'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, well, except for my dad who was putting together the air hockey game, or large electronic toy crane, or other present that would be one of ours the next morning. I have two younger brothers and a sister.   Those are some of my memories of Christmas past, but I wonder what some of my dad's memories of those past holidays were when HE was a kid. And did those memories have a soundtrack filled with some of the music you are about to hear.  Because I have a feeling these are my dad's dad's 78 RPM shellac records. Most of these disks came out around the time my dad was born. So, get ready to hear sounds of seasons greetings past with records that were probably my grandfathers in Volume 208: A 78RPM Christmas. In this festive episode of Busy Kids Love Music, we'll explore the stories behind three classic Christmas carols: “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “The First Noel,” and “Silent Night.” Each carol has a rich history and has been cherished across generations for its beauty and meaning. What We Cover in This Episode: Angels We Have Heard on High Originated as the French carol “Les Anges dans nos campagnes.” Features the famous “Gloria” refrain with its joyful melisma. Believed to have roots in 18th-century French shepherd songs. The First Noel Traditional English carol from Cornwall, telling the story of the first Christmas night. Likely originated from Miracle Plays in medieval England. Its repetitive, meditative melody makes it a favorite in both casual and formal settings. Silent Night Written in Austria in 1818 by Joseph Mohr and Franz Xaver Gruber. Composed for guitar accompaniment when the church organ was damaged. Known for its peaceful message and was famously sung during the WWI Christmas Truce in 1914. ‘Silent Night'. It is one of the most beloved Christmas carols ever written, translated into over 300 languages. It also captures a theme many long for during the hustle and bustle of the busy season of Christmas… Peace. Written by Joseph Mohr in 1816 while he overlooked the sleepy town of Mariapfarr, it would later be put to music and performed for the first time in 1818. It has been sung by countless voices over the past two hundred years. Most notably on Christmas Eve 1914 when German, French and British troops along the Western Front had a Christmas truce. Amongst the conflict and chaos of war, all was calm and peace was found. But is that the peace that we celebrate at Christmas time? Or is there a deeper peace that Jesus' advent brings?

You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth. 2 Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up your might and come to save us! 3 Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved! 4 O LORD God of hosts, how long will you be angry with your people's prayers? 5 You have fed them with the bread of tears and given them tears to drink in full measure. 6 You make us an object of contention for our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves. 7 Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved! (Psalm 80:1–7 ESV) Musical Reflection: Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence (PICARDY) Reflection Notes: Adapted from a medieval French folk tune, PICARDY was later arranged by esteemed English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams as a congregational hymn. The minor tonalities and scalar phrasing are very reminiscent of chant and serve to create a hushed environment in which to reflect on the rich text. Prayer: This is another day, O Lord. I know not what it will bring forth, but make me ready, Lord, for whatever it may be. If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely. If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly. If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently. And if I am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly. Make these words more than words, and give me the Spirit of Jesus. Amen.

Ketika mereka berlatih, tiba-tiba organnya rusak, padahal perayaan Natal hanya tinggal beberapa jam lagi. Amin. (Dod).

Luke 2, 1-14: The beautiful account of the decree of Cesar. He wanted to get an idea of the extension of his kingdom. We experience some of that fullness. Christmas is always a special day. A unique time. It often connects us with our childhood, the mystery and innocence of that time, and this is maintained by the numerous Christmas carols we learned. Sacred music that helps you to pray, as you stand at church, or in front of the lighted tree, symbol of Christ. Fr. Eric Nicolai recounts the origins of the famous hymn Holy Night, Silent Night, by Joseph Mohr and Franz Gruber, 1818. Have attempted this beautiful, seene Christmas carol, originally written in German in the early 19th century by a humble Catholic priest, Joseph Mohr in a small Austrian town, and set famously to music by Franz Xaver Gruber. This carol evokes the still calmness and simple purity of the momentous night of Jesus' Nativity. First performed in a tiny village in Austria in front of a handful of people and picked up from there by some folk singers, it spread across the globe and has moved the hearts and spirits of millions of people. Yet another proof, if any is needed, that miracles happen all the time and everywhere, in mysterious ways.

