Dong Tao chicken has been a food of choice for generations in Vietnam for the Lunar New Year, or Tet. 东陶鸡一直是越南几代人的首选食物，享受农历新年或TET。 The rare bird is known for its strangely large feet. He told Reuters that a fully-grown Dong Tao chicken at one year old sells for $200 and sometimes as much as $400. In this episode, I spoke with Hieu Do, who is a Solution Architect at FPT Software in Vietnam. As a side project, he built a hotel booking system for a friend using entirely serverless technologies.He shared his experience and learnings from building this system and how he was able to keep the cost down. After running the system for a year, the system only costs an average of $0.82 per month and serves over 3000 users per day.There are some useful tips that everyone can apply. Such as reducing the cost of API Gateway by cutting out the OPTION requests associated with CORS. Hieu Minh Nguyen is the author of two collections of poetry, This Way to the Sugar (Write Bloody Press, 2014), and Not Here (Coffee House Press, 2018), which was named the winner of the Publishing Triangle's Thom Gunn Award for Gay Poetry. A recipient of the Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellowship from the Poetry Foundation, Hieu is also a 2018 McKnight Writing Fellow, a Kundiman Fellow, and a 2017 National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellow. His work has appeared in Poetry Magazine, Best American Poetry, The New York Times, and elsewhere. He is a graduate of the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College, a former Stegner Fellow, and a current Jones Lecturer in the creative writing program at Stanford. Originally from the Twin Cities, Hieu now lives in Oakland.

Dit bleek vorige week uit het jaarrapport van Myria, de Belgische nationaal rapporteur mensenhandel. Volgens Nationaal Rapporteur Mensenhandel Conny Rijken moeten er antwoorden komen op de vele onopgehelderde vragen. ‘Het is nu aan Nederland om opheldering te verschaffen. Er moet een onderzoek komen.' Het Belgische rapport is grotendeels gewijd Vietnamese mensensmokkel naar Europa en mensenhandel met - deels minderjarige - Vietnamezen. Het rapport roept veel vragen op over die 38 slachtoffers en in het bijzonder over twee van hen: de minderjarige jongens Hieu en Quyen. Zij zaten vijf maanden in de beschermde opvang in Limburg. De Belgische taxi die hun in Maastricht oppikte werd tot in Brussel gevolgd door een observatieteam van de Nederlandse politie. En toch greep niemand in. Twaalf dagen later werden de jongens dood gevonden in Essex. Argos en Lost in Europe ontdekten eerder dat honderden Vietnamese minderjarigen in Europa verdwenen zijn. En we reconstrueerden ook ‘De laatste reis van Hieu en Quyen'.
