Imagine a Thanksgiving holiday that would go something like this: Serving guests a 2 pound Twinkie while wearing stuffing-themed formal wear with bathroom humor as table-side discussions. Sounds pretty stupid, right? Not if it's 2020. It's also been a rotten year for "Karens" trying to use dating apps & for any form of civility between liberals & conservatives. It has provided some inspiration for a new sitcom that's slated to debut in 2021. Would you pay almost $2 million for a pigeon? Or would you wrap your holiday gifts in sausage-smelling paper? As if we needed any more bad luck, 2020 just made it through its second "Friday the 13th". Did it make you more superstitious? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/eriklane/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/eriklane/support

Better-for-you booze? It may sound like an oxymoron, but a growing cohort of healthier alcoholic beverages have been finding a receptive audience in recent years. Often promoted as low-calorie, low-carb, or infused functional benefits, these products are resonating with a growing number of consumers focused on health and wellness. That’s certainly the case for Boochcraft, a three-year-old hard kombucha brand that has been making waves in its home market of Southern California. In an interview included in this episode, Boochcraft co-founder and CMO Adam Hiner said that while the company originally believed that its consumers would be traditional kombucha drinkers, “we were blown away by the diversity of [people] that we’ve attracted, some of which have never had kombucha.” “It’s broadened our scope of the way we can talk about the product and the way we can market it.” he said. As part of our conversation, Hiner discussed the origins of the brand and shared his perspective on the trend of healthier drinking. He also spoke about why Boochcraft is resonating with consumers beyond those that are regular kombucha drinkers, the challenges of forecasting demand for a nascent category, and why he sees the company as competing against itself. Show notes: 2:39: Interview: Adam Hiner, Co-Founder/CMO, Boochcraft -- In an interview recorded at Boochcraft’s brewing facility and headquarters in San Diego county, Hiner discussed his initial experience with kombucha and why he began to brew and sell it at his restaurant. He also explained why describing Boochcraft as a “high-alcohol kombucha” attracts a broad range of consumers and what product attributes resonate most with its customers. He also discussed how the company forecasts demand for a nascent trend, he and his two co-founders determined their highest value, the sense of urgency to “not get left behind,” and why he credits Michelob Ultra for spurring the trend of better-for-you alcoholic beverages. Brands in this episode: Boochcraft, GT’s Kombucha, House Beer, Clover Juice, Verve Coffee
In episode 20 of the Brewbound Podcast, House Beer founder Brendan Sindell discusses his company’s value proposition, its distribution and growth strategy, the challenges and opportunities of selling a single product offering and why his investors remain interested in the beer category despite declining volumes. Also in this episode: Brewbound editors Chris Furnari and Justin Kendall discuss Super Bowl storylines, the closing of the Widmer taproom in Portland, Oregon, and key executive hires at Sierra Nevada and MillerCoors. They also share some social media accounts to follow, and discuss the latest “Beer Twitter” debate over craft breweries using unpaid volunteers on packaging day. You knew it was only a matter of time before we came back to Evil Genius to get our podcast on. The impetus for our visit to the fine establishment in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philly this time was to discuss the brewery’s commitment to sustainability and use of 100% wind power through Inspire. Once we got that covered, and without Steph to keep us in line, we pretty much just had an awesome hang with Evil Genius owner and longtime friend of Beer Busters, Trevor Hayward. Joining us for a bit in the middle was brewery General Manager Garrett Williams. We drank a bit too much and bounced from random topic to goofy reference to dirty joke. Good times. Also in this episode, a phone interview with Brendan Sindell, CEO of House Beer in Venice Beach, CA. House Beer has “One Beer, Done Right,” a premium crafted lager. In Happy Fun Time, Wayne proctored a quiz on the environmental impact of beer – a relatively no-nonsense topic that still managed to turn into a cavalcade of shenanigans. Though Steph had to unfortunately sit out this episode (she’ll be back next time – we promise), the four of us dunces tried to stumble our way through a Know Your Beers segment all about hop lingo. Plus, beer. Obvs. Do you love Beer Busters? Of course you do! Why not leave us a rating and review on your podcast platform of choice and consider supporting us on Patreon.

