Op zondag 26 oktober namen we op de Efteling en Anton Pieck Verzamelbeurs twee afleveringen op in een goedgevulde theaterzaal van De Voorste Venne. Maar natuurlijk kun je deze afleveringen ook luisteren als je er niet bij was! In deze eerste aflevering gaan we in gesprek met Wessel Wit, hoofdredacteur van de bekende pretparknieuwssite Looopings, en Steven van Gils, woordvoerder van de Efteling. Samen met hen duiken we in de wereld van de fanmedia en onderzoeken we het spanningsveld tussen de officiële communicatie van de Efteling en nieuws op Looopings. Want hoe erg is het nu werkelijk dat er af en toe Efteling-nieuws uitlekt via Looopings? De handschoenen gingen uit en het werd een vurig gesprek! Het zal je niet zijn ontgaan: gisteren was het... Reformatiedag! En zeg je 'Halloween', dan zeg je natuurlijk ook spanning, sensatie en macabere HORROR!  Anne-Maartje Lemereis is Componist der Nederlanden en neemt Dolf, die er zelf uitziet alsof hij zó uit het spookslot van de Efteling is gestapt, mee in de wereld van de spannendste horrormuziek. Aujourd'hui, Curien vient vous expliquer pourquoi à ses yeux Universal va tout chambouler en Europe... au moins sur certains points. Universal va apporter quelque chose qu'Efteling, Disneyland Paris, Europa-Park, Phantasialand, le Parc Astérix, Port Aventura, le Futuroscope et tous les autres n'ont pas vraiment, mais quoi donc ? Et promis, on ne va pas débattre à l'infini sur éventuellement quelles licences y aura-t-il possiblementou pas (tout ça de façon peut-être hypothétique). Pas de débat sans fin sur Wicked, Harry Potter, le Seigneur des Anneaux, Shrek, Retour vers le Futur, Fast & Furious, tout ça, non, ça c'est juste des mots clés pour la description (hé, au moins je la fais pas écrire par IA). After beginning his career in banking, Coen joined Efteling in the Netherlands, where he moved from finance to operations, ultimately serving as director/CEO of the park. During his tenure, Efteling earned national recognition for guest friendliness and advanced a long-term, story-driven resort vision. In this interview, Coen talks about starting with people, shifting culture, and creating one fan a day. Starting with people “How you treat your people is how you treat your guests… you have to start with your people and change them into ambassadors.” Coen explains that Efteling's transformation didn't begin with guest-facing tactics—it began by equipping employees. Guided initially by advice from Lee Cockerell, the team built a “personal compass,” a single digital place where employees sought and shared feedback, identified talents, and aligned those talents to both personal growth and organizational contribution. Rather than pushing a hospitality script, leadership focused on pride, ownership, and talent development so that frontline teams would naturally deliver better experiences. That shift also meant moving decision-making closer to the work. Managers stopped “running and doing all the tasks,” and responsibilities—like resolving complaints on the spot—moved to the frontline. The results compounded: ideas surfaced faster, confidence grew, and service recovery became immediate instead of hierarchical. Shifting culture “We knew that if you want to be the most guest-friendly company… it's about changing the culture.” Culture change started with clarity of vision. A survey revealed that only a small slice of leaders could articulate Efteling's vision; nearly everyone else operated without clear goals. Coen's team distilled the vision into a simple, memorable “nine-plus organization”—akin to striving for a five-star standard—and recruited 50 internal ambassadors to spread it. Leaders repeated the vision constantly and connected it directly to tools like the personal compass so it lived in daily routines, not just on a wall. Empowerment mechanisms reinforced the shift. An Innovation Lab replaced the “idea box,” inviting students and staff to pitch solutions onstage to a centralized steering team. One standout idea—using VR to let guests with disabilities experience the Dreamflight dark ride alongside their families—came from a student, not management. Coen also shares a pivotal New Year's Eve story: when buses failed to arrive after midnight, employees self-organized to drive hundreds of guests home. That response—spontaneous, generous, and owned by the frontline—became a living metric of culture more powerful than any dashboard. Creating one fan a day “Keep it simple: create one fan per day… everyone has the time to create one fan per day.” A hospitality professor's advice became a durable operating principle: small, intentional moments scale culture. With ~800 employees a day, one fan per person translates into more than a million fan moments annually. Crucially, it's not about giveaways; it's about personal attention. In Efteling's Fairytale Forest, for example, an employee simply walks a parent and child to the restroom through winding paths, turning wayfinding into a warm, human interaction. Coen ties these moments to financial outcomes with a simple restaurant story: when service anticipates needs: right table, timely drinks, favorite refills, guests happily spend more and tip more. Het Efteling Grand Hotel werd gisteren geopend met de grootste strik ter wereld. In deze eerste aflevering bespreken we de voorzieningen van het hotel voor parkbezoekers en praten we met general manager Alex van Gastel en ontwerper Sander de Bruijn.

