Episode 390: Midwest Book Review of “What Am I Made For?” EPISODE NOTES The official launch of “What Am I Made For? Cultivate and Grow Big and Little Ideas” was April 10, 2026, at Open Book in Minneapolis. We also celebrated my 65th birthday with delicious food, including vegan entrees, an enormous red velvet cake (not-so-vegan), balloons, flowers, music, and an introduction from Matthew and Olivia. I read from my book, and enjoyed signing books all evening. The event was a huge success. Attendees commented on the high energy, the love, my accomplishment of a big goal, and the fact that people from all walks of life attended, including two high school classmates and their wives!! It was the kind of day you wish could last a month. I am recording an audiobook that will be available on Audible in July! Once my book was out, I started getting book praise and reviews. With anticipation, I received my first book review from Jim Cox, the Editor-in-Chief at Midwest Book Review. It is common in the publishing industry to pay editors to review your book. They review without bias, I am told. I paid $50.00 for this review. Here is the email letter I received on May 7, 2026. I deleted what was unimportant at the end. Dear Nancy Meyer: I'm very pleased to announce that the May 2026 issue of our online book review magazine “Library Bookwatch” features a review of “What Am I Made For? Cultivate and Grow Big and Little Ideas.” Synopsis: Each of us are born carrying ideas-quiet seeds of possibility that wait for courage, attention, and the rhythm of our lives to coax them awake. Our stories, our losses, our inheritance, and our small, ordinary moments of wonder shape what we create. We evolve each time we say yes to an idea that scares us, or stirs us, or calls us by name. Growth is rarely convenient. It arrives disguised as grief, as curiosity, as a question we didn't plan to ask. It asks us to listen to our emotions, intuition, relationships, and the wisdom that travels through our lineage. “What Am I Made For? Cultivate and Grow Big and Little Ideas” by Nancy Meyer is a companion for those who are in the process of fully becoming themselves. It is a reminder that ideas are not separate from us; they are expressions of who we are becoming. To generate, incubate, experiment, and birth an idea is to take responsibility for our own unfolding. The contention of “What Am I Made For? Cultivate and Grow Big and Little Ideas” is that you are here to create, not perfectly, but earnestly. To lead yourself with tenderness and truth. To shape a life that honors your worth and your peculiar talent. And somewhere inside that unfolding, you will glimpse the answer to the question: What am I made for? Critique: Original, exceptional, ‘real world' practical, and inspirationally motivational, “What Am I Made For? Cultivate and Grow Big and Little Ideas” by Nancy Meyer is exceptionally well written, organized and presented, making it an ideal and unreservedly recommended pick for personal, professional, community, and college/university library Small Business Management and Entrepreneurial collections and supplemental MBA curriculum studies lists. It should be noted for MBA students, self-employed entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and non-specialist general readers with an interest in the subject that this hardcover edition of “What Am I Made For?: Cultivate and Grow Big and Little Ideas” from Manuscripts Press is also readily available in paperback (9798901020784, $19.98) and in a digital book format (Kindle, $9.99 Amazon and eBook, $9.99 B&N). Editorial Note: Nancy Meyer (https://wementor.com/34906) is an entrenovation mentor, author, podcaster, and founder of WeMentor, inc., where she has spent more than three decades guiding entrepreneurs and creative leaders in developing the self-leadership, clarity, and resilience required to bring meaningful ideas to life. Her work blends strategic thinking with mindful practice, helping clients evolve themselves as they redesign their businesses. A former entrepreneurship and small-business finance professor at two private universities, Nancy has shaped curricula and leadership programs that integrate research, innovation, and emotional intelligence. She is known for uniting practical business insight with relational literacy and a deep respect for the creative process. Conscious Attentive Leadership Mentoring After listening, do these three C.A.L.M. Activities: Take this risk or do this adventurous task: Choose one idea you're advancing. Ask yourself: Is my intent rooted in contribution or validation? Expansion or control? Liberation or fear? Apply Self-Compassion: Sit quietly for a few minutes and consider what intention aligns with your values. Then, proceed with the next step, with your values at the center. Welcome Appreciation: “I appreciate you, whether you could attend my event or not. Thank you to those who made my book launch and 65th birthday party a huge success. I loved every minute. Thank you to those who supported me from afar. I could feel your love and support.” It's your turn. Start with, “I appreciate what I heard from today's Mentor, Nancy Meyer. I appreciate this week's adventurous task because…” “Most of the problems in our lives and world are caused by relational dysfunction, a dysfunction in how we relate: as social groups, as individuals, to animals and the environment, and even to ourselves. Therefore, developing relational literacy—the understanding of and ability to practice healthy ways of relating—is essential for personal, social, and ecological transformation.” —Melanie Joy, psychologist, author, theorist, educator. When WeMentor… your life becomes more meaningful!!! Redefine how you lead as you redesign your business—Dual Innovation Leadership WORKS. Visionary Mentor Nancy Meyer, MA Business and Life Mentor | Podcaster | Author | Mindfulness Yogi and Meditation Integrator I integrate mindfulness yoga into everything because breathing, meditation, and movement are essential as you change your life and how you lead. I have a