Our story is simple. Just like our beer. Over the years we’ve happily enjoyed all kinds of beer. From popular mainstream ones to smaller craft specialties. But there were times when we felt we had to choose between beers that were great for drinking and beers that tasted great. Why can’t you have your beer and drink it too?We were then fortunate enough to meet two award-winning brewers who shared our passion for creating a delicious quality beer without all the pretense or complication. And with that House Beer was born.A beer that’s simply nothing more than a great beer. Brewed with the taste and care you expect to find in most craft beers, but one you can drink time and time again without worrying about how filling it is or what it says about you. Because let’s be honest, all it says is you like beer. There’s one thing we care about as much as crafting House Beer, it’s taking care of the House we all live in. Yes we’re talking about Planet Earth. That’s why House Brewing is a proud member of 1% for the planet. We’ve pledged to contribute 1% of our sales each year to under-funded non-profits dedicated to the pursuit of preserving and restoring our natural environment. Beer may not grow on trees, but without trees there’d probably be no beer.

AIE NEWS AIE: New Member! A huge congrats to Siv for the new addition to his family! Charlie Ann was born on 4/22 and is happy healthy and all the things you hope in a new addition to the family! If you would like to send congratulations, twitter seems to be the place! Just tweet @siv_aie AIE: World of Warcraft Lots to talk about for the AIE World of Warcraft gang this week. First up, after months of preparation and planning, the Spring Craft Faire is finally here. The craft faire will be held this Saturday, April 26th, from 4pm to 7pm server time, and continued on Sunday, April 27th, from 2pm to 5pm, server time, so get your new and boosted characters to Silvermoon and crank up those skills. As you heard here on this show last week, Syrene put out a challenge for people to send in full bags of materials in order to be entered in a mini-raffle for two Sky Golems, and the response was overwhelming. She had 110 full emails full of mats, plus tons of extra mats that didn't meet the rules for the challenge, but were extremely awesome nonetheless. You guys rock. And we're happy to announce the winners of the mini-raffle are Zerrakim and Nunemacher! Congrats you two! Please track down Syrene this weekend at the craft faire to collect your prizes. Thanks to Edelody and Cowpoeria for volunteering their virtual dice rolling skills to select the winners. If you'd like to win a prize of your own, don't forget the craft faire is also holding a huge Craft Faire Raffle. Tickets are 100 gold each, which you can send to Seriewa. [S-E-R-I-E-W-A]. Ticket sales end at 11pm server time tomorrow, Friday April 25th. Any gold that comes in after that point will be returned to sender. There are some rules and regulations for the raffle, which you can find in the AIE wiki, along with a list of all the current prizes, which includes six sky golem mounts, an X-51 Nether-Rocket X-TREME mount, around 50 rare companion pets, eleven 28-slot bags, and a lot more, and people are still donating items for the raffle, so you probably want to get in on this. And just to mention it, all gold received in ticket sales is used to purchase more prizes for the raffle and cover some of the in-game costs of running the craft faire. Nobody is making any money on this. There will be also be a COOP run on Saturday. Meet up at the death blimp in Orgrimmar at 8pm if you'd like to bring some love to the Alliance. And of course we'd be remiss if we didn't mention that Blizzard has finally announced that there will be a Blizzcon this year. It will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center in California on November 7th and 8th. Tickets will be on sale on May 7th and 10th for $200 a pop. Even at that price, they're expected to sell out in seconds, so make sure you call in sick, tell your friends you'll be busy, and be ready with some fast fingers. The really good news is that this means there will also be an AIE Guild Hall. this year! We're still working out the details, but even if you don't win the lottery and get Blizzcon tickets, you'll want to come anyway and spend two days hanging out with us in the Guild Hall across the street. It's a total blast, and some say even more fun than Blizzcon itself. Stay tuned for more information. AIE: EVE Online We move now to spreadsheets in space with the AIE EVE gang.
