A diáspora cabo-verdiana é a nossa 11.ª ilha.

In this return episode of Our Forever Smiles, Laura sits down again with Allie Ekblad, children's book author, cleft advocate, and creator of Ava the Brava. Allie shares how her advocacy has evolved beyond the book, what it's been like raising a child with a bilateral cleft lip and palate, and how confidence, identity, and resilience are shaped over time. Together, they talk honestly about the realities of cleft surgeries, speech therapy, bone grafts, orthodontics, and revisions, while also diving into the emotional side of parenting. From navigating beauty standards and school experiences to empowering children to embrace their differences, this conversation offers reassurance, perspective, and hope. Whether you're newly diagnosed, deep into the cleft journey, or simply looking for encouragement, this episode is a reminder that your child is more than a diagnosis and that confidence can be built one conversation at a time. What do you do when the title is gone, but the work isn't finished? In this solo episode, Lori Adams-Brown pulls back the curtain on the past six months: the beach day that changed everything, the blank bio she couldn't write, and the Italian word that finally gave shape to what she was building. This is the origin story of Brava Global Advisory, and a masterclass in the kind of self-leadership most leaders never talk about out loud. What you'll hear in this episode: The moment at Santa Cruz that turned a word into a mission Why applying the Ikigai framework to yourself is completely different from applying it to others What it actually looks like to run an executive search and launch a consulting practice simultaneously How Lori's personal board of directors keeps her accountable (and why yes-people are leadership liabilities) Why the bravest work in today's world of work is being willing to see yourself clearly Lori Adams-Brown is a strategic transformation executive, intercultural leadership practitioner, and founder of Brava Global Advisory. It's hard not to like a crossword with a DELOREAN in the grid, as we can attest: we adored today's puzzle, the fourth in the NYTimes by Hannah Binney. There was a certain novelty and freshness to the clues that made this a particularly pleasing solve, culminating in the most exciting way ever to clue an otherwise mundane answer, 11D, 4.75 seconds to assemble a Mr. Potato Head, per Guinness, RECORD. What happens when a classically trained chef who cooked at Michelin-starred restaurants decides the future of cooking isn't fire—it's light? Today's guest is Travis Rea, Head of Culinary at Brava, the company that's reimagining home cooking with an oven that uses infrared light instead of traditional heat. But Travis's path to revolutionizing kitchen technology wasn't straightforward. Born and raised in Houston, he grew up watching his mom cook from scratch and fell in love with the transformation of ingredients at just eight years old. That passion led him to ditch a conventional business career for culinary school in San Francisco, where he spent four grueling years cooking at Restaurant Gary Danko—eventually helping the restaurant earn its Michelin star. But after years of vampire hours and relentless pressure, Travis made a bold pivot back to the business world, spending eight years at Williams-Sonoma developing over 800 food products and collaborating with legendary chefs like Thomas Keller. When he first heard about Brava—a startup claiming they could sear a steak in seven minutes using light bulbs—he thought it was "total nonsense." Now, eight years later, Travis has helped build a product that's been used over 13 million times, with a digital library of 9,000+ recipes. This is a story about knowing when to pivot, surrounding yourself with people smarter than you, and why the best career moves often require you to embrace being a beginner all over again. What You'll Learn in This Episode: How failing a class became the wake-up call that changed everything – Why Travis's freshman year failure was "one of the best things that happened" to him and taught him the importance of living up to his own potential The real cost of following your passion – Why Travis walked away from Michelin-starred kitchens after realizing he loved cooking but couldn't sustain the restaurant lifestyle for 30 years How to know when you're ready for a pivot – The signals Travis noticed (and ignored) that revealed he was reading cookbooks while his peers read marketing journals, and what that meant for his career Why working for the best matters more than the biggest paycheck – Travis's philosophy on taking lower-paying jobs at elite organizations early in your career and how it compounds over time The white belt mentality in action – What it's like to be the only "cook" in a house full of physicists and engineers, and why being the least qualified person in the room might be exactly where you need to be Get your free copy of The Career Pivot Playbook: https://www.omaid.me/newsletter

Assista no vídeo as análises do Conde e Ricardo.

