https://bennettftomlin.com/2021/07/17/a-history-of-tether-and-bitfinexs-audits-attestations-memos-and-letters-both-promised-and-actual/ Amidst all the confusion surrounding Tether and Bitfinex it can be difficult to keep track of what they have actually provided in terms of audits, attestations, and other documents to support their contentions. Here I will summarize, but the important note that needs to be included at the top is that both Bitfinex and Tether once hired an auditor, but neither ever completed the audit. Ever since Tether was founded they have promised to provide a full financial audit. It feature prominently in their whitepaper and on their website for years. They have never provided this audit, but have provided a variety of other documents meant to convince the public that they had sufficient backing for the tethers in circulation. In March of 2015 Tether and Factom announced (archive) they had formed a partnership to provide greater transparency into Tether's holdings. The partnership never provided any additional transparency into Tether or its operations. In August of 2016 Bitfinex promised (archive) to provide a full financial and security audit after they were hacked. They initially announced that Ledger Labs was hired to perform both. No audit from Ledger Labs was ever released. This was likely in part due to the fact that Ledger Labs was not able to provide financial audits. In May of 2017 Bitfinex announced (archive) they had engaged Friedman LLP out of New York to audit them. As of today in 2021 we have yet to get an update from Bitfinex on the status of this audit. In September of 2017 Tether announced (archive) that they had engaged Friedman LLP out of New York to audit them. This audit would never occur, we would eventually get an update from a Tether spokesperson saying the relationship dissolved, citing the “excruciatingly detailed procedures”(archive) that the auditor wanted to undertake. Also in September of 2017 Tether released from previous attestations from a small accounting firm in Taiwan called TOPSUN. These were monthly attestations attesting to Tether having sufficient backing for the end of the month from December 2016 through March 2017. Strangely these were not completed at the end of the respective months but were all completed on May 23rd 2017. (Strangely approximately two weeks after they announced that Friedman had been brought on to audit Bitfinex) Read more... https://bennettftomlin.com/2021/07/17/a-history-of-tether-and-bitfinexs-audits-attestations-memos-and-letters-both-promised-and-actual/
- After managing the MEI from 1999 to 2006, Michel Kelly-Gagnon was President of the Conseil du patronat du Québec from March 2006 to December 2008. At the beginning of his career, he practiced law and then became an entrepreneur in the field of customized training in business. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Commission for Occupational Health and Safety (CSST) from 2006 to 2009. He was one of six Quebecers honored by the 2008 list of 40 top performing Canadians under the 40 years™. The winners were chosen from over 1,100 nominees. Mr. Kelly-Gagnon sits on several boards of directors, including the Canada Foundation for Innovation, which provides hundreds of millions of dollars each year to fund Canada's research infrastructure. He has been back at the head of the MEI since January 2009. - Richard Jacobs discovered Bitcoin in 2013, by reading an article in the New York Times, but dismissed the idea as a curiosity (like many). Fast forward to October 2016, when he started a podcast called “Future Tech Podcast” – the goal was and is to learn about ‘round-the-corner' new technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence, 3D printing, stem cells, regenerative medicine, Bitcoin and blockchain (of course), and more. Since October 2016, Richard has interviewed 400+ different companies and consultants, 200 of which are in the Bitcoin / Ethereum / blockchain space. Richard also attends a weekly local Austin, Texas Bitcoin meetup, sponsored by Factom. He is now a crypto-enthusiast, and small-time hodler. In February of 2017, Richard joined Bitcoin.com to help run their podcast: Bitcoin – the internet of money. After interviewing 200 bitcoin / blockchain companies (and counting), Richard's fascination with the industry had grown to a point where he had to “get the information out of his head” and into the hands of other crypto enthusiasts (like you, the reader). Richard is currently planning and hosting The Bitcoin, Ethereum & Blockchain Superconference, to be held in Dallas, Texas, February 16, 17 & 18, 2018. For more info, visit www.BitcoinSuperConference.com or email organizer@bitcoinsuperconference.com Richard has also partnered with several marketing veterans, and successful startup founders to build a team of 48 people behind his blockchain-focused business development consultancy firm, Blockchain Edge. At the time, North Charleston was ranked the 8th most dangerous city in America. Before becoming a police officer, he