Traditionally, a new therapist seeks out an office space to rent part-time from a more seasoned therapist. Sometimes we get lucky and fill our caseload quickly and all the stars align so that all our clients can see us on one particular day of the week. Sometimes we're not so lucky and we end up paying a lot more for overhead than we expected. Is there a better way? Yes! Jen Kim, co-founder of Ethera, leveraged many of the disappointments she faced when looking for office space, and put in major work to create a collaborative co-practicing space for therapists to do their work well. She joins me for today's episode and talks about great alternatives to traditional office space. Hope you get inspired! Host Meg Wolitzer presents three works about idealized lives, and ideas about what constitutes an “ideal” life.  “Boy Meets Girl” is Jen Kim's humorous version of a Hollywood love story.  It's read by Tony Hale.  In the John Cheever classic “The Worm in the Apple” a couple have the perfect life—but no one can believe it.  It's read by Anne Meara.  And a harried mother fantasizes about a brand new life in Vanessa Cuti's “Our Children,” performed by Claire Danes, followed by an interview with Danes..

Sometimes, failing is the only true path to success. Today, on The Mary Dee Show, we unpack what it means to achieve success through making mistakes and rejecting perfectionism.    Jen Kim, a brand futurist, and CEO of Master Brand Institute, shares her insights on the importance of failure as a path to success. Growing up in an Asian household, she was taught to pursue traditional and socially accepted careers that guarantee a successful future. However, when she became an entrepreneur, she quickly realized that failure is inevitable and should be embraced as a stepping stone towards progress. Jen advises her younger self and others to understand that failure is not something to fear, but rather a necessary part of the journey.   Just as in business, sometimes we fail in relationships, too. But learning how to align core values and have regular check-ins with your partner can ensure the relationship is still on track. Jen emphasizes that a successful relationship should be run like a business and requires planning, execution, and measurement.    You can choose success by becoming comfortable with failure. Once you realize that the only true way to succeed is to learn from mistakes, you, too, will be on the path to success and align with your true purpose! Key Takeaways: Failure is the path to success [1:47] Becoming entrepreneurial [3:35] Expanding our vision for life [6:30] Elevating the influence of women through empowered leadership [8:58] Designing your business around your desired lifestyle [10:41] AI and the future of business [15:02] Human intelligence vs. Artificial intelligence [17:29] Reflecting on love and relationships [21:49] Bringing entrepreneurship into relationship [25:35]  The importance of checking in [28:47] Trying on different roles [31:34] Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Archetype Influence Mix   Connect with Jen: https://jenniferkem.com/ YouTube:  @jennifer.kem Facebook LinkedIn Twitter Pinterest About Jen: Jennifer “Jen” Kem is a San Francisco Bay Area-based brand-building and leadership expert who gets entrepreneurs seen, heard, and paid for being themselves.    She's the creator of the Master Brand Method: a framework to develop powerful brand archetypes that win customers' hearts, leveraging Jennifer's 20 years of corporate experience and her launching of multiple companies. She uses the Master Brand method in strategic consulting for emerging entrepreneurs, celebrity brands like Oprah Winfrey Network and Steve Harvey, and major corporations including Verizon, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Bank of Hawaii.   What she is most passionate about in her work today is her legacy project: Femmefluence, a platform that supports women leaders to fully rise into their influence and affluence, so they can make an even greater impact in the world.   Jennifer serves up straight talk wrapped in love, because she understands entrepreneurs' challenges: She built a retail business and became a millionaire at 32, only to lose it all in the recession two years later. She is now the successful owner of three million-dollar brand-building businesses and the mother of three children.

Boos & Bourbon - The Podcast

Jen & Kim get inspired by the Great Amherst Mystery, which was and still is the most well-known and thought-provoking true story of poltergeist activity in Canada. Those who know the story may not know all of the details which the ladies uncover or even the compelling personality of a traumatized young woman, Ester Cox. Ester was completely tormented by something in the same province where Jen & Kim live, but almost 150 years ago. Is it true that the ghost who haunted Ester carved her name in her bedroom wall, or stabbed her in the back twice (with the same knife) into the same wound in 1878? And was it really Ester who burned down the barn?  This episode includes excerpts from the book "The Great Amherst Mystery" written by Walter Hubbell.

Jen & Kim discuss the legend, myth and truth surrounding The Bell Witch. This story proved to be one of the most well known hauntings in early Southern American Folklore taking place in Adams, Tennessee, so much that the former President Andrew Jackson got involved. Is the Bell Witch really a witch, does she really haunt a cave and did she really snatch food from people's mouths? Jen sure hopes not, she would given that witch a swift kick if she tried to take food from the podcast's own "Snackasaurus" They review Weller Antique 107 while playing a fun game of would you rather. Jen & Kim connected on social media a couple of years ago and have worked together on several photography projects since. Jen is an incredibly talented Memphis artist! She's a singer, songwriter & performer who had used her art as a form of therapy to work through some personal trauma. She needed a way to get it out and she found that through her music. In this episode, Jen opens up about her personal experience of being sexually assaulted back in college and the pain of not being believed by the people who are supposed to protect you the most. Kim & Jen also discuss the "me too" movement, what a real man looks like, and the importance of setting boundaries. Jen also talks about the joy of being a mom and how growing up with an alcoholic & emotionally abusive mother has shaped her own approach to parenting. Spoiler alert: Sometimes our parents teach us the valuable lesson of what NOT to do as a parent. Kim & Jen also discuss all the exciting things on the horizon for Jen including writing lyrics & collaborating with other local artists. Jen is such a BRAVE woman and this episode is for anyone who has experienced something incredibly painful and has come out on the other side stronger. This week on Meet Me for Coffee, I hangout with my friend Jen Kim at http://www.molinaricaffe.com/http://www.molinaricaffe.com/ in Napa. Her daughter Bethany join us, you’ll hear in the background She and her husband Petey were one of the first families that welcomed us at our church and here in Napa 7 years ago. Petey went home to Jesus about 4 years ago in July. I had a great time catching up with Jen and to listen to how life has been for her and her kiddos. We talk about travelling, her kiddos and the meanings of their names, living with her mother in law, being single mom and just life in general.  What I love about our conversation is how she always pointed to God or brought back our conversation back to Jesus.  I hope you will find nuggets of encouragement and focus from listening to this strong woman of God.  I was definitely blessed.