compassionate, collaborative approach that reinforces resilience and maintains accountable conversations supporting your evolution. Bottom Line: My top priority is your transformation and creating a meaningful life through business ownership. You will learn new skills, practice, evolve, innovate, expand marketing efforts, and prosper financially. We start with your desire to develop as a leader. To give you more background, I founded WeMentor, inc. in 1992 to promote Dual Innovation Leadership, the ability to evolve how you lead as you redesign your business model. To grow our businesses, we must lead differently when our perspective shifts. The thousands of brave leaders I have mentored succeeded by taking charge of how they evolved and learned how to respond to the unpredictable nature of business ownership by innovating on purpose (asserting self-leadership). When your perspective shifts, your intuition nudges you into a growth process so you can learn how to lead differently. As you practice new ways of leading, you notice ways to change your business. It is like remodeling. We start with a plan when we embark on a remodeling project. When we implement the plan, obstacles challenge us to adjust our mindset, gather further information, and brainstorm other options. Adapting the plan to fit our new reality is part of every remodeling project. Budgets always need adjusting, and we need to update our approach to complete the innovation. What I love about renovating our businesses is that new ideas emerge, and the project usually has an even better result. We feel changed through the process and have learned many details about remodeling that we can apply in our next project. HEAR why I am doing this podcast and subscribe HERE. Get inspired with resources and tools to support your transformation. We post new conversations regularly! You can also binge and listen to prior podcast conversations. Another thing to know about Dual Innovation Leadership is that you can rebound and recover from trauma, distractions, destructive habits, thoughtlessness, confusion, pointlessness, helplessness, overwork, stress, and suffering as you transform how you lead. Integrating our experiences is exhilarating as we evolve how we lead and redesign our lifework. Take the opportunity to change. Assert the next phase of self-leadership development, contact me. Bruce Sellery talks with personal finance expert and author Preet Banerjee about the “light bulb moment” that changed his money life as a teenager: automatic savings and the astonishing power of compound interest. Preet walks through simple examples that show why starting early matters more than saving perfectly, how small increases in your contributions can more than double your nest egg, and why high-interest credit card debt is compounding working against you. If you've ever wondered whether those online calculators are “too good to be true,” this segment will flip the switch. Connect with Preet on Instagram.

If you're ready to move from feeling busy to being truly efficient in your real estate business, don't miss the latest solo episode of the Life and Listings podcast with Jennifer Staats. In this edition, Jennifer dives into the importance of workflows that scale—breaking down how simple checklists can transform your daily operations into consistent, replicable systems that support growth, accountability, and better client service. Whether you're a solo agent or leading a growing team, you'll walk away with practical tips and a free downloadable playbook to get started. Hit that play button now and take the first step toward building a scalable, stress-free business! “A scalable workflow, to me, means something that you can replicate every single time, and it's the exact same, because then I'm going to tell you how to improve those workflows in the in the future.” Key takeaways: Start Small to Scale Smart: Effective workflows begin with simple checklists. Even solo agents can document their tasks step-by-step to build consistency and efficiency, forming the foundation for scalable systems. Workflows Enhance Consistency and Reputation: Clear workflows ensure that every client and transaction receives the same level of service, which strengthens your brand, improves referrals, and reduces errors or missed steps. Document Before You Delegate: Delegation isn't scalable unless tasks are well-documented. You can't expect a VA or team member to perform reliably without clear instructions—automated, documented workflows make this possible. Define Roles, Not People: Build workflows around roles (e.g., marketer, transaction coordinator), not individuals. This approach allows for seamless delegation, onboarding, and adjustments as your team grows. Continuously Improve Your Systems: Workflows should be treated as living, breathing documents. Regularly review and refine them based on feedback, market changes, or new tools and insights to keep your business efficient and evolving. Todd Watson is the owner and CEO of Showit, a popular no-code website builder and platform for designers and photographers. Todd is a native of Phoenix, Arizona where he started as a videographer before joining a friend in 2007 to create a scrappy software business that made inexpensive photo-presenting and sharing tools for photographers. The Showit company was created when Todd took one of their two products and half the small team in 2010 to spin off Showit as an independent business. The small revenue from the small customer base and his own savings allowed them to rewrite Showit for the cloud and then continue their fanatic customer focus to keep growing every year—without any outside funding. Now Showit is used by 50,000 designers, photographers, and small businesses as their website platform using its elegant “Photoshop-like” no-code visual builder. The Showit company is growing quickly every year and is profitable, yet Todd has no interest in taking outside funding or selling his beloved company. In this episode, I want to discuss a recent conversation with a prospective client who was torn