We try to figure out what the fuck is happening in the US as we chat about the low rent car commercial at the White House, the human shields of cops protecting Tesla dealerships, how Musk has become (by his own actions) a scapegoat for the public's hatred, and the ongoing disintegration of social bonds and moral solidarity under a fascist regime. Plus a new data analysis system called ShadowDragon that is supercharging the surveillance capabilities of ICE, DEA, DoS, and more. We endeavor to analyze the abyss, organize against the abyss, but not get caught staring into the abyss. ••• Stalled Audits and a Skeleton Staff: Inside Trump's War on the I.R.S. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/10/us/politics/irs-taxes-trump-musk-federal-workers.html ••• The Abduction of Mahmoud Khalil https://www.unpopularfront.news/p/the-abduction-of-mahmoud-khalil ••• Yale Suspends Scholar After A.I.-Powered News Site Accuses Her of Terrorist Link https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/12/us/yale-suspends-scholar-terrorism.html ••• The 200+ Sites an ICE Surveillance Contractor is Monitoring https://www.404media.co/the-200-sites-an-ice-surveillance-contractor-is-monitoring/ Standing Plugs: ••• Order Jathan's new book: https://www.ucpress.edu/book/9780520398078/the-mechanic-and-the-luddite ••• Subscribe to Ed's substack: https://substack.com/@thetechbubble ••• Subscribe to TMK on patreon for premium episodes: https://www.patreon.com/thismachinekills Hosted by Jathan Sadowski (bsky.app/profile/jathansadowski.com) and Edward Ongweso Jr. (www.x.com/bigblackjacobin). TrekRanks - Member of The Tricorder Transmissions : a Star Trek Podcast Network
We are getting dark and dirty on this week's TrekRanks as we maneuver down some of Starfleet's back alleys to uncover the “Top 5 Treacherous Bastards” in the history of Star Trek. Our expert panel is packed with unsavory characters, including host Jim Moorhouse and guests Ryan Riddle and Michael Bentley, as they get into the underbelly of the influences that have motivated so many of our picks. This is a fun episode that also goes deep … into treachery! Episode Rundown: Diagnostic Cycle: We give a quick definition of “treacherous” and how that might compare to “traitorous.” (Note: they are basically the same thing.) Prime Directive: Each guest on this week's LCARS panel reveals exactly how they narrowed down their list and made their final choices. The Order of Things: All the picks are revealed with the TrekRanks' original “Five words and a hashtag” summary, along with one episode that helps frame their choice. Secondary Systems: For a few extra picks that just missed our final list. Regeneration Cycle: The panel recaps their picks and we dissect some of the interesting statistical anomalies that arose from the discussion. Temporal Inversion: We flashback to a previous episode of TrekRanks and relay some of the feedback received from listeners. If you have your own picks you would like to relay to us, please hail us at 757-828-RANK (7265) and record your own personal TrekRanks log to let us know your Top 5 Treacherous Bastards. (Or you can record it yourself and just DM us @TrekRanks.bksy.social on Bluesky.) Your comments could be used as part of a Temporal Causality Loop on an upcoming episode (and might get you a chance to be a guest on a future episode, too). And don't forget to check out TrekRanks.com for our entire back catalog of episodes and a detailed rundown on every episode of Star Trek ever.

With one final treacherous policy decision, President Joe Biden sweeps almost every federal prisoner on death row into a free-room-and-board program for the rest of their lives. Whence cometh this softy-wofty treatment of ax murderers and serial killers? The root is found in a corrupted 19th-century theology. Human governments are supposed to be some expression of common grace that dates back to the Noahic covenant—but not much anymore. This program includes: 1. This is Frank Gaffney with the Secure Freedom Minute. Two days after Donald Trump's landslide 2024 electoral victory, outgoing President Joe Biden announced, “I direct my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition.” This appeared to track with Biden's oft- asserted commitment to “democracy.” Unfortunately, what has happened since suggests that the Biden team has actually been using this lengthy transition period to lock in agendas, policies and priorities it has pursued over the past four years – but that were rejected by a majority of voters in this fall's elections. We are hosting a very timely webinar at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time today entitled, “Treacherous Transition.” It will examine how what amount to serial efforts by the outgoing administration and its allies to subvert the incoming one are advancing the interests of, among others, the Chinese Communist Party. Join us at PresentDangerChina.org. This is Frank Gaffney.

Hey there, hero! When you get ready to do something new, what wells up inside you emotionally? Is there fear? Being scared?Or is there electricity? Being excited? And how does that affect how you approach it?The two will likely co-exist in a sweet spot: instead of being so scared that I am immobilized, I'm...cautious.And instead of being so excited that I ignore taking reasonable steps and precautions to maximize success...I'm jacked and happy. And it feeds me from both directions. What about you?How does it feel when you face tackling something new? Scary? Exciting? Treacherous? A bit embarrassed? Some combination of those? Does it depend how different it is from what you're doing now? Given the differences in power, and definitions of success, how can arts and change collaborations between institutions of higher learning and their local communities be equitable and accountable? And how can change oriented artists practice effectively and ethically with a foot in each camp? Billy Yalowitz has had a career as a theater director and choreographer that I think provides provocative answers to both questions and more. This podcast features a rich conversation between Bill Cleveland and Billy Yalowitz, focusing on the intersection of community arts and social justice. At the heart of their discussion is the importance of facilitating equitable collaborations between artists and their communities, particularly in the context of higher education. Yalowitz shares insights from his diverse career as a theater director and choreographer, emphasizing the necessity of understanding one's own heritage and community narratives before engaging with others. The dialogue also explores the significance of storytelling as a means of empowerment and healing, particularly in marginalized communities. Ultimately, the episode highlights the transformative power of art in bridging divides and fostering mutual understanding across different cultural backgrounds.A key highlight of the episode is the Black Bottom Performance Project, where Yalowitz worked to amplify the voices of a community displaced by urban renewal. This project not only sought to reclaim lost stories but also fostered a sense of belonging among participants. Yalowitz emphasizes the importance of creating spaces for collective memory and narrative sharing, illustrating how art can bridge divides and facilitate healing. The project serves as a testament to the potential of community arts to address historical injustices and promote social cohesion, prompting listeners to consider the power of storytelling in their own lives. As the episode progresses, the discussion evolves into pressing contemporary issues, particularly climate justice and the disconnection from land that many communities experience. Yalowitz shares his ongoing work in the Hudson Valley, where he seeks to reconnect with his cultural roots while collaborating with indigenous peoples. This aspect of the conversation underscores the interconnectedness of social justice and environmental stewardship.Key Moments03:47 The Keys to the Kingdom: Billy's Building Project05:29 Exploring Identity and Community08:48 Golden's Bridge: A Cultural Sanctuary15:22 The Tradition of Community Arts21:40 The Legacy of Folk and Modern Dance26:05 The Black Bottom Performance Project27:23 Community Stories and Reparations32:15 Migrations and Hyphenations: An Israeli/Palestinian Sago36:25 The Birth Narrative and Twin, Twin Transfusion Syndrome41:54 Challenges and Breakthroughs in Rehearsal47:06 Land Amnesia and Climate Justice51:40 Reflections and InspirationsBIOBilly Yalowitz is a writer, director and community arts practitioner whose writings and interdisciplinary performance works draw from public history and chronicle grassroots movements for self-determination.Yalowitz's interdisciplinary performance works have been presented off-Broadway and internationally.