served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves. Davis realized the underground market created by drug prohibition has led to a number of negative unforeseen consequences. This realization came to him while patrolling a notorious hotbed of illicit activity nick-named “4-way”. There he saw kids being recruited by older gang members to sell drugs, knowing full well what kind of danger that put them in. Officer Davis understood that so long as a demand for drugs persisted, there would be a supply. So long as that supply remains illegal, children will continue to be exploited by criminals. Paul Snow, CEO, and Co-Founder of Factom sat down with us at the Bitcoin, Ethereum & Blockchain Superconference 2018 to offer his insight on what the blockchain is capable of today and what it may be able to do down the line. Factom, is a blockchain technology company focused on data management and security. The key is that the protocol is built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain, meaning it is decentralized and not run by any one person. This makes it impermeable to being shut down or hacked. Factom's focus is on developing software making it impossible to change the past, making it very beneficial for individuals and businesses who seek a way to make data verifiable and unchangeable. "We see a future world where fraud, corruption, and forgery are a thing of the past. We believe in keeping private data private and securing the world's wealth because privacy and possession of property are basic human rights … Factom
Traditional forms of auditing are time-consuming, prone to error and unable to capture and evaluate 100 percent of a company's data. ULedger is offering a solution that allows companies to obtain a transparent, non-forgeable and mathematically immutable trail of every single financial transaction or event that occurs, including the exchange of company emails, pictures, documents, and contracts. ULedger is accomplishing this by underpinning a company's existing technology infrastructure and database with blockchain technology. Unlike other blockchains such as Factom, ULedger uses a stateless protocol, meaning that it uses multiple independent blockchains and associated nodes in order to certify transactions. This method not only increases efficiency and scalability, but also increases the integrity of data; the timestamping and hashing of events is done by the individual nodes, rather than by ULedger. ULedger is already helping several major companies maintain transparency and proof of regulatory compliance. Josh Mclver discusses a variety of topics, including how ULedger's approach is particularly important for IOT transactions and edge computing, and how the application of this blockchain technology will enhance the quality and reliability of machine learning. Tune in to learn more, and visit uledger.co.
On tonight's episode of "The Crypto Show," Rod from Dash Brazil and Brian Deery, Chief Scientist at Factom, join us in studio while we talk to Andrew Poelstra, Pieter Wuille and Benedikt Bunz through Internet magic boxes. We discuss zero-knowledge proofs in all their varieties, details, and implementations. We discuss the differences between snarks, starks, and bullet proofs, their various advantages and trade-offs, and what problems each is most suitable for solving. Toward the end Benedict shares some quick info on the cryptographic material on which they are working at Stanford and gives credit to those whose work became the foundation for their "bulletproofs" work.
On tonight's episode of "The Crypto Show," We talk to Lyn Ulbricht in the first hour about the progress in Ross's appeal and about recent activities that she's been up to. In the second hour, Brian Deery of Factom introduces us to Sam Yilmaz and Michael Hathaway of Windmill Enterprises to discuss their data-management platform.
One of the biggest problems with the mortgage industry is that in order for a mortgage to be finalized, hundreds of documents need to be validated by a third-party–hiring an auditor to do this is costly, and can take up to 45 days for each mortgage. Factom Harmony was designed to solve this problem, by storing and validating these documents on the blockchain. This makes documents quickly and simply auditable by any third party, and can easily alert the necessary people when documents are missing, which will ultimately reduce the cost of getting a mortgage, and can lead to more people being approved for mortgages. David also discusses what he sees as the adoption trends of blockchain technology by large enterprises and government agencies, crossovers to other industries, and what trends we might see in 2018. Factom will be present at the Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Blockchain Superconference in Dallas, Texas February 16-18, and David gives us a sneak peek at what he will discuss at the conference, including the power of blockchain to decentralize enterprises and industries that are traditionally centralized, and give us some real-world use cases. For more information, visit www.factom.com.