Opening Song:  Silent Night by Franz Xaver Gruber, and arranged by Jason Ingram, John Freeman Young, Joseph Mohr, Lauren Daigle, and Paul Mabury   Lyrics: Silent night holy night All is calm all is bright 'Round yon virgin mother and Child Holy infant so tender and mild Sleep in heavenly peace Sleep in heavenly peace   Silent night holy night Shepherds quake at the sight Glories stream from heaven afar Heav'nly hosts sing Alleluia Christ the Saviour is born Christ the Saviour is born   Silent night holy night Son of God love's pure light Radiant beams from Thy holy face With the dawn of redeeming grace Jesus Lord at Thy birth Jesus Lord at Thy birth Passage:  1   Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. Amen.

Over 200 years ago, “Silent Night” was first heard by villagers attending Christmas Eve mass in St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf, Austria. Joseph Mohr, the young priest who wrote the lyrics, played the guitar and sang along with Franz Gruber, the choir director who had written the melody.   How did this simple tune, with its quiet words of comfort, become a beloved hymn of peace throughout the world?   An organ builder and repairman working at the church took a copy of the six-verse song to his home village. There, it was picked up and spread by two families of traveling folk singers, who performed around northern Europe.   The composition evolved and was eventually translated into over 300 languages. It was sung in churches, in town squares, even on the battlefield during World War I. During a temporary truce on Christmas Eve, soldiers sang carols from home, including "Silent Night." Known around the world by the wartime Christmas of 1914, the song was sung simultaneously across the trenches in French, German, and English.    Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight! Glories stream from heaven afar; Heavenly hosts sing Al-le-lu-ia! Christ the Savior is born! Christ the Savior is born!   Let's pray.   Lord, thank you for inspiring us to share the Gospel of peace with our neighbors across the street, and around the world. The miracle of Jesus' birth is a story worth telling again and again, and we ask you to give us the opportunity, and the words, to share the Good News. Amen.

Scripture Reading: Luke 2:1-20 “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:11 “Silent Night! Holy Night” is another well-known Christmas hymn. It was written by parish priest Joseph Mohr when the organ at the small church of St. Nicholas in Oberndorf, Austria, broke down. Mohr wrote this song to be accompanied by guitar on December 24, 1818. “Silent Night” tells the story of the birth of Jesus the Messiah from Luke 2. In the closing lines of three stanzas in this song, we hear important titles that are assigned to Jesus at his birth. He is the “Savior,” “Christ (Messiah),” and “Lord.” All of these titles are mentioned by the angel of the Lord in Luke 2:11. Appearing to shepherds at night in a bright burst of glory, the angel announces the birth of the Savior in the nearby town of David (Bethlehem), saying, “He is the Messiah [Christ], the Lord.” This is the greatest birth announcement ever. The baby born in Bethlehem has significance for the whole world. He is the Savior, the one who saves us from our sins. He is the Messiah, the “anointed one” promised through the prophets. And he is the Lord. God sent his Son, who is himself fully God, to become human and live among us. “Christ the Savior is born!” Dear Jesus, we glorify and praise your name because you, O God, came to save us, to be our Lord as God's anointed. Thank you for coming to us, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

It's December 24th, 2020 The President of the United States, Donald J Trump is alone wandering around the oval office. His niece Mary Trump approaches him with a book deal as a way for him to tell the truth to the American people, score a huge payday (bigger than Obama's). Over the course of the evening, the President is visited by a Rabbi, Michael Cohen, and three Ghost Writers. The Ghostwriters meet with Trump to see if he has found redemption and if they can, get the truth out of him. This play uses explicit language: the F'bomb and references to sex. This is a work of fiction and fantasy. We are pretty sure Trump would never tell the truth no matter how big the book deal.

On a cold Christmas Eve in the year 1818, a young priest named Joseph Mohr quickly walked from his home in the small town in Oberndorf, Austria to the neighboring village of Amsdorf. He was carrying a piece of paper – a poem he had written two years earlier. He made his way to the schoolhouse, walked up the stairs and knocked on the door of the second floor apartment. He was greeted by his friend, Franz Gruber, the schoolmaster in Amsdorf and also the church organist.

Longer Version of Silent Night. The origin of the Christmas carol we know as Silent Night was a poem that was written in 1816 by an Austrian priest called Joseph Mohr. On Christmas Eve in 1818 in the small alpine village called Oberndorf it is reputed that the organ at St. Nicholas Church had broken. Joseph Mohr gave the poem of Silent Night (Stille Nacht) to his friend Franz Xavier Gruber and the melody for Silent Night was composed with this in mind. The music to Silent Night was therefore intended for a guitar and the simple score was finished in time for Midnight Mass. Silent Night is the most famous Christmas carol of all time!Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born

Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love's pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
