With a focus on vinyl releases, for the collectors, Spandau20 has lately also focused on its label nights, with showcases at Fabric, Bassiani and many others. The label's 10th release features 10 tracks that epitomise the musical diversity of Spandau20 and the progressive musical mindset of its roster, calling on the label favourites and Spandau natives to deliver brand new and exciting music. This special release even features one track that all artists have worked on together: ‘Come Closer', a swarming, slithering beginning featured as the VA's opener. Its barely coherent female vocal echoing amidst a cacophony of demon-like effects. The chilling ambience captured at the offset transcends into the first full length track by Elli Acula, ‘Floating Eyes', a cur characterised by an authoritative, pounding bass featuring calculated percussive rolls and metallic overtones to make for a face-scrunching opener to this devilish collection of works. FJAAK follow for the first of twin cameo appearances, partnering up with fellow live supremo and hardware aficionado KiNK. On ‘Overbridge' the trio deliver a cavernous, rolling number driven by a deep thrumming bass in addition to a razor-edged lead synth, and pulsating technopattern. Dajusch is known for incorporating his years of classical study in with his immersive musical style – and with his VA effort the Berlin native neatly showcases this. Easing the energy slightly, ‘Move' escalates from its warm, melodic intro into rumbling goliath of a beat comprising a looping, slew of gassy harmonics. The momentum of the release shifts considerably with the introduction of acutely versatile producer, DJ and sound artist Claus. The artist from Spandau leans his track ‘Bloomscroll' towards sparse, dubby sonics in which he intricately ties together to form churning, burgeoning soundscape. FJAAK jolt proceedings back into the techno groove with their signature blend of arresting sub-bass and reverberating rhythms, which come thick, fast and heavy on ‘Jackfruit'. The abstract wonder of Anna Z's broken-beat like stylings is fully explored on ‘Icy Liq'. It's outlandish and amorphous in its execution, causing a clattering percussive chaos that's choicely pieced together by the modular-extraordinaire. Nikk stealthy moves into breaks territory with his track ‘Down In The Shadows', packing a trap-like snare with an acid-flecked melody and dawn-breaking, dream-like textures. The penultimate track on the VA is ‘Tufted'. J.Manuel expertly employs a chorus of robot-like sonics that course through a short-circuiting low-end to produce a pacy, inescapable journey via a whirling, merciless beat. He is joined by the legendary producer Tobi Neumann for their menacingly ambient number titled ‘Fennec.' In parts a nod to UK dubstep, the duo concocts a fierce admixture of styles bolstering tribal-like components with industrialised overtones and methodically crafted drum-fills.

The 250th edition of the Four Four Magazine Local Selection is here, and we are ecstatic to showcase the Drogheda-based DJ and producer Hunteryx as the latest entry to the series. Find yourself encapsulated by his distinct style which stems from the house and techno era of the 90s and 00s. Having burst onto Ireland's techno scene over the past 12 months, Hunteryx has impressed a range of dancers, DJs and producers alike with his fast-paced, nostalgia-driven discography taking inspiration from the golden age of dance music. Gathering support from the likes of Yasmin Gardezi, Skin On Skin and Shampain during this short span of time. Constantly improving in every way, Hunteryx found himself making his festival debut this summer at Otherside's One In The Woods with Research and Slither while earning lucrative support slots for Sunil Sharpe, Fjaak and DJ Plant Texture too. This recording is a fine display of where Hunteryx finds himself stylistically at the moment. Quick, snappy mixing as he bounces between tracks with groove at its core. Elements of funk can also be heard throughout, fused with bumping basslines and vivacious vocals. If you are looking for a feel-good, funky midweek soundtrack, then look no further. "It's a dream to share a passion with your best friend." The German duo talk about life on the road and writing their first album in six years. Together, Felix Wagner and Aaron Röbig make up the dynamic duo FJAAK. As one of Germany's best-known nightlife exports, they've earned a reputation for being techno's "boy band," gracing the stages of festivals and clubs all over the world for the last ten-plus years. Wagner and Röbig met in Spandau, an area just outside of Berlin, when they were both still in school. Equally interested in music (especially hip-hop), they started working on beats together alongside two other friends. The four-person group turned into FJAAK, and when they all moved to the city centre together after finishing their studies, they started living collectively and touring the project, achieving traction quickly. FJAAK is now just a duo—the group dwindled from four people to three, and then, in 2019, to just Röbig and Wagner. They claim they're closer to soulmates than friends; they know everything about each other and seem so in tune as to be almost telepathic. "The super power we've evolved over the years is to live a harmonic life together," Wagner said. In this RA Exchange, Röbig and Wagner talk about navigating through life with someone by their side, their thoughts on equality and meritocracy in the music industry, how they work together in the studio, their record label and their new album, FJAAK THE SYSTEM, which came out in May. Listen to the episode in full. This episode was recorded and filmed at Pirate Studios.

