A matematika a tudományok királynője – a sakk a sportoké. Miért? Mert a sakk színtisztán stratégia, semmi más, csak stratégia. Az, ami a többi látványsportban (zömmel labdajátékokban) háttérben marad – amit az edzők a kulisszák mögött felrajzolnak a tábláikra és begyakoroltatnak a játékosaikkal, akik jól-rosszul végrehajtják –, a sakkban maga a dolog: itt nem különféle stratégiákat játszanak meg, hanem maga a stratégiázás lesz játékká, hadviseléssé, két fél közti közvetlen konfliktussá: eseménnyé.