On tonight's episode of "The Crypto Show," we interview none other than Craig Wright! Brian Deery from Factom joins us as a cohost to ask the tough technical questions (and not so tough personal and inside-joke questions). We discuss scalability, lightning network, sidechains, segwit, the future of Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin Cash, economics and banking, the existing precedent for many of Bitcoin's supposed innovations, the necessity for commercialization and profit-driven technologies and networks, and so much more. A true honor and pleasure of an interview.
On tonight's episode of "The Crypto Show," Jay Smith, Chief Marketing Officer at Factom, and Brian Dearie, Chief Scientist at Factom, come on to discuss the latest goings-on at Factom. Jay Smith relates his experience as one of the respondents during a Factom AMA. The two also give us a taste for Paul Snow's recent and second appearance before Congress, although the details remain to be conveyed by Paul Snow himself upon his next appearance on the show. In the second hour, Brian discusses Bitcoin forks, Bitcoin scalability, Blockstream, and the nature and future of Bitcoin.
On tonight's episode of "The Crypto Show," Chief Architect at Factom, Inc., and CEO of the Factom Foundation Paul Snow joins us to discuss the 3rd Annual Texas Bitcoin Conference, recent developments at Factom, ICOs and coins, and the ongoing "Bitcoin Drama," as well as the Austin Bitcoin meetup. Great show!
The fourth annual Texas Bitcoin Conference is just around the corner, slated for October 28-29 in Austin, Texas. "I think this is a period of great innovation, and people are looking to see how to use the blockchain to solve real problems…and how to take part in such a way that…when cryptocurrency explodes, they've got a roll, they've got a piece of it. So a lot of this conference is going to be focused on that, and on the technology, the opportunities, and how to use cryptocurrencies as a store of value," says Snow. But he was sure to add that the topics won't shy away from current controversies, but will address them head on: what does Bitcoin Cash mean for Bitcoin, what does SegWit 2x mean, and what is the roadmap going forward? * Tune in to hear Snow discuss more, including the following: * Some of the speakers and sponsors that will be attending * Insights and accomplishments that have come out of conferences from previous years * The different types of workshops that will be available, and the "20-20-20" format of the conference * How to find out more details (and where to get discount codes!)
Brian Deery, Chief Scientist at Factom, returns to the podcast to offer his insight on a variety of topics, including atomic swaps and centralized versus decentralized exchanges. "Decentralized exchanges are badly needed…lower fees… higher liquidity…the absence of surveillance…political neutrality…and greater security," says Deery. So, why haven't decentralized exchanges already been widely adopted? What's stopping them from taking hold in the crypto world? Should people be putting their trust in centralized exchanges? Deery pulls from a wealth of knowledge to provide in-depth answers to all of these questions and more. Tune in to hear Deery discuss more on the following: * Exchange issues: including Mt. Gox, BTC-e, Bittrex, and ShapeShift * How exactly atomic swaps work, and why they are necessary in order for decentralized exchanges to work * The New York Agreement and political neutrality
On tonight's episode of "The Crypto Show," we talk in studio with "Dances With Bitcoin," a.k.a., Brian Dearie, Chief Science Officer at Factom, and David Johnston, Chairman of Factom. They and Danny, who is back as well for a few days before he returns give more aid, describe their relief efforts down at the Texas coast after Hurricane Harvey, with some very interesting stories about their experiences. Brian also briefly discusses a special Bitcoin satellite technology that is being developed. We also get a call from Steven, a member of the Texas Guard, who discusses their relief efforts as well
With so many other tokens in the cryptocurrency space, why is there such a buzz surrounding the recent Bitcoin Cash hard fork? A high-energy climate seemed to immediately surround it, but why? David Johnston from Factom believes it has to do with the existence of three distinct communities: "First, there are those that absolutely are ardently opposed to SegWit. For whatever reason, they believe it's different from the original vision of Bitcoin….and then you've got a community that's very dedicated to avoiding hard forks and taking what they see as risky behavior, and I would say that's the Bitcoin Core folks. But there's another community that people don't talk about, and I believe when Eric Voorhees says this is the silent majority." Johnston argues that this silent majority favorably views both SegWit and bigger blocks, making them less "emotionally or ideologically consumed with one particular solution being the be-all and end-all." However, not everyone agrees. Johnston is joined by fellow Factom associates Brian Deery and Paul Snow for a lively and in-depth discussion on this topic and many more. Deery, Johnston and Snow also discuss: The effect of the split between Ethereum and Ethereum Classic, and what it might indicate about the split between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash The prospect of North Korea or Russia mining Bitcoin for hard cash, and the problems that could ensue The distinction and significance of two fundamentally different definitions of Bitcoin Speculation on how Bitcoin's hash rate will be allocated (if 95% of the hash power doesn't go with Bitcoin Core, will mining power be lost?)
