Washing the feet of another person was a task typically reserved for the most humble of servants, and yet in John 13:1-17 we see Jesus wash the feet of His disciples. In this sermon, we look at three lessons we can learn from this remarkable event. This sermon was preached at Legacy Reformed Baptist Church in East Grand Forks, MN. Following Jesus is sometimes presented as the easy road, a path of safety and happiness. Read the New Testament, and you'll see a much different story: following Jesus is a narrow road that is often marked by pain and persecution. On the night before Jesus was crucified, Jesus gathered with his disciples for the Passover meal so he could prepare them for what was to come. In the face of suffering and death, Jesus said, Do not let your hearts be troubled (John 14:1), and in the following four chapters he taught his disciples how to trust and abide in Him when life hurts the most. Every Sunday in March we will be encouraged by Jesus' words as he teaches us how to remain in him.

JOHN 13:1-17 - JESUS WASHES FEET - BRIAN SUMNER - 2025JOHN 13:1-17 "Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.2 And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray Him, 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, 4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. 6 Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”8 Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!”Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”9 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”10 Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” 11 For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”12 So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. 16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them."To support this channel and partner with Brian in Ministryhttps://www.briansumner.net/support/For more on Brianhttp://www.briansumner.nethttps://www.instagram.com/BRIANSUMNER/https://www.facebook.com/BRIANSUMNEROFFICIALTo listen to Brians Podcast, click below.https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...Purchase Brians Marriage book at https://www.amazon.com/Never-Fails-Da...Brian is a full time "Urban Missionary" both locally and internationally with a focus on MISSIONS - MARRIAGES - MINISTRY. In John 13:2–17, we witness one of the most startling and beautiful moments in Scripture—Jesus, the King of Kings, stooping to wash the feet of His disciples. On the eve of His crucifixion, with betrayal at hand and His glory before Him, He sets the ultimate example of humility, service, and love. This message walks through: 1. The Setting 2. The Scene 3. The Symbol 4. The ApplicationWe see the backdrop of pride, betrayal, and selfish ambition contrasted with the majesty of Christ's love. We behold the act itself—the Master of the universe doing what only a servant would do. We uncover the deeper meaning, that this washing points to the greater cleansing at the cross. And finally, we hear the call to follow His example, laying down our pride to joyfully serve others. In this powerful text, we are reminded that Jesus not only washes us clean from sin, but also calls us to live as people marked by humility, love, and selfless service.

Jesus came to earth not to be served but to serve. Washing his disciples feet epitomizes his servant's heart. Of course, he served all of us in a much greater way when he was nailed to the cross. Dr. Phil Huebner, Wisconsin Lutheran High School Bible teacher, is here to take us through the night Jesus washed his disciples feet.

The Book Of John - Jesus Washes The Apostle's Feet - Travis Huff by The Church of Christ Wheeler Area
Jesus has been saying, "My hour has not yet come." Today he'll say, "My hour has arrived." It is Holy Thursday, and on this great and ominous night filled with huge moments in salvation history. The first thing he chooses to do is wash the feet of his apostles. Now, why did he do that? And why is it significant that Judas left right after he did that? And what does it mean for us when washing feet is no longer quite the thing it apparently was back then? We'll find out this week on The Extraordinary Story. Learn More The Extraordinary Story is a podcast about the life of Jesus Christ, who entered the maze of our world to transform it into a path to Him, today and always. The Extraordinary Story is produced by Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, and is written and hosted by Tom Hoopes.
