There's something strange going on in hospitals. Cheap, common drugs that nurses use every day seem to be constantly hit by shortages. These are often generic drugs that don't seem super complicated to make, things like dextrose and saline (aka sugar water and salt water). So what's going on? The answer, as with anything in healthcare, is complicated. On today's show: why hospitals keep running out of generic drugs. The story behind these shortages tells us a lot about how these drugs are made, bought and sold–and, it shows us how these markets can falter without the proper care. This episode was hosted by Sally Helm and Alexi Horowitz-Ghazi. We had the pleasure of interviewing Capstan over Zoom video! To make a mosaic, tiny pieces interlock as a larger picture. In similar fashion, distinct elements coalesce as one in Capstan. The Florida quintet—Anthony Demario [vocals], Joe Mabry [guitar], Harrison Borman [guitar], Andrew “Boz” Bozymowski [bass, vocals], and Scott Fisher [drums]—merge metallic precision with pit-splitting hardcore grooves and the kind of hooks you can't shake. After amassing tens of millions of streams and earning acclaim from the likes of KERRANG! and many more, the group paint a definitive body of work on their aptly titled third full-length offering, The Mosaic [Fearless Records]. Since 2015, Capstan have progressed with each subsequent move. Following Seasonal Depression [2015] and In The Wake of Our Discord [2018], they made waves with their full-length debut, Restless Heart, Keep Running, in 2019. Among many standouts, “Stars Before The Sun” racked up over 5.1 million Spotify streams followed by “We'll Always Have Paris” with 2.5 million Spotify streams. 2021 saw them level up again with Separate. Right out of the gate, KERRANG! rated it “4-out-of-5 stars” and proclaimed, “This is Capstan at full strength and it's a second outing to be proud of.” They toured with the likes of Trash Boat, Doll Skin, Silverstein, and many more. This time around, the boys opted to self-produce, engineer, and record what would become The Mosaic. At the same time, they collectively absorbed the spirit of a more optimistic season. As with any mosaic worth pondering, this one might just leave you uplifted. We want to hear from you! Tullberg Sermon text: John 6: 35-38 35-38 Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life. The person who aligns with me hungers no more and thirsts no more, ever. I have told you this explicitly because even though you have seen me in action, you don't really believe me. Every person the Father gives me eventually comes running to me. Does it seem like everyone else in the race is wayyyyyy ahead of you and there's no chance you can catch up? Luanne looks back to the 1972 Olympics to provide a great example of why our race is never hopeless as long as we don't quit. Mary Ann once again reminds us that if we keep doing the right thing--obeying God-- we'll end up where we're supposed to be, even if where we're supposed to be isn't quite like we imagined it would be. Luanne's newest book, “Spiritual Warfare and the Armor of God,” is available for order through her website (see below) and on amazon.com, as is Mary Ann's book, “Live. Learn. The Red Sox are not linked to any free agents according to Ken Rosenthal. Sox fans are not going to show up if the team is continuing its path down into the depths of the MLB. Their prospects are falling in rankings, they have not added any new arms for the rotation or the bullpen, and they refuse to spend any money because of their "young core". Mego would not be shocked if the Red Sox are sold, especially with the recent news that the Orioles have just been sold.
Justin and Carter react to the Cavs extending their winning streak to five games with a 109-91 win over the Chicago Bulls. They discuss the Cavs three point volume, player responsibilities when shorthanded and what the rotation could look like once healthy. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
For endurance athlete Dillon Quitugua, ultramarathons are a way to empower fellow Pacific Islanders and also work through the pain of the abuse he'd suffered as a child. Growing up in Hawaii and Guam, he'd been regularly beaten by his father and was diagnosed with PTSD as a teenager. When he began running after college, it enabled him to process what he was feeling. But as he pushed himself to take on longer distances, the physical and emotional toll of the effort caused him to relive the trauma of his past. And yet, for Dillon, the only choice was to keep going—until he reached a place of love and forgiveness. If you're suffering from abuse or you know someone who is, help is available.
