It's Reformation Day, Thursday, October 31st, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark The disturbing Chinese-Iranian alliance China pledged support for Iran last week during the BRICS Summit in Russia.  BRICS is an intergovernmental organization comprised of the countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Other affiliated countries include Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates. Chinese President Xi Jinping stated, “No matter how the international and regional situation changes, China will unswervingly develop friendly cooperation with Iran.” International Christian Concern warns, “China and Iran are known persecutors of Christians, and their mutual support could lead to increased persecution as both countries work to eliminate the practice of Christianity within their borders.” Growing Evangelical presence in Spain The Observatory of Religious Pluralism in Spain released a report on evangelical places of worship. There are 4,455 evangelical places of worship in Spain this year, up about 1,000 from 10 years ago. With atheism and agnosticism on the rise in the country, many religious groups are shrinking or just maintaining their numbers. Evangelicals are among the few groups seeing growth in the historically Catholic nation. Transit workers win lawsuit after being denied religious accommodation In the U.S., transit workers won a $7 million lawsuit after being denied religious accommodations for the COVID shot during the pandemic. The Pacific Justice Institute represented the former employees of the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District. The public transit service provided no accommodations for the workers' religious exemption requests.  Kevin Snider, Chief Counsel with The Pacific Justice Institute, said, “The rail employees chose to lose their livelihood rather than deny their faith. That in itself shows the sincerity and depth of their convictions. After nearly three years of struggle, these essential workers feel they were heard and understood by the jury and are overjoyed and relieved by the verdict.”  Supreme Court: Non-citizens in Virginia should be barred from voting The U.S. Supreme Court sided with Virginia yesterday in the state's attempt to keep noncitizens from voting. Virginia officials had removed over 1,600 voter registrations of noncitizens over the last couple months. The Biden administration sued Virginia, and a federal court ordered many of the registrations reinstated. However, conservative justices on the Supreme Court granted an emergency appeal to Virginia's Republican administration.  Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares responded, "I am pleased to announce that the U.S. Supreme Court granted Virginia's emergency stay to keep noncitizens off our voter rolls.” 800 million downloads of YouVersion Bible app The YouVersion Bible app has surpassed 800 million downloads globally. The app includes over 2,000 translations. Most downloads come from outside the United States like in Africa, India, and Latin America.  Bobby Gruenewald, the founder of YouVersion, told CBN News that Bible engagement is growing around the world. GRUENEWALD: “The narrative that people no longer read the Bible is simply not true. We have evidence and empirical data, real data, not just a survey that someone had somewhere, that indicates that there is momentum globally around Scripture engagement. “So, we should be encouraged to know that that God's Word is very alive and well, and if anything, more relevant to today's culture than maybe ever before in human history. Psalm 86:9 says, “All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, and shall glorify Your name.” 2 final donors to Pakistani Christian orphanage Special thanks to the final two donors who helped the Pakistani Christian orphanage.  Since we had already raised $344.75 more than the cost to build the new $15,000 well at the Christian orphanage in Pakistan, the $50 which Jennifer in San Jose, California gave along with the $120 that Beth and her son, Ben, gave from Olympia, Washington will be used toward Pastor Michael's monthly budget to feed, clothe and educate the 85 orphans. To those who gave so sacrificially, thank you! Happy Reformation Day And finally, Happy Reformation Day! October 31st, 1517 was the day when Martin Luther, a Catholic priest, nailed the Ninety-five Theses on the door of All Saints' Church in Wittenberg, Germany in which he listed the 95 ways the Roman Catholic Church had become corrupt. Chief among them was the selling of so-called indulgences which were certificates which allegedly reduced someone's temporal punishment in purgatory for sins committed by the purchasers or their loved ones before they went to Heaven. Needless to say, there is no Biblical support for either a place like purgatory nor the ability to change one's eternal destination after death. Hebrews 9:27 says, “People are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.” Little did Martin Luther know how the Lord would use him to ignite a movement, the Protestant Reformation, that would change the world. Happy Reformation Day! On this date in 1517, Martin Luther, an Augustinian monk and theology professor at the University of Wittenberg, posted his famous “Ninety-five Theses” protesting the sale of indulgences on the door of Wittenberg's Castle Church. Luther intended to reform the Catholic church from the inside. His critique of the church went beyond its corrupt practices to the bad theology underlying them, however. Over time, this critique led Luther and like-minded reformers to break with Catholicism and form new churches — Protestant churches. In this episode of the Influence Podcast, I talk with church historian Charlie Self about the Protestant Reformation, why there are in fact five Reformations, and what Pentecostals should make of the event. I'm George P. Wood, executive editor of Influence magazine and your host. Charlie Self, Ph.D., is visiting professor of church history at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri, an ordained Assemblies of God minister, and co-author with Johan Mostert and Jamé Bolds of Life in 5D: A New Vision of Discipleship. ————— This episode of the Influence Podcast is brought to you by My Healthy Church, distributors of Bible Engagement Project. Episode #273 October 31st is Reformation Day - On this episode, Ryan shares about the greatest transformation of Western society since the apostles first preached the Gospel throughout the Roman empire. This episode commemorates the Protestant Reformation started by Martin Luther's posting of the 95 Theses on October 31, 1517.Ryan provides background on how Luther was initially trying to reform, not break from, the Catholic Church. He particularly disagreed with the selling of indulgences for the remission of sins, which had no biblical basis.Luther translated the Bible into German so common people could read God's Word. He promoted the priesthood of all believers - direct access to God without needing a priestly mediator. The episode highlights Luther's five solas recapturing biblical doctrine: Scripture Alone, Christ Alone, Grace Alone, Faith Alone, and Glory to God Alone.Ryan explains how Luther affirmed the equal status of all vocations pursued in faith, debunking divisions between "sacred" and "secular" callings. His views upheld the dignity of ordinary work done with sincerity. In all, Luther opened God's Word to the masses, granting them personal connection with the Divine. His reforms continue to shape Christianity 500 years later.MORE FROM RYAN:Get your FREE DOWNLOAD 21 Days to a Spirit-Led Life to learn how the Holy Spirit can be your personal guide through today's cultural chaosSubscribe to Cutting Edge Faith on YouTubeConnect with Ryan on Instagram or LinkedInSubmit a question or topic for the podcast at ryanshoward.com/contactGet Ryan's eCourse & Coaching Programs