Get More LVWITHLOVE Content at LVwithLOVE.com Become a partner or contact us On this episode of the Lehigh Valley with Love Podcast, we sit down with Allentown born trombonist, composer, arranger, and educator Brody Segan to talk about his original music, his independent label Brodacious Music, and his next big step as a showband musician with Royal Caribbean. Brody has been busy releasing a string of projects, including the country rock single Make Lovin Great Again, the soundtrack to the short action film The Great Escape, and his final 2025 single Im Kinda Busy Now, a 1980s inspired funk blues song about unrequited love that also encourages getting to know the people in our everyday lives. Under his Brodacious Music label, Brody is building a catalog that pulls from country, rock, funk, blues, film music, and big band writing. Make Lovin Great Again was released August 1 on all major streaming services, with artwork by his father and an animated lyric video by Miami based animator Juan Menache that earned a Special Mention from the Global Shorts Film Festival. Brody and collaborator Michael Ford promoted the track on PA Live in Wilkes Barre. Im Kinda Busy Now followed on October 24 as the final 2025 Brodacious Music single. Brody describes it as a 1980s inspired funk blues song about unrequited love that also encourages getting to know those in our everyday lives. The track features music and lyrics by Brody Segan, mixed and mastered by Michael Ford, with Segan on lead and backing vocals and keys, Ford on electric guitar, electric bass, and cowbell, and Denisse Ferrara on backing vocals. Beyond his singles, Brody composed the soundtrack for Sukavision's short action film The Great Escape, recorded live at the Frost School of Music's Weeks Recording Studio, and he continues to write for large ensemble. His big band chart Honk on This, a saxophone feature in the style of 1950s rock and roll, is available through JW Pepper. Since graduating from UM in May 2025, Brody has stacked experience as both player and educator, including serving as low brass faculty for the PA Jazz Institute at Misericordia University, performing at the 20th Annual Scranton Jazz Festival, and working with groups across eastern and central Pennsylvania such as Panchito Bongo y Su Orquesta, Jessee Hernandez of La Maña Brava, Schutzengiggles Oompah Band, and M&J Big Band. Next up, he performs with the Scranton Jazz Festival Big Band for their Christmas Spectacular and then begins a contract as a showband trombonist with Royal Caribbean starting December 14, performing nightly while continuing to write and release new music under Brodacious Music. It explores the categories that currently drive the most traction—roofing scam prevention, shingle education, color guidance, insurance navigation, and Tracy's in-depth “how to choose a roofer” series—along with his insights on why YouTube leads convert far better than social media or Google traffic. The episode also examines the tension between ethical roofing practices and the scam culture affecting homeowners, the nuance behind storm chasers and commission-based sales models, and how Tracy has evolved his content to avoid painting all roofers negatively. Additional topics include DIY roofing content opportunities, the power of niching into formats like metal or synthetic roofing, long-term compounding from a consistent content catalog, using videos as sales assets to close jobs like Brava tile projects, and the strategic advantage of going all-in on one marketing channel rather than spreading efforts thin. Overall, the episode illustrates how intentional educational content can create seven-figure revenue impact and establish a durable trust moat around a local roofing brand.

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Karen Edwards is joined by Brenda Perkins, an insurance advocacy consultant with Brava Roof Tile, to understand the shifting landscape of insurance and roofing with a focus on what contractors need to know right now. Brenda breaks down the current insurance climate, what it means when homeowners have new roofing coverage limitations and/or are categorized as higher risk or being non-renewed and why that matters to contractors. Listeners will hear why retail sales are becoming crucial for long-term success and will explore Brava's role in the Fortified program and how contractors can use it to strengthen their sales pitch. The discussion looks ahead at what roofing professionals should watch for in the next 12–24 months as regulations shift, and how getting involved with Brava can open doors to new opportunities and stronger business resilience. In this episode, Whitney sits down with Jeremy Sulek—CEO/Owner of Jetset World Travel and founder of Brava—to unpack a new, advisor-first approach to commissions. Brava aims to decouple commission payments from host agencies so advisors can own their bookings, get paid faster, and give suppliers clear visibility into which advisors are actually driving sales. They discuss why the current agency-centered system creates misaligned incentives, and how shifting to advisor ownership unlocks flexibility, transparency, and growth.
This season, Trade Secrets is hosting the Trade Secrets Tech Summit. Every Monday, co-hosts Emma Weissmann and Jamie Biesiada will feature a different travel technology company that works with travel advisors. I have another 50g skein I could add in (more of a pain because you have to wind off half). I am matching up stripes so they end at same time or as close as possible. Changing colors typically after 4 rows- unless its a colorway that goes back and forth with the same colors- like carrot cake. Foundation half-double crochet 101. 1 row of dc (probably could have skipped). Size: 36" wide. Was 16 inches. Now 28 Four Leaf Clover Granny Square Blanket Pattern: Four Leaf Clover Granny Square by by Apinya Roszko Hook: H (5.0 mm) Yarn: Knit Picks Brava 500 in colorway Mint & Loops and Threads Impeccable in Colorway 01808 Originally tried center in Brava colorway- Hunter. TOO DARK. Clever simple clover pattern in just 2 rounds. Center square (in darker green)- 4g. Three rounds on outside of clover (in mint)- 12g Size: 6 inch square. Planning 5x7 blanket (30x42”) before border. Modification- the pattern calls for attaching new yarn (at the end of the square) to make the stem for the clover. I just chain to get to the center, make the stem and cut the yarn. I find it easy to crochet the granny square around it in Mint. No issues and one less end to weave in. I am joining squares as I go. I used this YouTube tutorial to remind me how to do this. Progress: more than a dozen shamrocks made. I've crocheted and seamed 7 full squares.