Een jaar geleden kwamen PVV, VVD, NSC en BBB met hun hoofdlijnenakkoord. De belofte was niet gering: 'HOOP, LEF EN TROTS'. Of, in een eerder concept: 'Bouwstenen voor doorbraken'. Dat zou een kabinet van experts vervolgens uitdiepen tot een regeerprogramma. En dat zou worden voorzien van een serie maatschappelijke akkoorden, zodat het draagvlak veel breder kon zijn dan bij vier fracties in de Tweede Kamer alleen.Jaap Jansen en PG Kroeger wandelen door de geschiedenis van het eerste jaar van de coalitie van PVV, VVD, NSC en BBB en noteren een reeks opvallend consistente politieke patronen. En noteren bijna vergeten momenten waarvan we nu begrijpen dat zij grote impact kregen. Het is opmerkelijk achteraf dat de twee cruciale documenten voor het slagen van deze coalitie nooit in de Kamer besproken zijn op inhoud en betekenis. Noch de rechtsstaatverklaring noch het regeerprogramma. Het waren papieren tijgers, een soort wapenstilstandsverdrag.De enige politicus die de verklaring écht benutte was Geert Wilders. Hij rekt deze voortdurend op met zijn erupties in sociale media die de premier en NSC weigeren 'te recenseren'. Dat benut hij vervolgens ook voor zijn eigenstandige buitenlandse politiek op het wereldtoneel, die bedremmeld zwijgend wordt geslikt.Vanaf het onderhandelingsproces dat het hoofdlijnenakkoord dankzij het duo Elbert Dijkgraaf en Richard van Zwol opleverde, is de coalitie met die methode blijven overleggen. Steeds kwam er uit de koker van de vier fractieleiders een conclusie, die inhield dat men akkoord was met verdaging van de voorgenomen besluiten.In plaats van regeringsarbeid door ministers kwam een permanente kabinetsformatie tussen fractievoorzitters, waarbij overeenstemming op concrete beleidspunten vaak wordt uitgesteld. Zowel bij Prinsjesdag als bij de Voorjaarsnota was dit de werkwijze die conflicten en hun oplossing vermeed.Kabinet en coalitie kennen geen gezamenlijk aanvaard en geregeld consensusmechanisme. Zowel tussen de Kamerfracties niet als evenmin binnen het kabinet of tussen kabinet en fracties. De premier kan dat mechanisme niet vormen, omdat hij 'van niemand' is. De vier vicepremiers zijn door de fractieleiders politiek gemarginaliseerd.Een onthullend interview met NSC-staatssecretaris Tjebbe van Oostenbruggen schilderde de effecten hiervan. Premier, minister van Financiën en hijzelf zaten urenlang in een antichambre te wachten op een sein van de fractieleiders, terwijl ondersteuning door experts niet welkom bleek. De enige die als een soort oliemannetje weet te opereren is Geert Wilders, zoals ook bleek bij de Onderwijsbegroting.De machtsverhoudingen zijn in het jaar sinds ‘HOOP, LEF EN TROTS' drastisch veranderd. De coalitie bestaat gezien de peilingen feitelijk nog uit twee partijen die samen zo'n 50 zetels halen. De eerst zo gehavende oppositie is krachtig terug als politieke factor – ook vanwege het belang van de Eerste Kamer.Naast het onvermogen van kabinet en coalitie is de herverkiezing van Donald Trump van cruciale betekenis gebleken. Zijn aantreden zorgde voor een volledig ander discours over volledig andere prioriteiten dan de coalitie in mei 2024 zich kon voorstellen. Europa, defensie, handelsoorlogen, recessie, monetaire orkanen en 'strategische autonomie' slaan nu de klok.Pogingen tot afleiding met lintjes, 130 kilometer of tripjes naar de Efteling werken inmiddels averechts. Binnen de PVV-gelederen breekt openlijke onmin uit door irritaties tussen hun bewindslieden en met Wilders. De teloorgang van Pieter Omtzigt en zijn partij, de motie-Eerdmans en de instorting van de plannen tot woningbouw destabiliseren kabinet en coalitie.In de zomer moet bovendien een lijn gevonden worden over de Europese meerjarenbegroting. Van enige samenhang is geen sprake en de Nederlandse begroting is op weg naar een tekort boven de kritische grens van 3 procent van het bruto nationaal product. Daarmee kan Nederland in Brussel slechts hoon oogsten.