We've got a heavy-hitting techno weapon from DAVE ERA to soundtrack the sunshine. Slamming bass drums, rave-soaked synth lines, and catchy vocals make this an instant dancefloor tool. DAVE ERA also known as David Shortt, is a Galway-based DJ/Producer. He co-owns Devoid Collective which aims to bring a refreshing take on dance music culture in the West of Ireland. He is slo a resident of A Collective in his hometown of Athlone. David has refined his sound over the last few years, bringing a fresh touch to his music, while remaining faithful to his roots which are embedded within the traditional aspects of house, techno, and rave. His sound is both raw & banging yet euphoric and melodic as he leans on uplifting melodies, breaks, stabs, and direct 909 power. Previous releases on Four Four, Zone Focus, Verve, Houz, CNTRL, and Rave Residence have cemented his name as an emerging producer with a distinct dancefloor-centered sound. His tracks have been supported by heavy-weight names such as Trym, Franck, Fjaak, Rebuke, and Ewan McVicar, further vindicating his dedication to his craft. DAVE ERA's latest offering steers into harder territories as he references vintage rave techno, with the use of punchy hardcore stabs, breakbeats, and slamming kick drums. This is a no-messing rave techno affair as DAVE ERA delivers a punishingly tough techno tool, with trickles of inspiration from modern stalwarts FJAAK & KETTAMA coming through. Today we premiere new rolling techno coming from straight from Research residents Aeron XTC & Taint for Free Download. The Dublin based DJs and producers showcase a blistering locked groove that leans on trippy soundscapes and thunderous low-end power. Research residents and co-owners Aeron XTC and Taint are two of Dublin's most seasoned techno DJs, having played in most venues across the capital as well as being festival favourites, the pair live and breathe techno music through every aspect of their life. Alongside playing regular show's together across Index, Farrier & Draper, Wigwam, Cellar, AVA Festival, Electric Picnic, Life Festival and more, the pair have been busy crafting a unique sound within the studio. The duo's workflow both behind the booth & within the studio complements each other greatly, each adding their own flavour to a unified sound which oozes out in an oddly satisfying yet contradictory manor. Having respectively played alongside some of the titans of the techno scene including; Karenn, Paula Temple, Perc, FJAAK, SPFDJ, Blawan and many more, the pair are well versed in the art of warming up a room – an often forgotten art of DJing in Dublin City. Their latest offering comes in the form of a ferocious loop driven slice of Dublin techno. The pair showcase an uncompromising taste of dynamic and rhythmic techno, that growls from the belly up. Intricate synth swells snarl through the mix as they play off a mind-bending lead sequence to nauseating effect. This is proper loop-driven techno, that packs a punch relentless flurry of punches. Imagine growing up near Berlin, getting into dance music, going to Berghain for the first time and getting your mind blown by techno. Then, ten years later, you become a resident DJ at the fabled club. Not many people—any people?—can claim this story, but for Fadi Mohem, what would be so many DJs' dreams became a reality. After getting his 2017 debut 12-inch Reckless in the hands of all the right people in Berlin, Mohem established a bold, bouncy techno sound with releases on Modeselektor's Seilscheibenpfeiler, Ben Klock's Klockworks and FJAAK's SPANDAU20, pretty much the cream of the crop of modern techno. Now, this year, he's becoming one of Berghain's newest residents, alongside other exciting names like Sedef Adasï and Naty Seres (and Lakuti upstairs at Panorama Bar). As heard on his recent collaborative with Ben Klock, Mohem has modern techno down to a science, thanks to a combination of reverence for the old-school and clever rhythmic touches, like the irresistible snare pattern on "Prefix." His RA Podcast sounds like what you might expect from a new generation of Berghain resident: aerodynamic, heavy and, honestly a little midtempo compared to a lot of other young techno DJs. It's the sound the club has made world-famous, with cuts from Reeko, Heiko Laux and Truncate, plus some special moments from aya, DJ Deeon and Petar Dundov. It takes a certain kind of DJ to get to this hallowed place, and Fadi Mohem deserves it. @fadimohem Read more: https://ra.co/podcast/842

While cities are coming back on line again, it is wise to keep that distance for now to avoid deeper problems. It's really not a choice but a necessity. Next podcast REDM011 coming up. You help us file this one, tell us what you'll call it when you hear it.
