Deeply entrenched in the underground deep house music scene for more than 25 years since the early 90's, Jenifa Mayanja staked her claim in New York and paid her dues the old fashioned way.  Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Mayanja's profile has maintained a coveted underground buzz earning her a revered place in the house community and a reputation for being an innovative, fearless and respected musical ambassador for house music culture and for women in the music business.  While other DJs place value on mass exposure, Jenifa Mayanja's DJ ethos is about introduction & preservation of house music culture, while injecting love and the craft of djing back into the game. She has played at premier venues like Panorama Bar, Fabric London, Lux Lisbon, Rex Club while mixing it up with gigs at beloved events like “Freerotation”, Djoon, “Kala Festival” and at Picnik Montreal appearing in a Boiler room event. Currently Jenifa holds a monthly residency at Public Records in New York called “Back to the Deep” playing alongside several luminaries such as Wajeed, JT Donaldson, Kyle Hall, Scott Grooves and Lady Monix. As a label owner, Jenifa is the creator of  Bumako Recordings label, started in 2007 which introduced the world to Jenifa's signature naturalistic deep house sound. Jenifa Mayanja was also part founder of the now defunct Sound Warrior Records, the label dedicated exclusively to releasing music by other women producers.  The uniqueness of her production aesthetic has seen Jenifa as a sought after remixer and guest producer for artists such as, Seb Wildblood, CC Disco, Conclave, Lauren Ritter, Coloring Lessons and Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange for SecretSundaze in addition to her own releases which include three albums. In the last couple of years, Jenifa has decided to bring her experience and knowledge to others through first educational initiatives, then formally introducing a mentoring and coaching program called “The Music Life Mentor” that works with music creatives at all levels to overcome mental and practical roadblocks to success. https://www.instagram.com/jenifamayanja MARI ELLA --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dancetothemusic/support

Paris is rarely cited (somewhat unfairly) as one of the key cities of electronic music, but the influence of French musicians is absolutely huge. You know the names, and you definitely know the tracks. But there's a lot more to it than Daft Punk and Justice. Chloé Thévenin has been a key figure in Paris for the last two decades, as resident at the hugely important night Le Pulp, and at Rex Club, while also developing a reputation as a highly technical producer operating in different styles and in collaboration with a range of musicians. We discuss all of the above, plus delving into her journey as a musician from beginnings in the Paris club scene in the early 90s, recent developments in AI and spacial audio, and the cultural importance of clubs in the development of electronic music and culture. This is a good one, and you're going to enjoy it! If you're into what we're doing here on the pod then you can support the show on Patreon! There are two tiers - "Solidarity" for $4 a month, which features regular bonus podcasts and extra content. And "Musicality" which for a mere $10 a month gets you all the music we release on Hotflush and affiliate labels AND other music too, some of which never comes out anywhere else. Plus there's also a private area for Patreon supporters in the Hotflush Discord Server... but anyone can join the conversation there in the public channels, so please do! We've got some more 90's inspired techno to kick off our first premiere of the day. Young techno spearheads Darzack & Oposition team up to bring the funk back to French techno with their collaboration ‘3 Things', which is jam packed with rolling basslines, tribal percussion and blasting brass samples. Théo Rocca, better known as Darzack, is a pioneer in a new generation of techno producers in France. He has previously has released on Take Hit Records, VOLPHONIE, and his Maison Beryl imprint. The young artist's debut full-length record sees the DJ/producer consolidate his musical vision across a double LP after making appearances at festivals Panoramas and Les Transmusicales and enjoying a residency at Rex Club in Paris. Across ‘Rhizom', Darzack delivers ten tracks, each created with a different collaborator, with Electric Rescue, 14Anger, ZPKF, Öspiel, Mmork and more contributing to the release. Each track displays a common theme of irresistible rhythmic grooves and intricate, detailed textures underpinned by firm industrial atmospherics. The album is a precise and direct vision of hard-hitting techno from one of the genre's finest upstarts. Positioning himself on the darkest side of