It's Reformation Day, Tuesday, October 31st, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus.  (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Nigerian doctor hacked to death by Muslims Hundreds of Christians have been killed this year in Nigeria's Nasarawa State at the hands of radical Muslims.  Morning Star News reports that the latest attack came on a medical doctor.  Dr. Stephen Angbas, head of the Angbas Medical Clinic in the town of Lafia, was hacked to death in the afternoon of October 17th, as he was returning home from his work.  He was a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ. Pray that God would comfort his family in their horrific loss. Pro-abortion supporters pour money into Ohio The battle of the century is lining up in Ohio — as proponents for the constitutional change legalizing abortion are buying a barrage of ads in the Buckeye State. The Associated Press reports $29 million was raised in the last month, including $5.3 million from the Sixteen Thirty fund, compliments of a Swiss billionaire. George Soros's organization chipped in $3.5 million, and the ACLU another $2 million.   A recent Baldwin Wallace University survey found 58% of Ohioans support the pro-abortion measure as of a week ago.  Proverbs 11:10-11 reminds us that “When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices; and when the wicked perish, there is jubilation.  By the blessing of the upright, the city is exalted, but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.” Trump outperforms GOP presidential competitors Despite his legal woes, Donald Trump is advancing in popularity as the Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential race, according to a Des Moines Register poll conducted last week.  Trump leads the second tier candidates by 27 percentage points, up from 23% in August. Advancing in popularity, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has now tied Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for second place at 16%. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., an independent, polling at 13%, drawing Republicans A new USA Today poll finds Trump neck and neck with Biden, if the election were held today. But Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is now an independent, stands at 13% support with national voters. About two-thirds of those who would vote for Kennedy say they would vote Republican if Kennedy were not in the race. Where did all the money go? The final reckoning is in for the U.S. government's spending for Fiscal Year 2023.   Half the deficit was spent on servicing the interest on the national debt!   The deficit topped out at $1.7 trillion, up 23% from the previous year. And the U.S. Treasury paid out $879 billion servicing the debt.  Cost of buying home 52% higher than rent The cost of buying an average home is now 52% higher than rent. That's the largest gap in history. The U.S. median housing payment is hovering around 45% of the median household income. That's the highest on record. And, the 30-year fixed mortgage rate now stands at 7.8% -- the highest rate in 23 years. Halloween spending skyrockets Halloween spending in the United States is estimated at $12.2 billion -- a 15% increase over last year, and up from $8 billion in 2020. That's a 50% increase in just three years.  Real cost of electric vehicles A new study published by TexasPolicy.com found that the real cost of operating electric vehicles would equate to an EV owner paying $17.33 per gallon of gasoline. The study found that a 2021 electric vehicle “would cost $48,698 more to own over a 10-year period without $22 billion in government favors given to manufacturers and owners.” Interestingly, environmentalists are not all that happy with electric cars either.  Earth.org reports twice the carbon emissions for the production of an electric car. The manufacturing process of an electric vehicle and its battery exceeds that of a normal car and produces at least four tons of CO2. All of which introduces the question for consumers: Why were we supposed to buy these electric cars in the first place? Keep in mind Proverb 29:12 today: “If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.” Happy Reformation Day And finally, Happy Reformation Day! To do this we will be examining both primary and secondary sources. You may be surprised to find out that both Arminius and Wesley were theological heirs of the Protestant Reformation and their theology and doctrine were faithful to all five of the solas. That is why all Wesleyan-Arminians should be excited about Reformation Day! Soli Deo Gloria.

Happy Reformation Day! Today we're digging into history of the Protestant Reformation and Protestantism, initiated in 1517 when Martin Luther, in protest against the unbiblical actions and teachings of the Catholic Church, nailed the Ninety-Five Theses to the doors of All Saints' Church in Germany. We look at the controversial theological arguments he made that caused a schism in the church and shaped the foundation of Protestant theology as we know it today. We discuss the five solas, the statements that summarize the core beliefs that separate Catholicism from Protestantism, and explain why it matters that we know this today. Episode Notes Belle and Nami talk about Halloween, how they celebrated as children, and how their attitudes have changed over the years. They also talk about Reformation Day, the day Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Whittenberg Church in 1517. Have you ever read the 95 theses? Martin Luther was brought to trial and the court attempted to force him to recant. Luther's response is often quoted: "I cannot choose but adhere to the Word of God, which has possession of my conscience; nor can I possibly, nor will I even make any recantation, since it is neither safe nor honest to act contrary to conscience! Here I stand; I cannot do otherwise, so help me God! Amen." May we all enjoy a day of celebration, but also remember the courage of Martin Luther. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
