Noah Brandon, CEO of Unitech Training Academy, joins Discover Lafayette to discuss his mission to make education accessible to all. Noah graduated from the College of Business at UL-Lafayette and then went on to earn his MBA from Brown University and the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid Spain. Unitech Training Academy is a growing education institution that was originally founded by Noah's mother, Deanna Head, in 1997, initially offering a Certified Nursing Assistant program. Today, the institution has six campuses across the state, online classes, and two early learning centers in Lafayette and Alexandria. Noah is an advocate for all post-secondary educational offerings and is active with One Acadiana's Workforce Development Strategy to ensure that local employers can find skilled workers that fit market needs. Unitech staff partner with their students at Unitech to ensure that the soft skills needed to stay employed are learned while training for their new career. "There is a universal truth among all hiring managers: they want to hire people who make their lives easier, not harder. So when you're interviewing for a job, your goal is not to tell them how great you are. Your job is to convince them that you are the answer to their problems and you'll make their job easier." The majority of students at Unitech are studying allied health field courses. Classes offered include Dental Assisting, EKG/Phlebotomy technician, Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, medical billing and coding, as well as Massage Therapy, IT Technician, IT Support Specialist, and Early Childhood Ancillary Certificate. At any given time there are approximately 1100 students enrolled in what Noah calls a "rolling program of enrollment" that allows students to start classes each Monday. Noah's mom, Deanna, created this model to allow students to start a new career and obtain an education as soon as possible. Unitech held its first graduation for the Unitech Leadership and Development Institute in October 2023. Noah is active in the community and serves as President of the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana. He was honored in 2022 as an Acadiana Top 20 under 40 Award Recipient. Noah Brandon spoke of his understanding of the importance of intentionality when dealing with others. Most of us carry around fears and insecurities, and it can show in our actions if people don't know us. Especially as you move up the career ladder. Our insecurities can shape how people size us up. We may be shy but it can come off as aloofness. People may think, "You're the guy in charge....you're not supposed to be insecure!' He believes that if you look at people with love instead of fear, it really changes the whole dynamic. "If I look at others and give them the benefit of the doubt.....it becomes so much easier to interact with people." Starlight Broadcasting was born from a small Internet Radio Station called Starlight UK Radio back in 2011, which initially was created as a pastime for myself using very basic free downloadable software.Although there were gaps between tracks and further gaps between microphone (as the software was not built for this) It started to get quite a good following playing a mixture of music from 1950 till 2011 but mainly Motown and Northern Soul. The latter part of 2011 things really started coming together, I met Paul Gordon a former IT Technician for the computer company Hewlett Packard. He had listened to the station and his first words to me were “You sound like two tin cans connected with a piece of string” I knew from the start It was the beginning of a brilliant working relationship as he was exactly like me pull no punches and say it as it is.Things quickly moved on, we registered Starlight UK Radio, getting proper domains and most of all installing a good basic broadcasting software programme with a proper server and outside links to the station. From then on things just got better. A major milestone was hit when the station was getting picked up in the USA.https://starlightbroadcasting.co.uk/

"People who didn’t make it or who are not known, have the most interesting stories." Saeed Alnofeli With a life book called “Never Lose Hope” you most probably went in life through plenty ups and downs. I had Saeed Alnofeli on my Podcast - He is Venture Creation Manager at Sheraa Entrepreneurship Center, Co-Founder of Maia Systems and a very valuable colleague of mine. What most fascinates me about him is his different perspective on entrepreneurship and how to tackle problems in the field of creative thinking. He is Emirati, and to be honest, he has a non-typical Emirati approach towards creative thinking and entrepreneurship. His character is shaped in particular through his stay abroad - in his teens, he lived for 8 years in the UK. With that life experience from the western mindset going back to UAE, he brought a different perspective in the fields of entrepreneurship but also as tech-co-founder for a system which can be described as the Fitbit for Camels. Saeed is all about turning negativity into strength and that what shaped his whole life. He chooses 5 chapters in his Chapters of My Life Book called “Never Lose Hope” Chapter 1 called “Foundation" where he explains his simple life while growing up in UAE, in a country back in the 80/90s. The core that shaped his life is about Chapter 2 and it’s all about his 8 years living abroad in the UK. His life to adapt to a more western lifestyle, while living in a very multicultural city. His passion for football helped him to find plenty of friends, be well integrated, though he also realised over time UK education system also has his drawbacks for him personally. He named Chapter 3 “Transition” where he describes his first few years being back in his home country in UAE. Aim for him was to build himself up, climbing a corporate ladder till 2008 - where the economic crisis unintentionally triggered a massive wake up call in his life. His reality check at 2008 uncovered a massive debt crisis - that was the beginning of Chapter 4 in his life called “ Challenging Transition”. From 2008 he learned a lot about himself, in particular how to overcome these setbacks and how to start completely from scratch. Working full time, while studying at the same time, Saeed created a multi-year plan to get out of debts, but also to connect his culture, interest in technology which basically lead to his current Startup. After several jobs among as IT Technician, Engineer and team leader his past work experience, interest in entrepreneurship falling into place and merged. Chapter 5 called "Rise Up" and it’s all about his life as educator at Sheraa Entrepreneurship Center in Sharjah but also as co-founder of Maia Systems - an IT and Networking solutions business which among others currently focused also on Camel systems - a Fitbit for Camels, in other words, combining his interest in technology and entrepreneurship with his culture. Alright, shall we, let’s kickstart this long conversation with a truly inspiring tech entrepreneur from UAE with his Chapters Of My Life Book “ Never Lose Hope”. —————————————————- CHAPTERS OF MY LIFE BOOK TITLE: Never Lose Hope CHAPTERS: 1 Foundation 2 The Core 3 Transition 4 Challenging Transition 5 Rise Up —————————————————— You can find more about Saeed on his Business Website http://www.maiasystems.com/, on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/saeed-alnofeli-38b2a231/ and on Sheraa Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre Website www.sheraa.ae. All links are in the show notes. Alright, a tech entrepreneur with the passion to transform an Entrepreneurship ecosystem with a mindset of never losing hope. So folks, who else do you want to hear?
