We had the opportunity to take a little bit of time from an awesome comic book creator! Not only did she create one of the first Latina superhero's but now she is expanding on that, and bringing a whole diverse team!! We are talking to Kayden Phoenix about the project, The Majestics! "Kayden Phoenix is a third generation Chicana from East LA. She was raised with the best movies from the 90's - Disney princesses and action films. After creating A LA BRAVA, Universe of Latina Superheroes, she delved into princesses. " Kayden has been creating great stories for a while now, and this team of diverse superhero's does nothing but add to what will be a great legacy! Not only are these great for adults, but they are also great for that child who maybe doesn't think that the superhero's enmasse represent them! We picked up copies ourselves, and you definitely need to do the same! SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts | Android |  Spotify | Pandora | RSS Tell us what you think! We told you she's a superhero and we're not wrong.  Kayden is a third generation Chicana from East L.A., who puts her direct childhood influences of her mother and grandmother into her art. Whether it's the native dance of folkrico or the influence of Jalisco in her life, you can see the love she has for her native roots in every aspect of her life. We are huge fans of everything Kayden does and are so grateful we got to chat with her about her art!

For this episode, I interview Kayden Phoenix, who is a director, producer, writer, and graphic novelist. I can assure you that Kayden is someone whom you want to put on your rising star list.  Although she is new to the film industry, Kayden is quickly making a name for herself. She has hit the film festivals aggressively with her film, Penance. I'm happy to say that it has been lucrative for her. Penance has helped Kayden garner 10 film festival laurels, it won "Best LGBTQ" at LA Film Awards, and it received best director nomination from Queen Palms Film Festival.  Kayden's momentum doesn't stop there. Jalisco, which is title of her first graphic novel, is set to be released this summer. I personally can't  wait to read about a Latina superhero that represents Mexican culture.  What first caught my attention about Kayden is her selflessness to elevate other Latina directors and cinematographers in the film industry. She wants all Latinas to to have fair representation and equal pay. Thus, she created Chicana Director's Initiative. This organization will help ensure that more Latinas get more work in the film industry.  To end the interview, Kayden touches on a piece of advice that anyone can implement in any industry or line of work, especially for Latinos in the film industry. And that is to find your tribe. What is finding your tribe and how can that benefit you? I'll let Kayden explain during the interview.   Thank you for listening. Kayden Phoenix is a Chicana on a mission. Hailing from Boyle Heights in East LA, she makes it a point to represent those whose stories aren't often told. An advocate for hiring POC in front of and behind the camera, Phoenix pushes to level the playing field for all those involved in filmmaking. A woman of many talents, writing, directing, and producing, she hopes to push the boundary with every new creation. Cruz Castillo sits down with Kayden Phoenix in hopes of highlighting a true creator of diverse storytelling.
