Zakk Wylde kommt als Jeffrey Phillip Wieland in Bayonne, New Jersey zur Welt. Im Januar 1967. Bereits als Schulkind beginnt er, Gitarre zu spielen. Als Teenager macht er nahezu nichts anderes. So wird er Teil von lokalen Bands aus der Ecke von New Jersey, in der er lebt. 1987 erfährt er durch die Howard Stern Show im Radio, dass ein gewisser Ozzy Osbourne einen neuen Leadgitarristen sucht. Und da Zakk nicht nur den passenden Look mitbringt, sondern auch das Können, wird er das: Ozzys Gitarrist. Für ihn, gerade 20, unfassbar: "Ozzy war so etwas wie eine Märchenfigur, ein Superheld - nicht real", sagt Wylde im Gespräch. Zwischen 1988 und 2022 ist er auf sechs Studio- und drei Live-Alben von Osbourne zu hören. Seine erste eigene Band sind die stark vom Southern-Rock beeinflussten Pride & Glory, mit denen er 1994 nur ein Album veröffentlicht. Es ist der Sound, den er vom ältesten Nachbarssohn schon als Kind kennenlernt: Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, Mountain, CCR, die Klassiker eben. 1996 folgt das Soloalbum „Book Of Shadows“, das erst 20 Jahre später eine Fortsetzung bekommen wird. Auch, weil er 1998 eine weitere Band gründet, die stark von der Biker-Ästhetik inspiriert ist: Black Label Society. Von denen erscheint jüngst das zwölfte Album "Engines Of Demolition". Daneben hat der bärtige Hüne als Zakk Sabbath das Erbe von Black Sabbath auf die Bühne gebracht und zuletzt bei einer Pantera-Reunion in den Fußstapfen von Dimebag Darrell mitgemischt. Meistens dabei: seine legendäre Gibson Les Paul Custom mit dem Bullseye-Design. Der King of Pinch-Harmonics beschreibt sich selbst als „Soldier of Christ“ und hat, vermutlich, mit der Sauferei aufgehört, nachdem er 2009 wegen Blutverklumpung beinahe gestorben wäre. Mit seiner Frau Barbaranne hat er vier Kinder. Zakk Wylde opens up about Ozzy's final show, the 17 days that followed, Dimebag's unfinished recordings, and the making of Black Label Society's crushing new album Engines of Demolition. Just 17 days after the show, Ozzy passed away unexpectedly. They'd been texting memes and planning another record together right until the end. Zakk envisioned a global Back to the Beginning charity tour series. A sober Zakk and Ozzy watched their blasted crew destroy a Tokyo restaurant. Dimebag left hours of unfinished song ideas on tape for potential release. Playing Dime's solos means staying faithful — like Stevie Ray covering Hendrix. Zakk and Eddie Van Halen's amp, calling it life-altering history. Engines of Demolition was built across several years alongside the Pantera Celebration tour. Jamal ad-Dīn Abū Muḥammad Ilyās ibn-Yūsuf ibn-Zakkī better known as Nizami is considered the greatest romantic epic poet in Persian literature. His love story of Layla and Majnun inspired the Eric Clapton hit record of 1970, "Layla" and there are monuments of Nizami as far as Beijing and Rome.     Nizami was born in the modern-day Republic of Azerbaijan around 1141CE and lived at the same time as Attar, the subject of our previous episode. What more can we say about his socio-political and cultural context? Like many of the poets we have examined, details of Nizami's life is sketchy. We learn his mother was Kurdish. He was married three times. What more can we say about his personal biography? Nizami's main works are five which are collectively called the Khamsa or Panj Ganj (Five Treasures). Let's talk about them. What translations and secondary resources would you recommend on Nizami? Back from Birmingham, UK and the monumental Back To The Beginning concert, Daniella asks Barbaranne to share leaving no stone unturned. The epic sendoff of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath had no less than Rival Sons, Gojira, Halestorm, Mastodon, Alice In Chains, Pantera, GnR, Slayer and Metallica pay tribute to the originators of Metal, Black Sabbath. Ozzy did sets with the No More Tears band, including Zakk and then finished the nearly 11 hour concert with the original Black Sabbath, ending in fireworks and quite a lot of tears.