between growing her business and getting big, or staying small and keeping it where it was. Entrepreneurs, especially female entrepreneurs, tend to worry that if they grow their business to its fullest, they'll miss out on some of the great aspects of their life right now. This hesitancy is underpinned by a subconscious belief that growing a business can only negatively impact your quality of life, especially if you're a mom. You may feel tethered back at the same time you feel the urge to grow. Just remember that if you go for it, you're showing your kids what's possible. You may also feel stuck because you believe the only way to grow is through the methods you already know. This can especially happen if you've been in complete control since the business began. You're used to pushing on the gas pedal (or the brake) when you want and are fully responsible for the pace of growth. But when you introduce team members, you introduce so many different factors to consider outside of yourself. If you go down this path and it becomes overwhelming—which is a very real possibility—you may shift your focus to a quick fix to make things easier. But what's truly required at this point is a transformation on the inside. You can grow in a way that feels good, if you're willing. If you can invest in the woman you want to become, you can lead the business of your dreams. It's not about simply growing the business, but rather about implementing the right strategy to grow yourself. Rust Stains: Metal banister rails left rust stains on Tamra's pavers. She can try using chemical or natural acid rust removers to clean the stains. Do you have a home improvement or decor question? The CONVERSATION examines the latest Empire Manufacturing Index, a measure of business activity in New York State, which is now 42 points below where it stood 12 months ago. The widely-followed index is at its lowest level since 2009, showing decreases in orders, shipments and payrolls at factories. DICK BOVE, chief financial strategist at ODEON CAPITAL GROUP, in a recent note, points to the Empire Manufacturing Index along with other indicators, such as labor markets conditions, as signs of a long-anticipated recession taking hold. "The Empire study shows not just a slowdown, but a huge drop," BOVE says on this episode, referring to this US economic contraction. BOVE discusses his other research, such as the tighter lending standards at banks, as well as his fresh data on the housing market. While the US has not technically entered recession yet, BOVE says consumer behaviour suggests a recession may have started. "The economy is slowing," he says. Elsewhere, in an unconfirmed report out of China, an insider tells BOVE that a large number of major US banks with operations in China, are firing local staff en masse. "I am told that there is a huge wave of firings by American companies who do business in China," BOVE explains, noting how one insider feels the layoffs are poliitically motivated. BOVE believes the layoffs, if confirmed, are linked instead to the currency markets, and China's desire to undermine the US dollar. Joining the CONVERSATION, JOHN AIDAN BYRNE, says China's ambitions, and economic rise, should be kept in context given its history of oppression as well as the full reality of its economic progress. What does it take to get started investing in real estate? Insider knowledge? A big marketing budget? Years of studying? A sophisticated system in place? If you happen to be in that camp, our guest, Christoph Krekeler, will blow away any preconceived notions you may have about what it really takes to get started in real estate investing. His story serves as a simple (and eye-opening!) blueprint on how almost anyone – regardless of your circumstances – can immediately get into the real estate investing game! Here's a sample of what we discuss: How to find great deals right on the MLS (yes… the MLS!) – even in a piping-hot market! Massively increasing a property's value through the power of “forced appreciation”. How Christoph increased his profit on a single-family home rental – by 300%. Buying a 9-unit multifamily property appraised at $560k… for over $100k below market value! The power of “Seller Financing”… and why it works so well in this specific real estate asset class. Christoph's biggest learning lessons… and what he wishes he would've focused on more intently – right from the beginning. The ultimate way to leverage into bigger deals – sooner rather than later! More about Anthony Christoph Krekeler: Originally from Germany, Christoph moved to the US in 2013 to play college soccer until he started his corporate career as a Financial Analyst. In 2018, he started reading books and listening to podcasts about real estate. In 2019, while living and working in Germany, he purchased his first two condos in his hometown. When Christoph and his wife moved back to the United States, their U.S. real investment journey began with one single family house. Since then, they have started their company HausHacks Real Estate and have grown their portfolio to 54 units including 2 short term rentals, a duplex, triplex and quadplex, as well as a 9-unit property and two Mobile Home Parks. Today, Christoph is focusing on stabilizing the properties while working with a team of investors to acquire large multifamily buildings. Sometimes we have to aim small to grow big. Just the other day, Dr. Buske and his 11 year old son were playing catch and had the goal of 20 consecutive catches. They both were off their game and just weren't connecting. His son was getting frustrated and wanted to give up. Instead, Dr. Buske recommended they take a break. When they got back to it, they went 20 for 20. His son learned a valuable lesson, that it's okay to get frustrated when you're trying to reach a goal, and it's okay to take a break to shift your attitude. In today's society, we often do everything we can to avoid adversity, pain, and discomfort, but that's where the most growth happens. Life truly is the result of daily decisions that add up over time.