On tonight's episode of "The Crypto Show," our guests in studio include "Dances With Bitcoin" (a.k.a., Brian Deary, CSO of Factom) and Jimmy Song, veteran crypto developer with Paxos. We discuss the upcoming Bitcoin Cash hardfork, its history, and its diverse implications. We also briefly touch upon the Segwit2x fork coming in November. Complex but fascinating theoretical discussions about the future of Bitcoin
When you're dealing with huge amounts of data, it's a lot more efficient to have an index to find what you're looking for. Essentially, that's how Factom works. David Johnston explains. "At a high level, what Factom does is provide a data layer on top of the Blockchain… when I say a data layer, I mean Factom enables people and companies to secure huge amounts of data—we're talking millions or billions of records—publish them in Factom." Doing this, Factom leverages the security of the Blockchain for private data. Since going live in 2015, Factom has secured 100 million records. Hit play to learn more about Factom. Subscribe, review. And if you can, consider donating some Bitcoin to the cause. Every little bit helps.
On tonight's episode of "The Crypto Show," "Dances With Bitcoin," a.k.a., Brian Deary, CSO of Factom, sits with us in studio to talk with Skype-in guest and software engineer Jameson Lopp. The topic for discussion is Craig Wright's recent speech. Brian Deary gives us a brief history of Craig Wright and Bitcoin, and then he has several clips from that speech and several pre-written questions to present to Jameson to get his take on Craig Wright's assertions during that speech. An interesting question-and-answer session ensues, and Jameson has some very enlightening responses.
On Tonight's episode of "The Crypto Show," Danny has returned to Denver and reunited with Matt Monsour of "Ink It Over." Our guests in studio are "Dances With Bitcoin," a.k.a., Brian Deary, Chief Scientist of Factom, and Marco Pierbaum, formerly of Coinvoice and currently with the development team of Decred (decred.org). Matt cracks us up and informs us that his new Bitcoin/Dash ATM is having some difficulty with respect to the set-up process, but that Matt will have a tech buddy of his assist in getting it fully operational. We then discuss a little about the cannabis industry and Ethereum and crypto. Marco regales us with the details behind the cryptocurrency project "Decred," going into detail concerning its voting operations. Brian asks many pointed questions concerning the project, and we barely get a chance to discuss Ethereum. This show ends up being a lot of fun while being highly informative about a powerful crypto creeping below the surface that many might be aware of but probably should be keeping an eye on.
The rise of the cryptocurrency sector and Bitcoin especially, is one of the most exciting advances of the last seven years. What lies behind these incredible developments and what changes might we see in the coming years? In this episode, Piotr provides insights in the origins of Bitcoin and learn what makes it such an innovative piece of programming. You'll also discover where Bitcoin's limitations lie and how the next generation of cryptocurrencies are building up and improving the Bitcoin protocol. Finally, you'll learn what's likely to lie ahead for Bitcoin and its competitors and how steady growth in the sector may see the increasing use of cryptocurrencies by large corporations and, one day, even nation states. Piotr Piasecki has been involved with the cryptocurrency community since 2011 and completed his Master's thesis on Bitcoin security in 2012. Since then, he's worked to develop a cryptocurrency exchange, and run his own startup. He currently works for Factom as a Senior Developer, runs a number of websites dedicated to cryptocurrency, and is a moderator on the most popular Bitcoin subreddit. Here's a glance at what you'll learn: Why Satoshi Nakamoto might very well be a single programmer rather than a team of developers How scaling issues mean that Bitcoin is gradually losing its hold on the sector. How "crypto 2.0" systems like Ripple are starting to gain real attention by performing multi-currency, international transactions at a fraction of the time or cost of mainstream banks.
