Broadcasting from the Monsters of Rock Cruise, Eddie brings you his conversations with Zakk Wylde, Lita Ford and Night Ranger from Day 2 of the cruise. Zakk opens up about his latest album 'Engines of Demolition' and the emotional tribute song he wrote for Ozzy Osbourne. He shares stories from his current tour where he performs with Black Label Society, Zakk Sabbath, and alongside Dario Lorina's Dark Chapel. Lita discusses her time working with Ozzy Osbourne and shares that new music is on the way, and then the legendary members of Night Ranger—Jack Blades, Brad Gillis, and Kelly Keagy—sit down with Eddie for a candid conversation about their remarkable journey together. The band reflects on their early days touring with KISS, creating iconic MTV videos, and the challenges of life on the road. They discuss their continued passion for creating new music despite changes in the industry, their special symphony collaboration, and the rare brotherhood that's kept them together for over 40 years. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Zakk Wylde opens up about Ozzy's final show, the 17 days that followed, Dimebag's unfinished recordings, and the making of Black Label Society's crushing new album Engines of Demolition. Topics Include: Zakk runs on 14 pots of Valhalla coffee every single day. He was invited to Back to the Beginning well in advance. Tony Iommi, Jimmy Page, and Ritchie Blackmore are mythical heroes to Zakk. No More Tears was rehearsed but Ozzy pulled it on the day. Ozzy was giddy meeting Axl Rose — couldn't believe it was happening. Zakk watched Sabbath's final set alongside Axl Rose and Sharon Osbourne. Just 17 days after the show, Ozzy passed away unexpectedly. They'd been texting memes and planning another record together right until the end. Zakk envisioned a global Back to the Beginning charity tour series. A sober Zakk and Ozzy watched their blasted crew destroy a Tokyo restaurant. Dimebag left hours of unfinished song ideas on tape for potential release. Playing Dime's solos means staying faithful — like Stevie Ray covering Hendrix. Zakk and Eddie Van Halen's amp, calling it life-altering history. Engines of Demolition was built across several years alongside the Pantera Celebration tour. Zakk confirms BLS, Zakk Sabbath, and more Pantera shows are all coming. Jamal ad-Dīn Abū Muḥammad Ilyās ibn-Yūsuf ibn-Zakkī better known as Nizami is considered the greatest romantic epic poet in Persian literature. His love story of Layla and Majnun inspired the Eric Clapton hit record of 1970, "Layla" and there are monuments of Nizami as far as Beijing and Rome. Nizami was born in the modern-day Republic of Azerbaijan around 1141CE and lived at the same time as Attar, the subject of our previous episode. What more can we say about his socio-political and cultural context? Like many of the poets we have examined, details of Nizami's life is sketchy. We learn his mother was Kurdish. He was married three times. What more can we say about his personal biography? Nizami's main works are five which are collectively called the Khamsa or Panj Ganj (Five Treasures). Let's talk about them. What translations and secondary resources would you recommend on Nizami? And finally let's end with a sample and translation. What's up, dudes? In memory of Ozzy, Duane Bailey from Tinsel Tunes and Matt Wheeler from Resurrection Metal Radio join me to talk 1988 Headbangers Christmas! Yes, it's Christmas Eve on MTV's Headbangers Ball, and Ozzy Osbourne and Zakk Wylde are hosting the festivities. We're introduced to a slew of ‘80s metal bands, but kicking off the festivities is Ozzy himself with “Crazy Babies!” Poison, Judas Priest, Winger, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, and Guns N' Roses follow. Ozzy and Zakk have a great time introducing the videos. In fact, they even dress up in Santa hats. Ozzy even wears an odd mask and a pirate hook. Next up are videos from KISS, Hurricane, Alice Cooper, RATT, Aerosmith, and Cinderella. Ozzy suddenly appears in a picturesque Christmas fireside, but now inexplicably has on caveman feet and a club. Subsequently, videos from Lita Ford, Anthrax, Bad News (with the only Christmas song), Def Leppard, and Iron Maiden air. Finally, Hear N' Aid sang “Stars” and Headbangers Christmas concluded! Go get ‘em, boys!AC/DC singing “That's The Way I Wanna Rock 'N' Roll?” Yep. Yngwie Malmsteen performing “You Don't Remember, I'll Never Forget?” Uh huh. Sam Kinison? Sam Kinison?!?! A sad show today, remembering the life of Ozzy Osbourne. Chaz and AJ spoke with Zakk Wylde back in March, about his excitement in joining the Ozzy farewell show. (0:00) Jimi Bell was one of the very last guitarist tryouts to be considered for the band, before Zakk Wylde was the selection. Jimi was on the phone with Chaz this morning to talk about the tryout process, having dinner with Ozzy, and jamming with Zakk after watching all the other guitarist hopefuls be sent home. (5:44) Live Nation's Jimmy Koplik was on the phone to talk about Ozzy's death, the rare sell-out feat Ozzy achieved in Connecticut, and explained why Connecticut always seemed to be able to book OzzFest dates. (27:20) Tribe memeber Kelly was on the phone to talk about the live tribute to Ozzy from last night in Hartford. Wolfgang Van Halen brought the house down with a rendition of "Mama, I'm Coming Home," and the Creed tribute was so Creed. (39:39) Doc McGhee, KISS manager, was on the phone with Chaz and AJ to talk about bringing Ozzy to Russia, and his close friendship with Ozzy and Sharon. (44:10) Carmine Appice, who drummed with Ozzy, was on the phone to remember his friend and bandmate. Carmine shared a story of Ozzy immediately being smitten with a Long Island burger joint after just one visit. (53:25) Don Dokken was on the phone to talk about the Jam at the Dam coming to Connecticut this weekend, but spent most his time remembering Ozzy Osbourne. (1:01:53)
Back from Birmingham, UK and the monumental Back To The Beginning concert, Daniella asks Barbaranne to share leaving no stone unturned. The epic sendoff of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath had no less than Rival Sons, Gojira, Halestorm, Mastodon, Alice In Chains, Pantera, GnR, Slayer and Metallica pay tribute to the originators of Metal, Black Sabbath. Ozzy did sets with the No More Tears band, including Zakk and then finished the nearly 11 hour concert with the original Black Sabbath, ending in fireworks and quite a lot of tears. This Sunday, we're celebrating the graduating class of 2025—and we'd love for you to join us! Together, we'll worship, honor our students, and hear a message from Zakk Uhler, our Director of Family Ministries, rooted in Matthew 27:41–54 (ESV).
