementioned CCC spot, on the line, LAFC announced their presence with authority and left no doubt. Four goals, two on each side of halftime, and the incredible, Liga MX-beating run by Colorado was a thing of the past. You'd expect the first three goal scorers, for sure, with Denis Bouanga, Mateusz Bogusz, and Kei Kamara all finding the back of the net. But the exclamation point, provided as Lewis O'Brien opened his LAFC account, was definitely a pleasant surprise. Also on this episode, we discuss the Cristian Olivera to Toluca rumors. Say it ain't so, Kike! Enjoy Episode 321!
Hello Colorado Rapids fans and UP THE ****ING PIDS! This week on Holding The High Line, THE RAPIDS beat Club America! Rabbi and Red banter about Moïse Bombito officially going OGC Nice. Check out our special exit interview with Moïse here. Then we bask in the joy of that win over America. The game plan worked and the players executed it very well. Colorado still played like the smaller team at times. It was another 50/50 game they found a way to win. We relive the penalties heroics from Zack Steffen AGAIN. Liga MX fans are coping and maybe finally seeing the excuses MLS fans made for years during the Conca Champions. They we've got a really good Ask HTHL on comparing Chris Armas to Coach Lasso. We preview LAFC as Colorado look to get their first ever result at BMO Stadium. Kei Kamara is still there. Olivier Giroud is available. There could be no more fitting test for the Rapids than to finally go on the road to the black and gold and try and win. They've played six road games against LAFC and lost all of them. Total score 17-2. Perhaps this is the way that streak has to end? One final exorcism to make their first final since 2010? Also we do a Rapids history side quest. Here on Episode 320, LAFC heads up to Seattle to do exactly what we did three-plus weeks ago, beat the Sounders, 3-0. This time, a berth in the semis of the 2024 Leagues Cup is on the line. LAFC would start out hot, as Ryan Hollingshead got behind the defense and slotted home a 13' goal to get the Black and Gold rolling. A dozen minutes later, Kei Kamara turned back the hands of time yet again, this time with a beautiful right-footed, leaping volley that sent the bouncing shot over the outstretched arms of Stefan Frei and into the back of the net for a two-goal lead.Just 8 minutes after the halftime whistle, Denis Bouanga, who had missed a similar opportunity earlier in the match, got the long pass from his good buddy Hugo Lloris, and the lead was three. Hugo went nearly 14 years between career assists one and two, but barely 14 days between two and three! Also on this episode, Lewis O'Brien makes his debut, FC Cincinnati may be to blame for Kike Olivera not playing, and Filly is still in Europe. Enjoy Episode 320!
Here on Episode 317, we are back in action at BMO, and it's more Leagues Cup action. This time, we take on a very, very familiar foe as of late, the Vancouver Whitecaps. And boy oh boy was it a roller coaster ride!LAFC simply looked awful to start the match. Down 2-0 after 20 minutes, and playing rather uninspired football, the supporters at BMO were looking for any signs of life on the pitch; the 3252 was providing all the necessary energy off of it. Cue the dramatics! LAFC would make something out of nothing, and wait until the 87th minute to do so. Denis Bouanga would find the beautiful head of Kei Kamara, and just like that, LAFC was back in it, down 2-1. With just seconds left on the clock, Sergi Palencia's cross would find David Martinez, who taes his shot from well outside the top of the box. The bouncing ball finds the head of Mateusz Bogusz, and, completely improbably, we are level!LAFC would go on to lose in penalties, but the point we earned was enough to get us into the Round of 32! Yay us! Enjoy Episode 317!
Episode 315, and what an effort by our boys! LAFC heads into the belly of the beast, Lumen Field in Seattle, and promptly stomps the Sounders, 3-0, behind a Bouanga brace and a Bogusz banger!LAFC raced out to an early 1-0 lead as Sounders defender Nouhou was whistled for a handball in the box. Denis does his thing, burying the PK, and LAFC was off to a flying start. Another patented laser show from Mateusz Bogusz, one-timing a volley from outside the box, gave LAFC a two-goal lead before halftime. The Sounders came out roaring in the second half, dominating possession, looking dangerous, and seemingly building towards a goal. Nobody told that to Kei Kamara and Denis Bounaga, however, as a Kei long ball found Denis through the middle, on the break, for his second of the night. Completely against the run of play, LAFC was now up three. Denis could have made it four heading into stoppage, but his first touch betrayed him, and he remains one behind Chicho for the Golden Boot lead. In stoppage, massive saves from Hugo (twice!) and Sergi Palencia keep the sheet clean and bring all three points home from Seattle! Also on this episode, Filly does a shooey while Scarf proposes changes to the All Star Game. Enjoy Episode 315. This one is for Papa Scarf.

Sebastian Anderson looked good. The team managing the game state well. How about that clean sheet even with the penalty miss. Then there was the 4-1 win over CF Montreal. Calvin Harris did so well.