As you may already know, Bitcoin requires an ever increasing amount of proof of work, as more and more computers are working on the problem of securing the BitCoin BlockChain. Extremely-difficult-to-compute hashes take up a huge amount of computing power in the BitCoin ledger, making them some of the most secure data structures in the world. "And yet," says Paul Snow of FactomTM, "despite the massive amount of security that the coin has, the ledger itself is only one megabyte every ten minutes." To secure data, FactomTM was started up in Austin TX. They've been live with the FactomTM protocol since September 2015. Paul Snow explains how it works. "The idea of FactomTM is to provide a general purpose data-layer secured by the Bitcoin BlockChain… Basically, the data-layer exists to prove the data integrity of information that's being exchanged via various applications." People who run the protocol are rewarded every month with FactomTM tokens. This incentive keeps the program running. The tokens also function as an anti-spam mechanism, "to prevent people from just throwing trash into the data-layer." To hear more about how FactomTM is operating in the BitCoin space, hit play. And be sure to subscribe, review, and donate BitCoins if you're able. Every little bit helps as we endeavor to produce and share quality content.
Factom's Chief Scientist, Brian Deery returns with a new Future Tech Podcast and this time, we don't talk about Factom at all. Brian talks about bigger things in the Bitcoin universe like ASIC Boost, Block Size debate, history of Bitcoin itself and much more. Brian's knowledge about Blockchain technology and the Bitcoin Blockchain can be overwhelming, even to experienced listeners, but this interview is well worth listening to, if you want to increase your knowledge in this industry. So make sure to listen to it and subscribe to the podcast. Keep donating Bitcoins to Future Tech Podcast so we keep bringing you the stuff you love and want to know more about.
Tonight we sit down with Anthem & Cindy Blanchard, Andrew Yashchuk and John Ferguson. Anthem, Cindy and Andrew join us to discuss their new venture Anthem Gold (http://AnthemGold.com) which is a Gold pegged crypto set to be released in short order. ( https://bnktothefuture.com/pitches/anthemgold/landing ) Andrew is also a part of the project as well as a key member of the Factom team and discusses Factom Harmony as well a new tool for the Mortgage Industry. Our good friend John Ferguson of the "Technology And Choice podcast on LTB Network joins in as a welcome member of the conversation.
Tatiana Moroz joins the show to talk about the sensationalized hit piece "American Kingpin" an intentionally deceptive take on Silk Road creator Ross Ulbricht. Then Tiana Laurence of Factom and author of "Bitcoin for Dummies" discusses her new book and her work in the Blockchain space. Brian Deery also of Factom joins in on the discussion.
Factom™, based in Austin, Texas, is a distributed, decentralized protocol layer running on top of Bitcoin that allows data of any kind to be memorialized, anchored, time-stamped, and cryptographically secured using Bitcoin's blockchain and tremendous network hashrate. In addition to these benefits, Factom allows the storage of data extremely efficiently, due to its use of Merkle Trees. Brian Deery, Factom's Chief Scientist, discusses the motivation and mission of Factom, according to Brian, Paul Snow, and others involved in the company. Brian's wealth of knowledge about blockchain technology and the Bitcoin Blockchain can be overwhelming, even to experienced listeners, but this interview is well worth listening to, if you want to further your knowledge in this industry.
Tonight Tiana Lawrence and Brian(Dances with Bitcoin) Deery join the show to talk about the Gates Foundation Grant to Factom and how it will be implemented in Third World countries to keep track of medical records. We also take BitcoinTalk forum questions and much more.
