In this festive episode of Busy Kids Love Music, we'll explore the stories behind three classic Christmas carols: “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “The First Noel,” and “Silent Night.” Each carol has a rich history and has been cherished across generations for its beauty and meaning. What We Cover in This Episode: Angels We Have Heard on High Originated as the French carol “Les Anges dans nos campagnes.” Features the famous “Gloria” refrain with its joyful melisma. Believed to have roots in 18th-century French shepherd songs. The First Noel Traditional English carol from Cornwall, telling the story of the first Christmas night. Likely originated from Miracle Plays in medieval England. Its repetitive, meditative melody makes it a favorite in both casual and formal settings. Silent Night Written in Austria in 1818 by Joseph Mohr and Franz Xaver Gruber. Composed for guitar accompaniment when the church organ was damaged. Known for its peaceful message and was famously sung during the WWI Christmas Truce in 1914. Opening Song: Silent Night (https://open.spotify.com/track/74LFX2SPi4b77TrOBUGemr?si=a03567f894704641) by Franz Xaver Gruber, and arranged by Jason Ingram, John Freeman Young, Joseph Mohr, Lauren Daigle, and Paul Mabury Lyrics: Silent night holy night All is calm all is bright 'Round yon virgin mother and Child Holy infant so tender and mild Sleep in heavenly peace Sleep in heavenly peace Silent night holy night Shepherds quake at the sight Glories stream from heaven afar Heav'nly hosts sing Alleluia Christ the Saviour is born Christ the Saviour is born Silent night holy night Son of God love's pure light Radiant beams from Thy holy face With the dawn of redeeming grace Jesus Lord at Thy birth Jesus Lord at Thy birth Passage: 1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth. 2 Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up your might and come to save us! 3 Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved! 4 O LORD God of hosts, how long will you be angry with your people's prayers? 5 You have fed them with the bread of tears and given them tears to drink in full measure. 6 You make us an object of contention for our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves. 7 Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved! (Psalm 80:1–7 ESV) Musical Reflection: Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence (PICARDY) Reflection Notes: Adapted from a medieval French folk tune, PICARDY was later arranged by esteemed English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams as a congregational hymn. The minor tonalities and scalar phrasing are very reminiscent of chant and serve to create a hushed environment in which to reflect on the rich text. Prayer: This is another day, O Lord. I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be. If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely. If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly. If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently. And if I am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly. Make these words more than words, and give me the Spirit of Jesus. Amen.
What is your definition of peace? Many of have ideas about what peace should look like, but is that realistic? Does your ideas of peace look like God's? This is the week that Darrell will take a look a God's peace that has come in Jesus. Guaranteed, it is something that we all need to practice and implement better if our families are to thrive. Gayati. Live. Breathe. Sing! Informal singing by Gauri Varma
Have attempted this beautiful, seene Christmas carol, originally written in German in the early 19th century by a humble Catholic priest, Joseph Mohr in a small Austrian town, and set famously to music by Franz Xaver Gruber. This carol evokes the still calmness and simple purity of the momentous night of Jesus' Nativity. First performed in a tiny village in Austria in front of a handful of people and picked up from there by some folk singers, it spread across the globe and has moved the hearts and spirits of millions of people. Yet another proof, if any is needed, that miracles happen all the time and everywhere, in mysterious ways.

Can music be taught? According to one critic in an article for the Encyclopedia Britannica it can't. The article was written in response to a quote by Johannes Bach that music can be taught. Who is Franz Gruber? Franz Xaver Gruber (25 November 1787 – 7 June 1863) was an Austrian primary school teacher, church organist and composer in the village of Arnsdorf, who is best known for composing the music to "Stille Nacht" ("Silent Night"). Rooted in the national folk tradition of Norway, Grieg's music is noted for a refined lyrical sense. Between 1867 and 1901 he wrote ten collections of Lyric Pieces (Lyriske Stykker) for piano. His spirited rhythms often have a folk song association. His harmonies, developed from the late Romantic style, were considered novel. In his few works in the larger forms—the Piano Concerto, Opus 16; the String Quartet in G Minor, Opus 27; and the three violin and piano sonatas—he uses a free sonata form. His original Ballad for piano, Opus 24, is a set of variations on a folk theme. Among his most popular works are his incidental music to Peer Gynt, Opus 23, and the suite Holberg, Opus 40.
Quarantine Players, A New Play Podcast.| We'll Keep the Ghostlight on For You!
Based loosely on the Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, a classic tale of redemption, love, and forgiveness. If that what you are looking for keep going. Our story is about truth. It's December 24th, 2020 The President of the United States, Donald J Trump is alone wandering around the oval office. His niece Mary Trump approaches him with a book deal as a way for him to tell the truth to the American people, score a huge payday (bigger than Obama's). Over the course of the evening, the President is visited by a Rabbi, Michael Cohen, and three Ghost Writers. The Ghostwriters meet with Trump to see if he has found redemption and if they can, get the truth out of him. This play uses explicit language: the F'bomb and references to sex. This is a work of fiction and fantasy. We are pretty sure Trump would never tell the truth no matter how big the book deal. Directed by Doug Henderson Written by A. J. Translated into hundreds of languages and recorded by just as many artists; this song was sung by the French, English and German troops at the Christmas truce in 1914, during the First World War.The Christmas truce was a succession of widespread unofficial cease fires across the western front lines. It was a symbolic moment of peace and humanity where many soldiers crossed enemy lines to openly congregate and interact with their counterparts amidst the violent war. They allowed each other to recover bodies, rest and exercise without the fear of being shot by the enemy. Some exchanged souvenirs, played football and even participated in joint burials. Composed by Franz Xaver Gruber in 1816, Silent Night is a carol of Austrian origin written by Josef Mohr. Austria’s Silent Night Society says that the history behind the song’s guitar accompaniment is from Mohr and Gruber’s discovery of an out of commission church organ. Or, it could be that Mohr just wanted something he could play on his new guitar.