techno without making the slightest concession, Darzack's thrilling musical identity is as rebellious as it is meticulous. “People on the techno circuit are often a bit too insular during the creative process, which is one aspect that I don't much enjoy… That's why I wanted to invite other artists I really like to contribute to my album. Some of them I've been dancing to since I was a teenager, like Electric Rescue; while others, who are younger, I want to support.” – Darzack ‘3 Things' showcases Darzack's ability to lean away from industrious atmospheres as he collaborates with Oposition on a funk fuelled peak time hit. Swinging tribal percussion is met with an amalgamation of vocal samples, and brass sections which are delicately layered for ultimate party vibes. This is for the 90's techno crew. Happy 1 Year Anniversary to the Ashes with Ash Podcast! So, I watched the movie Big Fish recently, or should I say, re-watched, because it's such a beautiful movie, but it had been a long time since I watched it and I swear I get a new lesson out of it every single time I experience this movie. This glorious movie is about storytelling, he explains that stories live on forever, passed down from generation to generation, and with this, sometimes the story changes or it's not interesting enough to ever be passed on, memories being lost forever. The thought of this broke my heart. But then I thought of this podcast, and all of you, and I realized that I have this platform to not only share these stories with our community, but I have a place for these stories to live on forever. I know we talked about this in one of my episodes but so many people dis on people that make podcasts because “everyone does it” Well, it makes sense why everyone does it! Its such a great way to tell your story and store it somewhere safe to live on and be passed down for generations. I highly recommend you watch Big Fish, then come share your story with me, change your story with me to express how it made you feel, not just the facts and details, embellish with me and lets live on forever through our stories. Thank you all so much for listening and all of my new friends that have joined me on this incredibly rewarding journey - I love you all! And I had the perfect opportunity to start season 2 of Ashes with Ash at my favorite spot - Barclay Rex. The New York Pipe Club all gathered in the private lounge to have a smoke with friends, and luckily, I brought my podcast gear just in case someone wanted to interview! It turned out that I was sitting with a few great people, having awesome conversation, then paused to ask if we could record this conversation! Just chatting about smoking and pipes and fine liquor, I was thinking, I love this! The perfect lounge experience ambiance and conversation at in the Rex Club was the perfect anniversary gift I could possible have gotten! Today we have my friend Dimitri, the pipe expert, and his two lovely friends that wish to remain anonymous, and my instagram friend (now real human friend) Richard who just happened to be in town, he came to meet me at Barclay Rex and I immediately just handed him the microphone and thats how we had our first in person conversation hahaha Thanks again, everyone - I hope you all enjoy --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Get ready for an intese hour of music with the ninth guest in our "Multiverse of Music" @oliverhuntemann . Myths abound in the north when it comes to techno ground zero, and they refuse to go away. Oliver Huntemann is one of a handful of children of the north who, for what seems like an eternity, add an element of credence to the mythology. He does not, of course, live in a snowy forest or at the edge of the polar oceans. The sun does, on occasion, shine down on Hamburg. Oliver Huntemann's concrete roots can be traced back to early techno. Had he been any younger, he would undoubtedly have sucked electronica like mother's milk from a C64 chip. Like so many of his colleagues, his route to techno took a tour through electro and rave. He could tell the usual veteran tales when it comes to influences, his first record purchases, or on the subject of the good old days. Been there, done that! It was more difficult maintaining a low profile. Huntemann the producer and collaborator has racked up remixes for the likes of Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode, Underworld (the list goes on) and his work with Dubfire now spans a good eight years (Elements, Dios, Diablo, Humano). Since 2016, his residency at Watergate has been illuminating Berlin's nightlife quite brilliantly, whilst he continues to play clubs and festivals all over the planet: from Warung in Brazil and the Rex Club in Paris to BPM Festival in Mexico, Strawberry Fields and Let Em Eat Cake in Australia or Woogie Weekend in California.
