Bere Igor Velše, ton in montaža Vito Plavčak. Foto: © C.Stadler/Bwag; CC-BY-SA-4.0

We go onsite at Fisher & Paykel's East Tamaki campus and talk to Managing Director Lewis Gradon about his 41 year tenure, and how do you plan for the next 30? The conversation covers recent challenges like the tail from COVID-19, and being disciplined enough not to succumb to short-term share market pressures. Plus the potential anesthesia market, where homecare is headed and building an even bigger complex at Karaka. With most R&D still locally based, F&P hopes to stem the brain drain and act as a brain magnet for young grads. Bu bölümde söz alan arkadaşlarım(03:00) Elif Ceylan, (06:30) Bengü İlhan, (09:25) Cem Çağatay Karaali, (11:16) Selim Uysal, (13:33) Dilek Sena Çekin, (16:10) Olcay Çat, (19:15) Banu Özsoy, (22:25) Aycan Acar Şahin, (25:39) Aydan İrem Sungur, (29:24) Suat Soy, (31:25) Elif Burcu Yılmaz, (33:56) Hatice Ergüven Doymuş, (35:26) Sena Taşcı, (37:27) Selim Uysal, (38:18) Nilüfer Karakaşlar ve (39:34) Mürsel ÇavuşSupport the show
A man's been sentenced to ten months home detention for a "callous and cowardly attack "on a dog walker with a samurai sword. Darryn Clarke, 43, earlier pleaded guilty to causing grevious bodily harm with intent to injure after the incident in January this year. During his sentencing at Manukau District Court this afternoon, the court heard that Clarke was driving his Tesla on Batty Rd in Karaka, south Auckland, when the dog walker stepped into the road and gestured for him to slow down. Reporter Louise Ternouth was in court and joins me now live in the studio. ..and just a warning parts of this story are confronting. Kākāriki karaka, orange-fronted parakeet once thrived on the Canterbury planes but are now threatened. Yvette Couch-Lewis is the Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu kākāriki karaka species recovery representative. She speaks to Jesse.
The Gisborne settlement of Te Karaka is isolated to the north after heavy rain since Thursday washed out a section of State Highway 2. The region is saturated and fragile, and geotechnical crews will be out today inspecting broken roads and slips, including cracks at Otoko Hill near Te Karaka. On Friday, local farmer, Damian McPherson watched as water from the local river flooded about 50 hectares of his land - wiping out much of the work he's done to recover from Cyclone Gabrielle. Damian McPherson spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
In the Tai Rāwhiti township of Te Karaka, iwi are worried about the future of the area's land and infrastructure. Last Thursday, as river levels rose, Te Aitanga a Mahaki evacuated about 200 people to emergency accommodation. Everyone is now back in their homes but the area is sodden, with hillsides on the move, compromising land, homes, and roads. A big slip at Otoko Hill, near Te Karaka has also forced the closure of State Highway 2 to the north, until at least Friday. Pimia Wehi spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
And in Gisborne, two evacuation centres hosted at least 130 people from Te Karaka last night. They may fill up as other parts of Tai Rāwhiti face torrents of rain this weekend. Ben Green is the Civil Defence controller. Ben Green spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.

The clean up is in full swing in the hard-hit town of Te Karaka, about 30 kilometres west of Gisborne. About 80 whānau are still in evacuation centres, five days after Cyclone Gabrielle rushed through the valley in the middle of the night, forcing residents onto a nearby hill for hours. Today, volunteers from around Tai Rāwhiti joined them to help clear the silt and debris. Jamie Tahana and cameraman Samuel Rillstone have the story.
The community of Te Karaka, inland from Gisborne is among the hardest hit from the cyclone, with the entire township evacuated to a hill above the town at the height of the storm. Hundreds of people have lost their homes. RNZ reporter Jamie Tahana has spent the morning speaking to locals.
As the roads start to clear and the devastation reveals itself, Te Karaka sits in the centre of the damage in Tairāwhiti. It's a settlement inland from Gisborne, where families have been left homeless. They had to flee on Tuesday night to higher ground as their houses became inundated. Tairāwhiti is also reeling from another death from the floods, which police are still investigating. Many are without power, water and supplies on the East Coast, and the roads are compromised with no timeline for a fix. Māni Dunlop was in Te Karaka today.
In Te Karaka, inland from Gisborne, 500 people were evacuated at 5am on Tuesday, heading for safety on higher ground. They were left stranded for more than a day with no communication. It's an area that will be visited by the Prime Minister Chris Hipkins today. RNZ's Mani Dunlop tells Kathryn residents of the area feel it's taken too long to get help.
